Shadows over York

Game Master Rogar Valertis

It's the year of the Lord 1197 and the barony of York is besieged from all sides. Lupines and rebels circle around it like famelic wolves while dark and nefarious plans are afoot among the descendants of Caine.

It's in such a grim situation that 5 young vampires are called to defend the Barony. Can they succeed or will they fall prey to the many enemies of the Barony?

Bertrand Auton's Profile, complete subject to DM approval.

Just got back from vacation guys sorry I could not do any shared backgrounds. Plus my character does not exactly work well with others.

Regarding products:

V20 includes three catchall abilities, Hobby Talent, Professional Skill and I forget the Knowledge one.

Basically, this is an entry in the core book that allows all the secondary abilities without actually taking up space with them.

Also, for what it's worth, there will be a V20 Dark Ages book. I think later this year.

The good, the bad, and the ugly...

i revised Bertrand's stats based on your PM DM Elan. He is ready to go assuming you have no objections.

Shadow Lodge

So, thus far we have:

-Bertand Auton, Malkavian
-Edward of York, Brujah
-Edouard "Edward" Trebaol, Ravnos (and not Caitiff)
-Vito Lintini, Lasombra
-Jeremy Irons, Tzimische
-Lachlan Wemyss, Toreador

Very well, we have a couple of days more to wait for other submissions. I suggest you spend this time to hone what you did thus far. I just gave a very quick read to your posts, some submissions are excellent, while others need a bit of work. Please check backgrounds (your clan and your sire's need to be the same, for example) and roads (if you choose "path of honorable accord" it's basically the successor path to the road of kings' path of chivalry (you find it in "Road of Kings"), but it is a Sabbat path and therefore not adequate for a chronicle that predates the Sabbatt foundation by centuries.

Also note that we will be playing a prelude to the game, and teh first story will involve your collective presentation at court. Once I choose the players those will receive a PM from me describing events before being invited to Baron John's court. These PMs will be personalized according to your backstory and are meant only for your character.

I updated my profile for Appearance and added my Background (as listed above). I also changed Path to Road.

DM Elan do you want to stat our Retainers or should we?

Do it yourselves. I have no promblems with it as long as your choices are reasonable (no supernatural retainers for example)

Sounds good. I will have one Retainer (the one I dumped 2 points into) as a Ghoul but that is about as Supernatural as it will get.

Ghouls are reasonable of course. :P

Merits and Flaws:
Soothe The Beast (5 Point Merit – Liege Lord and Lackey – Aid Vampire in attempts to resist Frenzy)

Derangement (2 Point Flaw – Being forced to drink the blood of a Malkavian has deranged Philippe somewhat. Compulsion to clean things, especially Bertrand when he becomes unbearably filthy).
Addiction (3 Point Flaw – Alcohol)

Freebie Expenditure 21 Points – 10 Auspex 1, 8 4 points of Willpower, 2 1 point of Self-Control, 1 Background Contacts

As Philippe is a 2 Point Retainer I am giving him an additional 7 points of Freebies to reflect his superiority over Jenny, a 1 point Retainer. Additional points spent on Strength 4 and Melee 4.

Philippe was once an up and coming ghoul amongst the Ventrue Aristocracy in Paris. Jockeying for a position to serve the Prince himself Philippe made a misstep (which he refuses to discuss) which led to him being the Handler of Bertrand. Even worse he was forced to drink the blood of the lower clan filth. Piling worse on top of worse the Prince himself bid Philippe to look after Bertrand during his journey to the British Isles. Bertrand has taken a liking to Bertrand despite his current loss of status. The relationship has paid dividends as the Malkavian has taught him how to enhance his own weak human senses. Now he just needs to stay alive long enough to return to Paris and reap his reward of eternal life!

Note: Philippe is blood bound to a Ventrue Anacillae of Paris who was willing to loan his Ghoul to Alexander’s pet Malkavian (after all what choice did he have?)

Philippe arrived in London with Bertrand in tow. Soon he recognized he would need a second set of hands to aid him with the Madman. To ensure acceptance by Bertrand (who is quite hard to get along with from night to night) he picked a street entertainer. A woman trying to earn a living through skill as opposed to the use of her body. While Philippe is obviously disdainful of her station Jenny is just glad for the opportunity to get away from the filthy streets of London and so she puts up with him.

She got more than she bargained for once she realized that Bertrand was a Vampire. However, are not most Lords and Ladies not the same thing? Do they not suck the life out of the peasantry? At least Vampires are up front about what they are doing. Jenny has yet to partake of any blood from Bertrand who has yet to offer. Philippe only gets blood because he insists on it.

Jenny sees Bertrand as a talented but tragic figure and hopes her presence can help heal, his fractured mind (it can’t but she does not know that).

Jenny has her own demons which Philippe and Bertrand know nothing about. The least of which is the fact that she is an open member of the Druidic order. Of course some secrets she knows nothing about either…

Dark Archive

After constant changes, I think I'm finally final. Tweaked and tweaked away. No more tweaks and changes I promise.

I'm really excited about this game. Been talking to Edouard, Algar and Drayen about their characters, we've worked out some good stuff together I think, which we will build on.

Good luck to everyone as the deadline approaches.

Character sheet is fully finished, background is a work in progress. Didn't get real inspiration till tonight.

Character finished and awaiting your review!

Grand Lodge

Indeed Lord zeek

Dark Archive

@ Lachlan Wemyss. Your backstory is a great read. Really well written.

- Edward of York

Agreed on Lachlan's background Lord Zekk, well done Drayen!

Dark Archive

Is it possible to start with an out of clan discipline with the 4 starting dots? For example could one take a level of protean?

No I think the rules are pretty specific in the Dark Ages Book that out-of-clan can only be purchased with freebie points.

Getting closer to finishing this character.

I secretly wish every one of thse characters would be able to play. I would like to see these concepts in action!

This!

I'm at work, and thus without my books, but I do recall a comment about some restriction. However, I can't remember if it's all four dots or only 3.

Monkeygod wrote:

At creation you can spend 4 dots among CLAN disciplines. At creation you can buy out of clan disciplines ONLY with bonus points (at the hefty cost of 7 bp per dot)

Dark Archive

Isn't that the same for a dot in a clan discipline? That's what I paid for an extra dot of Celerity which is clan, unless I made a mistake and I have 2 more bonus points! (Oh yeah!)

Yeah, the bonus point costs are 7 for in and out-of-clan Disciplines.

I have made several minor adjustments to my character.

I feel like the history is a rough draft that needs work and will never be as good as I want it to be.

Maybe the DM will bring us all in for the meeting with the prince and then decide whom to send into exile thus keeping that back-up player handy.

@DM Elan Morin - It looks as though you have the players for this game. Being a big fan of Vampire, I would be very interested in joining should you ever have an opening.

Yeah, the history can always be expanded but at some point it is good enough and you just have to move on :-)

I think my background for Bertrand was as long as my background for Beschi Kender Kin and Beschi had about 400 years more of Unlife to discuss! Only in a perfect world can you have a 30 page background for a character in an RPG. Plus the ST needs room to fill things into your background that he will utilize in the campaign. I know I certainly do that with great frequency both in D&D and Vampire games I run.

Send your character, you still have 1 day (20 hours more less)

I will try to get something together by the deadline. Looking back through the thread, I am glad Monkeygod chose to go the abyss mystic route, as I will be building a Lasombra Ashen Knight.

I'm stuck on Sire/Mentor, in my RL games, they never mattered, and thus I have no real practice with them. I suppose I could just go with some random Lasombra, but that just seems so boring.

Thanks, Lord Zekk and Storyteller Shadow for your support!

Lord Zekk wrote:

Just in case this was from the review of my character's disciplines, you can take Potence with your starting four points if you have the 3 point merit "Former Ghoul".

@ DM Elan Morin - I just saw your post about us building our own ghouls. I will do so now. It shouldn't take but a minute as it's mostly a copy/paste job from my own stats.

Change of plans, given Monkeygod's Lasombra and Drayen's Ashen Knight and a desire to not step on anyone's toes.

If I happen to get something in by the deadline, it will be a Gangrel who fought for Baron John, or failing that the childe of one of the Gangrel who fought for John depending on how long John has been in power.

I would start with the initial post that the DM said everyone knows about the individual clans. I see some potential there for your sire and/or mentor.

Mine was easy my sire was very deceptive and could have been any random Ravnos, though appearing male could have been the female listed in the description.

Recruitment thread CLOSED

Edouard "Edward" Trebaol
Lachlan Wemyss
Bertrand Auton
Edward of York
Vito Lintini

Have been chosen as players, sorry Algar and Talomyr, if anything changes, you are still willing and the game lasts long enough I will consider you as sobstitute characters first.

Everyone else should have gotten PMs. We'll start once everything is in order (2 preludes have already been sent)

No problems, I'll lurk for now. I'll keep working on the character on the off chance an opening becomes available. To those who have been selected, good luck in the long night.

Grand Lodge

sure...

Shadow Lodge

Brief update: 3 prologues were sent to finished characters, 2 still need to be sent, Edward of York should almost be finished while Vito had some health problems and might need more time.

Hopefully we'll be able to start tomorrow.

Sounds good!

Agreed!

Ok guys, I must apologize. The meds I'm on make me rather drowsy, so I've been sleeping a fair amount since I've gotten home on Sat.

I'm planning on finishing up my background today.

Shadow Lodge

Discussion and Gameplay threads are open, Vito will join us when his character is ready.

I did agree the Edouard would be my ward and so I would be responsible for him. This looks like an good time to put that into play.

-Posted with Wayfinder

I just put that in the gamethread as a spoiler.

Weird timing.

Shadow Lodge

This is the recruitment thread... but ok, just step in and tell the baron you will provide the education for your ward yourself.
