Ethan's ready to go, and it looks like I have a signal. Do we want to have any of the characters start out knowing each other, or is Sandpoint everyone's first meeting?
I am fine with knowing anyone having a similar background. Any smith or spellcaster I could know at least as an aquaintance.

I figure those of us who travelled the three days it takes to go from Maginmar to Sandpoint would likely be coming in with the same group of travellers. Likely a makeshift caravan...ie a collection of merchants and farmers with carts and wagons. Maybe? Probably not enough to be bosom buddies, but maybe enough that we are familiar with each other.
Added Opalia's background so she has plenty of flesh on her now. Ready to start now.
She will have travelled to Sandpoint from the Sanos Forest or Churlwood. Heading west or south rather than from Magnimar. However as a traveller for the last ten years she may have befriended anyone with links to nature, learning or especially Desna. The Swallowtail festival could have been a good place to meet up again after a few weeks, months or years.

Ethan could have met up with Opalia on his way to Standpoint, as he would have approached from roughly the same direction.
Both are archers, and Erastilians are also nature-oriented, so it seems the two would have enough in common to find easy conversation while on the road.

Opalia will happily share nature stories and elven archery techniques. Her archery skills are apparently minimal (for an elf). She did make her own attractive longbow.
Luculpha, her companion, will then have time to befriend the priest.

Butcher is not likely to know any of the others overly well, but he is more likely to have come from the East and North than from Magnamar. It is possible that he might have taken up with other travellers on the way in order to offer them the additional safety of numbers. Noticing that one of them was a Cleric of Erastil, he'd have given his respects to the man, and perhaps joined in during times of worship, using his own simple wooden carving of Erastil's holy symbol.
Zataya has spent a lot of time in Magnimar recently, learning about the ancient Thassilon empire. She is done now, and is on her way to Sandpoint.

He's had no posts since December 20th, but given the time of year, it doesn't seem too unusual. A lot of people don't get back to routine until the Monday after new years (that's when my own vacation ends).

I'm seeing another RotRL AP recruitment thread out there. Granted, it's 30-point buy and gestalt, but still...I know we're all hoping that RA will return, but any thoughts on whether it's likely at this point?

Id lean to not since he hasnt been on the boars since the 21st...and in his original post he even says he wont disappear for more than a couple days. Id have to say real life probably got him in a grip right now.
All that being said, Im loathe to abandon this just yet. I say if hes not around within another week we can probably stick a fork in it.
The thread you mention...new GM Gestalt...just reeks of a game that will falter.
Gestalt is really hard to do well, and is usually done by power gaming players who have no idea how hard it is to adjudicate a power gaming game. While gestalt can be done well and be a lot of fun, it usually implodes in short order.
I'm not is a rush to run off and find another game as I have a few that are still going. That being said, I will keep an eye on this forum. If it does die, it will be too bad, but if RA eventually shows up, I'll probably still be good to play.
Good points, Butcher. I am still interested in playing the AP with this character if RA shows up again, and will be able to separate player/character knowledge just fine, but don't want to miss an opportunity, just in case.

I saw the other recruitment thread start too, but I have never played a gestalt character. This one as a mystic theurge wannabee is the closest I would come.
Whatever happens here we are being treated shoddily by RA. He is setting us a bad example of what to do in the event of a real life problem and my enthusiasm for this as a long term game is waning. That may seem harsh but in the last few years I have seen several instances of people suffering bad events and the good DMs let you know straight away that they will be awol for a while. How long does it take to make a quick post to this thread? Surely common courtesy dictates you let us know?
In fact that is exactly what DM Jonasty has done with my Carrion Crown game. We know that he has an issue, we aren't guessing and we just get on with life until he returns.
I can understand why some of you want to give it a week or so, and so for your sakes I am agreeing to that. On the 15th I will withdraw my application for this game.
