It sorta stalled over this eggs thing and then...

Torgan Axebearer |

I am here, just waiting for the issue to resolve. I stated my opinion quite strongly several times, but I am not going to force the issue one way or another.
"I have said what I think. But it is not my call."

Dorian Maule |

Still here
Lets leave em here for now, we have spider-bait to hunt before he become dinner. If these things haven't hatched near days end we take em up. Cook a few over the fire, make some wooden cages for the rest. Sound like a plan?

ELDRED CROFTER |

Ja!
The dwarf goes back to leading the way down the tunnel.

Lyla Summerholt |

"You do realize that if they hatch we now have 50 of these things to deal with right?" Lyla says studying the eggs to see if she can determine how close they are to hatching.
Knowledge Nature 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

DM Doomed Hero |

Can everyone please place themselves on the map before I continue. Right now you are all kind of spread out, but I assume you gathered back together to talk about the eggs. I don't want to assume anyone's location. I'm going to give a deadline for this of 1 day and then move on.

DM Doomed Hero |

"You do realize that if they hatch we now have 50 of these things to deal with right?" Lyla says studying the eggs to see if she can determine how close they are to hatching.
You don't know enough about Ankhegs to be able to tell for certain, but you do know that insects tend to have pretty short gestation times, usually measured in days or weeks rather than months. You also know that they tend to be easy prey for other carnivores when they first hatch, so many of them don't make it to adulthood.

ELDRED CROFTER |

cant do - on the roAd - put me 20' ahead of party

DM Doomed Hero |

Hal moved carefully across the broken ground, checked the door carefully and and pulled the lever that sealed it.
This was obviously the back side of some sort of secret passage. Not so secret from this direction.
Hal Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
The door began to push open fast, like there was weight pushing against it front he other side. Hal's quick reflexes gave him a moment's notice before it would crash open.
Hal, would you like to catch the door and open it slowly, push it back closed again, or jump back out of it's path (or something else)? This is not a full action, just a reflexive response to what the door did.

Hallvarðr |

Catches the door as it swings open, putting his shoulder against the door and allows it to open slightly a bit at a time

Round 0 (surprise round)
Everyone is Surprised!
Hal grabbed the door to slow it and carefully guided it open. Nobody was prepared for the lashing purple tendrils that came around the edge of the door and struck at the dwarf.
Attack, Hal (flat footed): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
The tendril slapped against his chest leaving a smear of pale purple spoors across his armor.
As Hal jumped back in surprise, the door slammed the rest of the way open revealing a dwarf-sized purple mushroom with a broad canopy. Four writhing tendrils reached from beneath the hood towards Hal.
This man sized mushroom is in fact a violet fungus, a subterranean creature that can move slowly about on a mass of small feelers. It is a animate plant, and is mindless, though it does respond to base desires, such as hunger, or recognition of threats like fire.
As well as being partially mobile, violet fungi also have poisonous tentacles that can incapacitate the unwary dungeoneer.
Round 1
Hal and Torgan are up

Hallvarðr |

Dungeoneering1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
What more do I get on a roll like that? Weaknesses etc?
Bqllrs, the dwarf swears in Norse.
This thing is a killer!!! RUN!! Ware its tentacles!
Acrobatics to jump back without triggering an AoO
Acrobatics1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14... I think that MAY be enough to beat its CMD
He double moves away After Acrobatics thats 30ft... this may create some issues if it involves me in the midst of the party

DM Doomed Hero |

Yep, you get clear. No AoO.
There's not a lot more to know. It's a plant and thus has plant immunities. It doesn't have any particular weaknesses. It's single minded and feeds on rotten flesh. Its toxin makes flesh rot extremely quickly. Survivors of encounters with it are fairly easy to spot by the horrible scars they carry.
They are slow and single minded, so often the best way of getting rid of them is to used ranged weapons or magic.

Hallvarðr |

Its slow - but its got a long reach. Hit it from a distance!.

Torgan Axebearer |

An exact image of Torgan appeared next to him.
Copy Cat
"Err.. next time there is a door in front of us, let me go first, I guess I should have said I can look beyond without opening them. But it takes time..." Torgan said as he retreated.
Placement depends on Hal.

Hallvarðr |

You'll have to bot me but keep me the hell away from it... I am due to fly o/seas on short notice for a project - I will have delayed posting for the next 3 days..

DM Doomed Hero |

Just realized that Hal is in Difficult Terrain where the ground is the most broken up (the grey area). That means no Acro, but you can Withdraw. Unfortunately you can't get past the party because they are bunched up and don't leave you a viable space. Your only available spot is in front of Torgan.
Hal tried to get clear. He moved back carefully traversing the broken ground, but he couldn't make it far. The tight quarters made it impossible for him to get past his allies.
Torgan, I'll wait for you to take your Move action before taking the mushroom's turn.

DM Doomed Hero |

As a reminder, the ground where the Ankheg was is recessed. There used to be stairs going up to the door, but they've long since been destroyed, and are why there's big chunks of rock in the dirt. The doorway the mushroom is sitting in is about 3 feet up off the ground.
The fungus lashed out with it's tendrils, raking at Torgan.

Torgan Fort save DC 17: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Torgan, three of the tentacles hit for a total of 10 damage, 3 strength damage, and 2 constitution damage. Remember that for every 2 points of con damage, you take hit point damage equal to your level.
The tendrils left stripes of spores behind that began eating away at Torgan's flesh. The tiny spores even ate away at cloth and leather, boring through, leaving black and purple rot in their wake. Skin and muscle peeled back and collapsed in upon itself, bubbling and crusting. The pain was agonizing.

Hallvarðr |

Guddammit! We have to get away from this thing - it has a terrible reach but it moves slowly
Sorry but I've lost the map link... Guys we have to blast this bastard from a distance or we'll end up plant food

Torgan Axebearer |

DM, I have Copycat active as per my post from Tuesday, 05:44 PM. It creates a single mirror image duplicate. There is an equal chance the attack will hit the image instead of me. I guess you want to roll the chance? If it is upon me, tell me how? 1d2 with 1 being me and 2 being the image?
Hall, the map link is under the DM's name in each of his posts.

Dorian Maule |

"Let us halt it's progress then."
Dorian summons forth an elemental once more, but this time the creature that comes from the portal looks more like a mudman.
The heap of animate muck burrows into the ground somewhat for cover and slams the poisonous plant-creature.
Knowledge Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19(DC14 fortitude against 10 minute entanglement), damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
summon a mud elemental, instruct it to attack, move back

DM Doomed Hero |

Hmm. Thought plants were immune to illusions. Turns out they are immune to all kinds of illusions except figments. Also turns out that these things have lowlight vision, and thus use vision to sense their surroundings, in spite of not actually having eyes. Doesn't make much sense to me, but I'll go with it.
Copycat: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Torgan, the first attack is negated, as is your mirror image. No poison damage, lucky you.

Hallvarðr |

And I am freaking out - these things are HORRIBLE. Mud golem is inspired... summon more!

Dorian Maule |

Everyone out of this tunnel! We have better chances fighting it in the open. Noxious clouds notwithstanding.
Only have 2/7 summons left. I hope to save them for the next encounters. Also, I'd have to dismiss Nar. Lets see how this one fares and set up an ambush of sorts.

DM Doomed Hero |

Lyla can't see much from where she is.
Dorian, go ahead and roll for your elemental's attack.

Hallvarðr |

Hal is doing withdraw and getting around the corner so there is no longer LOS... then he RUNS

DM Doomed Hero |

I usually play that summoned creatures of any given type are the same one as showed up for previous summonings. This lets them develop personalities and things over time. This elemental is the same one as before wearing slightly damper earth.
Dorian's trusty elemental friend solidified out of the damp earth that had been the Ankheg's den. It came up swinging and landed a solid hit on the odd mushroom creature. It released a poof os spoors, but otherwise ignored the little mudman. It seemed that whatever the elemental was made of, the mushroom didn't consider it edible.
Torgan, is your placement on the map correct? I'm going to take the mushroom's turn, but I want to be sure where everyone is. Did you move this round?

Dorian Maule |

No fortitude save against entrap?
Torgan is still on round 1. I reckon he might gun it as well. But like Hall his mapspace is of yet unchanged. Lyla as well for that matter
Ow, so does that mean the 1d3 and 1d4+1 at later levels will also be the same ones, or only this one? As 1 summon is the only constant.

Torgan Axebearer |

If Hal withdraws, I will as well. Although let it be known, Torgan thinks this is an unwise course of action. Everybody could have shot at the mushroom, with the elemental and Torgan blocking it's approach. So now, only the elemental remains

DM Doomed Hero |

Fort save vs Entrap: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Is everyone in the right place on the map? I'm going to take the mushroom's turn and update the round this afternoon. At that point I'm going to assume that where everyone is, is where they are supposed to be.

Hallvarðr |

unsure. Am only on device ATM - I withdrew so I should be back from where ever I was last

Torgan Axebearer |

I have been waiting for Hal to indicate his new position. To speed it up, I moved us both. I am just not sure that Lyla moved at all.
Torgan covered the retreat of the group. Making sure the mushroom is not following. Hopefullly the elemental will slow it down. he thought.
"So how far you wanna run now? I don't know if you consider the flying-monster room to be "out in the open", but somebody please tell me what you wanna do once we get there."

DM Doomed Hero |

Works for me
The mushroom ignored the mudman. Whatever it was made of, it wasn't the flesh the purple plant craved. Instead it reached out with it's tendrils to crab the rough wall and jumped off the small embankment, right over the elemental's head.
Dorain, take an AoO for your elemental.
It's tendrils came around the corner blindly, flailing at Travigan.
It's attacking around the wall, and we established that it uses some sort of sight, so travigan has full cover, but because the tendrils are flexible (and because it's cool), it can still try to get him.
Attack w/ cover penalty: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 - 4 = 11
Concealment (<50 hits): 1d1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The lashing tendril slapped against the wall just behind Travigan, missing him but getting close enough to keep him worried.

Dorian Maule |

20 square foot I consider open. This is even better. Gather in the room, ready ranged attacks. Draw it out and group-attack. Stay out of it's range. And let us see how my elemental fares in halting and hurting.
Dorian and Nár move into the mephit rooms and ready their respective attacks( both attempts to trip once the creature comes in range)
The elemental burrows below the plant creature (preventing AoO due to cover) and pops up in front of it, blocking it's path and smashing a heavy mucky arm into and onto the Violet Fungus.
attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13(DC14 fortitude against 10 minute entanglement, if already entangled, helpless instead), damage: 1d4 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Hallvarðr |

Hal runs to his current position on the map this turn

DM Doomed Hero |

Lyla is up to wrap up round 2, and Torgan is up for the start of round 3. All other actions have been posted.
I'll do a cleaner round update/heading during the mushroom's next turn to get everything back on track.

Lyla Summerholt |

Lyla moves back into the room, hoping to get a good view of the creature when it comes into the open, understanding that her ability to garner some knowledge of it may mean their survival.

Torgan Axebearer |

Torgan moved back to the room, all the while staying between the mushroom thing and the rest of the group (not counting the elemental).
Once there he fastened the great axe to his back and started to ready his heavy crossbow.
And that action will take the whole of next round. Unless something unexpected happens, he will do nothing but ready the crossbow.
"So Dorian, you reckon the thing will get past your elemental buddy?"
