It is locked.

(while in theory I could have told you that before, if there was a trap, I don't particularly like to spring them on people until they explicitly say they open the thing in question)

On his fourth attempt, he finally gets the tumblers aligned and opens it.

The platinum coffer is locked and is itself worth 1,200 gp. Within it are 20 pp, a black onyx worth 200 gp, a small bag of diamond dust worth 500 gp, a small bottle of mundane glue, and a brass perfume vial (worth 5 gp) that holds a strange-smelling, slightly unpleasant aroma. The boots are of fine quality drow manufacture, and while not magical, they provide a +2 circumstance bonus on Move Silently checks. The boots are worth 400 gp.

"I CALL DIBS ON DEM BOOTS!" yells Kronug from behind. That said he waits for any formal complaints or counteroffers and meanwhile tries to check if he could carry the chest or it's too heavy.

The problem is, they appear to be women's boots. At best they might fit Sileth or if you can find a skilled cobbler have them modified to size.

Jean follows it, quietly.
Stealth Check (+1 guidance): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 1 = 15

As you attempt to sneak down the corridor towards the final encounter of the book, your feeble attempts at stealth are foiled by the loud dramatic music which starts playing.

This cavern appears to have been recently enlarged at the east end, where a massive, curving stone carving protrudes from the floor, wall, and ceiling. It is covered in runes that appear strangely familiar, and it appears that some of them have been chipped
away. A table nearby holds several stone working tools and a thin book.

Also standing in the room, tapping her feet as if waiting for someone is a female elf with elven woman with dark purple skin and silvery white hair. She wears a shiny shirt of fine chain links, and carriers a rapier in her hand.

"What took you fellows so long? I've been practicing my evil laugh for weeks now, and Trogs really don't appreciate the effort. Muahahahaha! See! A truly fine evil laugh!"

Male Human (Taldan) Gestalt Cleric of Besmara / Rogue 8 | HP 27/67 | AC 24 (+2 vs Traps) T 17 FF 20 CMD 21 | F +12 R +14 (+2 vs Traps) W +13 | Init +4 | Perc +14 (+4 Traps) | Status: Bless (8r)

Jean draws his weapons, and smiles at the woman. Only one, right?
"Magnificent, if I can say it? I am Jean David Nau, one of the Besmara's Blessed. Might I ask your name, so I know who makes such an evil laugh?"
Diplomacy Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 (+1 if potentially attracted to him)

One opponent. Don't bother with diplomacy, this is going to be a fight.

Kronug cracks at the half-assed attempt at diplomacy, having been holding himself during the petty laugh. Drawing his sword, the kellid ask "We are new to this adventuring bussiness, we were thugs until recently. I have a question, will you speak of your nefarious -whatever that means- before or after we kill you? That's it, if Crom doesn't allow you to become a recurring villain."

Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

"I'm pretty sure I won't be speaking of my nefarious plans after you kill me. I do like the recurring idea personally. "

Not that I should have to say this, but you better pull out all the stops as this is the final fight, and she is no pushover.

I know this will be a fight, but why can't we be civil about it? I have always liked, in books and movies, how the enemies talk a while, and even share a cup of tea, before the face-off.
"So... your name? "Unknown" lacks gravitas in a tombstone."

"My name is Depora. We should probably get onto that fighting business before your pet barbarian gets bored and wonders off though. "
