Brother Elyas, Zedkiel, and Vartas

Brother Vartas:

+++Commander, this is Colonel Folken. I have a priority vox coming down for you My Lord. Shall I patch you in?+++

Brother Zedkiel (14): Takes advantage of his close proximity to the enemy armor to lob a krak grenade. You have a RF if you wish to roll it
Brother Vartas (10+): Between Brother Zedkiels grenade and Brother Vartas' weapon fire, the Chimera can go no further. It shudders to a halt in the middle of the field and shows no signs of further activity.
Rebel Horde (13): 1d100 ⇒ 74 Despite being a significantly larger force the rebels are having a difficult time staving off the superior-trained Stormtroopers. They make no progress in their favor as the skirmish carries on.
Rebel Chimeras (13): 2d100 ⇒ (51, 54) = 105 The two remaining Chimeras prioritize the kill-team, both unleashing blasts from their multi-laser turrets. One misses Brother Vartas but the other glances Brother Zedkiel once for 2d10 + 12 ⇒ (7, 10) + 12 = 29 damage. Two Chimeras remain
Stormtroopers (10-): 1d100 ⇒ 64 Though they defend themselves well, the Stormtroopers are unable to press their advantage into anything meaningful due to their small numbers.
Brother Elyas (9): Cuts into the horde from behind while they are busy with the Guardsmen. Rebel Horde has been reduced to Magnitude 37

Switching back to the Kill-Team's channel, Lucian replies to Elyas.

I mean the rebels you are currently fighting Elyas. Your example will embolden the Stormtroopers, and your prowess will show them how easily heretics fall beneath the Emperor's justice.

Although one Chimera seems to have fallen silent, the other two continue firing. With las blasts sizzling around him, Lucian sights upon the next nearest Chimera, and fires.

+++Brother Vartas, this is Watch Captain Enoch. I hope things are well with you Commander.+++

+++I am assigning one of the Brother Tech-marines from the Thunderhawk recovery team to the Manufactorum assault. He should be arriving shortly via ground transport.+++

New vox keys are transmitted that include the new brother on your channel.

+++His name is Brother Invictus and I'm placing him under your watch. Do now that I have also ordered him to put special attention into ensuring the survival of the two Dreadnoughts.+++

+++Any questions?+++

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

Watch Captain Enoch:

+++Mission proceeding adequately my lord. We are in support of Colonel Folken's forces assaulting the manufactorum. Once the main advance has taken the manufactorum, we will be entering the building to uncover what we can about the origin of this uprising.

I am glad to receive further Techmarine support, sir, as we seem to have lost contact with Brother Leon.

No questions at this time, my lord. Vartas out.+++

Switching back to the squad channel, Lucian contacts the new Techmarine, following his transfer from the teams recovering the Thunderhawk.

Brother Invictus, this is Brother Lucian Vartas, Kill-Team commander. We welcome you into our brotherhood. You are to deploy along with Brother-Librarian Castil to reinforce the honoured Ironclad Dreadnoughts, before rendezvousing with the rest of the Kill-Team to support the forces on the left flank. Understood?

Understood brother, What is the current status on our Dreadnought brothers? there have been no reports of major failures in their systems but is there any pressing damage that needs repair? I also have standing orders to escort brother Faust within the manufactorum for a an upgrade we have found to be stocked there which shall greatly aid us in this fight. Invictus responds as he immediately move to follow the orders of the brother in charge of the fight here on the surface directs, as the codex directs following orders on the battle field is paramount as if the brother in charge is to know how to play the game he needs to know where his pieces are.

i apologize but im dropping in during the middle of action and im not exactly clear on the layout of the battle field should my way be clear i make my way towards the librarian at top speed, if there are rebels in my path i move and use my flamer to fight my way through

Given that Brother Castil just annihilated the Chimera no, he is not otherwise engaged.

Brother Castil

Your lighting strikes the armor in the thickest portion, literally tearing apart adamantine plating as if it were no more than tin. Soon there is nothing left to protect the occupants and they are subject to the brunt of your abilities. Instantly they explode as the energy surges through their feeble human bodies, leaving the interior of the vehicle looking thoroughly gruesome.

"Ha ha" chuckles Brother Faust as the third and final Chimera succumbs to your warp powers. "Well then" he continues, turning to the other Dreadnought "shall we carry on the assault old friend?"

Brother Invictus and Brother Castil: you both have a chance to converse with the Dreadnoughts before they continue on their way.

"Greetings brothers, the battle looks to be going well. I am brother Invictus, ive been assigned to your kill team to assist with retaiking the maufactorum and any other objectives that may arise in the mean time. I have also been ordered to pay specail attention to the upkeep and care for your dreadnoughts and ensure they remain operational." Invictus was quick to report as he approched his brothers with haste as per his orders from Vartas

"I am under standing orders to escourt brother Faust to the manufactorum and provide a tactical upgrade which should benifit us in the following fights." Invictus continued quick to get his brothers abreast of the situation so they can proceed on the mission, idle hands will only lead to time for the rebels to cause more problems and they need no more of those if it can be helped.

"What are the pressing kill targets , what orders youve been assigned and are either of the dreadnaughts in need of repair? i shall endevor to assist with these then carry on with with my orders from the watch captian and get Faust to the manufactorum" Invictus concludes his bit looking for a sit rep from his brothers to bring himself up to speed

Brother Castil, having vanquished the last Chimera in haste, moves closer to the Dreadnaughts now that combat is at a pause. As he does, he takes notice of the incoming TechMarine and welcomes any man who understands the weakness in our flesh and takes action to correct that. Still in a hurry for a man of such youth, Castil's enthusiasm for war isn't as mature as the brothers. While the orders of escort were the first he's heard, his only concern and thought now was of his brothers and Colonel Folken.

Opening a comm to the Dreadnaughts and including the joining Techmarine, he asks for assistance before they carry on with their mission, whatever it may be. +++I have come to ask for your Iron and Hate. The Colonel's flank badly needs reinforcements, could you spare a few moments to assist the flank and my Kill team? It has been too long since I've fought with blood brothers, lend me your fury and I shall share with you my own. Come, let us show these heretics the true Hatred and strength of the Iron Hand. Let us Charge unto them fearlessly in a sight worthy of our Chapter's history books.+++

In his own excitement, like a younger brother finally getting to play with his older brothers outside, Castil rips a hole into warp blanketing himself and the Dreadnaughts in powers known only to their Chapter. It happens nearly instantaneous, Castil not even waiting for a reply, as if embracing his brothers and any ally near enough in a blanket of surging power and fortitude.

I had originally envisioned something like starting a squad with them and/or somehow accessing our Chapter Attack Pattern, as it allows us to trade reactions for full movement towards the enemy. It's the Iron Hand way, combined with my Warp powers, I hope we can charge into the Horde. Not sure how I could, I don't have command and Charm isn't relevant. So??? Maybe not even necessary, it could be something they initiate? One last thing, is it possibe to hitch a ride on a Dreadnaught? Could I somehow piggy back on one? Is that normal or a big no no/impossible difficulty for reasons unknown to my play experience. Just thought it would be easier to maintain powers and move with them if we have the attack pattern and/or I ride along with them to sustain powers and close proximity. Maybe brother Invictus gets a ride on the other? Not going to try and do anything until I gauge their reaction to my battle cry. If they agree, then I'll try and ask about hoping on...but if its a common thing, maybe they'll offer?

Brother Elyas, Zedkiel, and Vartas

Round 4

While the arrival of another battle-brother is welcomed you can't afford to lose focus on your current predicament. Brother Elyas was only able to do minor damage to the horde while Brother Zedkiel was forced to back down temporarily in the face of the two remaining Chimeras.

Brother Zedkiel (14): Treats his wounds.
Brother Vartas (10+): Does considerable damage to the second of the three Chimera's though it continues fighting regardless.
Rebel Horde (13): 1d100 ⇒ 91 Still trapped between the wrathful Dark Angel and the stubborn Stormtroopers, the rebels are still unable to effectively counter attack. At this point those that still stand look like they are in pretty bad shape. The rebel horde is now magnitude 35
Rebel Chimeras (13): 2d100 ⇒ (39, 82) = 121 This time the two armors shift their fire to the other members of the Kill-Team. Brother Elyas, engaged as he is, is miraciously spared a blast from the Multi-Laser. Brother Vartas however is not so lucky. He is hit twice for 4d10 + 24 ⇒ (1, 10, 8, 4) + 24 = 47 damage. Your cover grants you 8 additional AP if I hadn't mentioned the value already.
Stormtroopers (10-): 1d100 ⇒ 76 Continue to squander their opportunity to strike back at the rebels.
Brother Elyas (9): Only kills a few of the heretics as the rest scurry out of his grasp, filled with fear at the visage of the mighty warrior.

Rebel Chimeras (13): 2d100 ⇒ (78, 66) = 144 The transports try and pour all of their fire into the ongoing melee, aiming for Brother Elyas and the Stormtroopers, but their shots are ineffective as they try to avoid any friendly-fire.
Stormtroopers (10-): 1d100 ⇒ 65 After the sudden turn-around of the rebel infantry the Stormtroopers have suffered noticeable losses, now reduced to half of their previous strength. In light of that they are too busy trying to recover their footing to hit them back.
Brother Elyas (9):

Brother Castil and Brother Invictus

It takes only a moment for the two Dreadnoughts to consider their response:

+++Lead on Librarian+++ they say simply. You had expected a more eloquent reply and are somewhat deflated. It isn't until a second later that you realize why their words were so brief. Exhaust has started pouring out at a tenfold rate, even to the point of steam and heat coming off of their joints and weapons. Their movements become almost erratic, as if they are struggling to contain a certain burst of energy. The feeling spreads slowly to you, and to Brother Invictus as well. Their is a sort of empathetic bond forming between the four of you. You can feel their lust for glory along with their ever burning hate and vice versa. Needing little more in the way of direction the two Ancients head out for the left flank.

You can ride the two of them if you wish. Normally it would be considered a faux pas but given the current situation they are more concerned with sating their battle-lust. As long as you maintain the power you can direct their actions without speaking. You can also share your Chapter Squad Mode with the Dreadnoughts and Brother Invictus without needing Command. This benefit only lasts for the remainder of this scene.

Attacks vs horde are at +30 for ranged and melee. Don't forget.

Castil leaps onto the closest Dreadnaught, urging them forward so that he could maintain proximity and direct their actions. Recalling the unique attack pattern of the Iron Hand in his mind, he empathically is connected with his brothers and their minds think as one, agreeing on the collective decision as quickly as Castil could imagine it. They rush forward with no regard for enemy fire, making haste towards the rebel horde, closing the distance to engage them in close combat and break their cohesion.

The Dreadnoughts arrival simply marks the final nail in the rebels coffin, the other members of the kill-team having already done a number on them. A well-timed grenade from Brother Zedkiel followed by a short burst of bolter fire from Brother Vartas is enough to put another of the Chimeras out of commission. The third still looms, now threatening to crush your Apothecary beneath its treads. Suddenly Castil bursts onto the scene with reinforcements in tow. Riding the body of the Elder Faust, the two of them charge headlong into the final Chimera with such force that the vehicle is picked up and pushed onto its side just as the wrathful Dreadnought tears into its belly with a power fist. Meanwhile Brother Invictus and the other Ironclad have intervened in the ongoing melee, cutting down those few remaining rebels that had not already fallen on Brother Elyas' blade.

Seeing that their grueling ordeal has come to an end the Stormtroopers cheer and chant, led by the female Sergeant. "Praise to the Astartes!" they shout "Praise to the God-Emperor!".

COMBAT OVER

With the arrival of the Dreadnoughts and the rest of your kill-team the rebels no longer pose a significant threat and are slain rather easily. The left flank has been saved. You can choose to pursue more objectives or you can have your kill-team hunker down here and let the Colonel and his men sort the rest of the battle out.

I think I said it already but this portion of the mission is completely optional, you can choose to stop at any point. I know this mission has been running for a rather long time out of game so if you are getting tired of it we can move on. All that there is to be earned is further glory (along with xp obviously).

Brother Castil's blood lust is pure hatred in harmony with the Dreadnaughts. Now that the Colonel was safe he could turn his attention to an earlier concern. He searches within the warp trying to locate the psyker that devestated their troops earlier but can't seem to focus clearly while maintaining a connection with the Dreadnaughts.

After he comms the Colonel and kill team, not waiting for an immediate reply, he returns his attention to the Dreadnaughts and hails them +++I glimpsed yet a small part of your pain, sacrifce, and hatred. I am wiser and tempered by your experience. There is plenty more for you to accomplish, but I must depart to locate a rogue psyker. Such a being poses unimaginable dangers, for dancing with the warp requires a certain knowledge and blessing of the Emperor. Unsanctioned activity could release untold horrors and destruction, and my sword will not rest until I know it has been slain. +++

Once he's conversed with the ancient ones Castil moves to locate his kill-team, waiting for any reply concerning the psyker.

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

The destruction of the rebels lifts Lucian's heart, and although he hears the sounds of ongoing fighting in the manufactorum behind, it is clear that the heretic forces are truly defeated.

A flurry of incoming vox calls stirs Lucian from his thoughts.

Our work here is not yet done Brothers. There is more we can achieve in the Emperor's name, more heretics who deserve His justice. Let me report in to the Watch-Captain and converse with the Colonel, and we will continue with our work. See to your wargear. Zedkiel, see to any injuries.

As he checks over his own wargear, Lucian opens a vox channel to the Colonel.

Colonel Folken:
+++Colonel Folken, your men are among the finest soldiers I have ever had the privilege to fight alongside. Their conduct and skills are a credit to yourself, and they will be commended in my report. We will be moving on from this flank shortly. I trust that you and your men will be able to hold here.+++

Satisfied that the machine spirit of his heavy bolter is appropriately placated, he then cycles to the command channel to contact Watch-Captain Enoch.

Watch-Captain Enoch:
+++My lord, we have held the left flank of the assault. Colonel Folken's forces continue to press the attack on the rebel stronghold.
We have sighted suspected enemy psyker activity within the rearmost elements of the assault, and I believe that we can be of further use investigating this. As such the Kill-Team will remain in theatre for a while longer, if that is acceptable sir.
Brother Invictus requests an update on his previous orders to assist a Brother Faust. Are these still to be carried out?+++

You all hear a message come across the general vox channels as you are catching your breath.

+++Attention all troops: this is Colonel Folken. We have secured the Courtyard. I repeat: we have secured the Courtyard. The rebel forces are scattered, broken, and in full-retreat.+++

+++All commanders: prepare your troops for assault on the facility. Refer to your tactical uplinks for specific squad assignments and be prepared to move out within the hour.+++

+++Oh, and one last thing...the warriors of the Adeptus Astartes have offered high praise in relation to your conduct today. I expect continued performance worthy of such words. Colonel out.+++

Brother Castil:

You receive further communication from Colonel Folken: +++My Commanders are telling me that there was a powerful Psyker spotted among some of the retreating rebels. Right now we've got what's left of their forces pinned down on the other side of the battlefield. They're holed up pretty good My Lord, and I can't afford to commit too many of my own troops to finishing off the stragglers.+++

Brother Vartas:

And you too Brother Invictus, though you are not an Iron Hand yourself the conviction you have displayed is worthy of praise. I understand your concern Castil, and we will be moving to deal with these rebels and their witchmind soon enough. Can you sense anything about their unholy warpcraft from here?

Invictus, what does your rite with Brother Faust entail? It needs to be completed as soon as possible, there are still forces of darkness threatening our forces.

Castil clears his thoughts and really takes a moment to concentrate in the area where the Colonel had said the rebels were holed up, peeking and straining his senses to follow hints of the warp and see if they were being drawn to a being other than himself nearby.

Psyniscience test +10, Per 45 vs 1d100 ⇒ 233DOS

3DOS gives me exact position of Psyker or creature location. It doesn't necessarily give me any information according to the book. With 1-3DOS its only location with Psyniscience tests. Though earlier it just seemed to be a regular Psyker when I noticed it before.

After sensing the other being affecting the warp, he replies to Brother Vartas: I know exactly where it is, I can feel it, same as last time, but I would need to be closer to sense more.

Spooky Skeleton Scarecrow

Brother Castil:

Your own senses corroborate the Colonel's report: the Psyker is on the other side of the battlefield and is actively using its powers. You recognize its warp presence as the same one you detected at the onset of the battle.

Not necessarily a normal psyker, just less capable than yourself. Considering that you are a Rank 3 Space Marine Librarian "less capable than yourself" doesn't preclude an extremely competent human psyker.

replying to Vartas inquiry Invictus relays the orders the watch captain gave him "I have been informed that there is a contemptor dreadnought chassis within the manufactorum. The watch captain believes the Chassis will be more useful to brother Faust than his current equipment. The maufactorum should have an automated machine spirit to facilitate the sarcophagus's removal and installation in the new chassis but due to the battles here i am to over see the process to ensure it completes successfully."

"I can certainly handle the upgrade but I know not of the threats within the manufactorum, I understand there is a psyker on the loose and must be delt with but a brother at my side to protect Faust would be appreciated as to ensure the work is done and the sarcophagus is kept safe while moving between chassis" Invitus expects that his request for a single battle brother to help him complete his task should be easy to fulfill but admitting that one can use aid is not weakness, one must know their own limits.

Brother Vartas:

+++Commander, my team inside of the facility is ready to receive Elder Faust and Brother Invictus. What is your status?+++

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

Is that you Arkhos? We are standing ready with Brother Invictus and Elder Brother Faust preparing to enter the manufactorum. There is also an enemy psyker on the loose, who we hope to deal with as a matter of some urgency.

What is the status of enemy forces within the manufactorum? I have no doubt in the abilities of Brothers Faust or Invictus, but if there is still a significant heretic presence then we will enter as a Kill-Team to cleanse this place of their wickedness.

Dark Angels Assault Marine

"Brother what is our next objective?" Elyas inquires.

Spooky Skeleton Scarecrow

Routing the coordinates Brother Arkhos provided through your cartograph you can see their is an external freight elevator near your position that should take you into the facilities warehouse sub-levels.

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

Brother Invictus has orders to move into the manufactorum with Elder Brother Faust, to retrieve a relic with which to strengthen Brother Faust. Brother Arkhos is already inside, having led a second team to the objective.

Brothers Faust and Invictus, I will exload the co-ordinates provided to me by Brother Arkhos into your display systems. There is a freight elevator that will route you towards the sub-levels, where I believe Arkhos has located the relic which you seek.

The rest of us will make best speed towards the source of the enemy psychic activity, to put down this Warp-touched heretic before he unleashes any greater devastation on this world.

Data-squirting the co-ordinates to Invictus and Faust, Lucian then contacts Arkhos to inform him of the plan.

Brother Arkhos:
Brother, I have received your co-ordinates. Elder Brother Faust and Brother Invictus will shortly be making their way down to you via the freight elevator. Ensure you are ready to guide them to the relic. The remainder of us have a psyker to hunt. Keep in vox contact. Courage and honour, brother.

"As you command brother, it is good to know the chassis is already secure. good luck in your hunt! I will report in when the installation of Faust's sarcophagus is complete and get new orders at that time"

Invictus takes a moment to double check his weapons are secure and loaded then turns to Faust. "Lets get moving brother, it will be good to see a contemptor once again take the field, most of these chassis see little use of late. unless you have any concerns let us make our way toward that elevator"

Black Templar Apothecary Rank 4

Brother Zedkiel is little help with the stormtroopers, their frail mortal bodies are too far removed from his experience, and he falls in with the kill team.

"I am ready. Let us burn the witch."

Brother Vartas

Spoiler:
I am waiting, but they must make haste time is of the essence"

Spooky Skeleton Scarecrow

Brother Invcitucs

+++Indeed+++ rumbles the ancient Dreadnought. He takes a moment to speak with the other Ironclad before accompaying you. You find the elevator shortly and it looks like it was once guarded given the abandoned gun positions and vehicles. Now that the rebels have pulled back further inside the facility the post is eerily silent.

The elevator itself is unlocked. You and Brother Faust step inside and head down to the coordinates provided by Brother Arkhos. The doors open up and you see a large warehouse. Your armors machine spirit reports the signals of two other marines a short distance away, hidden within the maze of storage containers.

I know this may seem confusing Brother Invictus, but for now I'd like to ask you to post in the recruitment thread as you are now interacting largely with that team.

Everyone Else

At Brother Vartas' direction the kill-team along with the other Ironclad moves across the battlefield towards the psykers last known position. Along the way you see the fallout of the sige: bodies of both sides litter the ground along with the husks of dozens of destroyed vehicles. It looks like the rebels put up quite a fight before they were forced to pull back.

You quickly reach your new objective: a forified portion of trenchwork that is still being tenaciously held by the rebels. There are a few elements of Stormtroopers that have been deployed against them but so far they are keeping their distance. The rebels on the other hand have set themselves up for a last stand and are currently taking the opportunity to pound the Guardsmen.

Now that you are close enough you can see that most of the rebel troops have withdrawn into the depths of the trenches. However they have left behind a Leman Russ (which is parked defiantly in front of the entrance to the trenches) along with two heavy weapon teams that are using their rocket launchers to hold the Stormtroopers at bay.

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

Finding some cover to lead the Kill-Team towards, Lucian begins to assess the rebel strength and the most advantageous route of assault.

Awareness to try to spot evidence of the pysker, and to gauge the number, armament and general fighting condition of the rebel troops. Tactics: Assault Doctrine to plan a route of attack.

Awareness 85: 1d100 ⇒ 11
Tactics: Assault Doctrine 50: 1d100 ⇒ 74

The presence of the Leman Russ at the entrance to the trench system causes Lucian a moment of pause. Having used all of his demolition charges, and with the missile launcher lost in the swirl of combat, he feels woefully underprepared to take on the significant armour of the main battle tank.

Brothers, what anti-armour weaponry do we have between us? Although I suspect we can avoid contact with that tank initially, we will not be able to do so forever.

Castil, now we are closer, what can you tell me about the psyker filth?

Dark Angels Assault Marine

Hunkering down behind an immolated vehicle next to his squad leader Elyas quickly assess his remaining resources. "Krak grenades," he replies over the squad vox, That and my blade." A quick peak out from behind the scorched metal gives a sufficient view of the battlefield and an idea begins to form. "I can descend to the vulnerable rear armour," he suggests.

Tactics - Assault Doctrine, 45: 1d100 ⇒ 12

Spooky Skeleton Scarecrow

Brother Vartas:

You can detect no signs of this psyker everyone is speaking of. In fact, you can see no other rebel forces beyond the tank and the two weapon teams. You can only assume that the trenchwork must run far deeper than it looks, possibly leading into a fortified bunker or underground.

Tactics Assault Doctrine +10:

Both the Leman Russ and the two weapons teams are limited by being able to only fire at one target at a time as well as having to frequently reload their weapons. The Codex Astartes recommends taking advanatage of that weakness by baiting the enemy into wasting their shots and then swiftly destroying them while they attempt to reload.

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

It seems that these fortifications are more extensive than they appear, I suspect that there may be further rebel forces in some kind of underground bunker.

The weapon teams are relatively easy to deal with, but that main battle tank is an issue. If we can distract it, Elyas should be able to get close enough. I'll suppress the weapons teams, while Zedkiel and Castil approach in cover to destroy the heretics and their weapons. We then explore the trench system to hunt down the rogue witchmind. Any questions?
