Meowzebub, that last 1 point of subdual damage from the fall would have been healed when Harrol clwed Nessa after the roach fight.

Loot list thus far:
From Anevia's sack:
alchemist's fire x2
smokesticks x3

from abandoned campsite:
bedroll (torn)
candlestubs x3 (30 mins each)
copper brooch of bat w/ amethyst eyes (200 gp)

From Millorn's campsite:
potion of cure light wounds
potion of invisibility
scroll of shocking grasp
scroll of resist energy
dagger
light crossbow
9 bolts
cloak of resistance +1
87 gp
spellbook
spear-throwing statuette (75 gp)

I presume Theodric's taking the spellbook and bolts. He can have the arcane scrolls as well, as far as I'm concerned; I believe Docia's the only other PC who can make use of them.

Cloak to Nessa? She's a frontliner, and Gregori already has decent saves which will get better when he gets divine grace at second level.

Docia would like to hold onto the brooch and statue at least until we find out more about them.

Who wants to carry the potions? Someone other than Harrol should carry the clw so we don't have all our healing sources in one basket.

Eudocia Fairday wrote:

Check it out, Theodric: bolts and a spellbook! :)

Holla!

Ok, I'll take the bolts, spellbook, and scrolls (VoV--did you decide that I do have my spellbook, or no?). Anybody mind if I take a smokestick too?

Agree about the cloak to Nessa. I'd probably recommend giving her the potion of Invisibility as well (or maybe to Harrol).

Potion of CLW should go to Gregori maybe? Or Eudocia?

Give it to Gregori. If he hasn't used it by the time Lay on Hands kicks in next level, he can pass it down to someone.

Aasimar Paladin 4

Works for me, breakdown makes sense and seems the best distribution of resources.

M Human Commoner/1, Expert/1

Sounds good. Harrol needn't take anything for now, unless we need him to carry anything. Thanks for checking up on that, Joana.

Minor Crab-beast

I left the spellbook up to you Theodric - your choice whether you retroactively wanted to have it on your person or not.

Loot list:
From Anevia's sack:
alchemist's fire x2
smokesticks x3 Theodric: 1

From abandoned campsite:
bedroll (torn) Harrol
candlestubs x3 (30 mins each) Eudocia
copper brooch of bat w/ amethyst eyes (200 gp) Eudocia

From Millorn's campsite:
potion of cure light wounds Gregori
potion of invisibility
scroll of shocking grasp Theodric
scroll of resist energy Theodric
dagger
light crossbow
9 bolts Theodric
cloak of resistance +1 Nessa
87 gp
spellbook Theodric
spear-throwing statuette (75 gp) Eudocia

I've tacked the loot list onto the bottom of Eudocia's profile so it can be updated as items are claimed/used. Nessa, do you want the invisibility potion? Anyone else want alchemist's fire or smokesticks?

Minor Crab-beast

In other news, Aarol has decided to not return to the game so we are officially down to five players. I'll write Aarol out appropriately in a short period of time, and my feeling is to roll on with five.

Unbreakable Fighter 2

The cloak is nice, so thanks for that. Nessa will take the potion if that is the best use.

Male Halfling Cleric /4 | Init +4 Per +4 | AC 19/15/15 | HP 18/35 | F +6/R + 5/ W +7 | CMB +3 CMD 17 | magic stone point-blank +11 (1d6+3; 20ft) | Channel 2d6 (1/5), Touch of Glory [+6] (5/5), Adaptable Luck (1/3) ||| Spells Remaining: 2nd - bulls strength, silence, bless weapon | 1st - bless, liberating command, shield of faith (x2 D) | create water, light, stabilize | SLA - protection from evil (1/1)l |

Harrol will take a smokestick, and if nobody else stakes a claim, an alchemists fire for those high-AC targets.

Aasimar Paladin 4

So the fact that we're going to be underground for a while near a gate way to hell makes me think of This.

Minor Crab-beast

Natural gas seepage can be a beautiful thing :)

My oil fires tend to look more like this though.

M Human Commoner/1, Expert/1

Maaaaybe keeping a lid on that alchemists fire would be a good idea.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Eudocia Fairday wrote:

Every time I have to refer to that rule, it gives me the heebie-jeebies. The "She didn't say no" defense. :P

Harrol the Pilgrim wrote:

My vote would be for bless, as the most all-around useful. All three are nice spells, though.

M Human Commoner/1, Expert/1

Bless it is!

Gregori Arcanthus Shadowbane wrote:
I figure it wouldn't take more than 10 ft to tie him up

True, but once it's cut, you'll never have a 50-foot rope again -- just a 40-foot one and a 10-foot one. :)

It's your rope; if you want to cut it, go ahead. We've got Aarol's rope as a fallback ... unless the DM rules it crumbles into dust along with all his other possessions so we don't benefit from his gear.

Minor Crab-beast

Requisition of Aarol's possessions are no problem. I've assumed you're keeping the dwarf bound and gagged for the moment, unless stated otherwise.

Aasimar Paladin 4

Yup

So I was wondering about the viability of Theodric using his scale to levitate the stone off the victim and ran into this:

Quote:
Target you or one willing creature or one object (total weight up to 100 lbs./level)

Normally, you don't even get access to levitate until at least 3rd level so it's enough to lift a person at that level, no problem. But the scales are unique magic items. Does it specify what caster-level they are, or does it operate off the wielder's character level in regard to duration and other per-level effects?

If it keys off Theodric's level, then he can't even use it to lift himself. Base weight for a human male is 120 lbs.

I was actually wondering the same thing while I was driving home from work. Just couldn't post until now. Great minds think alike!

Minor Crab-beast

Question answered - how many other AP paths hand out a minor artifact to each player just for turning up? ;)

Minor Crab-beast

Handwaved the rolls and whatnot given that you're essentially taking 10 for them. I think this obstacle only really works if you have no-one who had the presence of mind to include rope in their kit loadout.

Minor Crab-beast

Fun fact - neither Anevia or Aravashnial have Knowledge Religion either... though lucky for you Horgus does :)

Are we supposed to know who Baphomet is without a roll? Seems odd if the symbol is meaningless to us.

Minor Crab-beast

I've thrown something up in thread, but I'd consider it common knowledge that Baphomet was a demon lord - exactly what his form / purview / shape / etc would be dependent on knowledge checks.

M Human Commoner/1, Expert/1

Would the chain vests fit a halfling?

Also apologies for my sparse posting the last few weeks. I'm afraid it's probably going to continue another two weeks longer between the end of semester and a few other bumps in the road. I'll try to keep a presence in the game but I probably won't be as vocal as usual. (Feel free to bot me for anything like OOC healing, combat or anything else. Harrol's a helpful soul, he'll do what he's told without question.)

I'll be picking up the pace a bit as soon as I'm on break, so bear with me!

Minor Crab-beast

Nope - they are medium sized.

Chain shirt has an ACP so not for me. Even if no one wants it, we might consider taking it to sell; the value's not negligible at low level.

Then again, pulling the armor off a demon cultist rapidly approaching rigor mortis is kind of icky. Docia's not going to volunteer to do it. ;P

Aasimar Paladin 4

Gregori'll do it if need be. Comes in at 1 less than my scalemail as well. Not sure when we'll have the opportunity to sell it.

Unbreakable Fighter 2

Already done. Nessa is for treating demon-worshippers poorly.

AND

We are coming to a town. 'Everything is for sale in Bartertown'

With demon crusaders down here, Lann and his people should be stocking up on armor and weapons. I imagine is to be a weird economy down here.

Minor Crab-beast

Had a typical Malaysian Saturday today: Dim Sum lunch, bagpipes performance at 2pm and then Halloween trick or treating in the evening. As it's now almost 1AM before I got to the computer... suffice to say update will be coming tomorrow.

Second clw potion to Nessa?

And, Theodric, do you want the scroll of cause fear?

Unbreakable Fighter 2

Nessa can carry it.

Joana wrote:

Sure

If Gregori wants the morningstar, he should take it, but I really, really don't want it and I don't believe anyone else in the party can use it.

Another AP I was in gave out a +1 weapon at first level, and at first, it's all "Awesome! Free magic weapon!" But it wasn't the weapon I built my PC to use and I never felt I could afford the financial hit of selling it and spend the extra money to buy the weapon I originally intended with the same enhancement bonus when I could spend that money on improving my saves or AC instead, and it ended up utterly ruining the way I was intending to go with the character build. I ended up feeling like my PC had picked up a cursed item she couldn't get rid of.

Minor Crab-beast

I'd view it as a utility weapon for now. For reference, Neathholm does have a base value in the town for shopping and a couple of magic items for sale - but it is pretty limited.

Who knows - you might find someone above ground willing to like for like it once you reach safe harbor ;)

Aasimar Paladin 4

Never know when you're gonna run into skeletons. I'll take it.

Excellent. Accept it in-thread. It's not Finessable, and if we run into something that has DR/Magic (or worse, that's incorporeal), it's better off in the hands of the paladin than the bard.

Minor Crab-beast

Also - please advance to Level 2. It seems quick, but I skipped a few minor combat encounters along the way and the AP gives out XP for bits and pieces like it was popcorn. Suffice to say that the ramp won't be flattening out for a while either.

HP can either be average+1 or rolled, but if you roll you are stuck with whatever comes up.

Unbreakable Fighter 2

Sweet. Is that average rounded up or down (5.5 + 1)? A 6 I will probably roll, a 7 I will take.

I haven't even cast a spell yet. :P

Of course, that might just be an indictment of the general uselessness of low-level bard spells.

Nessa Glenbrook wrote:

Pardon my intrusion, but I believe that it would be something along the lines of:

D12 classes: (6 + 1) + CON modifier
D10 classes: (5 + 1) + CON modifier
D8 classes: (4 + 1) + CON modifier
D6 classes: (3 + 1) + CON modifier

Of course, other miscellaneous modifiers such as favored class bonus hit points and feat-related bonus hit points (such as from the Toughness feat) are added as well.

Unbreakable Fighter 2

oh pooh. For the bigger dice, that leaves too much on the table.

Dice it is

1d10 ⇒ 10

Yay. That will help the later rolls on the low side of things.

Aasimar Paladin 4

Think I'll go with the Average +1 for 6

I'm leveled up. Before I rest tonight, I'd like to memorize Comprehend Languages (or use my Arcane Bond if the new spell slot isn't immediately available) to see if that will lend any additional insight from Millorn's book. After that, in the morning I'd just want to memorize spells (listed in my profile) and then I'm good to go--unless we have some gold lying around that I can use to copy some of the spells from Millorn's book into mine. 10 gp a pop for 1st level spells.

Unbreakable Fighter 2

2nd level fighter
took the bonus hit point for 10 + 2 + 1 HP
Skill Points: Climb, Knowledge (dungeoneering), and Perception
Bonus Feat: Power Attack

Male Halfling Cleric /4 | Init +4 Per +4 | AC 19/15/15 | HP 18/35 | F +6/R + 5/ W +7 | CMB +3 CMD 17 | magic stone point-blank +11 (1d6+3; 20ft) | Channel 2d6 (1/5), Touch of Glory [+6] (5/5), Adaptable Luck (1/3) ||| Spells Remaining: 2nd - bulls strength, silence, bless weapon | 1st - bless, liberating command, shield of faith (x2 D) | create water, light, stabilize | SLA - protection from evil (1/1)l |

Harrol gains an additional first level spell slot, 7 hit points, +1 to his fort and will saves and +1 BAB.

I also gain (via favored class) two skill points. I think his lack of broader knowledges and sense motive are pretty fitting of his character (and hopefully endearing) so I'll instead take a point of diplomacy and another of handle animal so he can attempt the check. I'll probably take Knowledge (religion) eventually, but we'll play it out like this for now.

Docia has some spare cash you could use to scribe spells. We also have the well-made chain shirts we could sell in Neathholm's markets. Although if Lann is coming with us, perhaps he could use one? What kind of armor is he wearing, DM?
