Having completed the task for the Inquisitor and gaining significant knowledge for himself and his brothers, Brother Castil returns to the Watch Captain.

Inquisitor Van Vuyguns was greatful for my help in his library, he has shared some knowledge that could prove useful to us in dealing with Tyranids. Is there anything else you require of me at this time?

If no: Then May I inquire about the progress of the boarding team, is there anything I can do for my brothers?

If yes: Then Brother Castil will await further instructions.

I'll scrape up a sample on my combat blade, and let the Captain decide who sees it.

Lucian:
The Watch Captain takes your sample. This is all that you could find. Hmm, I will have a servitor work the plumbing and extract anything else. Good work. Find Brother Castil, then meet me here in an hour." The Watch Captain says and returns to servicing his weapons.

Brother Castil:
The Watch Captain finds you as he is walking the halls. He seems to be busy.Find Brother Lucian, then meet me in my chambers in an hour.

I apologise that I could not offer more sir, replies Lucian, feeling that he has disappointed the Captain. I will locate Brother Castil, and report as ordered. Saluting, Lucian takes his leave, and opens a a vox channel to Castil.

Brother Castil, the Captain has instructed that we meet, before reporting to him in one hour. Where are you located?

Just saw the Captain. Said to find you and meet in his quarter's within the hour. Shall we meet there? Any idea what this could be about?

The Captain didn't say why he wished to meet. I suspect that he may have further orders for us. I will met you at his quarters as instructed.

Lucian returns to his quarters for a period of study and meditation, before reporting to the Captain's quarters as ordered.

Brother Castil closes the comm link and turns around. He heads towards his quarters to see what disarray they may be in. He doesn't have long so a thorough cleaning will have to wait.

He arranges what he can and then leaves for the Watch Captain's quarters, he demands punctuality in himself as well as others.

You meet the Watch Captain at the time specified.

The Kill team is currently escorting some Sisters of Battle and a Deathcult Assassin. They will be back on the ship soon. They have been exposed to horrors on that ship better left unsaid, but we can not simply allow them back on the ship without checking them out. I want you to observe Daemonhunter Ahmazzi as he checks them. Learn how to spot a heretic. By the Emperor I hope that you find none this day, but even if that is the case the Daemonhunter can teach you much. Unless you have any questions for me, go wait for the survivors with him at the docking bay.

Understood sir. What are our instructions in the event that one of the survivors appears to be tainted?

Daemonhunter Ahmazzi will likely purge them.

I understand. We will report to the Inquisitor immediately.

Lucian salutes the Captain, turns on his heel and makes his way to the docking bay to report to Ahmazzi.

A Sister Superior and a few wounded sisters come off of the Aquila lander as well as a Deathcult Assassin that you barely notice.

"I understand you are wounded, and tired, but before I can allow you to go through decontamination protocols I need to look at you all. Single file line in front of the Astartes with me." The Daemonhunter demands and points to a cargo line on the bay floor. The sisters and assassin line up.

"You two may look them over first quickly. Report anything suspicious to me." He says to the Librarian and Devestator with him.

Scrutiny-10:
The Sisters and Assassin seem wounded, and tired, but still you get the sense that they are quietly defiant.

Yes my lord, Lucian replies, as he begins to look over the returning Sororitas. His right hand hovers near the holstered bolt pistol at his hip.

Scrutiny 55-10: 1d100 ⇒ 21

The sisters and assassin seem to have been through a significant ordeal, my lord. They are wounded, yet still remain upright.

As the survivors file through the docking bay, Lucian quickly looks them over, hunting for signs of physical corruption or the presence of warp-tainted material.

Castil is able to sense something different and odd...perhaps something or someone tainted by the warp.

Broher Castil retuns to the Demon Hunter and shares his discovery.

I detect a warp disruption in the cargo hold, you should have a look for youself to determine the cause, I'm unable to pinpoint the location.

He looks at the Astartes.
"You have much to learn." Without turning to look he lifts his Hellax Infernus pistol and and kills one of the Sisters.

"This one was a doppleganger. Her Fleurs De Lys is on the wrong cheek, as if looking into a mirror. That is how they copy us, and a good way to detect. You were right Brother Castil, she was the cause of the warp disruption. You need to focus, they are very good at hiding their identity. She had a spell on the rest of the team, she was probably waiting on the lander. Go inspect the lander for further taint."

The Sister Superior and the Assassin are being treated now, they seem a little confused.

I will strive harder to understand the warp as you do. Come Brother Lucian, keep your hand near your pistol. I feel I work is not done.

Brother Castil moves towards the lander and extends his senses into the flow of the warp trying to determine if there is further disruption in the area.

Psyniscience test 1d100 ⇒ 5vs 40...3 DOS

After such failure in the eyes of the Demon Hunter Brother Castil was determined to succeed without help. He cleared his mind, fueled by his anger, his blood boiling with determination, he easily enters the flow of the warp. He envelopes himself completely with his senses, able to see, feel, and pinpoint any further discruptions coming from the lander and nearby.

Lucian is startled by the sudden destruction of the alleged doppelganger, but he makes no show of his surprise.

Moving off with Castil, he begins to look over the lander, scrutinising the external surfaces before moving inside. His hand remains warily by his bolt pistol, and he loosens his combat blade in its sheath.

You discover an explosive on the Lander. It is sufficient to cause substantial damage to the ship. You are unsure of the trigger device, it could be a timer or possibly meant to be triggered mentally.

Brother Castil:
You sense no more warp phenomenon in the area. You reach out further and can sense the large traitor vessel beyond this ship.

As Castil's view of the warp fades and reality becomes more clear he walks towards the entrance of the lander and enters. Looking for anything suspicious. While doing so he comms brother Lucian:

Brother Lucian, this area and lander are clear of warp disruptions. Have you discovered anything on the hull? I'm going inside for a closer look.

At first difficult to focus under the pressure of being at the center of such devestation and responsibility, Brother Lucian found it difficult, but after a certain thirst inherent to all Blood Angels took over. A thirst within that would find no quenching in death, so his senses focused and he began to see the demolitions in a different light.

Castil, I too have found an explosive device. We need to clear this docking bay before we try anything.

Lucian opens a vox channel to Daemonhunter Ahmazzi and Watch Captain Enoch, as he approaches the device.

My lords, the lander recently returned from the traitors' ship is rigged with explosives. Brother Castil and I are approaching the device to determine what we can. This docking bay needs to be cleared immediately. Castil and I will do what we can, but neither of us are demolitions experts. If Colonel Folken's demolitions team are available, we have need of their services.

Standing away from the device, and ensuring that he does not make contact with any part of it, Lucian inspects the explosive to learn what he can. He does not recognise the compound or the wiring, and cannot identify a trigger mechanism.

Castil, can you make any sense from this device?

"You don't know explosives? Show me the device." The Daemonhunter hobbles over to the device and holsters his Hellax Infernus. He extends his gauntlet over the charge with his hand out and hits a few dials on it with his other hand. The charge goes off, but the explosion gets drawn into the gauntlet as if a mini vortex was being generated by it. "There we go, that should power it for another year. "

Archeotech-30:
The Vortex Gauntlet is an ancient relic from before the horus heresy. It generates a vortex , like a vortex grenade, capable of a focused singularity. It is ideal for dealing with demolitions. Any energy it takes in it converts for its own use. These are extremely rare.

Thankfully you were here to deal with the bomb. It's rare to see such devices, especially one such as that.

What should we do now? The bombs are no longer a threat, but who ever put them there and planned to trigger them may still be at large. Or do you think the doppleganger was going to trigger it when it was further away?

Who ever set the charges might still be about nearby or waiting to do the same thing to our next shuttle. We should warn our brothers to inspect their ship before returning. The ship on route to them should be cautious and prepared for a possible ambush.

How may we be of further assistance my lord?

"I am confident that this was the work of the Doppleganger. You have completed your tasks with me. You are free to do as you see fit until the team comes back."

Amazed by the ease with which the Inquisitor dealt with the explosive device, Lucian vows to himself to further his understanding of explosive so that he may deal with them himself in future.

Thank you for your assistance my lord. We are grateful for your lessons.

Lucian then opens a channel to Watch Captain Enoch.

The situation in the docking bay has been resolved, sir. Inquisitor Ahmazzi has disabled the device, and believes it to have been the work of a doppelganger which had infiltrated the surviving Sororitas. It might be prudent to warn the Kill-Team of this development so that they can be vigilant for similar traitor activity. Lord Ahmazzi has finished with us here, do you have any further orders?

The long trek through normal space to Sekmet had proved to be an excellent opportunity for Lutha to sit down and collect himself. Much of his free time outside of his normal training regimen was spent going over the Breaching Shield that he had recovered from Phyrr. Much of the shields ancient plasteel was reinforced with new metal or, when it couldn't be salvaged, was replaced entirely. The ships tech-priests were also able to locate and reactivate a machine-spirit a dormant machine spirit, one that had been designed to assist the user with mitigating any force directed against them.

Feeling partly to blame for the unknown (and likely unfortunate) fate of the ratlings, the Lamenter also took time to research some of the different Guard regiments present in the Calixis sector. He had a feeling that the ratlings presence on the traitor barge was a clue to another chaos incursion elsewhere in the sector.
+Common Lore: Imperial Guard [200 xp]

Lucian's multiple failures on the Pious Immolation, while his brothers risked their lives aboard the traitor ship, weighed heavily on his mind in the days to follow.

Not too proud to ask for help correcting his deficiencies, Lucian sought out Colonel Folken to request a period of time training with his specialist demolitions teams. Lucian learned the essentials of working with explosives, including how to set and defuse charges, how to assess the mechanisms used in various detonators, and how best to hunt down concealed explosives without risking accidental discharge.

Following a period of reflection, penance and private study, Lucian felt confident in his abilities to deal with similar situations in future, and vowed to work even harder to earn the respect of the the Watch Captain, the Inquisitors and his Brothers.

I am not sure what effect to choose. +10 to attack would be the best option mechanically, but I really like the +1 to Cohesion option. Any comments/suggestions?

Nimon could we work together on how he acquired the sword? I am thinking an old Dark Angels weapon from the vaults perhaps?

One back aboard the Pious Immolation Valerio set to work helping with the repairs and reworking of the ship. As he helped it became more and more apparent that there was a lot of work to be done and overseen. In order to help himself mitigate some of the more menial repairs and assist him on larger ones, Valerio found himself a Servo-Skull that had once been used as some form of Log. He removed the expanded memory banks and in their place retrofitted a removable Combi-Tool in their place. He then worked the machine spirit into being able to provide assistance with basic repairs, maintenance, and interfacing with machines. Once the Servo-Skull was in working order, Valerio was able to accomplish much more, and found that it's assistance greatly reduced the stress of trying to tackle larger requests.

As he was working, Valerio took time to ask of the Magos to impart a small piece of his knowledge about Dark and Heretical Tech in order to better understand the generator and the Purifying process. @Brother Del - I just updated the discussion tab. I think 8,000 is a nice round number. I had given bonus exp to individuals so some might have a 100-500 more than you, but I think this is a good start. You will have a chance to get bonus exp in the future yourself.

@Brother Elyas- An opportunity will present itself very soon to acquire the sword. You will have it before any mission, but not until we reach Scintilla.

Arkhos turns in the skull of the creature killed to be turned into a trophy, as he has it sanctified and purified to be sure it's clear of taint.

As Arkhos meditates focusing to purge his mind and body of any taint by proper prayers and meditations.

I thought servo skull could also count as a follower?

After long and hard meditation Arkhos goes to train again in a best way to use his natural speed to react against ambushes and surprise attacks as the ones he encountered to better prepare himself to kill his enemies.

Tired Arkhos goes to the armory and asks for a weapon that would distinguish him among his equals something to be recognized by and preferably a design from his Chapter.

After the skull was now polished sanctified and properly clean of any taint and ready to be used as a trophy. "Brother Valerio, I need to speak to you"

Might be a waste I'd say...Cybernetics are kept after only paying a one time requisition cost, might be better to do it then. Also, not sure how that would work with Master Signature Gear, as a Cybernetic, especially an MIU couldn't be removed, and all you could do is maybe upgrade it...COuldn't change it like a piece or armor, weapon, or equipment...Double check the 20/40 requisition limits for those talents.

I thought about cybernetics too, I'll want to take a few maybe later if we got the requisition space. Maybe with so many people taking Sign. Wargear it might free up a few points for that kind of thing. We'll see.

On that note, QUESTION: If you typically get requisition before a mission, how does that go with the time needed to intall an implant? If they are purchased using the mission Requisition, then there probably won't be enough time for them to be installed..get them after? Or we get a mission weeks in advance and spend requis. points early? Or we say something early and GM deducts those points from next mission?

You guys have more experience than me in this area. While I might know the rules, some of you have been playing for years and know the mechanics.

PC Question: With Psy powers that say affect an creature in my PRx meters, etc, does that include brothers as well? I think some of my powers will need to be used wisely so I don't hurt our team.

"There's no such thing as friendly fire."

"Brother Arkhos, of course. I am not currently otherwise occupied -now that the ship is in workable order that is." He smiles, "What may I assist you with?"

Cybernetics are just requisitioned as normal, however once you requisition it once then it is yours forever. It is not necessary to expend the XP for signature wargear from what I understand.

I don't believe that has an "implant time" penalty associated with it. I suppose for certain missions it would be considered unavailable (like the last mission) however with enough time for proper planning and requisitioning (as was assumed for the mission planet side) I would assume that it is implied to give enough time to get the implant and healing over with.

"I will meet you at the Chapel brother I have something important for you" as Arkhos makes his way there.

I usually do not take implant time into effect, this can be explained that you had undergone what ever procedure needed prior to the mission. Unless you are from the Iron Hands or some equally obsessed chapter I would not expect you to hack your arms or legs off for implants.

Friendly fire can come into effect with certain weapons, I am usually pretty forgiving when it comes to Pskyer Powers, but psyker phenomenon can change that.

I really wanted to play as an Iron Hand, but I thought you did'nt want us in the First Founding book...Too late to change the Blood Angel? Good to know. I'll probably take a few implants later on.

As for Friendly Psy Power damage, I'll be sure to ask first. There are only a couple that I have that this applies to. But has someone pointed out, we have a lot of melee marines, so I'm gonna have to be careful.

Brother Castil, any opinion on the improvements I have chosen?

I was very specific that if you wanted to play a chapter from another book that is fine, just none of the extra stuff. Or you could even create a chapter with rites of battle. You can change if you want.

@ Brother Del, it looks good, but hard to put into context without your charecter sheet. Only seeing the upgrades, but not sure what the base is.

@Nimon, that really makes me happy. I had wanted to play an Iron hand and had created one for another game, but it fizzled before we even made it on a mission. It was the same time as I was starting this game and Blood Angel was my second choice. I normally wouldn't do this in a game, but its so early and I haven't done enough in charecter wise that it would disrupt the narrative. As we'll hopefully be playing for a while, I'll enjoy this charecter much more. Though I will keep the Blood Angel charecter build for another time, it was growing on me.

@ Everyone, I've updated the Alias with the changes. Brother Castil is from the Iron Hands Chapter. Nothing really changed skill wise or combat wise for him. Different Psy power, same forbid. lores. Oh, I can use tech now, but that's really it. If anyone has objections to this switch I'll go back to the Blood Angel.

Brother Arkhos wrote:
"I will meet you at the Chapel brother I have something important for you" as Arkhos makes his way there.

Valerio heads to the chapel, wondering what Brother Arkhos could need of him.

He meets with Arkhos, "What is it Brother?"

Brother Arkhos presents the skull of the Chaos Spawn to Valerio 'It is customary of my people to take a trophy and this is yours, for the great kill of the chaos beast to display as a trophy" as Arkhos hands hims the skull with the symbol of the inquisition on the head and attached to a silvered chain

Valerio accepts the trophy. "Thank you Brother, although I may have landed the killing blow it was a valient team effort to fell the beast."

He looks thoughtful for a moment. He reaches into his robes and withdraws his scrimshaw tools and a small ring of metal.

He begins to carve a small design around it, as it is carved it looks more and more like the lines that might be seen on circuitry.

"A gift of my own. I thank deeply you for all your assistance with the various machines we have come across. It was good to have the help."

The ring is a cog, inscribed with the words "There is only The Emperor. He is our Sheild, our Protector." in a pattern reminicient of circuitry.

"I will take it from you and display it with honor, even if I am unworthy as I am yet to prove myself" taking the ring "It was my honor to be helful, I figured that as a leader I must be a jack of all trades to understand my men and how make you all shine the brightest in the Emperor's service, but I'm still missing my moment of glory."

Valerio nods, "I underatand Brother. Speaking freely, I have always felt that the glory of a leader is an effort of the group. Take Watch-Captain Enoch, although a very capable marine, his glory is currently found in us and our successes." He smiles and claps Arkhos on the shoulder, "Do not worry about it so much, personal glory will come. For now bask in what we have wrought together my Brother."

Brother Del, I have not had the opportunity to introduce myself. I am Lucian Vartas of the Ultramarines.

I note you bear the heraldry of the Red Scorpions, a chapter I confess I know little about. I would be interested in hearing of your chapter's glorious campaigns and, if you would permit, a little of your combat doctrines. It always intrigues me to hear of how my brothers in other chapters interpret the Codex Astartes.
