Gi'chack: good to know. Is it something you think another of us might get use from? I guess it's something Nexander should puzzle over in game...
All: in my proposed division above I tried to base it first on what folks have expressed interest in. The only item two of us have expressed interest in is the Headband of Wisdom (which was one of three items Ardeshir wanted). Ardeshir, if you want to roleplay deciding where that one should go (or discuss it OOC) let me know. I assigned it to the one WIS based caster...but of course I'm biased because that's my character. ;0)
I just noticed that I suggested a hand crossbow for Sasbrek, which is an exotic weapon (and one I suspect none of us have proficiency in) so that should probably just go back into the to-be-liquidated pile unless someone fancies taking the proficiency.
Otherwise, any comments/suggestions/feedback/flames on my suggestions? Just trying to compile and move along, but I want to make sure I'm not stepping on any toes.
Thanks,

Oh! I forgot initially to level Yakini up too. She gets:
Dex 15 -> 16
Str 20 -> 21
+2 Natural armor
+1 dex bonus to AC
Flank trick

In case I'm not the only one to have forgotten, the current date is the 27th Gozran, so the priests are quite a ways ahead of us. Which makes me wonder what has delayed them so much that Julistar was still around. He was tasked with delaying our group further until they fell afoul of the gnolls?

Gyrfalcon, the Headband of wisdom makes a lot more sense for your character than mine. That being said, RP wise my character would be interested. We can RP it out or not, but I think ultimately it should end up in your characters hands. He might also give the hat of disguise to the Kobold or the Goblin since, well, I think its obvious why.
I think I will be bold and take the planned level in Paladin (Divine Hunter) of Sarenae.
HP+8 (+9 Favored class)
Precise Shot
Weapon Focus (Composite Longbow)
+1 BAB
+2 Fort, +2 Will
Aura of Good
Detect Evil
Smite Evil 1/day
1 Rank Diplomacy (+7), 1 Rank Knowledge Religion (+4)

Regarding loot division: The only thing I have taken for my character thus far is the cloak of resistance +1 since it seems that no one else has expressed any interest in it.
If no one else wants any, I would also take the collection of arrows. I could always use more arrows. I assume we can divide gold, gems, and the like at a future time.
I am also fine with the proposed loot division / payback plan.

Moving the logistical conversation to the Discussion thread.
Nexander, we do have a wand...and I'm also not sure we have a ton of use for it now, because Unafe can cast Communal Endure Elements on 6 people for 4 hours. Thorgrim and our resident ifrit and dragon don't need it, so that leaves Aluriel, Gi'Chak, Nexander, the Steady Hand, Unafe, and Yakini, all of whom she can protect with one 2nd level spell. That gets us through the hot part of the day, but doesn’t solve the forced march, or the folks with 20’ moves.
If Gi’chak rides a mule (or Leafroot), that leaves Unafe, Aluriel, and Ibir to either convince to travel unarmored or to get on a mount. Ironically, Nexander, Thorgrim, and Ardeshir all can move at 30’ even when unmounted. (I’ll leave it to the group to figure out if those characters would -- gladly or grudgingly -- offer up their mounts to the more heavily armored members of the party. That solves the 20’ limitation, and gets us an extra eight miles / day.
As a way to minimize the exhaustion of a forced march...let’s see. We can certainly hope most of us succeed at our saves, and start using CLW to abate the non-lethal damage and any fatigue. We could decide to continue until two of us are fatigued and we’re out of CLW spells. If Unafe, Aluriel, Nexander, Rhasdal, and Pinkerton devote all of their first level spells to CLW, I suspect we can add 1-2 hours. Since it seems like we’ll all be unmounted for these final hours, we’ll only be moving 20’, but that’ll still net us another 2-4 miles per day.
Given that the obelisk is 80 miles away (and at our current rate of 16 miles / day gets us there in 5 full days), just getting the armored and short legged folks mounted gets us to 24 m/d (or 3 ⅓ days to the obelisk). Doing a single extra hour each evening gets us to 26 m/d, which gets us to the obelisk in exactly 3 days, shaving two days off our current speed. (To be safe, we should probably try to get a second hour in on the first day and second, in case we hit delays, using CLW to reduce the chance of exhausting anyone.)
...Now, in character, Unafe wouldn’t be the one to propose that she gets to ride someone else’s horse or camel…but Thorgrim has already offered and I wouldn’t be surprised if Nexander and Ardeshir follow suit (possibly with a bit of ribbing) given the need to make up time.
gyrfalcon |
Ardeshir, seems reasonable.
Nexander, Unafe will laugh warmly at any innuendo and happily accept the offer of a ride.
In terms of solving the puzzle, I say: Unafe rides Xander’s horse. Aluriel rides Thorgrim’s. Ibir is kind of Pinkerton’s employee and his problem. Pinkerton can order him to wear the mwk chain shirt from the loot pile instead of his regular armor for the next 3 days (letting him walk 30’), OR can arrange for Ibir to ride one of his mounts (perhaps Rhasdal’s, assuming she’s unarmored). OR of course Pinkerton can decide to not make extra time...but he seems pretty motivated.

Giant Geckos have a speed of 40 ft, so travelling at that speed, Ardeshir and Sasbrek can cover 8 more miles in a day than the group moving 30 ft. If Sasbrek rides with Ardeshir on his camel, they could instead cover 16 more miles.
Every 10 ft of movement speed = 1 mile per hour.
However, I need to do the math and see if your mounts are encumbered or not - Sasbrek's Giant Gecko can carry 75 pounds before being encumbered, while the camel can carry 300 pounds.
Sasbrek probably weighs no more than 30 pounds, and since he's unencumbered, he can only be carrying no more than 15 pounds (I'm assuming the rest of his stuff is on the other gecko)- so the gecko should be alright.
Ardeshir will take a little more time to calculate, so I'll get to that shortly.
DM Crustypeanut |
Woops, apparently I forgot to finish checking Ardeshir's mount to see if its encumbered! (My bad)
Anyways, I want to explain some of the delays we keep having in this campaign, to make sure you guys don't get justifiably worried that I'm abandoning or losing interest in the campaign. ('Cause I'm not :P)
Being as meticulous to detail and OCD as I tend to be, I like to have stuff ready before I move along - being spontaneous is not something I do well. Things go horribly wrong when I do. (By horribly wrong, I mean V-for-Vendetta-esque terrorist paladins aided by freedom fighter Kobolds in a pirate city named Port S!~~creek, where you never want to be without a paddle.) I will admit, things get wacky (Sometimes even in a fun way) when I get spontaneous, but I'm trying to keep this campaign relatively serious.
So.. thus are the delays. Admittedly, another part of the reason is that I get easily distracted, so theres that, too :P
And while I have the major plotlines down for this campaign, specific details, including maps (Oh god the maps are the worst part), stat blocks (Which are fun for me), and other specifics, are what causes the delays - this is, also, my first 'real' homebrew campaign (We won't call the other campaign a real campaign. It was more like a crash-run on "Wtf am I doing?") that I've made, and I went straight for Hard mode with making a Mythic campaign no less. :P
Anyways, just wanted to explain the delays! While the explaination was in part aimed at Nexander (No hard feelings of course!), its also to give a valid and handy excuse for my constant delays. Heh. ;P
Still, I hope you guys are liking the campaign overall! I don't plan on abandoning the camapign or letting it die out (Like the failed run at Skull and Shackles I tried here on the forums), at least not in the foreseeable future. This campaign.. lets just say that I'm quite fond of the overall plotline that I've come up with (With input from Rob on some of it).
:P

Alright, calculating Ardeshir's camel, he *should* be unencumbered, depending on how much food and how many arrows Ardeshir keeps on that camel instead of on the pack-camel.
As a result, the two of you can move at 40-ft move speed, moving at 8 miles per hour as a result, which is twice as fast as the main group.
At such a speed, if you guys left at the same time as the main group tomorrow morning, you will reach the Obelisk in 2.5 days of travel (20 hours), then you can scout it out and return to the group before they arrive.
Unafe Two-Hearted |
Thanks for the update. I'm quite excited to see where this campaign goes.
For Unafe, I don't think there's anything else to say. She's ready to go, and to go fast.
She won't make the suggestion I made ooc... But I suspect that given Pinkerton's strong motivation, he'll find a way to not have Ibir slow him down.
Thorgrim Sigurdson |
January's just been too hectic on me so far, it's been everything I can do lately to keep up myself. But it is now February! Things should slow down enough for me once more (mainly referring to my capacity to update from work, which helps out a ton to alleviate mad scrambles throughout the week across many games).
Also, just want to reiterate that your Skull & Shackles game was fun, too. The spreadsheet/social-skill-challenge aspect of it just didn't translate over well to PbP at all (imo). I'm enjoying both this and Shattered Star immensely (even if Valko's going to totally get knifed to death by his party in a back alley a week from now). Looking forward to when we start skimming the planes in all our mythic badassery.
DM Crustypeanut |
Alrighty guys, I'm mostly ready to move us along (Except a map, which I'm still working on), so lets finish up in the gameplay thread about logistics, and I'll have us ready to move on as soon as we're done there. Basically, I'm looking for a "I'm ready to go" from everyone, and for everyone to decide what they're doing with the speed-issues.
Unless something can be figured out with Ibir and Aluriel (In character), the group will continue moving at 20ft speed - though, as Unafe said, you guys can try for 1-2 hours extra each day.
So far I have a "I'm ready" from Sasbrek, though I'm fairly certain Nexander and The Hand are also ready, looking at their posts.
Also another small note: Does anyone have any preferred travelling locations within the caravan? I'm going to be getting that figured out before our next encounter, and if anyone has any preferences, let me know, otherwise I'll place people as I think makes sense.
Unafe Two-Hearted |
Unafe has said her piece. She's ready to go.
She and Yakini will stay near one another. Happy to be guarding the front or the rear. She probably leans toward the front in general, but assuming she's riding with Nexander than the rear likely makes more sense.
Unafe Two-Hearted |
Just looked at the map on Roll20. Looks good to me.
DM Crustypeanut |
Alright guys, I know my "Expect an update tomorrow" notices are notoriously inaccurate, but nevertheless, expect one sometime tomorrow! I'd like to get us moved along today, but alas, I'm busy today.
Also, for Sasbrek and Ardeshir, I will be making a secondary "Away Team" thread for their scouting efforts, so they won't be bored. I'll have that up after I get the main thread updated.
Thorgrim Sigurdson |
Computer woes continue. Finally nailed down what is causing the problem, though: liquid cooling system has apparently given out. My CPU is not well pleased (nor am I).
Ordered a replacement, which I'm hoping will be here and subsequently installed by Tuesday. In the mean time, my presence will be less than stellar. Basically, it will only be when I can sneak in updates while at work for the next couple of days.
Unafe Two-Hearted |
BTW, between a sick daughter and being slammed at work, I'm too tired to write a real post. I hope to write something tomorrow or Saturday.
