Shadows of Sand GM |

Good point, Zaza! This guy's AC is 15 instead of his normal 28 thanks to you right now! So that's 24 damage from the eagle squad!

Amari Al'Fahd |

New one for sure.
Old one ... I guess the same as with Inspector-bane-water-sphere, so old one still in effect.
Amari stares down at the dazzled, face-down drow before him with a grim and somewhat melancholic expression.
Your way of fighting was good.
But your path was ill chosen.
Fighting prowess without a blessed purpose will bring you only ruin.
Now die and may your fighting spirit may be reborn in a worthier soul.
Then, with blistering speed, the black-skinned archer draws and fires three rapid shots at the drow at his feet.
Flurry Attack #1: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 11 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 28
Damage: 2d6 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3, 4) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 12
Flurry Attack #2: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 11 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 23
Damage: 2d6 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1, 4) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 10
Ki Arrow away!: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 11 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 15
Damage: 2d6 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4, 1) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 10
Him being prone means he gets a +4 AC against all of them.
Little bit stupid if you consider that he lies right in front of me though ;-)

Shadows of Sand GM |

Amari is correct. Old glitterdust is still in effect but new one is gone.

Shadows of Sand GM |

I still need you to go, Agaban. You around, man? Also, Lo did you need to be making saves against new glitterdust or old? If new, then it was my mistake and you aren't blinded anymore.

Shadows of Sand GM |

Skipping Agaban again. You still with us, buddy? The prone rules are a little odd in pathfinder, agreed. In 5e, shooting a prone person in melee has zero penalties or bonuses.
Amari manages to land one shot on the prone monk.
The monk shakes his head to clear his vision. Then he stands up (provoking from Zaza and remaining eagles) and punches Zaza (2 damage and DC 15 fort save or be stunned for 1 round).
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Confirm: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Dam: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4
Everyone, GO! Lo'laan, the old glitterdust has worn off so you and Serenity can see now.

![]() |

Get it together, old man. You came to help, so get your head out of your ass and help.
With a big breath and a surge of energy, Saul jumps out from behind the crates and attempts to slam the last drow in the back of the head with his mace.
MW mace attack power attack flanking and two points of inspiration: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 + (3) = 221d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Zatinya |
Quick note--no more Inspire Courage because Zaza ended it for Saving Finale on Saul.
As the monk stands, Zaza and the three eagles attack!
Zaza and the eagles, sounds like a rock band name.
Zaza Cestus: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7; Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Bite 1: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 1 = 10; Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Bite 2: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 1 = 21; Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Bite 3: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 1 = 20; Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
As Zaza tries to press the attack, she is struck by the monk.
Fort vs stunning fist, DC15: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
And now stands there, stunned into submission. Her remaining eagle companions vanish.
Welp, that's the end of my contribution. Go finish him!

Amari Al'Fahd |

Things are getting crowdy around the last drow, so Amari slows down a notch, trying to place his shots even more careful than before.
Flurry Attack #1: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 11 + 1 = 26
Damage: 2d6 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2, 5) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 12
Flurry Attack #2: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 11 + 1 = 22
Damage: 2d6 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 8
I'll spend 4 points of CS to make that #1 a 30-to-hit, hopefully enough to finally down that guy.

Shadows of Sand GM |

Amari fires an excellent shot heading straight for the Drow but the wily monk knocks the arrow aside at the last moment!
Good shot but this guy has deflect arrows, which is a ridiculously good feat. He didn't use it when prone and blind, though. Lo'laan and Agaban still to go.

Shadows of Sand GM |

Acrobatics to leap across or you can run on the squares outside it without falling in but you have to save at the end of your turn if you end adjacent to the pit.
I suppose I should bot Agaban a bit here.
The undine cleric raises his holy symbol and casts bless on you all!
Lo still to go.

Lo'Laan Jin |

Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 9 - 1 = 22
Damage: 1d10 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 3 = 16
Ref: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Now free from his blindness Lo'Laan lunges forward with his glaive.

Shadows of Sand GM |

Nobody manages to land a blow on the wily drow, who sidesteps and punches at Zaza again, landing two light blows.
Attacks: 2d20 ⇒ (17, 15) = 32
Dam: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7
The pit in the ground dissolves into a normal floor again.
Three damage to Zaza. This monk is hyper-specialized for defense and disabling but not damage. Everyone, GO!

![]() |

"Gah! Damn it! Take this guy out!"
Saul five foot steps forward and tries to grapple the monk. [provokes]
grapple with combat stamina: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 29

Shadows of Sand GM |

Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Dam: 1d6 ⇒ 5
The monk punches Saul but ends up getting grabbed by the arm anyway!
2 damage to Saul but a very successful grapple!

Lo'Laan Jin |

Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 9 - 1 = 9
Bite: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 8 - 1 = 15
Claw: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 8 - 1 = 27 Claw: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 8 - 1 = 16
Claw: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 8 - 1 = 20

Damage: 1d3 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 2 = 8
"I'm trying!" Lo roars back.
With the conjured pit now out of the way Lo and Serenity assail their last foe.

Zatinya |
"Stop tickling me, drow," says Zaza as she comes to her senses once more. The monk was striking accurately, but not especially hard.
She bluffs swinging her cestus at the monk, trying to bait a reaction. She then steps back and swings her other arm, using her whip to try and trip the grappled monk.
Feint, 5-foot step, trip with whip.
Feint: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Trip, flank: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 2 = 17

Amari Al'Fahd |

Seeing what the newcomer is up to, Amari quickly stows his bow, reaches for a rope and comes to the other mans aid.
Aid Another, Grapple, No-AoO: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Here, have a rope. If you manage to maintain grapple (+5 for maintain, +2 from me) we may be able to tie him up!

Shadows of Sand GM |

Skipping Agaban.
Saul grapples the monk while Lo'laan misses but Serenity gets in one good slash. Hadha fires his magical energy at the monk but misses. Zaza attempts to deceive the monk, who realizes her deception but just a second too late! Her whip wraps around his ankle and brings him to the ground!
I forgot deft maneuvers lets Zaza feint as a move action.
Escape artist: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
On the ground, the monk slides nimbly out of the Taldane's grip and stands up.
He provokes from everyone threatening him. Escape artist as a standard (27) then stand up as a move. No room to 5 ft step. Party, GO!!

![]() |

Suddenly feeling his age, Saul can't hold the slippery monk.out of stamina. fatigued, I think?
Blast it! Confound it, Saul. Twenty years ago this bloke would have been food for worms by now.
MW mace attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 2 - 1 = 161d8 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 - 1 = 6
grappling provokes AoO: 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 2 - 1 = 20
He gets a -4 on AC because he is prone but I bet my 16 still misses. I was hoping to just lower his AC by grappling him, and give you all a chance to hit him, but it probably only worked because of a lucky natural 20. I'll try it again but not expecting much.

Hadha Al-Yatim |

Hadha tries to switch tactics a little and alters his ray slightly. It leaps forth again!
Disrupt patter ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 6 - 4 = 16
Minimum damage for 8. If he's hit he is entangled for 4 rounds. Escape is DC 18 Str or escape artist check as a move.
A cryptic with this insight can cause creatures struck with her disrupt pattern ability to become entangled for a number of rounds equal to the cryptic’s Intelligence modifier, although the disrupt pattern damage is minimized (all dice rolls are treated as 1s). Entangled creatures can attempt to break free as a move action, making a Strength or Escape Artist check. The DC for this check is equal to the 10 + 1/2 the cryptic’s level + the cryptic’s Intelligence modifier. A cryptic must be at least 4th level before selecting this insight.

Zatinya |
Cestus AOO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25; Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2 Maybe?
Realizing that her foe was having trouble predicting her flowing movements, Zaza tries to get the monk to stumble once more.
Feint: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Trip, flank: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Still, it seems she was trying to do too much. She takes a step back. "Fill the gap, Lo! she instructs.
Vacated a spot so Serenity and Lo can both 5-foot step and attack.

Shadows of Sand GM |

Paul misses the standing monk while Hadha can't manage to land his spell on him either. Zaza, however, does wound him slightly. She then succeeds at deceiving him but fails to trip him.
AoO: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Dam: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Saul doesn't manage to grab the monk and gets punched for his efforts (2 damage).
Thanks for putting the binding pattern explanation there Hadha.

Lo'Laan Jin |

AoO: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 9 - 1 = 28 Confirm: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 9 - 1 = 17

Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 9 - 1 = 28 Confirm: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 9 - 1 = 13

Bite: 1d20 + 8 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 8 - 1 + 2 = 11
Claw: 1d20 + 8 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 - 1 + 2 = 13
Claw: 1d20 + 8 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 8 - 1 + 2 = 11
Serenity and Lo move closer, the hunter makes two large sweeps with his glaive hoping to put the enemy down.

Shadows of Sand GM |

They don't confirm but that doesn't matter!
With two mighty sweeps, Lo'laan finishes off the drow monk, who collapses in a loose pile. Catching your breath, you eye the Taldane who leapt into the fight to help you out against these underworlders...

Zatinya |
I keep forgetting Lo uses a reach weapon.
Zaza looks to the man who had been following them, and who now had seemingly proven himself an ally. Or at least an enemy of these drow. "Your help was not unwelcome, but you almost got yourself killed by that spellcaster. Who are you, and why are you here?"
Zaza matter-of-factly drops a few healing wand charges on her allies even as she speaks, wanting to get everyone in good shape quickly. She conspicuously does not heal the injured newcomer.
CLW Zaza: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW Zaza: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW Amari: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
CLW Hadha: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Let me know if you're down more HP, I'm just going off everyone's stat line. You can also roll your own CLW (except Saul, you'll get that later). I believe Saul is not in the best of shape, but not sure.

Amari Al'Fahd |

Amari gets off the crate at last pads Lo's shoulder as if praising him and then gives a short nod to every Shadow in turn.
Eyeing the newcomer, Amari quickly steps out of the door, checking the surrounding of the warehouse, whether any guards noticed the ruckus of the fight.

Shadows of Sand GM |

The warehouse is in a fairly isolated portion of the town and it appears no one paid it any heed.

![]() |

The dame is as blonde as hell, with curves in all the right places. She might be a Qadiran, but a dame is a dame is a dame, and I'm the man who knows how to talk to them.
Exhausted, Saul slumps down against the pile of boxes. The tall brown-skinned man looks like a man ten years out of his prime and clothes that match. His long leather duster was once a mark of office, a badge of sort, but now the ends are frayed and more than a couple patches hold it together.
"Who am I? This is my country, so I should be asking who are you? A dame in trouble, I'm guessing, but the rest of you look more like thick headed goons. You lot stick out like a sore thumb in this town, flitting around like stool pigeons being pressed by the law. Sneaking into buildings that don't belong to you..."
Damn. What kind of mess have you walked into, Gibson?
"But maybe in this case you were onto something. Drow. Never a good thing to find in your backyard. The name is Gibson, Saul Gibson. I'm a private eye, a gumshoe... the kind of guy who notices when a group of strangers come into town under false pretenses."

Zatinya |
Zaza holds her gaze steady as he sees the man give her a once over. "Gibson, is it?" Deciding he was in no condition to fight back, she approaches him confidently. "You know, it's not nice to follow someone just because they're Qadiran. That kind of mistrust is what causes such trouble between our two nations."
She looks back at her allies, then starts to gesture with her hands. She assumes Saul does not understand (though he might).
<What do we do with this one? Kill him, or have him join us? Both paths have their dangers. But at least we know this one does not work for the drow. He seems more like a rogue agent.>

Hadha Al-Yatim |

<He is one of the Streets. I know his type, for we are cut of opposite sides of the same cloth. Little can hide from such a man. We must be careful with him no matter what we decide. He will be known around here. He may be missed if he disappears.>

![]() |

Saul can speak drow sign language, and read lips. What exactly are you doing?
"A blind man could see you lot were riling up for some trouble. I was following you because you lot were acting strange, not because of your nationality. To me, a good lookin' dame is a good lookin' dame and I don't care where your parents were born. But listen here. You came across a warehouse full o drow and I don't take too kindly to that. If drow were in my town, and clearly they are enemies of yours, then I want to know what is going on. I've had dealings with them before, in a different life, and I don't like 'em."

Shadows of Sand GM |

Yes it's specific to a monastery in Qadira but I'll rule Saul can learn it for free if you guys choose to teach him since he already knows a similar sign language. If you choose not to, he's have to make some checks to learn over time.

Zatinya |
Zatinya figures to continue the conversation, as it would only help in deciding what to do with this stranger. Not to mention she was warming up to this Taldan.
"Oh? You've dealt with these drow before? That's a rare thing. We don't like them either. So it seems we have a common enemy, old man. I believe you called yourself a, "private eye." Does that mean you're for hire? What would it cost to pay for your services, and your secrecy?"

Amari Al'Fahd |

The black-skinned man with the mihawk return from the door and gives a brief, confirming nod.
Then he quicly signs to his comrades.
<The foe of my enemy is a knive in the back.
The back of the enemy, if he is clever.
The own, if he is a foul.
Both, if he is a scorpion.
The question is:
is he a foul or a scorpion?>

![]() |

Saul licks his lips inadvertently at talk of money.
"Saul Gibson Enterprises is taking new clients. The business is composed of two us, myself, being the brains, and my partner, Jackdaw, being the muscle. Too bad Jackdaw wasn't here for this fight, but it all happened so fast. The two of us will help you locate and fight these drow, and knowing drow, there is plenty of magic and gold already in their pockets. All we ask for is 2 shares from the haul. Seems fair, doesn't it?"

Zatinya |
<Be he foul or scorpion, he seems easily bought. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer, as they say.>
"Jackdaw? There's more of you?" says Zaza in perhaps exaggerated surprise. Her expression returns to a confident smile. "I like you, against my better judgment I do. Your muscular friend, on the other hand, probably isn't my type. I like a man who is stealthy, cunning, and discrete, something that seems to fit your skill set. Come with me and you'll get your share of anything we find, not to mention the satisfaction of facing these drow. I can already tell you're interested, so what do you say?"

![]() |

my post from Sunday got eaten. it has happening to me a ton recently on paizo webpage.
"Jackdaw and me, we are in. Don't worry, you'll like the chap. Knows his way around a battle. I set up the investigation, then its his job to go in and do the dirty clean up, you get me? So then, tell me more. Why are you here? Seems strange you are chasing drow across the border."

Zatinya |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
The fiery blonde purses her lips for a moment, annoyed that this Jackdaw still seems to be involved. Perhaps they could just get this Saul Gibson away from town, so he doesn't have time to contact his friend.
"What seems strange to me is that you haven't noticed that your people are being replaced by drow impostors!" Zaza points to one dead drow. "That one over there took on the identity of Moses Fallion, a bartender." She points to the other. "And that one pretended to be Swain Thompson, a shopkeeper. The real men are likely dead."
"There are more, besides. And if we thought Taldans would be able to handle them, we'd let them. But who knows how deep the corruption spreads?"
She walks over to the tired man, leaning in close, letting him smell the scent of spices and perfume. With the same wand she had been using on her friends, she gives Saul a quick tap.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
The exhaustion begins to lift from Saul. "If you want to join the fun, Gibson, you're going to have to improve your stamina." Leaving Saul still propped up against some crates, Zaza turns and moves to one of the fallen bodies and begins to investigate.
