About Rhost Mab-i-gofRhost is six feet tall. Half man, half elf, he is older in spirit than in years. He is seen relatively often around Sandpoint, and is known to associate with the Mvashtis. His hair is the color of saffron, but stringy and tangled. His eyes are the exact color of ripe aubergines. He carries a giant hammer, a waterskin, and a backpack absolutely crammed full. He wears a grimy breastplate, sleeps with armor crafted from thick animal hides, and often smells funny. Background:
Raised in Magnimar, Rhost had a relatively happy childhood. His father ("Smith") was human, about the size of an oak tree, and one of the better blacksmiths in the town. His mother ("Cawl Cennin") was an elf, thin as a broomstick, but a wizard in the kitchen. What drew them together, no one could say.
Rhost officially apprenticed as a smith, but spent a lot of time in his mother's kitchen as well. He liked soups, rabbit, and spices that made his lips tingle. One day well into his apprenticeship, something went wrong with the forge. The fire had snapped its bondage, and it was alive and it was hungry. Rhost made it out in time to watch the smithy burn. Wood and canvas, rock and metal, it burned to the ground. There was nothing recognizable left. Twisted lumps of rock and metal. Drifts of ash. Rhost's father had been at the heart of the fire, and there was nothing even to bury. He never saw his mother again. With no idea what to do, Rhost wandered off into the woods to die. But he didn't die. In the woods, he rediscovered life, and kindled a fire within himself. He discovered his anger, and what it could do for him. And to him. He set off to seek -- well, he wasn't certain. But he decided to visit friends of his mother. Some of these people lived well off the beaten path, and others lived in cities far afield. The Mvashtis were friends of Cawl Cennin, and this is when Niska extracted a certain promise from Rhost. It turns out that having a purpose suits him. Rhost takes pleasure in two things: hitting objects with a large hammer, and cooking a good meal. A therapist might say that he does these things to be closer to the loving parents who are no longer around ... so it's a good thing there are no therapists nearby. Rhost Mab-i-gof:
