Ellantera |
Uh, whoops. Retcon - I forgot #4 was already at 0 hit points. So instead it attacks Ellantera with its dogslicer using the same roll, hits and deals 1d4 points of damage, then falls over and begins dying.
Ellantera calmly reaches out with her sword and helps him along. Coup d' grace - Damage: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
"Let's get the bridge back up, eh? Can anyone get this filth off us with magic - they'll smell us before they ever see us."
She lets Shiv and Oscar take out their frustrations on the remaining dying creatures, swipes some cloth from one to wipe the worst of the offal and blood from her blade, and studies the erstwhile bridge. She lifts the end farthest from the door back into position before moving to the end near the door, ties Galyna's rope around it, and tosses the rope to someone that can pull it up.
Will that work? Oh, and the xp total is fixed.
Ellantera |
Ellantera will wait in the muck - finishing off any goblins as necessary - until the others cross. She will aid Miet by lifting her and climb up the destination side of the pit.
Climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Climb try two: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Severus "Shiv" |
Warily watching the sewer pipes for anymore goblins Shiv takes a few moments to spit out more than his usual black chew. Seeing Galyna giving him a disgusted look, he manages a sickly grin at her, "Come here lass so I kin give ya a big smootch." Satisfied that no more goblins are coming he climbs to the top of the nearest pipe and continues up the wall.
Climb Check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Climb Check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
I am assuming that all this takes long enough that his sickened condition is gone. He climbs back up into the attic and positions himself above Galyna.
DM Shisumo |
The door opens easily at Galyna's touch, and she leans into the doorway to take a look around. The floor of the next room has fallen away, leaving a narrow, charred ledge along the south and east walls. To the northwest, a second ledge heaped with crates and barrels sits, while above the rafters of the attic lay bare to view. The nearby ledge looks solid enough, but is sloped dangerously; a missed step is likely to dump the careless transgressor into yet more sewage in the pit below. Another door exits the room on the north wall.
The rafters require a DC 10 Acrobatics check to cross, just like the ones in the previous room. There are three that cross all the way to the far side of the room, along columns D, F, and H on the map; a fourth rafter in column J is broken in the middle, and only extends as far as row 14.
DM Shisumo |
Goblin Perception checks:
Archer #1: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
Archer #2: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
Archer #3: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Archer #4: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
....aaaaand saved by the distance penalties...
Suddenly, from behind the barrels on the far side of the room, four more of the stench-ridden green-skinned goblins pop up. They have Medium-sized crossbows braced on the top of the barrels, and fire a hail of bolts at Galyna before dropping behind the barrels once more.
Archer attack #1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18, damage 1d10 ⇒ 1
Archer attack #2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11, damage 1d10 ⇒ 5
Archer attack #3: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9, damage 1d10 ⇒ 3
Archer attack #4: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19, damage 1d10 ⇒ 1
Two of the bolts graze the elf, but her armor is more than tough enough to deflect the other two.
And initiatives from everyone again, please! If you beat the goblins, please take your first action! Note that, from the doorway or anywhere along the nearby ledge, the goblins have total cover unless they stand up to shoot. Shiv, you have an angle on them that only grants them standard cover.
Goblin initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Ellantera |
Miet will determine Ellantera's action. If Miet wishes, Ellantera lifted her up on round 2. Otherwise, she finished off another goblin still blowing bubbles in the sewer water. She's got a good cold angry going right now. Another ambush does not occur to her.
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Oscar Salt |
Salt is embarrassed that he was so useless in the fight, so uses one of the goblins as a stepping stone to return to the bridge. He then hears the sound of twanging crossbow bolts, and charges into the room next door.
Is it possible to get into the next room without using the bridge?...Just staying in the water?.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 Initiative
Ellantera |
When she realizes that Galyna's under fire, Ellantera looks at the bottleneck of the doorway and at her brother's perch. She will spend the round strapping her shield to her back and sheathing her sword so that her hands are free for a climb.
Are any of the stink bombs still available on the corpses? Not sure I want to go there, but it would be better that starting the place on fire.
Kassandra the Seer |
I took Shiv's initiative roll.
Kassandra remains behind while the others repair the bridge and open the door. At the first sound of crossbow fire, she feels frustration for not being able to participate in these bottleneck style fights, but does not advance yet.
Kassandra is quite limited in her remaining spells, so it might be better for the melee people move in the room before she and the other casters provide support from behind.
DM Shisumo |
There are a number of the stink missiles (they're not really bombs, in that they have no AoE) still available to grab. Also, sadly no, Oscar, the "basement" sludge pools of each room are separated from one another by earthen walls that still support the wooden walls of the structure above. Without them, it is likely the entire place would have long since collapsed by now.
Galyna can still vaguely see the shapes of the goblins moving behind the barrels, but can't really tell what's happening back there.
You can all take your next actions now.
Oscar Salt |
Oscar enters the room as soon as he can...then with a reluctant grimace waits for the proper time to enter the room.
"From the size of these bolts, and the sound of the release, I would guess those are heavy crossbows". "We should have time to rush them, as they're reloading... well if all of them have shot already... He then plunges headfirst into the toxic water, and begins swimming underwater towards their ambush point.
Severus "Shiv" |
Quickly realizing that WE are just fish in a barrel entering this room the rogue throws caution to the wind.
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (20) - 3 = 17 -10 penalty for moving full speed added in.
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 -5 penalty for moving over half speed added in.
Trying to scamper quickly and quietly down the rafter the rogue realizes that the beams creaking and dust falling are doing him no favors. Seeing the goblins beady little eyes track his movement he simply steps off the rafter and lands lightly on both barrel and crossbow underneath him, "Now we'll have no more o' that ya lil curs. Git yer arses over here ya daft laggards!"
He'll land on barrel I18. Figured the worst that could happen would be ending up in the muck below, so why not go for it.
Shisumo: Kinda have the picture that the goblins are not actually carrying the oversized crossbows here and have them sitting on top of the barrels as braces. If that is not the case and with relative ease they can quickly turn all the crossbows on him than he will land in H18 and take as much cover as he can instead.
DM Shisumo |
Weighed down by her armor and having trouble finding a good place to start her ascent, El finishes her action about half way up the wall. Shiv drops down into the muck right in front of the goblins' defenses, rapier at the ready.
Shiv will have improved cover against the goblins - but the reverse would be true as well. Also, of course, he doesn't actually threaten the squares the goblins are in without further movement.
DM Shisumo |
Galyna takes a few steps into the room and lines up a shot, while Kassandra slips in and turns the other way, trying to put distance between herself and the goblin archers.
Kassandra, can I get an Acrobatics check, please? Given that we are in combat rounds, taking 10 is not an option.
Erwin, Uraisa and Miet still to go. Also, I need to know exactly how far Oscar traveled during his move.
DM Shisumo |
The four goblins pop back up, their crossbows at the ready. On the instant, Galyna looses her own bolt, taking one of them through the head - the body falls back, the readied bolt shooting up into the crumbling rafters above. The other three take their shots, however - one at Galyna, one at Shiv and the last at Oscar.
Archer #1 shooting at Shiv (Shiv has improved cover against this attack): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17, damage 1d10 ⇒ 9
Archer #3 shooting at Oscar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14, damage 1d10 ⇒ 4
Archer #4 shooting at Galyna: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16, damage 1d10 ⇒ 6
The bolt loosed at Shiv doesn't make past the barrel, and Oscar's shield easily deflects the shot aimed at him, but Galyna takes the bolt through a crease in her armor, driving her back against the doorframe in a splash of blood. The goblins cackle gleefully as they dive behind the barrels once more.
