It should not really be possible for a sword to sigh.

"All right," it says. "If you want any damage to stick, someone needs to throw fire or acid at her along with anything else you do, or it'll heal right up. Just like the troll there. Keep that as the take-home, here."

Lio Combats:

Pre Round One, roll for Summoning Nature's Ally V, a Large fire elemental: caster lvl check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 need a 9 to cast...

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 i suck

Round One Action, Try the summoning thing again... unless not succeeding wastes the scroll...
caster lvl check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 Hurray! The first priority would be that I'd like to place the Elemental as close to the last known location of Thorborg as possible. If I need to have line of sight, then as a secondary target, I'd like to place the elemental by the Troll.

Do I need to make a concentration check for the round 1 casting?
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 i'm just going to go home now and let the big kids fight, because apparently it's not my day.

edited caster lvl, should be 6, not 5.

A small sound, part pleasure, possibly part distress, as you move closer, and she wants so very much to run her hands over your body, to feel all of you. To taste you. To once again fall into your arms. It is all she can do to stand there, still, heart pounding loudly as your lips brush against her ear, causing little spasms of unexpected pleasure to run through her. She closes her eyes, unwilling to let go of your hands or to move away, and unable to move closer.

COMBAT ROUND ONE, part 1

Kalimac bellows at the troll, "דעם איז אַ שלעכט טאָג פֿאַר איר, טראָול, פֿאַר איר פּנים דעם צארן פון קאַלימאַק פּראָודפאָאָט!" With his challenge given, he charges the troll with his fate-given lance, ending his charge well past the troll's reach.

Terran:
"This is a bad day for you, troll, for you face the wrath of Kalimac Proudfoot!"

Since the troll is challenged, all allies get a +2 attack bonus against the troll when Kalimac is threatening the troll.

Kalimac rockets past the troll, his lance piercing the creature through, a massive wound left behind, although it still manages to remain on its feet.

Critical hit on a lance charge, with Challenge. Kalimac does 53 hit points damage in one shot.

Skygni knocks down a lacquered panel and then breathes a blast of frigid air over the troll.

Troll’s Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

The troll falls over.

Only Melinda sees the invisible purple ogre rise into the air from behind the screen. All of you see her appear at the apex of the room’s ceiling, however, as she blasts the entire room with a jet of ice and frost.

Alaric’s Reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Xanderghul’s Reflex save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Melinda’s Reflex save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Liothonae’s Reflex save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Kalimac’s Reflex save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Attatoq’s Reflex save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Myriana’s Reflex save: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17
Rhost’s Reflex save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Hrunndalf’s Reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Troll’s Reflex save: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (11) - 3 = 8
Skygni’s Reflex save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Helgarval’s Reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Alaric, Attatoq, and Myriana take 29 hit points of damage. Liothonae, Kalimac, Rhost, and Hrunndalf take 14 hit points of damage. Xanderghul and Melinda take no damage.

Part 2

The troll heals a bit of damage, but does not yet rise.

Myriana fires two arrows at the flying ogre, both of them hitting solidly home.

Alaric concentrates on the ogre and says, "I don't believe it." But the ogre’s spells remain real, and she laughs from her perch in the air.

Melinda casts a spell upon Rhost.

Rhost walks up into the air, wanting to get a look at the hall from above, and see whatever is on the raised platforms.

Hrunndalf finds himself without a conscious foe he can reach, and readies his greatspear for attack in case one comes in range.

Hrunndalf:
So as to give your character a chance of not wasting the attack action, I am using Fog of War to have him hold it in ready, activating if a conscious foe comes within reach.

Liothonae frowns at the scroll she is holding with its highly advanced, unfamiliar spell. Grimly, she starts the druidic chant again from the beginning.

Up in the air, Kimandatsu brandishes an enormous, iron-shod club. ”That was to soften you up,” she says. ”Now I will knock you down. And a correction to your story, you rusting hunk of metal. The Amatatsu have evaded the Five Storms ... until today. Now, their secrets are in the hands of Kimandatsu, and as soon as she wrenches the location of any wayward family members and the Amatatsu Seal out of her prisoners, their line will end.”

GM Notes:

Troll regen 5
Kimandatsu -20

Alaric, Attatoq, and Myriana take 29 hit points of damage. Liothonae, Kalimac, Rhost, and Hrunndalf take 14 hit points of damage.

GM note -- Due to the Fog of War rules, especially since this situation has not come up before, I feel obligated to warn you; a large flying creature with a melee weapon threatens a lot of squares. If she comes down, next round or later, casters may need to cast defensively or provoke an AoO; people firing ranged weapons may provoke an AoO; moving away so you are out of her range may provoke an AoO. Everyone should in general inform me whether they are willing to provoke an AoO with their actions, or if they would prefer to drop their action and go defensive if continuing with their planned action would provoke an AoO.

Immediately upon completion of the spell, and once per round thereafter, you may call down a 5-foot-wide, 30-foot-long, vertical bolt of lightning that deals 3d6 points of electricity damage. The bolt of lightning flashes down in a vertical stroke at whatever target point you choose within the spell's range (measured from your position at the time). Any creature in the target square or in the path of the bolt is affected.

You need not call a bolt of lightning immediately; other actions, even spellcasting, can be performed first. Each round after the first you may use a standard action (concentrating on the spell) to call a bolt. You may call a total number of bolts equal to your caster level (maximum 10 bolts).

You breathe the word later into her ear. Lio tilts her head up, turns her face towards yours, so her ears are safe from further seductive whispers, from the wonderful sensations you provoke within her. Her lips now a fraction of an inch from yours. Her eyes large, vulnerable, filled with desire, love, a tinge of fear. Your teasing tone lost on her.

Round 2:

Time for some Tactical considerations.

Kalimac mutters some soothing words to his wounded wolf, then guides him to a place in the midst of the group. I'm aiming for the gap between Lio, Hrunndalf and Myri. This should be able to be reached in one 80 foot move action, even with navigating around the screens. I want to catch as many people as I can with the Tactician action (as well as being in range of a Channel from Alaric if it's coming). I mixed Taldane and Terran, he advises his team, "My friends, we are numerous while she is one. Attack from all sides to expose her weaknesses! הרוננדאַלף, פּרובירן צו באַקומען אין פלאַנגקינג פּאָסטן! איך'ווע אַדווייזד די אנדערע צו טאָן די זעלבע!

Terran: "Hrunndalf, try to get into flanking position! I've advised the others to do the same!"

Using Tactician as a Standard Action to grant the Precise Strike feat to all allies within 30 feet who can see and hear me. Allies retain the use of this bonus feat for 6 rounds.

COMBAT ROUND TWO, part one

"Well, that was useless," Alaric remarks.

Kalimac mutters some soothing words to his wounded wolf, then guides him to a place in the midst of the group. In mixed Taldane and Terran, he advises his team, "My friends, we are numerous while she is one. Attack from all sides to expose her weaknesses! הרוננדאַלף, פּרובירן צו באַקומען אין פלאַנגקינג פּאָסטן! איך'ווע אַדווייזד די אנדערע צו טאָן די זעלבע!”

Terran:
"Hrunndalf, try to get into flanking position! I've advised the others to do the same!"

Kalimac has used his Tactician ability to grant Precise Strike feat to all allies within 30 feet who can see and hear him. This adds +1d6 precision damage when you are flanking.

Kimandatsu apparently dislikes being shot with arrows. She yanks one of them out of her body and tosses it to the ground. The wound partially closes as you watch. Then she charges down and swings her iron-clad tetsubo greatclub at Myriana.

At the tail end of her charge, Hrunndalf uses his readied action to swing Þrumublað into her, dealing a mighty wound.

But she is now hovering 10 feet in the air above Myriana, and her club smashes into the archer’s head.

Myriana takes 16 hit points of damage. She is at -8 hit points, unconscious, and dying.

Skygni knocks down another panel and maneuvers into position to breathe frost upon Kimandatsu.

The troll heals a bit more damage, but still does not rise.

Myriana’s roll to stabilize: 1d20 - 8 ⇒ (13) - 8 = 5

Myriana is at -9 hit points, and dying. She may delay her next action until the end of next turn, but if at that time no one has healed her by at least 1 hit point, she must succeed at a stabilization check with a -9 penalty or die. (It may be pertinent here to give a reminder that wands used to cast touch-range spells do not provoke AoO’s and therefore do not require a defensive casting roll to succeed.)

Alaric concentrates.

Roll to cast defensively: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31

The frostbitten parts of his flesh begin to return to normal coloration. Then he steps in next to Myri.

Alaric regains 17 hit points.

Part 2

Mel moves slightly and burns the troll with fire, trying to follow the sword's advice in the fire will keep their foes down. The troll perishes.

Rhost has no banter for Kimandatsu, except for "Leek" as his Earth Breaker bursts into flames. Rhost goes into Rage, and charges across the open air to attack Kimandatsu. As he passes through the range of her tetsubo, she takes the opportunity to strike at him ... and hits him. Critically so.

Rhost takes 84 hit points damage. He is at -18 hit points. He is not unconscious, but he is staggered. And that is what a x4 crit from your foe looks like.

Only the force of his Rage is keeping him alive. Nonetheless, Rhost completes his charge and swings his own weapon at the foe ... and misses. The action tears open his wound a bit further.

Rhost is at -19 hit points. Still alive, still staggered.

Hrunndalf brings the greatspear around to bear on Kimandatsu, trailing a crackling streamer of lightning, then puts all his body mass into a solid thrust, dealing another titanic blow to the ogress. Purplish blood flies and splashes the floor as he jabs her in the hip.

Extra damage from Precise Strike: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Liothonae finally finishes the casting of her spell from the scroll. A being made entirely of fire, the size of Kimandatsu herself, appears next to the ogre mage and ... well, basically begins waling the tar out of her, beating her twice with fiery fists, bludgeoning and burning her and landing a critical blow of its own. Kimandatsu catches on fire.

Liothonae attempts to begin casting another spell, but the necessity of defending herself from Kimandatsu’s swinging club renders her unable to do so.

GM Notes:

Kimandatsu -69

Alaric -12
Attatoq -29
Liothonae, Kalimac, and Hrunndalf -14 hit points of damage.
Rhost -99
Myriana -45
Melinda -2

Liothonae:

You breathe the word later into her ear. Lio tilts her head up, turns her face towards yours, so her ears are safe from further seductive whispers, from the wonderful sensations you provoke within her. Her lips now a fraction of an inch from yours. Her eyes large, vulnerable, filled with desire, love, a tinge of fear. Your teasing tone lost on her.

Her breath catches as your eyes meet hers, and she sees your expression.

You suddenly get the distinct impression that, if you asked it of her right now, she actually would strip in the street.

She swallows. "We ... we should probably ... the others will be wondering where we are."

"Youre... probab.. bly right." She manages, between exhaling, between trying to slow her heart down, and keeping herself from rising onto her toes, to make up the distance between you, to keep herself from kissing you, which is something she wants to do very much right now. If your lips meet hers, she cannot guarantee that she'll be able to stop. The expression does not change, except perhaps to become even more vulnerable. She can't find it within herself to move away from you. Her hold on your hands becomes a little tighter.

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

Seeing his allies fall, Hrunndalf throws his ire at Kimandatsu in the tongue that feels custom-made for just that purpose. "شما برای همه این پرداخت، کرم. نه تنها با مرگ خود، اما با سی سال تلاش تلف شده، و خون عاشق خود را در دست هیولا خود را است." He doubts his dwarven steel will keep him safe, but he feels he has better chances at surviving the oni's punishment than many of his friends.

Infernal:
You will pay for all of this, worm. Not only with your death, but with thirty years of wasted effort, and the blood of your lover on your monstrous hands.

Round 3:
The following assumes that Alaric will have channeled or otherwise saved Myri's life. If not, Hrunndalf will delay after Lio to ensure that she will do so. If, for whatever reason, she is unable to do so and Myri is still dying, Hrunndalf crosses the room to end up behind Myri (should draw an AoO, but end up outside of K's reach) and casts Cure Serious Wounds on her. If K should have moved so as to threaten all the area around Myri, Hrunndalf will try to pick up Lio's wand on the way to Myri (not sure that works) and use it on her.

Hrunndalf takes a step back so as better to flank the hovering monstrosity, and drives Þrumublað through her rump with savage violence. Muffled thunder booms from within the masses of purple flesh.

Þrumublað, two-handed, Power Attack, Bull's Strength:
To hit: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 (crit 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20) (+2 if flanking)
Damage: 2d4 + 16 ⇒ (3, 3) + 16 = 22 (crit 6d4 + 48 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 3, 1, 4) + 48 = 66)
. . . plus 1d6 ⇒ 5 electric,
. . . plus 1d6 ⇒ 1 precision damage.

Possible AoOs:

Þrumublað, two-handed, Power Attack, Bull's Strength:
To hit: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 (crit 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21) (+2 if flanking)
Damage: 2d4 + 16 ⇒ (1, 2) + 16 = 19 (crit 6d4 + 48 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 4, 4, 1) + 48 = 67)
. . . plus 1d6 ⇒ 2 electric,
. . . plus 1d6 ⇒ 1 precision damage.

Þrumublað, two-handed, Power Attack, Bull's Strength:
To hit: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 (crit 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28) (+2 if flanking)
Damage: 2d4 + 16 ⇒ (1, 4) + 16 = 21 (crit 6d4 + 48 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 3, 1, 1) + 48 = 63)
. . . plus 1d6 ⇒ 6 electric,
. . . plus 1d6 ⇒ 4 precision damage.

Male Human Cleric 10

Round 3:
Alaric grabs his broken link and channels. 3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 1) = 9

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Mel Round 3:
Take a 5-ft step back to be outside of K's threatened range.

Use wand of scorching ray
to hit (touch) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
damage 4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 2, 6) = 16

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Mel Round 3 addendum:
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
possible additional damage 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 5, 3) = 15

Mel looks at Myri bleeding out on the ground, at Rhost barely keeping to his feet in the air. She dodges back a step and send a vicious ray of fire into the villain.

Male Half-elf Barbarian

Round 3:

Rhost is at -19 HP

Round 15 of Rage

Rhost is wounded more bitterly than ever before, and he cannot help himself. He laughs.

Renewed Vigor: Rhost gains 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 HP, then loses one (if he is still in the negative)

Male Human Cleric 10

Round 3 continued:
Alaric takes a five foot step away from Kimandatsu

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

Round 3:

Kalimac is not one to look a gift horse of a flanking opportunity in the mouth, so points his lance upwards to skewer the ogre mage from below.

Dice Rolling
Ride (just on principle): 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (8) + 19 = 27

Lance Attack 1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 (includes +2 from flanking)
Lance Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Bonus Precision Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Lance Attack 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 (includes +2 from flanking)
Lance Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Bonus Precision Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

Kyrademon:
I don't know that it would have made any difference (not knowing the die roll in question), but Kalimac's Banner ability is generally always on, and would have granted Rhost a +1 morale bonus on his attack roll made as part of a charge. (Rhost was within 60 feet of Kalimac and could see and hear him, I believe.) If Rhost missed by more than 1, it's a moot point.

I haven't been reciting the Banner effect before each battle, since its effects are only for Fear effects and Charges. Neither of which have come up before now.

If you wish me to call it out more often, I will. Just let me know.

Female Elven Urban Druid 9, Brightness Seeker 1

Fire Elemental Combat:
The fire elemental continues to attack Kimdatsu Silverskorr, slamming into her repeatedly. And moving to help flank if possible.

Burn Damage from Previous Round continues 1d8 ⇒ 4

To hit 1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15 Slam
Damage 1: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Burn: 1d8 ⇒ 8 take same damage for an addl 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds if fail reflex save...
Reflect DC16 1d20 ⇒ 7

To hit 2: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22 Slam
Damage 2: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Burn: 1d8 ⇒ 7 take same damage for an addl 1d4 ⇒ 4 rounds if fail reflex save...
Reflect DC16 1d20 ⇒ 8

Female Elven Urban Druid 9, Brightness Seeker 1

Lio Combat:

Lio 5 foots free away from Kimdatsu.

She casts another Druid spell, a burst of nettles errupting somewhere near Kimdatsu, just out of range of any of Lio's allies.

Caster Lvl Check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 Lio's dc is 21
Kim's Reflex save: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Nettle Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 6) = 11
Acid Damage next round 1d6 ⇒ 2

School conjuration [acid]; Level druid 3
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Area 10-ft.-radius burst
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw Reflex half; Spell Resistance yes
You release a burst of barbed, acid-filled nettles. Creatures caught in the burst take 3d6 points of damage plus 1d6 points of acid damage on the next round. Those that save take half damage from the initial burst and no damage on the next round

Enemy and NPC Action:

Kimandatsu
Tetsubo charge 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (6) + 17 = 23
Damage 2d8 + 11 ⇒ (2, 8) + 11 = 21

Skygni
6d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 2, 6, 6) = 26

Helgarval

Human Ranger

Round 3:

Myri moves her action to the end of the round and is either healed or dies. She does not stabilize 1d20 - 9 ⇒ (17) - 9 = 8.

If she wakes up:
1) she will get up if the big, scary creature moves away.
2) she briefly considers using a fugitive grenade...but that would screw up everybody attacking from below, so she will stay put if the big, scary creature still threatens her.

Kalimac:
Would not have made a difference in this case. But it might be good to remind your allies about it at the start of combat, at least the first few times.

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

Kyrademon:
Will do. It's probably good that I do so for my own good, too. I only got the ability at 5th level; it's very new to me.

COMBAT ROUND THREE

Kalimac is not one to look a gift horse of a flanking opportunity in the mouth, so points his lance upwards to skewer the ogre mage from below. But she manages to evade both of his attacks.

Kimandatsu takes more damage as the fire from the elemental’s strike spreads, and she does not heal any damage. Furious, she swings her club about.

Melinda takes 21 hit points of damage. Kalimac takes 21 hit points damage.

Skygni breathes another blast of cold over the ogress.

Kimandatsu’s Reflex save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Alaric takes a step away from Kimandatsu, grabs his broken link and channels.

Everyone heals 9 hit points. Myriana is at 0 hit points, conscious, prone, and staggered. Rhost is at -10.

Myriana looks up at the flying creature with the swinging club directly over her head, and stays put.

Mel looks at Myri barely conscious on the ground, at Rhost barely keeping to his feet in the air. She dodges back a step and send a vicious ray of fire into the villain – critically hitting her with a fierce, burning beam that finally elicits a scream from the ogre mage.

Rhost is wounded more bitterly than ever before, and he cannot help himself. He laughs. As he does so, the dent in his braincases pops itself out and his skull resumes its normal shape.

Rhost regains 14 hit points. He is at 4 hit points and no longer staggered.

Hrunndalf takes a step so as better to flank the hovering monstrosity, and drives Þrumublað through her rump with savage violence. Thanks to flanking, he hits, and muffled thunder booms from within the masses of purple flesh as he rips open another massive wound, aided a bit more by Kalimac’s tactics.

The fire elemental continues to attack Kimandatsu Silverskorr, moving in to flank and slamming at her repeatedly. Again thanks to flanking, its second strike connects, and ignites a new fire just as the first one gutters out.

Lio moves away from Kimandatsu and casts another Druid spell, a burst of barbed, acid-filled nettles erupting somewhere near Kimandatsu, just out of range of any of Lio's allies, piercing and spewing acidic destruction at her.

And Kimandatsu ...

Screaming in pain from fire, acid, cold, electricity, and plain old-fashioned stabbing ...

Crashes to the ground as you all leap (or roll) away from her giant corpse.

Combat rounds are over.

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

Note to my allies: Kalimac's Banner is still unfurled and displayed. So anyone within 60 feet of him who can see and hear him gets a +2 morale bonus to Fear Saves and +1 morale bonus on attack rolls made as part of a charge. You know, in case anyone thinks of charging a foe.

If my notes are correct:

Skygni, Xanderghul, and Helgarval are unwounded (thanks to either immunity to cold damage or evasion)
Alaric is down 3 hit points
Liothonae is down 5 hit points (plus Con damage)
Hrunndalf is down 5 hit points (plus Con damage)
Melinda is down 14 hit points
Attatoq is down 20 hit points
Kalimac is down 26 hit points
Myriana is down 37 hit points
Rhost is down 76 hit points

"If you all will please excuse me," Skygni growls, "I'm rather hungry."

On Kimadatsu's body or about the room, you will eventually find:

A wand of flame arrow (9 charges)
Lesser bracers of archery
Large masterwork composite longbow (+7 Str)
20 arrows
Large tatami-do armor
2 silver braziers worth 150 gp each
2 keys
Oathtaker: This Large +1 tetsubo is banded in corroded iron bearing brass studs that are embossed with wicked Tien characters of punishment and pain. Once per day, the wielder can bestow a blood geas upon a willing subject who swears an oath to the wielder (the wielder and the subject must agree on the exact nature of the oath). The blood geas functions as a mark of justice that activates if the subject of the blood geas breaks his oath, dealing 12d6+9 points of damage to the subject. If the subject survives, the blood geas is removed, though the subject can swear a new oath and receive a new blood geas if he chooses. A character can be under only one blood geas at a time. A blood geas is permanent unless removed by the wielder.

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Mel looks around the group. "Should we burn the body to be safe? Or just go find everyone else?" A pause. "After everyone gets healed..."

Another pause, "Her being in Skygni's belly works for me..."
