If you can't have it available by tomorrow, then I'll need them at least before we get into our first combat encounter, which is likely to be sometime within the first several days.

On your profile so far, the things missing that I'll need to see are:

  • What connection you've selected
  • What spells you've selected
  • What languages you've selected
  • Which profession skill you've selected
  • What gear you've purchased

Kalteisen, thanks for the additional info! The only thing I have to point out is that the skills listed in your stat line differ from your character sheet. I believe your stat line is correct and your character sheet is a bit off since your character will have 8 skill ranks whereas your sheet lists 9. Also, your character sheet lists sleight of hand and stealth as class skills which is probably a copy and paste error from somewhere. Overall though, things look great!

As mentioned, I put together your character sheet in board text format. Take a look at slide number three. You can copy and paste that text into your profile's "About" field and everything should come out nicely. Because I don't know what profession skill you selected, I just listed mercenary but you can change that to whatever it actually is. Using this sheet I put together is optional of course... you don't have to use this but I figured it may help you out!

So starship roles, like I said captain is best for me, but I can make an ok science officer, looking at sheets it seems like kalteisen will only be gunning twik has captain ok pilot or gunner, Lucus is gunner, hirax has ok engineering or good but not great pilot or gunner, and twitch has engineering great and piloting good

Possible layout is leif captain +13 expertise in diplomacy and +8 in others, kalteisen gunner +1, twitch engineering +9, hirax pilot +8, lucus gunner +3 twik gunner +x or switch me and twik for better bluff worse diplo

I wish that I had known Naboh was going to leave. I would definitely have played my Mechanic in this scenario then.

alternatively we can ignore the Science Officer role, put Lief back into the Captain role and Twik as a Gunner. Which is what Leif suggested so it seems like we are mostly on the same page.

My thought was SO is only really needed for scanning and that is at a range so I would start as SO, then when we get into effective range switch to captain, however I’m fine with the layout you have there

GM.....how do you want to handle the demand action in PbP? The rules say I need to roll / declare it before the roll I’m affecting is rolled but seeing as I probably live on the other side of t he world to most of you there is a good chance that many of the rolls will be made before I get a chance (much like right now.)

If we want to be strict about it, I could ask people to put their rolls in spoilers. That way, you wouldn't be able to 'game' the system. But in practice, I find that people usually forget to do so - which is understandable and I would too!

So I'm going to say go ahead and take your action and roll it even if it is after the action you want to affect. I'll just trust my players when they say that is the action they wanted to affect even before they saw the roll.

Not a perfect solution but given the limitations of PbP, I'm fine with it. I figure there are a variety of areas where we have to cut corners a bit in order to make PBP work and it's OK, so long as we're still having a good time.

If I see this being overly abused, then I'll look into a different method of handling this in the future.

To clarify, Kali is backup Gunner and Lucus is taking the turret? I'm assuming I will fire the forward coilgun if I get a shot?

From my perspective, with respect to the rules, as a gunner, you can fire whichever gun you wish on your turn. However, whether you pre-arrange to fire certain guns only is up to you and your teammates.

And just FYI in case it helps with the decision, Lucas' gunnery roll appears to be a +3 whereas Kali is +2

I would suggest using those bonuses on gunnery checks. Those are by far the most challenging.

Multiple computer modifiers cannot be stacked onto the same check. So if Lucas fires one weapon, then he can use only a single +1.

If Lucas attempts to fire two weapons, then he can use two +1 modifiers - one for each attack. This would be the 'Fire at Will' action which also poses a -4 penalty to each attack.

In addition, if Lucas fires two weapons, Kali will be left with no weapon to fire.

I'd suggesting assigning the third +1 to someone else on the team.

Question about starship movement:

The Honorbound's movement this round started with:
- Started by facing map east
- Immediately turned and went NE

I assume based on the other movement this round, the Honorbound succeeded on their maneuver check, which reduced their distance before turning to 1. But I don't see how it managed to reduce it to 0 to get that first turn in.

The only thing I can think of is that straight distance from previous rounds counts towards your minimum straight distance before a turn. Is that right?

Yup, that's what I was thinking. But after taking another look at the rules, that may actually not be allowed ('Turns' in the CRB pg. 319).

I've redrawn the ship's path. It's now on the port/rear side of the Drake. The Drake can fire both the aft and turret weapon at it while the Honorbound can target the Drake's port side.

Agreed. For PBP, I'm inclined to call it after the NPC starship has suffered two critical thresholds more than the PC starship.

The only thing that came to my mind while we we've been fighting it was that the HP for both ships could probably safely be halved. But since this is my first proper ship combat, I have no idea what other problems that might cause. More importantly, I'm not sure if you could make a change like that in Society play.

Though I do have to say, you've been doing an amazing job of keeping us chugging through the rounds bigboom. I'll be stealing your format when I run one of these. :>

Yah, in Society play, we're not allowed to alter the stats and mechanics in that way.

And strictly by the rules, I've ended the combat earlier than it should have with my 'two net critical thresholds' rule but for a PbP format, as you rightly pointed out, it was going to start getting very painful. And (for most of us anyways) pain isn't all that much fun....

I think I read somewhere that the Drake is going to be modified to be less reliant on the 5 shot missile launcher in the future. Which would be good because I was struggling to see how we were going to stay ahead of the game without it.
