Would like to throw my hat in the ring for this one - I have obviously a few ideas up my sleeve, so throwing them up on the table to open the discussion.

First is a tiefling Paladin coming back home after her apprenticeship. Why a demon spawn ever came to live among humans was a matter surprisingly never really much brought to light, at least to her face - to her adopted parents she was a daughter, to other inhabitants she was a hard working girl helping out at the smithy, and to the kids who decided they wanted to measure their strength against the lean, beautiful tiefling, she usually was a nasty surprise. Adolescence brought some troublesome questions, but the answer was even more surprising when Tessai joined the church, leaving her homeland and following the path to become a Paladin, regardless of her heritage. Like many youngsters, she learned you can go far from home to look for something, but sometimes it has been sitting right next to you all along. Tessai has come to understand what it is she truly treasures - family, friends and her hometown, and that is why she has returned to Sandpoint.

So this is my idea thrown on the chat to hear opinions - she is obviously someone which upon arriving back at Sandpoint will be immediately drawn into whatever is ailing her adopted home. I imagine her as someone known in town. Maybe liked by some and disliked by others. I have a BIG beef with Paladins, and that is the 2+Int skill points per level. But what can you do?

As a player, I like the idea of a character who has a definite, clear concern about the town and its inhabitants. I love paladins, I am not afraid to play them boldly and with some actions that can some times be surprising. I am looking for a game, not for a set of characters interested only in getting from one encounter to the other.

So the debate is open, feel free to throw questions my way :)

I've made my invites to the new potentials. If you didn't receive a Private Message from me, then you were not one of the lucky ones. I wish I had time to run for everyone, but I just don't.

Okay, it's been a few months, so I won't be going back and looking at previous players to try and find someone who was interested. To much could have changed in the past 6 months.

So here is a refresher on the game rules:
1)So here is the deal. I started a RotRL game, and people stopped posting. So I shut the game down. As such, let me be very clear on one thing about my DM style. I post to tell you how the world (and its inhabitants) respond to what you and yours are doing. I WILL NOT push you along. Not my thing.
That being said, I am looking for players who will take an active approach to the game. Who will explore the dungeon and tell me what they're doing. I'm looking for 4 posts a week (preferably on weekdays). I don't tend to post on the weekends, so grace period there. I don't care what the posts are, either. If all 4 of your posts are roleplaying, great. That means you're still invested in the game. And that is what I want.

2) Also, as the title says, I am looking for PLAYERS, not characters. If you post in here and say, "Oh, here's my character, please consider it", I'm going to ignore you. I firmly believe that the group of players should build a party together in chat (I usually give about 2 weeks for this) to fill the roles. I have 1 players lined up, and I'm looking for 4 or 5 more to fill the rest of the "table". Again, please do not post here about your character. Only post here if you can commit to the game.
2a) Now, I know that not everyone who signs up will make it through. Real life gets in the way of the game. I get that. And there will be breaks from the game during major holidays and such. However, it you can't post, or don't think you'll be able to post, I expect you to say something. Doesn't need to be much, just a quick "Won't be on much for a few days/weeks, real life stuff" is all it takes.

3)All that being said, if you've made it this far and haven't given up on me for being an overly pompous @hole, then we can continue to character building.
_________________________
1) Paizo only with a few exceptions to follow. I prefer Core stuff, but I’m down for anything…. anything that fits the theme of the campaign. If you make a gunslinger, that’s cool. If you make a gunslinger that is modeled after Al Pacino, I’m going to take my proverbial DM finger and proverbially flick your character off the proverbial map and tell you to make something else. Anything not from the Core Rulebook has to be from a book I own, which is most of them. I have pretty much everything except the player companions and gazetteers. Just ask.
Non-Paizo allowed sources: 3.5 Eberron races (Warforged, Shifter, Changling) and their racial feats. These are done as is from the original source material. Possibly some changes to feats if the level (or BAB) requirements call for it.

2) You will discuss your party amongst yourself. I don’t pull punches and I won’t change the AP to compensate for the party make up. Don’t have a rogue? There will still be locked doors and traps. Don’t have a controller? There will still be mobs. Keep this in mind while you’re discussing your party make up.

3) The technical side.
22 point buy (not a typo)
2 traits
Full HP at level 1
Roll for starting gold, minimum is 150
No evil alignment (prefer no CN; but if you think you can pull it off, I’ll let you try)

4) Once you have your character nailed down, I want you to tell us about them. The info I'm looking for is: Why are they adventuring/willing to adventure? Why are they adventuring here? What do they want? (Short term and long term) And this last one is both proverbial and literal. Do they want safety for the village? Great. Do they want a Rod of the Sunlords? I'll work it into the game eventually. So give me a break down of both the characterization and the mechanical progression you hope to make.

5) Background skills are allowed, but only for Craft, Perform, Profession. And only if it's not related directly to your class. I think that works against what this option is going for. So, if you're a Bard, you can't use your background skill in Perform. If you're an Alchemist, you can't use your background skill for Craft (Alchemy).

6) Standard multi-classing.

________________
Here is the change. Real life took one player from us (not dead, just left), so now the party needs a healer. If you're interested in playing, I am not looking for a character on these posts, just a player who is willing to join the group as a healer. It'll probably be a few weeks before the party encounters you since they're still in a dungeon, so don't expect to just jump in immediately. I'll contacted players I'm interested in via PM.

K, I will throw in first.
I have been dying to play this AP.

A few questions:

-- In keeping with the need for a healer, can we work with a kineticist healer, or does the request mean traditional divine healer-type?
(I can be good with either, just asking)
-- 2 traits which can be 3 with a drawback, or, "thanks but I don't want to deal with your special needs so you can have another trait"
(again, can work with either, the question is mechanical)
-- Happy to provide a progression for both healing talents and ancillary aether talents, along with ranged attack progression, through like 7th lvl when Expanded Element is chosen and the character can become cool
-- Zero interest in evil
-- Zero interest in class dilution
-- LOVE people who can fairly gently pull off being an "at"hole ...

Hi, GM Sphen. I'm interested. I have been playing in these forums for a few years now and don't intend to stop. I haven't dropped out of any of my games. There have been times that I spent 2~3 days without posting without notice, but it hasn't happened more than 3 times over the few last years.

About myself:

I am currently running two tables of Rise of the Runelords and I understand if you would consider this a deal breaker. I am capable of keeping player and character knowledge separate, but I can understand if you are interested in relaying the story to someone who doesn't know any of it.

I like to think of myself as a team player, and I get more involved with the game as my character develops and becomes more like a person. This is why I go for the long haul, as the game is more enjoyable to me when I grow attached to my character.

Occasionally I have a week or two when I'm overwhelmed at work, or have an argument with my wife or something, then my posting can be a little uninspired, but it passes.

Hope this gives a rough idea of what kind of player I am.

About the character I am thinking of:

While I don't intend to flesh out a full character sheet unless I get selected, I have a rather good idea of what character I would make if selected. For this AP, I want to play a half-orc follower of Iomedae. Being born in an Varisian orc tribe, he was shunned for his human ancestry, being considered too weak. Although the wiser orcs could see the potential in him, he refused his rite of passage, which included the cruel murdering of a prisoner, and fled.

After answering the call to Iomedae, he wondered for a while trying to find himself, when he heard of the goblin problem in Sandpoint and decided to travel there. He arrives shortly after the town heroes come back from Thistletop, having guaranteed the town's safety for now.

His short-term goal is to find his path in the name of his goddess, and his long-term goal is to find a people to call his own. He has a desire to be recognized by his feats, compassion and resolve.

In terms of chaotic neutral,

I can pull this off pretty well in PnP at a table (you get a much better idea of when your hijinks are appreciated when you can see peoples faces :) ).

Stuff my last chaotic neutral character in a PnP (Wrath of the righteous) did:

I prefer to play somewhat martial utility characters who can do at least one type of social interaction (be that diplomacy, bluff or intimidate) reasonably well. I do like bluffing/fun/non standart ways of solving a situation, and refuse to play characters with no sense of humor.

WOTR Spoilers

Spoiler:

--Bluff a bunch of Baphomet Cultist into believing that the parties Paladin is "the chosen one", via a clever application of Alter Voice, Ventriloquism, a conveniently placed statue of Baphomet and a fairly high bluff roll.

--Troll a Succubus into betraying the big bad of module 2, by succesfully bluffing her boss into believing that Nocticula secretly suports the crusade (thus explaining its success) and that the Sucubus in question is a double agent, prompting the big bad to attack her. Said succubus actually tanked a lot of the encounter, and, after disappearing for the rest of the act became his "secretary" after he became Nocticulas herald.

--In Alyshinara (Succubus capital city in the Abyss), declare a bounty the virginity of the parties (actually an everbright crusader) Paladin, but with the specification that it must be taken consensually and without utilizing magical compulsion. This led to some shenanigians, gained the party a degree of notoriety, and the Paladin the Arena nickname "Virgin Slayer". He also made a bet that the Paladins virginity would not be conquered, which he won. The only loot related dispute was that the Paladin, when made aware of what was going on afterwards, demanded a part of the bet winnings since "he did all the work".
The Paladin PC was miffed about it, but the player spent much of the module laughing her ass off.

--Early act 5, succesfully established "the virgin-slayed" as a humorous title/Epithet/nickname for the big bad of Act 4.This had the highly amused approval of the one who actually did the slaying.

--Established "Shamiras breats are padded!", as a war cry for one side during a short little Alyushinaran civil war.

--Accepted Nocticulas profane ascension,(and later became her herald) which shifted him from CN to CE. In the scene with Iomedae, when questioned about this, "confessed his sins", Tyrion Lannister in the vale of Eyrie style. Still sufficied (GM Fiat) to get back to CN from being CE after accepting the profane ascension. Got still booted out of heaven for among other things, "unreasonably long, detailed and accurate descriptions of Shamira the ardent dreams invisible yet undeniably effective breast paddings".

Stuff he did not:
--Steal the parties things/randomly kill people.
--Random detrimental stupidity
--Actively destroy or disrupt other peoples social play
--Go off on his own because his idea of doing things is "clearly better".

Hi!

RotR, this is one of the spikes stuck in my flank. There are two APs I would love to finish, and one of them is this one.

Recently, before summer, I had to drop from most of my games due to work/studies overload. I was in many games with 3pp or special, alternative rules. I decided I was only going to join 5e games, which are way simpler rulewise, with a couple exceptions.

A RotR game is one of the exceptions.

So! What about me? I don't know... what do you want to know? I guess what might worry you the most is my commitment. Well, now that high season is slowly fading out, I have more time to check games every day.

I have to say most times I check from the mobile, so there are some things like moving tokens on the map that might have a small wait, or that I would have to ask a fellow player or the DM to do for me.

Also, I'm not usually keen of very long posts. I'm a long time reader, and long, repetitive descriptions kind of turn me off. I prefer to put my own faces to people, let's say.

I imagine some others might also be interested in these answers, so...

1) Need not be a traditional healer. So long as you understand that the party will be relying on you for this. And not just hit points, but having the ability to help with diseases and such later on.

2) No drawbacks.

Understood, thank you. I will look at the progression closely.

Having looked, I will do a complete 180. I am totally a team player and that progression wasn't strong enough.

If selected, I will present to the party a Varisian Elf, Cleric of Ketephys.

Any additional questions?

Mmmh... not that I can think of. I'm probably missing something important to ask, though.

I didn't have any. Although now, I wonder. How is the game's pace? I checked the gameplay and there hasn't been many updates for a week, so I'm wondering if that is the case altogether.

I post at least 4 times a week, usually 5, responding to everything done in the past 24 hours. I don't post on the weekends or holidays. As stated, I expect each player to make at least 4 posts a week.

Great! I'll wait for a decision then.

Alright, I've sent the p.m. to the player I picked. I won't say here who it is to avoid any hurt feelings. And I say sincerely, better luck next time folks.

You know, we could always spy the discussion or even the gameplay thread :p

Indeed you could.
