Male Crimson Fists Techmarine

Valerio looks over the course with an inquisitive eye as he watches his brothers complete the course. He has not much study in the way of Assault and the course feels almost alien to him. As he lines up at the start his breathing quickens, it has been some time since he has had friendly competition with his brothers.

He approaches the first part of the course
Agility(40): 1d100 ⇒ 78 -3
He navigates the mud with a small degree of difficulty, however as he starts to wind through the trees his Servo-Arm catches on a particularly stubborn stump, slowing him down greatly. As he pulls the creek and groan of the tree and metal give way to a resounding crack as Valerio rips his Mechandrite free of it's snag.

As he approaches the next obsticale he notices a few handholds that his brothers hand used to swing up an over the trees, he grins. "Behold, the power of the Omnissiah."
Climb(45): 1d100 ⇒ 25 +2+1= +3
His servo arm whirs as it clamps down on the thick trees allowing Valerio to pull himself up with retaliative ease.

He continues running forward as the targets appear Valerio slides to a halt and draws his Bolter.
BS(40): 1d100 ⇒ 30 +2
As he dispatches the two targets the other two pop up right in front of him
WS(40): 1d100 ⇒ 44 0
He steps back in surprise, not expecting them to appear so quick, and swings wide with his Servo-Arm. He sniffs disappointingly as he punches the targets quickly before running forward to the next obstical.

Valerio stares at the door trying to read the runes before his vision scans to the side and notices the panel. Finally, something more to my liking! He pulls out his Electo-Graph and plugs into the panel, quickly clacking at keys in order to open the door.
TechUse(60): 1d100 ⇒ 64 0
He stares at the panel for a second as it glows solid Red. It doesn't change. He stalks off past the door, looking sullen.

As he enters the next room he hears the Servitors start to spin
Dodge(40): 1d100 ⇒ 89 -4
The Servitors dummy rounds strike true across Valerio's chest plate as he sends rounds flying back to meet them
BS(50): 1d100 ⇒ 61 -1
However his shots miss their mark by a good margin. Valerio sighs as he walks over and presses the button, dummy rounds plinking harmlessly to the ground around him.

Total: -3

Dark Angels Assault Marine

While most of his brethren watch each other partake in the challenge, Elyas watched the constructed environment. He had trained in such artificial constructs before as a scout in the Dark Angels and now he tried to recollect what his sergeant had tried to teach him.
Tactics (Assault Doctrine), 45: 1d100 ⇒ 33

The first patch of mud behaved like he had expected and he quickly passed through it. Ducking and weaving through the trees he continued the fast pace he had set.
Agi, 50: 1d100 ⇒ 22

When the trees towered above him, he miscalculated his approach, lost his footing several times and finally rather ungracefully passed between the trees.
Climb, 50-30: 1d100 ⇒ 32

More mud, he couldn't help smiling as he once again was knee deep. The sluggish movement was akin to the high gravity training he had done so many times before and while his aim with the bolt pistol, his combat knife went through a perfect series of attack patterns when the close threat appeared.
BS, 50-10: 1d100 ⇒ 69
WS, 55: 1d100 ⇒ 76

Pausing in front of the door he quickly gave up understanding the machine spirit and focused on the xenos markings. They reminded him of something and soon his hypno-conditioning revealed the meaning.
Forbidden Lore (Xenos), 45: 1d100 ⇒ 37

Activating the right sequence the door slid open. The hail of bullets caught him by surprise and his armour ended up taking the blunt of the attack. Pressing on he promptly closed the distance between to his attackers, knocked the firearms out of his way and slammed his fist into the button ending his run.
Dodge, 50: 1d100 ⇒ 57
WS, 55: 1d100 ⇒ 40

Re-rolling first WS, 55: 1d100 ⇒ 1
In total 5 DoS. Agi 2 DoS, Climb 1 DoF, BS 2 DoF, WS 5 DoS, Forbidden Lore (Xenos) 0 DoS/DoF, Dodge 0 DoS/DoF, WS 1DoS.

Do I get the bonus from climb if I failed the check?

Yes, you still get the overall bonus from attempting to climb those crazy trees. However, I think Arkhos ran away with this one regardless.

After everyone has completed the course, the Watch Captain calls everyone to a formation.
1d10 ⇒ 5

"You all finished the course. It was difficult and it has given you all insight on what you need to work on. The winner of this challenge is Brother Arhkos. Step forward brother."

"For completion of this training with exceptional marks I present Brother Arhkos with the Seal of Deathwatch. Let all in our organization recognize it."

You gain 5 renown and a purity seal with the Symbol of the Deathwatch as its anchor. It reads
To be Unclean
That is the Mark of the Xenos
To be Impure
That is the Mark of the Xenos
To be abhorred
That is the Mark of the Xenos
To be Reviled
That is the Mark of the Xenos
To be Hunted
That is the Mark of the Xenos
To be Purged
That is the fate of the Xenos
To be Cleansed
For that is the fate of all Xenos
You may take a full round to recite these words during combat to double the normal bonus of Hatred Xenos, making it a +20 to WS to the Kill-Team so long as they can hear you, this lasts for rounds equal to your Fellowship Bonus. Non-space marines are also inspired by this litany and will receive the normal bonuses of Hatred : Xenos when they hear it.

"All of you did well in different aspects as to be expected, but one thing many of you failed on was the ability to understand Eldar runes. Understanding vile Xenos is part of our duty, however we might abhor it. For the rest of the trip to Phyrr, Inquisitor Van Vuygens is going to spend one hour a day going over some very fundamental Xeno knowledge that will hopefully benefit you in the field."

You can all add +5% to your Forbidden Lore: Xenos

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

Congratulations Arkhos, a deserved honour. I look forward to seeing you in action when we reach Phyrr.

Thank you Watch Captain, I recgonise my deficiency and will be sure to correct it.

Dark Angels Assault Marine

The captain last comment stung a little and while his hypno-conditioning had worked Brother Elyas had hoped for more knowledge than the most basic. Wowing to improve his knowledge he made a mental note to spend more time with the data-slates. Sending a congratulatory nods to Brother Arkhos he adds: "Most impressive."

Male Black Shield Librarian 4

Tellemachus nods his head approvingly as Brother Arkhos receives his medal.
As the cheer continues, Hmm, my performance was unacceptable. My lacking in training lately seems to have failed me

"Well done, Brother Arkhos. You make the Deathwatch proud"

"Indeed Brother Arkhos, perhaps you should lead the excursion on the planet once we arrive given how comfortable you seem to be in the environment."

---

For the remainder of the trip to the Death-World Lutha elects to replace the majority of his normal rotations at the training cages and shooting rages with further exercises on the obstacle course. His normal combat habits had shown themselves to be detrimental to efficiency in this type of engagement, so he focused himself on adapting as best he could. With help of the Watch Captain the course was tweaked a few times to prevent any of the challenges from becoming stale or predictable. When such a valuable resource becomes available it is best to capitalize on it immediately before the opportunity is lost.

Kitao kneels and accepts the honors bestowed upon him

"I would accept the leadership roll so you all desire it of me" as he looks at every single one of them "I'm sure you will all do your out most to excel in this mission" as he pauses for a moment and begins

"Where there is uncertainty, I shall bring light"
"Where there is doubt, I shall sow faith"
"Where there is shame, I shall point atonement"
"Where there is rage, I shall show its course"
"My word in the soul shall be as my bolter in the field"

"Brothers, you carry the Emperor's will as your torch, with it destroy the shadows wherever you may find them" as he proceeds to look at each one of them hoping that the flames of righteousness are burning in their eyes.

"We are about to reach Phyrr. The plan is a cordon and search. Col Folken will post his men on the outskirts of the compound to catch any stragglers, Deathwatch will Drop-Pod in. Any questions?

Report In. Vote for Leader/Oath. Requisition for this mission is 200, but remember there will be rolls to see if the items you want are present due to the supplies given to the Tigers Argent.

Primary Mission Clear abandoned Adeptus Mechanicus compound of heretics.
Secondary Mission Locate evidence of other Beasthouse Activities in the sector, and or information involving Lady Wrath and possible ties to House Rathbone.

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

Reporting in

Sir, is there a schematic of the compound available so that we can plan our assault in advance? Is there any information on the numbers and technological sophistication of these heretics?

I vote for Arkhos as leader. I'll start discussing Req in Discussion. Also, just to let everyone know, I'm away this weekend, so my posting might be slightly more irregular than normal. Apologies in advance if it slows things down.

"There is some information on the old structure, but it is likely changed and overgrown. The Planet Phyrr is notorious for aggressive plant life that grows at a rapid rate. It is unknown what portions the heretics have kept up on. The beasthouse is known to employ advanced technology, especially in the area of bio-technology. Most of this technology is xeno in origin.

"How far away from the compound is our landing zone?"

Dark Angels Assault Marine

Reporting in

Quiet eagerly to accept the mantles of leadership, Elyas thinks to himself as Brother Arkhos makes his speak. A little displeased smile shows on his lips as the newcomer already seems to assume that he is to lead.

When the watch captain briefs Elyas listens. A cordon and search, a most simple operation in theory, yet also potentially dangerous, he thinks. The answer to Brother Lucian's question doesn't ease his concerns. "The fundamental structurals might provide a useful basis for our operation and I would like to see them if possible?" he asks.

A map shows up on screen. It shows the basic outer structure. A simple rectangular design. In lower levels are similar in shape and there seems to be 12 levels. There is a main tower and two smaller guard towers next to the gate of a wall that surrounds the compound.

"I am dropping you right into the compound. I do not want to give our enemy any warning. You will drop in and begin combat immediately."

Inquisitor Garthix:

Charm (52): 1d100 ⇒ 87

"Inquisitor, I don't mean to impose but the device your team used on Hredrin could provide a distinct advantage in this operation. Our previous encounter with the Beast-Masters shows that many of the creatures under their yolk had some measure of Psyker ability. Perhaps you could spare a few of the Psycollum temporarily?"

"Are there any strategic assets aside from these guard towers that we should neutralize immediately or will we focus on causing maximum damage?"

Brother Lutha:
[ooc]This would have been before you left actually cause Lord Inquisitor Gathrix is not currently on the Pious Immolation " I understand, unfortunately I am sent my Agents with Inquisitor Astrid Skane and they have all of those items with them. "

"The entire facility was abandoned, so nothing of importance was left, though I imagine the Adeptus Mechanicus would be grateful for anything recovered. It is possible some gun-servitors were left behind or other tech that the members of beasthouse have been using."

Ah well, hindsight is 20/20. We still have Tellemachus' abilities so we won't be completely vulnerable.

"Hrm, Brother Leon do you know anything pertinent about facilities such as this?"

Male Crimson Fists Techmarine

Valerio studies the map intently staring and pondering different ideas.

I'm rolling both Tactics Assault and Tactics Defensive. Assault for areas that look like points of entry and defensive to note both areas that are like to be "dug in" as well as areas we can hold easily should the need arise.

Brother Leon:
Nothing strikes you as particularly defensive, but it occurs to you that the surrounding the trees could allow someone to bypass the wall if they had the agility or right equipment. You know that the Adeptus Biologicus were developing exterminatus grade bio-weaponry on this planet.

Arkhos awaits Brother Leon analysis as he must trust that he is meant to lead Brother Leon, any findings that would be useful for the team?" as he turns to Tellemachus "I have a feeling you will be of critical import to the mission Brother, The Emperor Protects" as he makes the symbol of the aquila "The rest of us should focus on their strength and lean on your brothers for your weaknesses. If anyone else has something important to add to the mission brief, give your opinions for we are to discuss how to best deliver the Emperor's judgement on this heretics"

You come out of the warp and see the reddish planet through the stain-glass windows of the Pious Immolation. Red lights and alarms start to go off as enemy ships are detected. Immediately the powerful firestorm frigate begins to fire upon the enemies of the Empire.

"Make final preparations and load into the drop pod."

Listening to the briefing, Tellemachus grips his force sword's hilt where it was still sheathed. After the dismissal, he heads to the armory to prepare his wargear and his mind/body for the strenuous burdens of the psyker

Primary Clear abandoned Adeptus Biologicus base of heretics.

Leader Possibly Arkhos?
Oath ?

For oaths I'd suggest Oath of Glory if Arkhos is the leader.

Lutha prepares his weapons and gear, murmuring prayers contentedly to himself as he loads onto the drop pod.

Male Crimson Fists Techmarine

Valerio turns the map to point out the high wall and the higher trees.
"Hmm...Brothers, it would seem as if we may be able to breech their defenses using the trees. I would suggest a set of Astarte Harnesses, should they be available, so that we may be able to enter the facility unmolested...more or less."

He turns to Brother Hallan.

"Although I am not aware of the specifics of this facility, I do happen to know that Adeptus Biologicus was in attempt to created exterminatus class biological weapons on this planet. It would be like for us to find equipment, or quite possibly data, concerning this endeavor." He smiles a bit, "-and I am quite certain it would behoove us to return anything we can find."

I am fine with Arkhos leading us. I vote adamantly for Oath of Glory.

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

Lucian ritually arms and armours himself, taking the time time to prepare his body, his equipment and his soul for the mission ahead. Reporting to the drop bay, he greets the rest of the Kill-Team as they load into the drop pod.

The Emperor be with you today brothers. Courage and honour.

Oath of Glory seems pretty good. If we're expecting more psychic enemies like the Phyrr Cats, maybe Oath to the Emperor is worth considering.

Dark Angels Assault Marine

It had been a long time since Elyas had deployed by drop-pods, he felt the memories of his last drop slowly creep up along his spine. It had been a bad one, an air-defence laser had graced it and the guided crash had become unguided, a brother had lost his life and the rest stranded far away from the drop-zone.

As Arkhos assumed mission command, displeasure became more expressed in tone of voice and tight lips. An unknown upstart, a young chapter, almost unknown. How can he lead us? Elyas fumed.

Why Oath of Glory? I would think Oath of the Astartes or Emperor would be a better choice.

I have no ooc problem with Arkhos been mission leader, but ic I am going to silently complain :D

Oath of Glory is the only oath that has reliable long-term benefits.

Also remember that IC he pretty much swamped the rest of us in the simulation for this very mission. It's kind of hard to argue with that.

Dark Archive

Male Human Dungeon Master

Ok sounds like Oath of Glory and Arkhos is leading

You all cram into the drop pod. The drop pod has an automated storm bolter affixed to it. Once you are all secure you begin to rapidly descend into the compound on the planet below.

1d10 ⇒ 9 The drop pod lands almost exactly on target. It opens up and the Storm Bolter begins to fire. Men in assorted armor are firing from the building in the center. The north wall is overgrown with vegetation, but the rest of the compound looks like it is structurally sound. You hear howling growls from the tower in the center. The two guard towers house make-shift autocannon type weaponry that are firing on the Col Folken's men posted along the wall.

Let's do initiative

Beast House1d10 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Dark Archive

Male Human Dungeon Master

No, it closed the distance for you, but a large drop pod landing in the compound is hard not to notice, not to mention these heretics are pretty tech-savy so things like Radar and the like are not beyond their ability.

Initiative: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Lutha lumbers out of the drop pod and takes quick measure of the compound. It only occurs to him now that it would have been prudent to determine a plan of attack before they had landed, but the moment had now passed. Thinking quickly he hustles out of the open and into cover just below one of the gun nests. Grabbing a frag grenade from his belt he quickly thumbed the timer before lobbing it at the cannons crew.
