Female Gnome Sorceror

Miet happy just to visit nearby monuments while they all get ready

Male Human Rogue(Scout) 2nd

Shiv will go to get a lay of the land around the former "Puffy Pelican" just after dinner. Not planning on going in or anything just seeing what's around the place and routes to and from it. He'll let El know but doesn't want company so as not to draw any attention.

Human female Universalist wizard 1 | 14 AC | HP 16/16 | F+4, R+4, W+6 | Initiative +0| Perception +4 | 25’ speed |

Uraisa will have a light dinner, but is entirely too nervous to nap. If Miet wants some company, she'd be happy to tag along and look at the monuments.

Female Gnome Sorceror

Miet happy to have her along.

Ellantera knows she won't sleep, so she asks to join the two monument-seekers, sharing her meager knowledge in hopes they will teach her more.

[b]"Whew, I'm much more comfortable, with only a couple of us. I am so nervous about our first mission. I'm afraid I'm going to mess something up. Have you either done anything like this,"[b] the Mage asks of the other two.

Ellantera:
Although you know where the Puffy Pelican was (and can thus pass that information along to Shiv), you know little else about it other than that it was a tavern that closed about three years ago. As for Dockway itself, it is the city district that surrounds the busiest section of the city's docks, and is the commercial heart of Magnimar, particularly in the lower-class Shore half of the city. As with most dockside city quarters, Dockway isn't the safest place to wander the streets at night, but it's better than, say, Beacon's Point or Underbridge, the two districts to the west and east of it. Washer's Row, where you found the Amazing Zograthy, is on the western edge of Beacon's Point, perhaps three-quarters of a mile from the Pelican.

Shiv:
The Puffy Pelican turns out to be a pretty typical dockside tavern, or it used to be, anyway. You see no signs of any current use or habitation; there is a facade out in front of the building, a faded pelican still faintly visible beneath the coat of dirt and grime, and out back, a half-collapsed deck hangs over the harbor, where the low tide leaves a gap of about three feet between the bottom of the wooden planks and the surface of the water. As a smuggling or slave-transport site goes, it is a plausible one; at high tide, which will likely hit around midnight, a boat could easily coast up to the deck and pick something up with little difficulty and few watching eyes. There are three doors that Shiv can see - one on the street, one leading to the deck, and one in a small alley on the west side - as well as numerous windows. All are boarded up and none show signs of recent access.

Miet, Uraisa, and Ellantera:
There are literally dozens of monuments on the Shore, statues and frescoes and murals and more of sizes that range from a few feet to thirty feet or higher. Two of the more prominent and close by ones, however, are the Battle of Charda, in Beacon's Point, and the Eyes of the Hawk, in Dockway.

Female Gnome Sorceror

Head for the Eyes of the Hawk monument

The Eyes of the Hawk is a tall statue on the edge of a large plaza near the Irespan. The plaza and the statue both commemorate one of the most horrific and bizarre events in Magnimar's history: the invasion of terrible, spider-like creatures from within the Irespan itself. The statue shows 6 figures - two human men, identical twins who are throwing fire from their hands, a gnome woman with a bow, a half-orc woman with paired waraxes, and an elf man with rapier - fighting against a horde of spider-like beasts the size of ponies. The entire thing is about 25 feet tall, with the spider-things crawling up a spire toward the humanoid warriors battling at the top.

Knowledge (history, local, arcana or religion), DC 20 - if you are a Monument Scholar, your +2 trait bonus applies:
Practicing swordplay or other melee combat in front of the Eyes can sometimes grant a bonus on weapon damage against aberrations like the spidery shriezyx depicted on the monument for a day or so.

"Well, it's certainly interesting, I suppose," Uraisa points out.

Kassandra walks around the docks and searches for her old Sczarni acquaintences in order to learn anything else about the rumored slavers which could help the group. (their numbers, methods, reason for kidnapping); she has the ex-Sczarni trait.

Female Gnome Sorceror

Knoledge arcana

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Kassandra:
You are able to confirm what Zograthy told you - the disappearances are real, the Sczarni are not behind them, the Sczarni do not know who is behind them and would very much like to, and it has the upper echelons sufficiently worried that most of the gang leaders in the city have gone into some kind of lockdown. Beyond that, though, you don't get any more information than you already had.

Also, if everybody could stop by the discussion thread...?

Male Human Rogue(Scout) 2nd

Shiv returns and reports his findings to the group (go ahead and read Shisumo's spoiler to me). Again cleaning his fingernails with one of the inn's forks he says, "Looks ta me like the alley door is most invitin'."

Female Human Bloodrager (spelleater) Normal: AC 15/11/14, hp 11/13 AC 13/11/12, hp 15/17, rage 4/8

"So... what do we want to do? Catch these people, follow them, something else?"

Male Dwarf

"Did'ya check out the roof for access"? "Maybe we should split up and take them from several sides at once". "Wish we knew more about the place". "Think we could track down the former owner, or some former patrons"? "How about an approach by water".

Oscar puts down his small bear and wipes his hands. Perhaps we should get there a bit early and observe and see what's going on".

Female Human Bloodrager (spelleater) Normal: AC 15/11/14, hp 11/13 AC 13/11/12, hp 15/17, rage 4/8

Aww! I want a small bear, too!

Human female Universalist wizard 1 | 14 AC | HP 16/16 | F+4, R+4, W+6 | Initiative +0| Perception +4 | 25’ speed |

"Early is fine with me. Does anyone have a boat, was the first question from the mage when presented with a water approach.

Male Human Rogue(Scout) 2nd

Shiv gives Salt a nod, "I been askin' myself that same stuff. Did'nah want ta tip any creepers off by gettin' ta close. Showin' early is best and I plan on settin' up real nice and quiet on the roof." He rubs his chin in thought and spits, "That or take a short swim an come up from behind. Can any o' you lot make like river fishes with me?"

Female Human Bloodrager (spelleater) Normal: AC 15/11/14, hp 11/13 AC 13/11/12, hp 15/17, rage 4/8

"You know I'm not great at it, but I'm passable without the armor. I'd rather be standing on dry land with a longsword near to hand, really. If we had a rowboat, I would row. We have enough people to watch all sides, right? How would we tell each other what we saw?"

Male Human Rogue(Scout) 2nd

Looking over the group and sensing general reluctance to get in the water, "I'll go myself. I don't need one o' ya lot flounderin' around makin' a fuss and makin' me drag yer sorry backsides half drown from the drink." Grunting to himself as if that's settled before continuing, "The way I see it, we're nah tryin' ta kill 'em. We're jus' tryin' ta figgur out if'n they grabbed the lass we're lookin' fer. We come from all sides and make sure they git they have no option but ta talk. I'll come from dockside, ya all can figgur out who else comes from what side."

Male Dwarf

"I could remove my armor and hold my own swimming, but if there is going to be fighting, I'd rather keep it on". "Let's watch them for a while and see how they come in and how many". "I'm for going there right now, and staking out a observation place".

Female Human Bloodrager (spelleater) Normal: AC 15/11/14, hp 11/13 AC 13/11/12, hp 15/17, rage 4/8

Ellantera asks Shiv, "Was there an alley or a building across the way we could hide in while we watch?"

Human female Universalist wizard 1 | 14 AC | HP 16/16 | F+4, R+4, W+6 | Initiative +0| Perception +4 | 25’ speed |

"How about we divide up and cover all three entrances?"

Good idea on the discussion thread, Ellantera...

If you are planning to arrive early, I need to know how early as well...

Human female Universalist wizard 1 | 14 AC | HP 16/16 | F+4, R+4, W+6 | Initiative +0| Perception +4 | 25’ speed |

"Um, Ellantra, I might be able to help one group stay in contact with my group. I've got a spell that would let me communicate with someone with whispers over about 100' range.". Uraisa seemed a bit more comfortable talking about spells.

Im fine with getting there early as well. Wouldn't want to go too early, as I'm sure one of us would get spotted. What about an hour beforehand?

Female Human Bloodrager (spelleater) Normal: AC 15/11/14, hp 11/13 AC 13/11/12, hp 15/17, rage 4/8

An hour sounds good. Ellantera is wondering if there is an abandoned building across the way or a building we can perch upon nearby.

"Really? That would be useful! Do you have to know where they are, or does it just work when you think about them?"

The surrounding buildings are not abandoned, but likely wouldn't have much traffic an hour before midnight. There are buildings with roofs that would be accessible, but you might risk a confrontation with the watch should anyone wonder why you're climbing up someone else's wall.

Human female Universalist wizard 1 | 14 AC | HP 16/16 | F+4, R+4, W+6 | Initiative +0| Perception +4 | 25’ speed |

"Actually, if we are together when I cast the spell, we can go about 100' away, and can still communicate, no matter where in that 100' they are," Uraisa beams.

I think an hour would be too long, since we wouldn't have anywhere to hide, it doesn't seem.

There are alleyways and the like... but there are also eight of you.

Female Gnome Sorceror

Miet can maybe help with hiding one or two of the group behind a silent Image Assuming Shisumo is okay with the spell being used that way (Thinking making the space there standing in to appear as empty not sure if that is a bit much for a 1st lvl spell or not.

Female Human Bloodrager (spelleater) Normal: AC 15/11/14, hp 11/13 AC 13/11/12, hp 15/17, rage 4/8

Miet could create the illusion of a item to hide behind, but I don't know if that's within her power currently.

There are eight, but we should only have two in most cases, depending on where Erwin will be. The gnome might not be hard-pressed to hide in the alley and her partner could play the role of the drunk sleeping it off. I think Uraisa and Ellantera might have to 'patrol' rather than sit still.

Miet could, for example, create the illusion of a wall or fence or something at the end of an alley to give you cover if that was the desire. I need a final decision on how early you're arriving, though.

Male Human Rogue(Scout) 2nd

Plan sounds good to me so far. Shiv will plan on swimming and hiding under the deck about 30 minutes before midnight.

Male Dwarf Cleric 2

Erwin is happy to go wherever he's needed, but he's not going to ruin his garments by swimming, and he's not much good at hiding either.

Female Human Bloodrager (spelleater) Normal: AC 15/11/14, hp 11/13 AC 13/11/12, hp 15/17, rage 4/8

I think Erwin, Ellantera, and Uraisa should 'hide in plain sight' by being down the street at a point where they can see the front of the building and hear the sound of combat, but not obviously observing the building. Or perhaps seeming to watch another building.

Human female Universalist wizard 1 | 14 AC | HP 16/16 | F+4, R+4, W+6 | Initiative +0| Perception +4 | 25’ speed |

Sounds good. Let's roll!

Male Dwarf

I agree. Let's do this thing.

Human female Universalist wizard 1 | 14 AC | HP 16/16 | F+4, R+4, W+6 | Initiative +0| Perception +4 | 25’ speed |

Who wants to share the Message cantrip with me, so we can stay in contact? Tou have to sty in 110' radius. It works for 10 minutes.

Kassandra will join Oscar in the alley besides the tavern; she can share Urasia's cantrip as well if it is not too far.

On a deserted street in Dockside, about half an hour before midnight, a small group of individuals make their slow way up the narrow lane, pausing as though waiting for someone or something at the mouth of an alley across from an old, abandoned tavern. Three of them slip rapidly across the street and into the shadows next to the tavern, while the rest loiter, talking amongst themselves and paying no obvious attention to anything around. Behind the tavern, two more shapes slip quietly out of the water where an old, rotting deck meets the bay, crouching in the darkness and shivering a little as they begin to dry.

And they wait.

Okay, I have a map up here, and it is on the campaign info tab as well. It should be editable by everyone, so feel free to adjust your positions as needed.

The minutes tick by slowly; a few people walk down the street past the group huddled together across from the tavern, but they pay no mind to the loiterers, and go on their way. Water laps against the dock, and a few adventurous rats creep along the shadowy alleyway.

And then, just at midnight, a light flickers on inside the tavern's main room, visible through the tiny cracks around the boarded up windows.

Just for the record, unless you are providing lights yourselves, you are all in dim lighting, giving everyone and everything concealment right now.

Female Human Bloodrager (spelleater) Normal: AC 15/11/14, hp 11/13 AC 13/11/12, hp 15/17, rage 4/8

Ellantera gives a start, hand going to her sword. "How did they get in?" She looks around to see if there is anyone around that might be coming to meet the people within.

Uraisa will use her Message spell on Kssandra.

Whispering to Kassandra.

"Did you see how someone got in? There are some lights flickering in there now...

Male Human Rogue(Scout) 2nd

Pleased that Galyna seems to know what she is about, Shiv silently settles in to await someone arriving only to be surprised by the sudden light coming from the building. Frowning to himself he listens intently and tries to peer through the cracks between boards at the back of the building. He chooses a spot that remains out of immediate sight of the back door should someone open it and signals that Galyna do the same.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

Female Gnome Sorceror

Miet stands near the entrance of the ally using an Silent Image spell to create the Image of it just being a barrel relying on her Low light vision to keep an eye on things.

Shiv:
Unfortunately, the small cracks reveal nothing save a stretch of bare wall, likely an interior hall or something, with some kind of light source somewhere out of sight toward the front of the building. However, you do notice something else: while the back doors, like the other doors you saw, have boards over them, the boards here are not flush with the wall - in fact, they aren't even really nailed in, just resting in holes far larger than the nails themselves are to make it look as though the door is still boarded up.

Male Human Rogue(Scout) 2nd

Galyna:
In the dim light Shiv points to the nailed boards covering the back door. In fact he seems to be pointing to the nails themselves. Read Shisumo's spoiler to me to understand :)

Kassandra is surprised as the entrance of the tavern is lighted, and even more so when she realizes Uraisa did not see anyone going in. "We saw no one, it might be a trapdoor in the floor or something similar which we missed". She looks around nervously, trying to see or hear anything that might help.

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 16

"Should we try and go in to see what's happening," Uraisa asks the others, not sure how to proceed.
