there's AoO, which you get when they come within range. I thought you had also held an attack (basically waiting to use your normal standard action) for when they came in range. If so you get 2 attacks, not 1. FURTHER because you have a "brace" weapon if you hit someone with a held attack when they charge you you do double damage.

Simon's gun fires wildly into the melee. The skeletal archers back away as ordered, firing at their foes. let them fire first - and one wasp goes down.
The skeletal warrior lashes out at its foe, doing some minimal damage with its claws.
Anglon moves up and lashes out at another wasp, once again using his impaling cleave to kill it near-instantly. The acrid smell of acid emanates from its already scarred corpse.

Simon Demarkus |
"D@**IT!" Simon says as his previous bullet goes wide, though he fires again.
Ranged touch 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 241d8 ⇒ 4
Then makes a motion with his hand to send another cold firework at the enemy.
1d4 ⇒ 2 cold damage
Thkrull |
Hoping to finish off his foe more quickly, Thkrull claws savagely at the wasp nearest him, trying to rip it to shreds.

Simon Demarkus |
The Runelords kill the remaining wasps in short order. Only the wasp fleeing back towards the hive still lives.
sorry guys, especially with the blessing, those wasps are DEAD. Unless someone wants to stop the fleeing wasp, combat is over.
Simon will fire his remaining cold snapdragon fireworks for good measure. If it dies great, but not a priority.
Thkrull |
"Oh, defnitly," Thkrull says through a mouthful of wasp. After a moment, he spits some of the shell out.
"Crunchy. Kind of stings the tongue, though. Definitely not as good as chicken. Let's go find out if the mites taste any better and get their statue back."
Simon Demarkus |
With dramatic flourish Simon fires a few last cold snapdragon fireworks at the fleeing wasps. Then turns to his companions
"I believe Grey mentioned some use for the wasps, but beyond that we should definitely press on. We should head the direction the wasps came from."
He holsters his gun and picks up his symbol of office.
Harakani DM |
Tree is about 3000ft. Seems like the have some idea you are coming. Is anyone casting anything? Are you still going to the tree? If so, how fast (base speed and walk/hustle/run/sprint)? Remember is a sandbox - you can attack now, back off and come back later, try negotiation: whatever you want. I've been pretty impressed with the group's lethality so far!
20ft move x double move is 75 rounds = seven and a half minutes.
Arioch Bellimarius |
Obviously Arioch has dropped his inspire Courage.
Observing the tree along with the others, Arioch muses. "From everything I recall, Mites make bad neighbors. That tree looks a bit too big to effectively burn down & I rather doubt they will be as...
reasonable,
as our scaly friends have proven."
"Far be it from me to presume, but I suspect our company should prove equal to this task set before us."
Simon Demarkus |
Ever pragmatic Simon says,
"We could just burn the tree down. "
Arms crossed looking hard at the tree. You get the impression he's working out the logistics even as he speaks.
Arioch Bellimarius |
Knowledge (Engineering): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26, to determine how readily a structure the size of the tree would burn down in the present conditions.
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27, to determine how readily a tree that big will burn down in the present conditions.
Harakani DM |
It is an old tree, and enormous. If you could get it to start burning it'd turn into a chimney and burn like fireworks.
But it is old, hard wood. It would take a lot to get any of it hot enough to burn.
You could set a bonfire and let it burn for a while. There's magic and alchemy that could do it.
The two big problems are (A) there are inhabitants smart enough to put out the fire and (B) if the statue is inside and you collapse the tree it might be difficult to get, possibly even injured.
Mechanically it'll take a hundred points of damage to a 5ft area in 30 rounds or less to set it on fire. Once it is on fire the tree will burn slow, but will be effectively unstoppable.
