Amari Al'Fahd |

Looking from one of his companions to the other, Amari waits a few second wether or not they are going to report before starting to sign fast - then stops and cooks his head.
You can practically hear him thinking whether or not the bird-messanger could understand his sign language.
In the end, he leans in closely to the bird, whispering to it.
"We shadowed Moses and Swain meeting in an abandoned storehouse. We are about to enter and take them out if they turn out as drow."

Shadows of Sand GM |

Hadha, go ahead and give me your DD check to jam the front door and DD to unlock the back door. I'm going to assume you beat 15 on both of those.
You move quickly and quietly into the warehouse, totally surprising the two targets inside! The two men seemed to have been discussing something by a crate on the ground.
Lowest stealth was a 22, I believe. Surprise round! You can move or take a standard action. You start out just outside the back door. Everyone go! Map updated.

Shadows of Sand GM |

Hadha successfully jams the front door and unlocks the back door.
Everyone, go ahead and take your surprise round actions as if you were each starting right at the back door.

Amari Al'Fahd |

Acrobatic: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Amari lungs forward and jumps upon a stack of crates close to the two men, the bow pointed threatingly at them.
From the elevated position, he tries to perceive the contents of the crate, hoping to find a confirmation of their theory about these two's true allegiance.
Can't just start shooting arrows into faultless merchants doing shadowy buisiness, can we?

Shadows of Sand GM |

I have some serious questions about how "faultless merchants doing shadowy business" could possibly be consistent. XD
You can barely make out bottles inside the crate. From their markings, it seems likely they contain something poisonous or otherwise nefarious.
Though I'm not sure how you would sign this while also keeping your hands on your bow...

Amari Al'Fahd |

Haha, well... your point. On the other hand: doing some semi-legal business is something else entirely compared to planing and orchestrating a war between huge nations... and being drow on top of that ;-)
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
***
The day already saw him breaking is how of silence.
He knew, that he just had to worsen it still.
He would have to do an hour-long pinishing-run through the desert at noon to cleanse himself from the broken vow.
At least.
***
Still aiming at the closest man, the monk growls threateningly.
Loud enough for the two to undeniably hear and understand, but far from actually shouting.
"Stay. Down."
There was no need to say more at this point...

Hadha Al-Yatim |

Hadha melts into the shadows to the side and practically runs up onto some boxes to get a good view of the area. His gut could not rule out an ambush here, so he strove to rule out that possibility.
stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Shadows of Sand GM |

Waiting on surprise round actions from Agaban, Zaza, and Lo'laan.

![]() |

Sorry was out of town again for the 4th...
Moving forwards himself and looking at the two merchants, Agaban draws his light mace and readies himself if combat is going to be joined.

Shadows of Sand GM |

Inits: Ag, Am, Ha, Lo, Za, en: 6d20 ⇒ (15, 2, 14, 17, 8, 15) = 71
The two men whirl around in surprise and look ready to take up defensive positions as they snarl in anger.
Only Lo won init! Go Lo!

Lo'Laan Jin |

Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 1 - 1 = 17
NL_Damage: 1d10 + 7 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 3 + 1 + 1 = 17
Lo'Laan lunges forward and strikes out at the nearest opponent.

Shadows of Sand GM |

Lo strikes at the surprise man but misses! The light-skinned man laughs at you. "Fools. You have no idea what you are doing. Why do you fight us? We are here to destroy Taldor." He waves his hand and a pit opens up inside the door through which you entered!
Zaza needs to make a DC 20 reflex save against create pit with a +2 bonus for being on the edge of the pit.
A sheath on his wrist springs a rod into his hand and he steps back. Meanwhile, the other man steps forward to retaliate against Lo'laan, Serenity, and Amari. He trips all of them with a flurry of rapid kicks!
Flurry: 3d20 ⇒ (12, 18, 16) = 46
Party, GO!

Hadha Al-Yatim |

Small, unheard bells tinkle across your mind as Hadha attempts to invade the mind of the caster.
Deja Vous. Will DC 16 to negate
He then moves forward, drops off the crates, and makes for the next group of crates.

Shadows of Sand GM |

Will: 1d20 ⇒ 18
The spellcaster shrugs off the intrusion.

![]() |

Leaning out to the side to get a clear line of sight on the caster. Agaban makes a brief gesture and casts Silence at the spellcaster.
Will DC 17 to negate.

Amari Al'Fahd |

Damn. I have to find a way to stand up reliably.
Anyway, I cannot think of an option other than to risk standing up, as I cannot shoot from prone. And trying to grapple from a prone position against a CM specialist is asking for a wasted round...
Growling, Amari tries to stand.
Since I suspect that the enemy will use his AoO to just drop me again, I'll wait for a resolution before trying anything...

Shadows of Sand GM |

Agaban, you don't have line of sight to the caster from your current position. When there's a box on top of a box, it's 10 ft high. If I recall correctly where Hadha was, he had LoS from his box, cast, then moved.
Ah that's a carefully negated possibility of these rules. The aoo for standing up happens before you stand up so he can't use it to trip you since you're already prone. No trip-locking!
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Dam: 1d6 - 3 ⇒ (2) - 3 = -1
Amari fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
As Amari goes to stand, the very thin man strikes him lightly but Amari finds himself unable to move!
Amari is hit for 1 damage but fails his fort against stunning fist and is stunned and prone. Zaza and Lo'laan still to go while Agaban may re-position or otherwise edit his turn.

Shadows of Sand GM |

Nope. He just has a tall avatar. I shrunk him down to make him look better.

Lo'Laan Jin |

Thanks.
Bite: 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 1 - 1 + 2 = 20 Damage: 1d6 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 1 + 2 = 11
Trip: 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 1 - 1 + 2 = 22
Serenity dives upon her prey as Lo'Laan struggles back to his feet after being swept to the floor.
Stand and Move.

Shadows of Sand GM |

Serenity is prone too, fyi. She misses with her bite.
AoOs: 2d20 ⇒ (13, 6) = 19
Dam: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9
Lo'laan is struck a light blow as he stands up (3 dam) but then missed as he moves.
Zaza still to go (needs to roll reflex save) and Agaban may edit (doesn't have LoS to caster).

![]() |

Guess if I don't have a line of sight for the caster and considering how well this guy is keeping the party pinned in position...might as well change the spell to hold person and cast at the closer of the two...if he stuns will change but if the spell fails will probably follow it up with the racial ability attempting to level the field by tripping the enemy.

Shadows of Sand GM |

Wis: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
The man grins at Agaban as he casts a spell at him. "Fools. We won't let you make it out of here alive." The smaller spellcasting man snaps a finger and an illusion washes over both of them, revealing dark skin and white hair. As suspected, both of these citizens' identities were replaced by Drow!
Zaza still to go.

Zatinya |
Reflex DC20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Zaza manages to avoid the pit, but still ends up stuck on the other side of it. Out pops a wand of summon monster, which she begins to use!
Casting Summon Monster II, I think it takes a full round to complete. Most likely it will be 1d3 eagles, but I'm open to suggestions.

Shadows of Sand GM |

The drow steps back while striking Amari and Serenity.
Attack rolls: 3d20 ⇒ (19, 16, 3) = 38
Dam: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
A or L: 1d2 ⇒ 2
He strikes Amari once (1 dam) and Serenity once (1 dam). Then the smaller drow in the back waves his left hand while pulling out a rod with his right. A globe of shining dust erupts in the warehouse, stealing any sort of vision from them. The shadows try to shake it off!
DC 23 will save for Lo and 21 for Amari, and Serenity for be blinded. Can repeat save against glitterdust at the end of every round. Party, GO!

![]() |

Moving around the edge of the melee. Agaban makes a quick motion before sending a rush of water at the feet of the closer enemy attempting to time it to bring him down to the ground with the rest of the group.
Using racial ability and attempting a trip combat maneuver.
CMB = 19

Amari Al'Fahd |

Will Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
As Amari comes to, he lies on hard ground, blinded by dust with his head ringing and his conciousness still slippery from before.
He briefly wonders, if this is the afterlife, before his hands find the grip of his trusty bow at his side and he remembers.
Carefully, he tries to stand, using the composite shaft of his bow for support, trying to rub his eyes off the dust.
Bad choice to rush in clustered like that.
We maybe should have come from both sides at once.
Also: playing the good guy to confirm the targets are indeed the enemy really proofed foolish.
Gara would not have approved.

Hadha Al-Yatim |

As the action unfolds, Hadha races up the stack of crates on the right and gets the spell caster in sight. He holds off though, waiting for the caster to start casting again...
readied attack, ranged touch, high ground: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 1 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 6 + (6) = 16

Shadows of Sand GM |

Hadha, I need you to tell me the name of that ability every time you use it so I can understand what is happening.
AoO: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Dam: 1d6 ⇒ 6
CL check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Agaban's rush of water does not trip the Drow monk. The Drow spellcaster seems to resist Hadha's attack somewhat but Hadha gets very lucky and overcomes that resistance.
Lo and Zaza still to go. Amari still has his standard action after getting missed on a nat 1.

Shadows of Sand GM |

No worries. I'm somewhat familiar with it by now but the cryptic class is not one I've seen much.

Zatinya |
Number of Eagles: 1d3 ⇒ 1
As Zaza completes her spell, an eagle appears! It flutters further into the room to engage the nearest drow!
Attack, Smite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16; Damage (assuming enemy is evil): 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
I added a blue square that represents this first eagle.
Zaza begins to use the wand once more to bring more help!

Amari Al'Fahd |

Following the sound of Hadha's attack, Amari sends an arrow flying by hearing and guesswork alone!
I think IC is going, right Zaza? If not, ignore the +1's.
Arrow away!: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 12 + 1 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 56

Shadows of Sand GM |

Amari lands an incredible shot, barely hitting the mage past the cover of the box and despite his blindness!
Amari, remember you can repeat the will save at the end of your turn. Lo still to go.

Lo'Laan Jin |

Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Serenity/Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Lo and Serenity stumble around blindly as the dust consumes their vision.
End of round.
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Serenity/Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Amari Al'Fahd |

Satisfied with his blind shot, Amari tries to rub his eyes free of sand again - in the same motion he uses to draw another arrow from his back.
Will-Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Shadows of Sand GM |

The drow prepare to attack again! The mage begins casting another spell. "Puny Qadirans! This will wrap you up for good!"

![]() |

I should have made Jackdaw do this. He is the fighter. But I, of course, am the lover. Follow the blonde dame, I thought. But should have known better. Dames are always trouble, and now they have stirred up a hornet's nest. And here I am, hiding against a crate like I'm twenty again. I'm not a young man. I'm old, tired, and full of no coffee.
The tall and lanky black man peers out from his hiding place in the shadows. The side boards of the warehouse came out easily enough, thanks to a crowbar, but Saul Gibson did not expect to find drow in here... Drow talking about destroying Taldor.
I'm no patriot, but I'm no slouch, either. If Taldor is threatened, life is threatened. And these Qadirans... strange bunch, stick out like a sore thumb, but maybe the enemy of my enemy is my friend. And they do have a blond dame. Aw dammit.
His mind made up, Saul darts out of cover, gets behind the mage who is making life miserable for the Qadirans, and slams him in the back of the head with his mace, as the mage starts casting a spell.

MW mace attack power attack and inspiration: 1d20 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (12) + 6 + (4) = 221d8 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 5 + (4, 3) = 14
If he is not flat-footed against me, then subtract 7 from damage

Shadows of Sand GM |

Was still Drow turn, Hadha. Was just waiing for a certain fellow who had snuck into the warehouse.
Conc: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Trios: 3d20 ⇒ (2, 19, 7) = 28
The brown-skinned Taldane man you had preciously seen skulking around town leaps out from behind a box and stabs the Drow just as he is about to cast another debilitating spell. Surprised and angry, the drow fails and cries in pain. The other drow, unsure what is happening, keeos fighting. He tries to renew his tripping efforts and only succeeds in knocking Hadha to the ground as he moves over to him.
Party GO! Inlcuding the Taldane!

![]() |

Unsure exactly what is going on but seeing the mage fall and hoping to save some spells for later. Agaban steps forward and attempts to thrust his spear at the monk/brawler hopefully outside of the range of the other combatant.
Attack, BAB, Str, IC: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 22
Damage, Str, IC: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 = 3

Hadha Al-Yatim |

Hadha hits the crates with a thud. He doesn't bother to get up and instead fires another sparkly-sounding spell at the drow.
Deja Vous again. DC 16 will save to negate. Repeat your previous action if possible. If impossible, no nothing.

Amari Al'Fahd |

Will-Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Heureka! Now you gonna pay, tripping bastard!
With a decisive swipe of his wide clothes, Amari wipes his eyes clean.
Being able to finally see again, he snaps around to aim at the close-combat specialist who was able to disrupt the shadows so throughly up to this point.
Within a few heart-beats, three arrows spring from the sinew at point blank range.
Flurry Attack #1: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 11 + 1 + 1 = 23 (willing to spend a couple of stamina point on this one to ensure a hit)

Yeah, I thought so. At least I am blinded no more, eh?

With the mage writhing in pain, the tall stranger continues the attack, trying to land his mace in the other's skull, but certainly failing.

Hadha CL: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
AoO Hadha: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Dam: 1d6 ⇒ 2
The drow caster seems to completely ignore Hadha's spell that is thrown against him. Meanwhile, the other drow strikes him a slight blow as he leaves an opening.
You've probably noticed by now this guy has pretty high SR. AoO for 1 damage.
Agaban steps forward and thrusts at the lanky drow but the monk dodges with grace.
Amari, the glitterdust re-save is at the end of every turn. You can keep that save though and are no longer blinded at the end of your turn here.
Amari blindly launches arrows at the wiry drow but none of them land home.
You have to choose how many combat stamina points to spend before knowing whether something is a hit or a miss. 23 misses.
The Taldane who has leapt into this situation attempts to strike another blow in your aid but misses!
Zaza and Lo still to go.
