male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

1d4 ⇒ 4

Please make the following attack vs Hadarai: 1d20+14 vs AC; 3d8+4 damage.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Apologies in advance, Hadarai...

1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
3d8 + 4 ⇒ (8, 3, 2) + 4 = 17

Akahale works out how the wrecking eye operates by simple trial and error. The error lies in his misjudgement of Hadarai's position.

"Ahem ... be careful," he calls, just a little too late.

Bloody hellfire. Even greater apologies in retrospect.

"What do you think you're doing?!? Oh, nevermind, I see you've figured it out." Manny says, as Hadarai goes sailing across the room,...

BTW, Working late ALL week. Will post when able.

Male Eladrin Paladin 10

Agh, sorry I wasn't in communication. I just finished grading finals and wrapping up my school year (real life job)... I'm back now

So where were we... ah yes... I was getting hit by the giant wrecking ball.
Thanks Akahale :P

Hadarai resettles himself and glares a bit in the direction of Akahale. "Perhaps we should stop playing with that thing... "

@FabesDM:
Do I still think that Akahale and Grafire are out to get me, or did I save?
Being hit with that giant eyeball could be further evidence of their turning... or just a bad accident

After taking the 17damage, Current State:
HP: 58/78, Surges 4/12, AP 1/2
Enc. Used: -
Dailies Used: Wrath of the Gods, Majestic Halo, Lay on Hands (2/2)

If I can, I'll spend another surge, Bringing me to full

Hadarai:
You saved, but any conclusions you wish to draw are entirely up to you. You are always free to rp suspicion even if Insight checks draw a blank.

What action are you taking now?

Male Eladrin Paladin 10

It depends on whether Hadarai still thinks that the dragonbrothers are out for the bones of Sir Malagant for their own foul purposes.
Was that hit by the eyeball really an accident?
Insight Check vs Akahale: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20

Success vs discerning outside influence.

The eladrin's keen insight into the workings of the mind allows him to realise that although his new companions are already somewhat eccentric, their current paranoid attitude has been created by an outside influence. Akahale's attack against him, however, was just a result of over-eager fiddling.

Male Eladrin Paladin 10

"Friends -- our minds are not our own. Guard your feelings and make sure that we do not let this foul place turn us against each other. Well you, Mandrake, I fear for the person that goes in there -- but still be on guard."

Hadarai looks over his companions, makes sure everybody looks/feels okay, and then makes ready to continue.

"Let's wrap up our search here and keep moving. The sooner we find the source of this malaise the better."

I'll help search the room and bodies, and then make my way back to the hall.
Find anything interesting? Or just the giant ball of pain?

Current State:
HP: 78/78, Surges 3/12, AP 1/2
Enc. Used: -
Dailies Used: Wrath of the Gods, Majestic Halo, Lay on Hands (2/2)

I'm getting low on surges, not that I want to camp in here... I'm probably okay for another fight or two, but I thought I'd keep the group posted.

Manny grins at the complement. Then he looks thoughtful,...

"Hey,..."

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

"Hmm, yes it can be difficult to concentrate. There is a very foul touch to the eatheral plane in this place. One that needs to be cleansed. Fear not Hadarai, it is my duty to guard my allies. I will give my life if need be." He turns to Manny and Akahale gives them a jab. "Am I right or what..." and snickers.

I will be out of town for a week. I will be trying to check in depending on internet availability.

Only Grafire could find his own death in battle funny :D. He makes me chuckle.

Hadarai finds that the stone eye in the centre of the room is the cap to a chute with an iron ladder descending below the ground.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

"The putresence has affected my mind? Is this possible?"

Thoroughly perturbed, Akahale ruminates.

Insight: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26. Unless Fabes says otherwise, Akahale might well believe Hadarai, or want to believe him at any rate.

"It may be that you are correct." The dragonborn twitches slightly. "The invasion of my very self is intolerable. This canker must be eradicated. Cut free and destroyed. If my demolition is required, so be it."

Male Eladrin Paladin 10

So, just trying to get my bearings... we can:
Go down the tunnel in the floor.
Go back the way we came (which I think there were 2 more doors left to explore? We openning a crypt of some sort and this door --- does that leave 2 others?
Am I missing any other known paths?

Eyeballing the newly discovered ladder. "Hmm. So, which way?"

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

"Downward. The eyeball motif suggests a hiding place for these deluded cultists."

There are 3 other crypt doors.

>>>>MAP<<<<

Male Eladrin Paladin 10

Ah! Thanks for the reup of the map, I had forgotten where this room was in relation to the others (it's the one "at the bottom" of the blade bridges, yes?).

"I'm with Akahale. Let's head down."

The group descends down the ladder for 25 feet. At the bottom, they find a tunnel formed of the same strange dreamstone that they have encountered before. It is tall enough to walk down but very tight and twisting.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Proceed along it. Is it single file?

Male Eladrin Paladin 10

Someone has a light source, yes?

I'll take the lead and keep an eye out.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13

EDIT lol or NOT keep an eye out... I should probably open my eyes :)

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Actually, we don't unless someone has a sunrod they can crack. Akahale dropped his in the blade pit in his never-ending quest for abomination.

Male Eladrin Paladin 10

I *think* I have 2 in my adventurer's kit, or we could have Mandrake cast light -- it doesn't give off as much light, but it's free.

I don't believe Hadarai has used any. Who's going to carry it?

Male Eladrin Paladin 10

<---- no free hands.
I can give one of mine to Akahale (he carried the last one)

Manny can cast a light,... I think. I haven't actually used the new rituals yet. Of course, he's likely to cast the light spell on your hair for convenience sake. :)

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Manny can cast light automatically as a wizard. It's a cantrip he knows just for being awesome. He has to renew it every five minutes and it's only got a radius of 5, which might be an advantage if we don't want to advertise our advance with a sunrod in the hands of Mr "I see Tentacles".

So, who's lighting the way?

"I got this,..." Manny says, rolling up his shirt sleeves. He makes a few mystic passes, mumbles some gobbledegook, and sprinkles bat guano in the air.

Then he looks at the others and shrugs.
"Sorry. Old habit. I keep fergettin' you guys ain't carny bait."

He then mutters the true magic words (Ron-Son & Zip-po) Flicks thumb, and places the flame that appears on Akahale's head, where it spreads across the dragonborn's armored frill and glows brightly.

"There you are! Placed for convenience!" The mage says brightly.

'Brightly', get it?!? ;P

The four heroes proceed down the winding tunnel of stone, its glowing veins scintillating in the light glowing from Akahale. As it twists and turns, you begin to feel as though you could float away, a sensation some might find nauseating, couple as it is by the feeling of being crushed in this never-ending rocky hell.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Akahale allows his neck frill to flap gently, adding a psychedelic aura to the already nauseating passageway.

"I hope you are not intending to make me a target, Mage Mandrake."

The companions proceed onwards lit by the flapping frill. The group slowly makes progress in the cramped conditions, travelling for what seems an age but can only be perhaps 100 feet with no end in sight. Do you continue?

Akahale and Grafire:
Each of you can hear voices murmuring in your head, or perhaps behind you. Sometimes the meaning is discernable, along the lines that you are being followed and can never escape... Arr lae'r klo Sroovou aerb l't louaerb... vai v'rr do gairb...

Male Eladrin Paladin 10

"The trap door and ladder were placed here for a reason, this must go somewhere." Hadarai keeps going.

Perception (if necessary) 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25

Hadarai spies nothing more than the vertigo-inducing stone. The group carries on until it reaches a spiral staircase going up.

The tunnel attacks vs Will against Hadarai; Grafire; Akahale; Manny

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 291d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 121d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 171d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Hadarai is dazed (se). You cannot save in an area of dreamstone such as the tunnel.

Hadarai feels dizzy, whilst the rest of the group are unaffected by their passage through the 200 feet of weird rock.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Akahale listens to the voices, but tries to dismiss them from his mind.

"Be wary, abomination is seeking to overtake us again ... "

His voice trails off as he notices Hadarai rocking slightly and his eyes narrow suspiciously.

Male Eladrin Paladin 10

"Aggg let's try to push through this area, the stonework is making me sick." Hadarai does not want to pitch his lunch in front of his friends...

If the tunnel ends in the staircase, let's just keep going.
Fabes, Is the staircase made of the same material? Can I save while on the steps or do I need to wait till we get to the top of the stairs?

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Down the looming stairs of doom.

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

"Finally a way out of this foul tunnel. Very strange, almost as if we were followed. I also thought I heard voices of others not seen. What say the rest of you?"

Akahale Gilbrid wrote:
Down the looming stairs of doom.

Or indeed, up. That tunnel must have been very confusing!

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

You know how little sense of direction Akahale has :)

"Most certainly I heard voices, egg-brother and I am certain that our presence here will not have gone un-noticed."

Akahale gives his glowing neck frill a preparatory twitch and allows his eyes to commence their disconcerting whirling.

The group can now see that the stairs are also made of the strange stone and turn widdershins. As you reach the base of the stairs, they can hear voices. Fortunately, you can see that further up, the dreamstone blends into normal bedrock.

Manny just shrugs.

"Meh. I always hear voices. They stopped bothering me too much when I sang my Banshee drinking song,..."

"Ah! The light at the end of the tunnel!" He squeals girlishly. He hushes quickly at his companions dirty looks.

Male Eladrin Paladin 10

"Haha! With the trail of bodies we've left, it would not surprise me too much that we have not gone unnoticed."

Hadarai continues up the stairs. As soon as he's able, he'll try a save: 1d20 ⇒ 20.

Hadarai feels his head (and stomach) clear as he goes up. Ahead the stairs split around a thick wall and ascend into the room from which you can hear the droning chant.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

"Doubtless some repulsive ceremony is in progress. We shall intervene."

Male Eladrin Paladin 10

Looks like it's not a good day to be a bad guy :)

"Looks like I'm feeling better just in time. Let's ruin their party."
In a more serious note to his friends, "Remember, they like to make mental attacks, so guard your feelings! If you feel any mistrust for one another, it is just thier foul magic."

Hadarai hefts his shield higher on his should ready to storm the room.

From here you can also make out a voice intoning a prayer that is a repeating plea for the Sleeper to awaken. Directly above the split stair, you see a huge face carved in the ceiling of the wider room above. From what you can see of the face, it mimics the visage in the top of the hill. As you look, a trickle of dark liquid collects along one of the stone eye sockets and drops from it like a tear. When it hits the floor, you note its crimson color, and you smell blood.

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

"Ready your arms and keep alert."
Does the blood begin to pull together? As if form shapping.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

How much light up ahead, and is Akahale still glowing?

I see where you're going, Grafire, but no, it's just spatting on the floor like the precursor of rain. Akahale - yes, there's light, no, you're not.

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

"Press on we shall." Grafire heads up the stairs
