Knowledge Local: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Skrelznit finds a really fun bar where the drinks are on fire!

Sassarra |

kn:local: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Sassarra arranges delivery of some of the silks and spices they acquired from the sahaguin along with the note. Along with a cleaned skull of one of the sea-pests. After all, everybody on the sea hates sahaguin.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
She thinks she's hit a decent level of politeness in the note without sucking up too obviously.
Then she goes to join Skrelznit at the bar with the flaming drinks.

Hokina |

He turns to the rest of the bar and speaks loudly.
"This is a rare sight! The small scaled one sitting here, without sponsorship a Free Captain, has asked for a letter of marque!"
A round of murmurs goes goes thru the crowed.
"Anyone know what that means?"
A hand goes up and a drunk shouts out. "More Bear!"
"No" The purple man reply's,"But give that man a round for trying."
"I, Tsadok, as a formal representative for the Hurricane King, have been sent to enact the Pirate Code. The ship’s captain and officers must be tested. Their trials will show that those playing at pirates, should not waste real pirates time... Well not wholly a waste; we will have entertainment."
While a few laugh, most scowl or remain silent; waiting to see how the new comers do in their trials.

This didn't show up in my RSS feed for this campaign. I think the Paizo webservers need a Remove Curse or something.
Skrelznit proudly stands.
My captain can face any challenge-k-k-k.
Looseal screeches in agreement from the rafters.

Sassarra |

It's been crazy for me too.
"A challenge? We're definitely up for that. Though I'll still try to be entertaining as well. After all, a true Free Captain should have a sense of style."

![]() |

Ooh, let me do it, Cap'n-k-k-k!
Climb +12 I think makes me the natural choice for this.

Sassarra |

She smiles and pats him on the back. "Nobody I'd rather have helping." To the crowd, she calls out, "Prepare to be amazed, Skrelznit was raised in the rigging. He was rocked to sleep by the wind. And if certain rumors are true, he lost his innocence while forty feet in the air, hanging by one ankle." Hopefully, putting on a good show will help sway the crowd.

If it's not considered cheating, or he thinks he can get away with it, Skrelznit prepares by casting Monkey Fish (10ft Climb speed is probably not fast enough compared to skill checks, but if he falls this should hopefully help him catch himself quickly) and enabling Animal Focus (Monkey) for +4 to Climb.
He also has a little bit of Derring-Do in his back pocket for when it's needed.
Skrelznit has got this.

Hokina |

It is not cheating, if no one knows. :)
It is a Stealth check to cast a spell yourself or for someone else to cast a spell on you.
Coming to the ship, everything looks set. Tsadok's man stands ready to climb.
Make a Profession (sailor) check (you can try it untrained) to remember how to set the sail.
Then you can make your 1st two climb checks to climb the mast’s rigging

Skrelznit channels his inner monkey (Animal Focus: Monkey) and attempts to discreetly cast Monkey Fish on himself.
Stealth: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (3) + 18 = 21 Maybe not as discreet as he hoped.
Profession Sailor: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Skrelznit knows sails-k-k-k!
As the signal is given, he scrambles up the rigging like a frenetic monkey .
Climb, Animal Focus, Monkey Fish: 1d20 + 12 + 4 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 12 + 4 + 8 = 36
Climb, Animal Focus, Monkey Fish: 1d20 + 12 + 4 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 12 + 4 + 8 = 25
Perhaps a little too frenetic as he gets higher and higher, but he turns his momentary slip of the foot into a dashing tumble which uses the rope's natural sway to bounce him even higher than he would have been otherwise.
Amateur Swashbuckler Derring-Do: 1d6 + 25 ⇒ (2) + 25 = 27 Second climb check

Hokina |

No one looks to note Skrelznit's spell.
Skrelznit knows that he needs to untie the sail at four places (each a profession sailor check) 15ft a part from each other. But if you untie one side of the yard fully, then it will be harder to do the other side.
Haines climb: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
Haines climb: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Haines Boyne keeps up with Skrelznit on the other rigging.

Skrelznit redoubles his effort.

Sassarra |

You should have said you were doing an accelerated climb before rolling.
Sassarra and Zaaka keep watch for any funny business.

Sassarra |

Through their link, she'll warn Skrenznit to be on guard for sabotage.
But openly, she laughs and points, "Hey look at that bald fool up there! He must have had too much rum and thinks it's time to sail. Get down, ya sod!"
Zaaka joins in on the fun, "The sun must've baked his melon. That's why he's bald."

Skrelznit is sorry, Cap'n-k-k-k.
He looks glum initially, but brightens up at his captain's encouraging words.
What's next?

Hokina |

He smiles. "For the next test you will need better luck then. The next test will be of your talent and luck. One of you will play Bastard’s Fool against me. You have to hold your own stacks; so hope you have 100 platinum.
The rules are simple. Each hand, gamblers receive a starting hand and place their initial bets. They may then discard some of their cards and draw more to improve their hand, and bet again. Once all bets are matched, the gamblers reveal their cards and the best hand wins.
You win the pot, and you have to take a drink of rum."
A table and chairs are sit on the deck. Tsadok sits with his back to the sea.
1) ante of 1 pp
2) Each Bastard’s Fool player secretly rolls a d20. Target is 20.
3) Bet Min of 1 pp or fold.
4) secretly roll another die of her choice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, or d20)
5.a) Bet Min of 1 pp or fold.
5.b) If bet raised, go back to 4.
6) Reveal. If higher then 20; highest die is your hand.
7) winner is highest hand.
A gambler can make one of the following checks each hand (all DC 15): Bluff, Profession (gambler), or Sense Motive. A successful check adds +1 to the gambler’s score, with an additional +1 for every 5 points over the DC (even if this pushes the gambler’s final score over 20). A failed check reduces the gambler’s score by 1, with an additional –1 for every 5 points under the DC.
Each drink after the first requires a Fortitude save.
Fail gives a -1 to skill checks.

Skrelznit gots faith in you, Cap'n!

Sassarra |

She smiles. "Well, then, let's begin."
Nonverbally, she tells the others to move to places that they can see the other player's cards.
We have bonded mind, so we can communicate with no chance of being overheard. That should be worth a bonus.
She puts up her money and waits for the deal.

Skrelznit quietly tries peering through Looseal's eyes using Improved Empathic Link to see if that works.
He presumes that Looseal would be able to shift position to get the best view of the cards without arousing the suspicion that a kobold would. He purchases the largest tankard of beer available, drinking from it as needed to hide his temporarily blinded eyes.

![]() |

Skrelznit communicates telepathically with Sassara.
He's got a good hand this time. Not great, but better than yours.

![]() |

It's gonna be close, Cap'n. You're neck-and-neck with him, but he just got a pretty good card so I don't think you can bluff him out just yet.
Skrelznit has played Kobold Poker before, and has the singed scales to prove it.

![]() |

Pretty even, Cap'n. You got him by one so far.

![]() |

d10?

![]() |

Neither one of you hash a good hand, but hish is slightly better.
Skrelznit is getting slightly drunk from drinking so much beer.
