First of all, I have to talk business.
Marcy, your fumble is non-confirmed, so you retain your weapon and its just a simple miss. You had the exact same mechanic in mind as I did and the dice seemed to favor you this time. You will have missed Enemy #3, however, since Arwin and Xandar laid waste to #4 before your turn in Initiative. I will wait until Raignik has posted before updating everything to Round Two.
Marcy, thanks for prettying up the map. I'm not good with stuff like that, so props on that. If it didn't take much, you're welcome to keep doing it? If it did, then don't worry about it.
That's actually all I have so I guess the "First!" comment was unwarranted. Questions?
You're still attacking from the mist, so 50% chance of a miss.
Low = Miss, High = Hit
Percentile Roll of 1d100 ⇒ 81
Barring Raignik's turn, the events of Round 1 will probably end up as follows:
Draig casts Obscuring Mist.
Xandar fires from N16 and hits Enemy #4.
Arwin attacks Enemy #4 from 012.
Enemy #4 goes down.
Stump charges Enemy #8 in Q12.
Marcy attacks Enemy #3 and misses.
Once Raignik goes, I'll update the map, summarize Round 1, and we'll proceed to the next round. Just to keep you guys in the loop.
Kibeth, honestly, probably so. I need to get some things together and actually get my Internet back up and running, but I don't have a problem with running two parallel adventures.
With that being said, who do I have that's in for the parallel adventure? I need at least 5 of you. Wait crew, speak up.
Ugh, will probably need to start actual OOC threads for both adventures now, so they don't clash. Hey! What are you guys doing in the confines of my mind!? Get out of here! GM Ronin only here!
Marcy "Lucky" Lull |
If it didn't take much, you're welcome to keep doing it?
It's a piece of cake, and I'd be happy to take care of it. One less thing for you to have to worry about.
Here is the updated map HERE
Would you prefer a new map with a new link each time? That would allow for going back in time if needed. Or, I can just save each iteration with the same name and replace it with the current version? That way there is just one link that always leads to the current map. Whatever you prefer, it's equally easy for me to manage.
And I'm really glad I didn't send my pick flying across the courtyard. Funny though that may have been, it wouldn't have made for much of a first impression.
Severed Ronin |
Alright everyone the new map is up and we're ready to start posting, so get to it!
As for the parallel adventure, I'll need at least four people before I start one up. I obviously have two with Kibeth's Ursathrope Barbarian and Chris' (Oracle?) so I need at least two more. I know there was a semi-decent waitlist for awhile so if any of you guys are still watching the thread then speak up. Next two to four automatically take priority. I'll give you three days for a response and if nothing else, we'll take on people who randomly stumble across the thread (or anyone you guys invite).
Mac K. |
By the way I wanted to point out that apparently I forgot to add in my weapon enchantment to my calculations so I have been missing out on +2 attack and damage. I just realized it and fixed it in my character combat section, if someone could review my sheet for me and make sure I didn't miss anything else XD
Marcy "Lucky" Lull |
I'm going to put the updated maps into a shared folder. Folks can just bookmark that folder and then look at the most recent one. It can be found HERE.

If you don't already have your other players, could I join? I've been looking for a cool PBP to get on board with for a while. Any particular class/race combo you'd like to have? If not I'll just crank something up right quick...

Been dying to use the Dragonrider class from SGG, would that be legit? I can get a build up tonight if you'd like to see it.
Alternately I have a half-elf dual-wielding fighter3/sorcerer1 I can bump up to meet the requisite level 7.
Aw heck with it I'll just put up both builds tonight and see what y'all say. :-)
Severed Ronin |
The Dragonrider is a core class put out by Super Genius Games for Pathfinder that, in summary, focuses on the bond between a boy and his dragon. No innuendo intended. Its combat-oriented with a touch of spellcasting thrown in.
As much as I like the class itself, if you want in, Amazed, you'll have to ix-nay that concept. Not to say its overpowered considering SGG did a good job of keeping it balanced. However, you would have no contact with your dragon whatsoever. Not setting wise, but at my behest. Not even Draig (an informant for a blue dragon) will have contact to his.
Like I said, I like the class but allowing it even without the dragon is just nuking the class substantially. It'd be like taking a bard's instrument or a wizard's spellbook.

No worries! Thanks for the reply. I'll level my fighter/sorcerer build up to the appropriate point (7th, yeah?) and upload for you. Comin' up shortly...

Awright, Thral is leveled, etc. Need to clean up his gear list as I haven't bought ammo and some basics yet, but I've got enough up for Severed Ronin to see if it'll work. Check the PDF of his full build here. Lemme know...
Posting as him in just a sec.
Thral |
The character looks good, so you're in since I haven't heard back from any of the others yet. Waiting on at least one more for the Parallel.
Awesome! Thanks! I'll get back to reading the sources you link in the first post. Anything else I can do to get ready, etc? Game prep type stuff?

I looked it over and noted three things.
1) It looks like you still have one more feat coming. (2 at first level, plus 1 at ever level thereafter). You've only chosen 7.2a) Your Acrobatics skill should be 3 (7 ranks, +1 DEX, -5 Armor), except for jumping which your boots give a +5 to. So 8 for jumping.
2b) Climb and swim are only 4. -5 Armor penalty again.
2c) Craft suffers a -2 penalty if you don't also purchase artisan tools. Not really a big deal.
2d) Fly, Ride, Stealth and Escape artist should be -4. That armor thing again.
3)This you may realize, but I figured I may as well point it out. You list damage for your greatsword as 2d6+13. That's correct for Overhand Chop (which doesn't allow a second attack in that round), and for the second attack only with Backswing. Your damage for the initial attack (if you are using Backswing) is 2d6+10.

1) I thought I should only have 7? I get feats a 1, 3 and 6 base feats plus 1, 2, 4, 6 fighter feats. Or am I missing a house rule were we all get an additional feat? Or is my math just horribly off?
2) The skills I actually didn't include the armor penalty because if I am not wearing my armor it wouldn't apply, figured I would add the -5 depending on the situation.
3) I actually did not notice this, had to re-read the ability. So basically the only difference being that on a full attack, the first attack only gets a +1.5x STR and all attacks after get a +2x STR correct?

Base feats are at all odd levels (1,3,5,7) and fighter feats as you said (1,2,4,6)

Makes sense :)

Yep, that's the way I read it.

Ah I thought you got feats every 3 levels so 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18.

Ah ok, I was wondering that considering it isn't actually listed in the book. Gives all the info about the feats but doesn't actually specify when you get new ones.

Alright, just waiting for Arwin, wherever he may be. I know this time of the year is hectic and a real trial for PBPs but we'll have to wait until Arwin posts.
Also, Havoc! Cyra! Good to see you two again. Of course you're both in especially after the downer of me having to ix-nay the Legacy of Fire game. I have been keeping up with it, however, and I must say that the new GM is doing a pretty good job with you lot.
As for the email you two sent, the Dhampir from Bestiary 2 is good to go. I'm still working on getting a PDF copy of it until I can get a hard copy but just shoot me an email if you would with the PC stats for the Dhampir (as outlined in the Bestiary 2) and let me know what its about.
Also, everyone, as much as we love this thread for OOCness, since I'm starting up another game soon, I'll be creating separate OOC threads for each game. Here's a list of what each thread will contain as its primary post:
1) Character Creation & House Rules (compiled this time)
2) Links to this thread, the Aris website, etc.
3) Links to the Game Threads
Anyone have any ideas on what else to include?

Alright, I have a few concepts, and I want to know which fits better in your world, to you. I can make a backstory for any, but I need to know before I go forth and dedicate time to it, as with college and X-mas my time's not as open as it could be. It'll be a good chance to play with some technology, though. So, without further ado...
1) A human summoner - ex-Imperium, his eidolon was 'crafted' by him, infused with magic and is used as a suit of mobile armor, ala MagiTek.
2)A human rogue - machinist, pirate, he salvages technology and creates new devices out of whatever he can find.
3)A divine knight ( unsure of class yet) who serves the Church of Caelum, but has a second, hidden agenda that may be darker than one can imagine.
All of these are doable, I hope - I'm feeling 3 pretty hard, though, the more I think of it.
EDIT: I need to know something for #3, or its playability goes down a notch - do you only ask for Bluff checks if they suspect I'm lying, or if I'm lying in general? Just curious.
Severed Ronin |
Damn it looks like the efficiency of our resident spell caster trumped my moment of inspiration. I was going to put a silenced bullet in the enemy wizard, killing his spellcasting on top of a heap of pain. Oh well.
Yeah... I rolled a critical fumble on the enemy caster's Concentration check. Figured it only fair that it does something besides just fizzle the spell away. Rolled a few more times and that's what happened.
1) A human summoner - ex-Imperium, his eidolon was 'crafted' by him, infused with magic and is used as a suit of mobile armor, ala MagiTek.
For this, I would suggest using the following archetype as there really is no other mechanic to fit the idea of 'Crafted Eidolon' like this.
This may need some editing, however, if you choose to use it. We'll go further in-depth should you decide on this concept.
2)A human rogue - machinist, pirate, he salvages technology and creates new devices out of whatever he can find.
Nothing out of place here. Lots of uses for the Craft skill here.
3)A divine knight ( unsure of class yet) who serves the Church of Caelum, but has a second, hidden agenda that may be darker than one can imagine. --- I need to know something for #3, or its playability goes down a notch - do you only ask for Bluff checks if they suspect I'm lying, or if I'm lying in general? Just curious.
The concept sounds good, but the Bluff checks would be based on what sort of lie you're trying to tell ultimately, so it'd be a bit of both. They wouldn't ultimately suspect you lying anyways unless you fail a Bluff check anyways. Make sense?
Rizzym Jaderenai |
Well, if I just walk up to you and say, "I'm a templar of this and such order, blah blah blah," based on the appearance I'm going to use I look the part, do you really think I'm going to lie out the gate? That's the heart of the question - but your answer does make sense.
I'm thinking I'll go with #3 - it feels like an ultimately more satisfying roleplay. An inquisitor fits the role, too, since it has the skills relevant to make the concept spark to life (Bluff, Disguise, etc...), and divine 'power'.
Backstory to come soon - also, I haven't seen your e-mail so I can contact and talk to you directly. Mind swappin'?
Also - HP rolls, just to get them out of the way.
1d8 + 1d8 + 1d8 + 1d8 + 1d8 + 1d8 ⇒ (2) + (1) + (4) + (7) + (7) + (8) = 29
Die 2 Reroll 1d8 ⇒ 7
Severed Ronin |
If its a sttory that your character has told and retold quite often, and that's naturally part of your character's "concept", I'm not going to make you roll the check every time to continue the ruse, so don't worry about that. But yeah, here's my email:
xanatos_grey@yahoo.com
I know its posted back there somewhere but no reason to make you search, right?
Also, if you guys want, as I did with the original crew, just let me know if you want me to give it a shot at rolling your HP. If you prefer mine over yours, its yours.
You and Marcy tic off the Dice Roller Algorithm recently?
Luc Arkenstol |
Thanks, Ronin. It's a key part of his concept, to be 'a closed book' so to speak. Judged by its cover and all that.
This is his first write-up. I need to tidy up a few things, and he's set to go.
EDIT: Also, I would greatly appreciate your rolls - I will probably just take your set, in light of the amount of wiggle room you were able to give me. He's a very social character, but can hold his own in single combat easily. I tend to picture him similar to a Holy Knight from something akin to FFTactics (a lot of my inspiration is founded from that game).
