The Land of Varisia is an adventurer's paradise. Across its landscape, the ruins of Ancient Thassilon stand as a testament and warning of the dangers of unchecked magical power. Littered with ancient traps, horrible monsters, and the collected knowledge of the once mighty Thassilonian Empire, few adventurer's would turn up their noses at such a treasure trove.
Goblins chew and Goblins bite
Goblins cut and Goblins fight
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
Goblins eat and take by force!
But not everyone who lives here dreams of treasure and ancient knowledge. Many are simple folks, eking out a living in one of the many settlements that litter Varisia, from the large cities of Korvosa and Magnimar, to smaller habitats, like the town of Sandpoint.
Goblins race and Goblins jump
Goblins slash and Goblins bump
Burn the skin and mash the head,
Goblins here and you be dead!
It is in this quaint town that our adventure begins. The town of Sandpoint finds itself in the midst of the grand Swallowtail Festival, commemorating the construction of the new Temple of Desna after the loss of the previous in a devastating fire some years prior. It's a time of joy and festivities. Surely, nothing bad can happen on a day like today...
Chase the baby, catch the pup
Bonk the head to shut it up
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed
We be Goblins! You be food!
Greetings, folks. I'm here looking for some folks to aid Sandpoint in what will surely be simply running a nice festival, with very little murder necessary. I'm new to running Play-by-Post, but I have a few other games under my belt, including the entire Hell's Rebels AP, as well as parts of Wrath of the Righteous and Strange Aeons. But now, I want to take it back to where it all began. Or rather, take it back to the updated anniversary edition of how it all began.
I have two folks already onboard, and I do hope they will grace this thread with their characters so you can work around that. In total, I'm looking for 4-6 amazing men, women, and indeterminates with which to cast off on this adventure.
Of course, a few rules...
-20 Point Character Buy
-Any 3PP must be approved by me, and I reserve the right to refuse any of them
-2 Traits, one from the Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition Player's Guide
-Good or Neutral Alignments
-Starting money is the maximum available to your class
-Use the Background Skills(2 extra skills ranks every level, but these can only be used on Appraise, Craft, Handle Animal, Knowledge[Engineering, Geography, History, or Nobility], Linguistics, Perform, Profession, or Sleight of Hand)
Any questions? Let me know.

Got an Unchained Rogue from another game that didn't get far past the festival, though I do love her and enjoyed the game up until it ended suddenly. I'd need to adjust her down to a 20pt buy, drop a trait, and maybe switch out her first level feat, but the fluff is all there.
The fluff looks good. Just give me a heads up once you've ironed out the kinks down to required levels.
Dotting for interest, might look and spheres of power, what are your thoughts on said spheres? Otherwise I'm happy putting together something first party.
I'm sorry, but it's a bit too out there for me. I would rather avoid having to learn an entirely new magic system for this.

I was in that game that fell apart with Ven and I was really enjoying it as well. I would love to give RotR another shot! I can adjust as needed.
Of course. I must make the same request as with Ven, though. Please knock your attributes down to a 20 point buy, and please lose one of the non-campaign traits.
Not an issue, I can put together something paizo then, how long are you going to leave this recruitment open?
I'm not one to leave people hanging for too long. I'll leave it open until 12:00AM PST on the 14th. That's midnight between the 13th and 14th, if that helps.

Dotting for either a wizard variant or magus. Do you have a preference? What about the other two already in? What are their classes, what are they looking for?
Pick whatever you find most entertaining. As for the two already in, they've told me they're making a Mesmerist and a Tower-Shield Fighter.

Do you have any restrictions on race or class?
Class? No. Race? So long as you can come up with a good excuse, I'm willing to hear out any race, save the monstrous races.
Do you allow guns ?
Aye. I use the standard approach to guns that Pathfinder has; they're rare, but available if you take the time and have the money.

Submitting Cade Goodbarrel,
This character has been in two different RotRL games and both fell apart after the very first encounter. Will adjust to fit your requirements. I had some bad luck with the two previous games that left a bad taste in my mouth. both times the DMs just did not post much or drive the story along at all. Could you tell us what your DM style is like and how often you will post and how often you would like the players to post.

Approval request for Trap Finder from Mummy's Mask? I've got a telekineticist build I'd like to try which acts as a rogue but with a lot of other fun little tricks.

Alright, I decided on a diviner as I like the background I came up with and there are several fighter types on offer from others.
I do want to add that I have previously played a portion of RoTR, from the haunted house to the beginning of the flood. Just wanted to give full disclosure.

I don’t belong here, or at least that is the story told by my people. I don’t know if it is true or not but my people believe it and so that is worth something. As the story goes, nearly 5000 years ago, my ancestors were wizards visiting Golarion from a plane of existence far from this one. They had traveled here several times on research expeditions, each time learning more and more and chronicling it for further research on their home plane. It was during one of these expeditions that a singularity throughout all the planes occurred – Earthfall happened the exact same moment that my ancestor’s home plane shifted to a new location. My ancestors were stranded on Golarion. On their home plane, my ancestors were considered normal elves. They loved the forests and woods, but most of all magic. Their blood and magic supposedly run through my veins.
Each new generation moved on to different locations in Golarion, by a carefully crafted design. We were to explore and report back if we had found any way of returning home. But this is home now. After thousands of years of interbreeding with the native Golarion elves, we are the same – except for our platinum-colored irises. That is the only true mark of my people. There are not very many of us anymore.
I was raised in the town of Galduria. My parents’ destiny was to explore the surrounding areas for any signs of returning to a plane that was no longer our own. My siblings and I knew our destinies by the time we turned 50. And mine? The fates decreed that I was to travel to the city of Sandpoint, not far from Galduria.
I came from adventurous stock and being quite the exuberant type, always looking for new experiences, I latched onto the dream. I moved to Sandpoint right after the time of unpleasantness and began the study of an old lighthouse, searching for clues of my supposed home word. During the days, I work at the Turandarok Academy, helping to school the young ones. It earns me a living wage enough to have a small room in the back of the Academy. After work, I spend my time digging around Old Light, searching for clues.
With the celebration just around the corner, I may just set up a booth, writing people's names in the language of magic to earn a little extra.

Disregard my last post, this is sixteenbiticon's submission. I had made this character for an Ironfang Invasion game in which I was not selected. I think her background will be easily modified to fit into RotRL (it may be as easy as replacing the Market Festival with the Swallowtail Festival, but I might make her a bit more local as well).
I'll get to modifying her background and selecting a new campaign trait. She will be a thrown weapon warpriest, but she'll be effective at melee too thanks to Desna's Divine Fighting Technique. She's got faceability as well and I think she'll fit in nicely with a fighter and a mesmerist.
Edit: I forgot to mention that I plan on peppering in a level or two of flying blade swashbuckler to round her out a bit and give her a few more tricks to work with. I want her to be as adaptable and versatile as possible while still being able to sling her starknives to great effect.

Questions for the GM:
You said you're new to PbP. It's been my observation and experience that jumping into an AP as one's first PbP ends up overwhelming and demoralizing inexperienced PbPers (GMs and players alike).
Do you have experience with other PbP formats?
What prep have you already done?
What is your plan for handling inactive players?
What is your backup plan for if you become inactive?
What pace are you setting? Two years? Three years?
Have you already read (or played) this AP? If not, will you be reading ahead?
Will you be giving Chronicles for PFS credit?
Google Slides? Drawings? Roll20? Or something else?
I would love to join this game, and could fill whatever role the party required, but I'm leery of dedicating the tremendous amount of investment required of a long term character if there's a chance the Campaign won't last beyond the first book.

I will be taking the Sandpoint Faithful campaign trait for Anca. While I am unable to update her mechanics until I have access to Hero Lab, below is her finalized fluff and background.
They were World Walkers, mom and dad. Wandering druidic followers of Desna. From what I remember of their stories, they made a pilgrimage to the Wreath of Stars to witness a lunar eclipse after hearing rumors that it was an ancient shrine to Mother Moon. What they found was a ramshackle settlement swarming with mad cultists and evil fey. They barely escaped with their lives... Following that they spent the next few years travelling the inner sea helping people and spreading the word of Desna. They made their way north and west to finally settle in a small village deep within the Sanos Forest where I was born. We were quite happy there, but they always complained about horrible nightmares of a winged creature of pure darkness with a heart of living flame. Over the years they became more and more paranoid, until one day that paranoia manifested itself in the most horrific way: The Darkblight.
It overtook our small village and corrupted fey ravaged our camp. I blindly fled south and shortly thereafter darkness took me… I woke in a thatched roof hut and I could only see out of one eye. My hands immediately went to my face and the sudden movement sent my head spinning. I felt the rough bandages wrapped around my head. An unfamiliar woman told me that I had contracted some sort of fungal disease, and that through sheer luck she was able to save me. I would make a full recovery, but the wound leave a scar, and it did. Sometimes it burns and I know that someplace, the Blight has consumed more of the Sanos. It terrifies me. Sometimes it feels like they’re right around the corner, closing in. Like they’ve been searching for me - to finish the task it started long ago.
The woman was Androsa. She had been on an expedition researching the blight and by the grace of Lady Luck she stumbled across my body. She brought me to her home, Nybor, a racially diverse settlement on the southern shore of Ember Lake. Androsa is a great woman - her passion for her cause is infectious - and so it was that I decided to stay in Nybor and build a life here. I remain close friends with Andy (she’d kill me if she knew I was using that name) to this day.
But that’s enough reminiscing. For now I’ve got to escort a caravan of goods (mostly feathers, thread, hides and the like) west to Sandpoint for the Swallowtail Festival. I’m very much looking forward to witnessing the consecration of the Sandpoint Cathedral. I’ve been to the festival a handful of times and always enjoy the company of the simple folk there. I’ve been working hard here and could use the break. The caravan leaves in the morning, so I should get some sleep. If I find the time, I will write again once I reach Sandpoint. Until then.

I tend to put a preference of "What is entertaining" over "What is mechanically correct". As a player, I always liked the flexibility games like Pathfinder offered, and I tend to show favor on those who can come up with creative solutions to a problem instead of just stabbing everything, be it finding a way to get an edge in combat, or talking your way out of a fight altogether.
In terms of posting, like I said, this is my first attempt at a Play-by-Post game, but I will post as often as possible to keep things moving. I can promise at least 1 post a day, with it increasing provided the players are capable of keeping up.

I would love to join this game, and could fill whatever role the party required, but I'm leery of dedicating the tremendous amount of investment required of a long term character if there's a chance the Campaign won't last beyond the first book.
Experience in other PbP Formats: Nothing official, though I have ran roleplaying games on other forums with an, albeit, much looser style, but one that I built from the ground up. I've also run actual Pathfinder games, both in person and on Roll20.
Prep Work: I'm currently in the midst of prepping all the maps and character tokens from Burnt Offerings.
Inactive Players: General rule of thumb I have is if they vanish, I allow one of the people who retains interest but, unfortunately, didn't make the cut to take their place. If they vanish in the middle of a fight and communication isn't working, then for the sake of the game, I will automate them until the fight is finished.
Backup Plan: My honest goal is to not become inactive. I realize things in life can change that, but if I start this game, I'd feel terrible if I left people hanging. Besides, it's not like I can hide; two of the players know me personally.
Pace: This is one I'm afraid I'll have to play by ear, due to my inexperience. I'm good for a long haul if necessary. Running Hell's Rebels took around 2 years, so I'm prepared for how long this might take.
Reading the AP: Yes, I have read through the entire AP. I'm actually in the midst of rereading it for what I believe is the 3rd time. I'll probably reread it a 4th.
Chronicles: No, I'm afraid I won't. I'm sorry if this is a deal breaker, but I've had some bad experiences with PFS in the past and would rather not deal with their paperwork again.
Method of Play: Drawings I suppose is the closest thing to a correct answer. I'll be placing the maps in Flash, and placing the tokens there. As actions are committed, I'll move the tokens and provide updated maps.
If that's not enough to convince you, then I apologize. I won't ask you to take a risk on this.
What would you qualify as monstrous, as far as races go? Would that be the official Paizo definition (races of above 20 RP) or a more general sense of the word?
I'm going by the Paizo definition. To use the D20PFSRD as a simple source, I'd allow pretty much any race, save for the Centaur, Orge, Trox, Shobhad, Drider, and Gargoyle.

Having two players that you know IRL will certainly help keep you motivated. It's also a good avenue for a backup plan if you become inactive.
That's comforting to hear your amount of prep work.
Between Google Slides, Drawings and Roll20 I prefer Slides because I'm usually posting from my phone, and I can't move my icon using Drawings or Roll20. But if you're offering to move everyone yourself that covers that.
If I volunteered to handle the paperwork and reporting for you, would you reconsider offering credit for PFS? You wouldn't need to do a thing, other than initial my Chronicle, and I'd be happy to snail mail it to you with return postage ^^.

Here's Sarsam Zimm. I still need to add the backstory, but the statblock is pretty much done (except for gear).
If we are allowed to take a drawback for an extra trait, I might make a small change and swap Intimidate for Diplomacy. ;)
I never actually thought of that. I'll allow it.
If you wish, you can take a Drawback in order to take a 3rd Trait.

So, after going over all the characters pitched thus far, I have a few minor requests for characters.
Osru Lassem: You still have 3 traits. I must ask you either lose one, or take a Drawback.
Cade Goodbarrel: If you're still interested, I must ask you alter your stats down to 20 Point Buy.
Sabina Fueges:You still have 3 traits. I must ask you either lose one, or take a Drawback.
Nicolae Szabo: So far as I can tell, you've built your character with 15 point buy. Could you please bring it up to 20 point?
If I didn't mention your character, you can assume all is golden.
