No! My internet went down! I missed out on delicious investigation! Luckily it looks like the rest of the team asked some of the same questions I had in mind so there's no loss 'cept to my pride...

Understood, states Lucian, as he takes up position at the rear of the squad, before they descend into the darkness.

He again checks his weapon, and is satisfied that the machine spirit within is alert and ready to bring the Emperor's justice to the defiler of this sacred place.

It has been a long time since Lucian has taken rearguard in a situation like this, and he attempts to recall the proper procedure.

Lucian:
Recalling reargaurd would be a simple task so you easily pass it. You believe when pulling rear guard in a close quarters it is important to keep your head on a swivel, constantly looking behind, below and above for threats as well as keeping an eye up front to see when the squad takes a knee or uses hand signals. It is an important position, despite the perception of being the last one, and is usually only given to the most senior in a squad second to the Sgt or Captain leading the team. Any time the team opts to skip a turn , it is usually prudent for the rear guard to hold overwatch on that corner until the team has advanced a safe distance. This requires the rear guard to run to catch up often.

Brothers to day we might pass judgement on traitors, steel yourselves."

"I would not hasten to make claims of treason Brother Arkhos, I suspect there may be more to this than it seems".

"Do you know of others kill-teams at this location or should we have Tellemachus check for corruption on the guardsmen if possible?"

"No, there is little possibility of true heresy here. Far too much care was given to the tomb for a heretic. On top of that they took the effort to reseal the body in the sarcophagus after their deed was done yet they didn't dispose of the guards, clearly they were not concerned with being caught. It speaks a great deal for their respect of the shrine and it would seem that their intention was not to shame us or the Deathwatch. We may have to consider that our assailant is loyal and that his actions here have the blessing of his chapter."

I can run through my full theory in the discussion if anyone is interested, I'd like to see what everyone else is thinking too."

Dark Angels Assault Marine

Arkhos, perhaps a stupid question, but since we are not in armour, is there a shoulder guard on your robe? And is your chapter well known or should I roll something? Common lore Astrates?

"Captain," Elyas says acknowledging the order, raising his bolter and moving towards the door waiting for Arkhos to catch up. As Arkhos is by his side he says in a lowered voice: "A single attacker, an attack pattern unknown to me but swift and brutal." In his mind there is now nothing but the hunt, the words between brothers Lutha and Arkhos flies by him as leads the way in.

What are the lighting conditions? With out our armour we can't see in the dark.

GM:

Could you give me some pointer on how much a common uninitiated Dark Angel would know about traitors in general. My thoughts are that he knows nothing about the fallen. He knows that traitor marines exists and that his chapter hunts them like all other chapters, but perhaps with a little more zest than most.

Not a stupid question, it's a stupid answer of me since apparently the show the shoulder pad I wanted to place the axe (since it's a weapon with the Chapter on it, just of specific design of one of the two worlds my Chapter recruits from. It is my fault. My Chapter is well known specially from the Badab War as the Executioners fought with the Lamenters against the loyalists.

Elyas:
Traitor is sometimes a subjective term, but in your case it is pretty clear. I would think the standard Dark Angel knows a bit more about the Horus Heresy than most. If you have the Forbidden Lore :Traitor Legions than you probably know some more recent heresys. Nothing is really screaming heresy at you other than the fact this was done at the tomb, in fact if this was done on the battle field it would have been a standard practice.

Once you all get in position in the sewer, you notice it is not well lit, but it is not dark enough to hamper Astartes' senses(unless your chapter has a flaw with your Occulube or Lyman's ear). The smell makes you wish maybe you did have a weaker sense in that regard.

Captain, how much is known about the individual interred in the sarcophagus? I suspect that as he was referred to as the Unknown Hero, the answer may be very little, but any scraps of information may be of use in deducing who has taken the geneseed.

Lucian takes up position at the rear of the formation, and remains alert for threats.

"I do not know. Let's stop the chatter, and move to hand signals. No reason to advertise our presence. Questions will be answered soon."

Ok it has been aprox 24 hours since those Awareness rolls so here we go

2d10 ⇒ (6, 7) = 13

Elyas and Arkhos are eager to follow command and track down this rogue Astartes, unfortunately it has been a while since they have done as much out of their armor and miss the rigged frag grenade.

Watch Captain, Brother Elyas, Brother Arkhos, Brother Tellemachus, and Brother Leon since he came up to tap on the Watch Captain's shoulder all take 13 wounds(minus toughness) to the body(not rolling individually since PbP) You can make a dodge @ -20 for the terrain and surprise of the explosion to avoid getting hit

There are growling hisses from ahead and the objects on Brother Leon's auspex are getting nearer. You can hear splashing in the sewer waters ahead. *Edit* I meant to do initiatives, hit submit instead of preview. So roll initiatives.

These sewer beasts were common all across the Imperium, often taking various forms and shapes. This particular breed was known as "Crotalids", typically mere scavengers that take advantage of packs to hunt wounded prey. The devices on their head were unusual though and likely hinted that there was something more to these normally simply creatures.

Rolling Overwatch attacks now, I'm trying to spread my shots to as many of the crocs as possible. Is the area also small enough to pin them?

"Stand down. I am Watch Captain Enoch. Explain why you defiled the tomb of the Unknown Hero. Brother Elyas and Brother Lucian keep an eye on the Apothecary.
