A mighty sarcophagus lies in the crypt behind the former door, almost filling the chamber, being 8 feet by 8 feet and 4feet tall. Its lid bears a strange image. It seems to depict a spherical, limbless being with a large tooth-filled mouth and huge single eye. At the top of the sphere are stalks or tentacles, tipped with eyes.
Dungeoneering check to recognise.

Hadarai the Third |

Hadarai will move in and check on the sarcophagus. He pokes the lid a few times with his sword (half-heartedly trying to push it open, not anything to damage it). If there's no give, he would lean into the lid with his shield.
Based on Akahale's reaction to the creature imprinted on the lid, Hadarai is a bit reluctant to actually touch it with his hands... so he's making every attemp to keep his weapons between it and him (paranoia must be contagious).
any result?
PS. Manny: How'd the show go this weekend?

Mandrake the Mad |

The Mikado! My wife and I just drove back to our alma mater last weekend to see their production of the Mikado. The university puts on a G&S opera each semester and it's a bit of a tradition for us to go back and see it. The show was excellent. Pooh-bah, Ko-ko, and Pitty-sing (sp?) easily stole the show. They were outstanding. Everyone in the cast was great, really, the crowd loved the performance, and I got to sit about five feet from the 2nd trombone who got poked at throughout the show (it was fun to see his reactions) :D ... it ranks as my most seen Gilbert and Sullivan, and probably one of my top 5 favorite!
Are you playing, acting, and/or working in the show?
The show was great, thank you for asking. I am the Tech director for the Auditorium, so I do EVERYthing, (at least it seems like it), and I was in the chorus. (Because, if I have to be there anyway, I might as well have fun doing it!) ;) AT the end of our version, our second trombone gets chased across the stage by Pish-Tush with the Axe during the finale. :D I had actually never see it before. But our Opera director spent 18 years doing comic opera for a living. The man knows how to direct a comedy. His shows are always a hit. :)
"You may hit them with your fist, or blast them all to bits, and they'll none of them be missed, they'll none of them be missed!" Manny sings under his breath as he readies his staff for when they get the large sarcophagus open.

Akahale Gilbrid |

"My list is quite extensive," remarks Akahale.
As someday it may happen that abomination's found
I've got a lengthy list, it's quite a lengthy list
Of tentacles and seafood which should all be underground
And who never would be missed - who never would be missed.
There's the fishmen made by Dagon who eviscerate at will,
The teleporting statues, and the faces in the hill.
All rabid bloodstained seers who attempt to call down doom,
The cultists who adopt an eyeball theme in every room,
And monsters who with tentacles inspire the anarchist,
They'd none of them be missed, they'll surely not be missed.

Mandrake the Mad |

Waiting for the bridge to be moved again, Manny begins humming and singing under his breath,...
"With aspect stern and robe too loooong,... We're going to trip on our saroooooong,..."
This is what I was singing, stoopid costumes were fabulous, (rental is a wonderful thing) but I kept stepping/tripping over my Japanese pants! ;P
BTW, out of town this weekend (stage combat workshop) from Th till Sun, see you all when I get back, Happy Easter! :D

Akahale Gilbrid |

Akahale is a little tunnel-visioned at this point. Onwards to the putrescence at the heart of the evil being his motto. Long motto, but that's Akahale for you.
We can think it over and make a decision at leisure as Fabes is away until Monday :)
I say go down the tempting corridor and if that fails to kill us, come back and try another door.

Twisted humanoids hunch around the outside this circular domed chamber. Dominating its center is a carving of a vast dreamstone eye that stares up from the floor from within the folds of eyelids. A chain from the ceiling stretches down to put a hook through the eye’s iris. This chain connects to others in the ceiling and must run down through the walls to the winch and levers across the room. You catch all this in a glance and then the huge stone eye grates around in its socket to look at you with a jangle of chains, and the creatures hiss and gurgle as though noticing you for the first time.
Roll Initiative! Don't forget your +2 bonus from Grafire.

They're similar. A Dungeoneering check may tell you more.
Akahale and Grafire

Hadarai the Third |

Very firmly, "Charging in is probably not your best personal course of action. Stay behind me. Or behind your bigger, armor clad brother."
Hadarai still tries to keep his shield between the twisted shapes in the room and Akahale.
He wonders what jumped up the warlock's robes, the little lizard has always been so cautious and kept to the back before...
Not trained in it, but he's curious... Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
