Donning the disguise of a street merchant, Talvek makes his way alone across the bridge, finding Lady Docur's school after following the directions from Hetamon. Just before entering, he drinks an extract to sharpen his memory and senses.
Sidius calls on his patron to shift his features, taking on an appearance of a thin human, dressed in the near-finery of a wealthy servant, then follows the others.
You are ushered to a side chamber by two young women, then an elven lady of stately bearing enters and locks the door. She motions everyone to sit.
Please make yourselves comfortable. you meet her glance and can tell she is assessing you based upon calculated experience.
The elegant elven woman bows gracefully to Hetamon and then turns to you.
"It is a pleasure finally meet the successors of the Silver Ravens. Let me be frank.
I do not share this lightly about the organization I run within my school for girls.
My students form a guild called the Lacunafex, and they are well trained for espionage.
I would like to propose an alliance between our organizations. As I suspect you do, I also greatly desire to eject Barzillai Thrune.
His rule in Kintargo is not good for my school and is counter to the well being of the city as whole.
"I offer a few gifts in hopes you will see the benefits of an alliance with my organization."
She presents you with a scroll of heal and a scroll of raise dead.
"I kept these in my vault in case of emergencies, but I feel they would serve Kintargo better in the hands of the city's potential liberators."
Talvek returns the assessing look, not bothering to hide it. A guild of spies sounded very, very tempting, and they could always use more allies, but enthusiasm needed to be tempered with caution.
Since this was a recommendation from Hetamon, whom he trusted and who had proved an invaluable ally time and time again, he was more inclined to accept the proposal. Besides, he was very curious about this school.
"It sounds like we have a common goal, your ladyship, and people trained in espionage are formidable resources. I appreciate the trust that you put in us by sharing this information. If I may ask, why girls?"
Lubella bowed, "It is a pleasure to meet you, Lady Docur! Kyda, at your service.
"As I'm sure you know, that's not my real name, but a nom de guerre I have adopted to shield my family from unwanted attention from the current regime."
She didn't mention that her mother was protected from Thrune's malign intentions by distance as well, living in Katapesh, almost two thousand miles away.
"We do indeed wish to cooperate with you on our common goal. We will be careful not to reveal our knowledge of the details of your organization to those who do not have Kintargo's best interests at heart."
Kenji listens but believes it’s necessary to introduce himself.
”It is a pleasure to meet you and your team! My adopted name is Scarab … may I say that these two scrolls are unbelievably valuable and that this investment alone is showing the trust that you want to put into this partnership.“ he says and suddenly howls again which is of course a little awkward.
Arcos gives a bow, ”My greetings. I am the Blue Warlock, though most of the rebels just call me Blue. Not my given name of course, but a bit of subtlety and subterfuge is a necessity in this line of work as it were.“
Sidius smiles, "And I am Brakisi, though I admit that I'm not currently wearing my own face. It's... simpler that way. "
He bows his head, "Your offer -- both of assistance in gathering intelligence, and the scrolls -- are most generous, and we are certainly not too foolish to see the wisdom in accepting both."
”Hetamon has vouched for you. But I would like to know more about why you are doing this. And what if, against all odds, you are successful? Then what is your goal? “
”And why girls? In this world girls and others often are used as slaves to those in power. I give those who would otherwise be oppressed a chance to avoid and thwart those who would restrain them. An opportunity they may not get elsewhere. “
She turns back to the rest of the group.
”This rebellion cannot happen over night. The Thrunes are too well established at the moment. And the Lord Mayor seeks more power from….unworldly sources. A coalition is needed but with careful planning.

Lubella replied, "I would like the people of Kintargo to have the choice decide their own fate.
"I also would like to free the slaves of Kintargo. I believe it is wrong for people to own other people. I know that freeing the slaves will not be popular among slave owners, particularly the nobles, so this will have to be approached very carefully.
"I agree that we are not ready to openly challenge Barzillai Thrune right now. We need to find allies elsewhere in Ravounel. We have liberated some aquatic elves being held prisoner in the ruins under the Lucky Bones. They come from the underwater village of Acisazi; we hope to make allies of the rulers there. We'll have to expand out efforts to find others with similar goals.
"Do you have suggestions about which noble families in Kintargo would be worth approaching? We haven't reached out to any yet.
"I have talked with Zachrin Vhast of the Church of Shelyn. They're not in a position to oppose Thrune at the moment, but I think they are willing to cooperate behind the scenes. I intend to have another conversation with Zachrin about aiding the poor in the city.
"I'm not sure yet about how to handle the Church of Abadar. I don't imagine that they like the prominent role of the Church of Asmodeus, but they may feel comfortable with the Church of Abadar's status within the current scheme of things. I think we want to reassure them that we don't intend to seize any of their property, or impose restrictions on their religion.
"I should also tell you that I follow the goddess Sarenrae, and want to aid others of Sarenrae's faith. I would appreciate it if you have any news about Shensen, the leader of that community."

"I wholeheartedly support that initiative, my lady. I have several sisters who would no doubt benefit from such opportunities." Talvek tips an imaginary hat at Lady Cocur, as he would not be so classless as to wear a hat indoors. He nods as Lubella lists her own goals, then adds. "I also support all my colleague's goals, and I have two of my own."
He lifts one finger. "Improving the neighbourhood of Devil's Nursery, and generally working towards lessening the prejudice and discrimination against tieflings." He pauses for a breath, aware that he has likely given Lady Cocur an important tidbit of information regarding his identity.
Another finger. "Freedom of reason, intellect and education. Everyone should have the opportunity to learn and better themselves, whether in an academical environment or in a trade, regardless of their social class or material means. And no-one should have the power to ban books or other writings."
He looks to the other Silver Ravens, then to Hetamon and Lady Cocur. "Perhaps the first topic of a council such as you propose should be to align our goals and set them in some sort of document, like a manifest. It makes it easier to rally support when you can show that you know what you want to achieve, and that you have a plan to achieve it." He chuckles. "Although the second part is still a work in progress."
Sidius says, "Honestly, my motivations are quite similar to Kyra's. This regime was already terrible for those who weren't born to wealth and power, even before his Lordliness stepped in and cast enlarge on the problem with his petty draconian policies. But, now, that man has taken things so far that it's even impacting those who could insulate themselves from the worst of things -- so it's become impossible for almost anyone to turn a blind eye and pretend things aren't *that* bad... And that, by the Everbloom, will be his downfall."
Kenji waits for a moment until the team has spoken.
"I dedicate my power and life to the battle against evil. I follow the teachings of virtue and righteousness and hope that my example can inspire others. I would risk my life to do right and fight every day to bring about a brighter future." he says with a brief howling at the end.
"A brighter future in which we learn from the errors of the past and at the same time accept our errors as the steps that we take to build better lives."
He waits a moment and then directly looks at the elven lady.
"I understand your wish for secrecy. I personally believe that we have been very open so far. Would you allow me to look into your heart to be sure that you are not hiding the darkness that we see in those that follow the Thrunes?" he asks with a kind and apologetic expression on his face.
”Well, my motivations are part personal and part political. The Thrunes took someone that was dear to me, and I should hope to find and free him or learn his fate and bring those responsible to justice. Much like Jackdaw here, I believe that all people of Kintargo should be able to think as they wish, to be able to do what they wish without the iron grip of house Thrune looming over them. Liberty, justice, and peace is what I wish for, and the Thrunes stand as the greatest obstacle to that.”
The elven woman scowls ever slightly before responding to Kenji
”I prefer we build this relationship on trust. But rest assured I will not betray you or any oaths you have taken. Once we achieve our goal, ask me then. “
”Very good. I think we have an understanding. When and where do we plan the next step? “
Lubella took out her Siver Raven figurine and explained, "We use these magical figurines to carry messages. Can you show me a spot where you would like the messages delivered? The animated figurine will leave written messages there for you to read.
"I have a handy meeting location in mind, but I want to make sure that the owner of that place is agreeable to meeting there. Can I send a raven with the message once the arrangements are made? I should be able to message you soon."
Lady Docur nods to Lubella.
Ah yes, I had remembered the original Silver Ravens were reportedly well connected. Let us hope this time the outcome is all the more positive. Follow me.
She leads you up a set of stairs to the loft and a stained glass window, which she opens.
I will check here, there is a ledge that is undisturbed and not generally visible from the ground. The Lord Mayor has many spies. But we have our own agents as well. I look forward to your message. Good evening.
She has the pair of young ladies lead you back outside, where is it mid afternoon.
Lubella suggested, "Let's go and talk to Laria. I want to run this council meeting by her, since we're thinking of holding an initital council meeting at Longroads."
Kenji cannot really read people and therefore does not know if she is really genuine but he does not want to invade her privacy and at the same does not understand her reservations to be screened for evil impulses.
"I accept your decision Lady Docur but it does not build trust in my mind. All of this could be an elaborate trap and as much as I trust Hetamon and his judgement, you could be forced to betray us because you have been threatened with the destruction of what you have built." he says plainly and again makes this strange howling sound at the end.
Sidius nods, "An excellent idea, Kyra."
To Kenji…
”As could you also be acting under the influence of other powers, my friends. But trust must start some place. I have risked much to speak as plainly as I have. I am a well known person to the Lord Mayor and other nobles. They would not hesitate to destroy me if they knew what I have entrusted to you. “
Lady Docur is well known in the city by anyone having lived in Kintargo
Her school for girls is well known and students had been enrolled from almost all the noble houses of Kintargo.

The students are trained in espionage and Lady Docur and the Lacunafex organization has close ties with the Sacred Order of Archivists and other organizations loyal to the city dating back decades.
Lubella know that the Lady Docur School for Girls was very well known, and that almost all of the noble houses had enrolled their daughters there at some point.
Hetamon pulls you aside once you exit.
”I best get back to my shop before dark. Overall, that went fairly well. I was not exactly sure what to expect. She apparently respects your work on behalf of the city. “
Lubella told Hetamon, "I'll send a raven with the details on the next meeting, once I work it out with Laria. Where's the best place for the raven to leave the note?"
After that she headed to Longroads to speak with Laria.

Well, well...wow. If it is not my long lost travelers. How have you been? I have not seen you in ages it seems. Laria mocks disappointment, but you can tell she is glad to see you.
Your usual table? Or is this going to be a visit to the storage room? she winks, indicating the now abandoned basement.
As the various members enter, she makes a mumbled whisper to Lubella.
Any signs of Rexus? I worry about him. Nobody has seen him since...well since he left.
Lubella whisspered to Laria, "The news is not good. We think Rexus may have been captured, and is perhaps being held in Castle Kintargo. I confess I am at a loss to figure out how we can help him right now; I'm sick with worry about what he could be going through."
She motioned to go to a more secluded spot where she could be more direct.
"We just came from a meeting with Lady Docur, at her School for Girls; Hetamon knows her and introduced us. She's very interested in an alliance, and wants to aid us. She even game us a couple of valuable scrolls to aid our cause. Supposedly she has access to an espionage network. Hetamon has an ide of a 'Silver Council', where we can meet in secret with like-minded individuals. What would you think about holding the first meeting here, and inviting Lady Docur? She seems sincere from what I can tell. I didn't mention your name yet; I wanted to ask you first. I promised to get back to her with plans for a meeting at an unspecified location."
She also filled Laria in on the goings on at the Lucky Bones, and her meeting with Sergio and his subsequent recruitment.

Kenji nods after the lady answered. He suddenly blanks out and enters a trance for half a minute.
“There is wisdom in your words. Thank you for your patience. I now remember that the Lacunafex organization had close ties with the Sacred Order of Archivists and other organizations loyal to the city dating back decades. I … I did not want to be too open but I was part of the iroran monastery as well! An ally like you is a boon for this organization and I hope also for my personal goal to find anything that is left from the archivist’s work!“ and two howling sounds follow his words.

Kenji will ask a couple of questions before they meet Laria so he’s aware about her significant role.
When they meet at Longroads Coffee House Kenji tries to stay in the background but then moves forward to introduce himself.
“Hello lady Laria. A pleasure to meet you!“
Kenji will explain to her his motives for joining the group in case she asks.
A stab of guilt passes through Talvek at Laria's question about Rexus. He had been thinking about their ally, and how they could rescue him if he was indeed in the castle, but it was such a risky endeavour, and they were at such a delicate point with the larger concerns... "Perhaps Lady Docur can find out where he is, exactly," he murmurs once Lubella gives her answer.
"Any, um, word of Aldren?" the tiefling then asks, feigning nonchalance as he twirls a lock of his long hair around a clawed finger.
Arcos smiles warmly at Laria, "Ms. Laria, excellent to see you. Before anything else I would love a coffee and one of those excellent croissants you make."
Laria chuckles to herself.You have the right of it. Let me get a pot going. I have a few baked goods remaining from the lunch crowd. Not as many customers. I suspect even fewer with the bridge tolls increasing tomorrow. she shakes her head as she moves to lock the front door with the 'closed' sign.
She returns with a tray and a pot of coffee.
Oh, where was I? Right, no I have not heard a peep of Aldren nor Rexus. And really not much from all of you since your big move, well until now. Oh, sorry where are my manners. It is a pleasure to meet you. You look familiar. Maybe you had been in here years ago. Well, anyway, welcome.
She grabs another round of food before listening to any proposals and news from your exploits in the southern part of the city.
”Oh dear. A meeting here? Well, maybe. I don’t want to get shut down. But with the right discretion we could…yes…ok. We have to do something. You all have risked so much. For Rexus…and his parents. Ok, sorry . I was worried about the impact this could have on the Bellflowers but …this is much bigger. Kintargo needs this. “
She sits down. Which is something none of you have ever seen her do before.
”Ok, when? What do you need from me?“
Lubella asked, "Are the Dottari watching this place too closely? We could pick a different location if it's too dangerous.
"Fairly soon, I think; when would be good for you?"
"Can you think of anyone else we should invite?"
She studied Laria's body language, watching for signs that this might not be a good idea.
Kenji does not want to intrude and listens more. He drinks his coffee.
“Thank you for your hospitality!“
"We will take all precautions. We have already made a habit of wearing disguise, and we will not arrive all at once. Perhaps we can use an alternate entrance..." Talvek is obviously thinking of the Wasp's Nest under the coffeehouse.
Laria hides her feelings well, or you are unaccustomed to seeing her this side of her.
”Yes you are welcome to this place. Downstairs is probably best. Just let me know the time. The dottari have not been watching here as much since you moved out all those teams. All the traffic has subsided. How does tomorrow or the next day sound? How many are you expecting?“
She starts counting
”Hetamon, Lady Docur, all of you. Others? “
Lubella replied "Let's schedule it for tomorrow, for whatever time you think works best. I think just those people, unless you want to invite others from the Bellflower Network. I don't think it's a good idea to invite Octavio Sabinus; it's too dangerous for him to travel across the bridge right now.
[b]"We'll need to send three ravens: one to Lady Docur, one to Hetamon, and one to the Lucky Bones, so they're not worrying about where we are."
Laria nods in agreement.
”Ok, well tomorrow it is. Midafternoon is best. Between lunch and dinner and enough traffic that people will not draw too much attention in small groups. Disguised is a good idea. “
Lubella made sure that the messages to Lady Docur and Hetamon requested that the wear disguises, and specified a mid-afternoon meeting time (about 3:00 PM).
"I think we should stay here tonight. It's probably best to avoid a lot of traffic in and out of Longroads."
She spent the rest of the day assisting Laria, and filling her in on what had happened.
"Cassius Sargaeta of the Chellish Warship the Scourge of Belial is helping us, although he doesn't know anything about the Silver Council yet. He did help us out with some of his own personal funds. He has pledged to repay us several favors for rescuing his friend Marquel Aulorian from imprisonment by the elder Aulorian.
"Eventually, I plan on asking him to grant the halfling slaves on board his ship their freedom. They are treated well, as far as I can tell, so I think it's best to wait for a while before making that request."
Kenji thanks the group for the trust when they hand him a silver raven.
“An honor to be part of this group! Tell me if you need something for the council preparations!“ he offers.
Laria jumps to preparation for the meeting room downstairs. Gathering chairs, tables etc
”I have never hosted a council meeting of this size and with city dignitaries. Let me know if you need anything else. “
The raven figures fly to their intended targets.
Talvek helps with the preparations as well, memories flooding in as he sees the Wasp's Nest again. "So you are saying that you hosted smaller council meetings?" he jokes with Laria.
"We are trying to keep things small at the start, for security reasons. You understand, no doubt."
Laria is pulled from her planning by Talvek comments
What? Oh no. Well we have hosted meetings with Bell flowers here, but nothing with someone of Lady Docur's stature. Rexus was a frequent visitor but ... A council? Not so much.
Lubella gets the impression the concern Laria has is about making a good impression on the elite Lady. The halfling woman is self conscious of her limited schooling.
Kenji just takes in all the information.
“You guys tell me please if you want me to do anything! I could for instance take care of security if you want?!“ he asks.
Lubella asked, "Laria, where do you keep your cleaning supplies? We'll help you get ready."
She organized the helpers to assist Laria in making a good impression for Lady Docur.
