So weirdly, I'm not dead. Unlike normal, I've actually not been in a depression spiral but actually been getting a lot done on my stay at home vacation and couldn't afford to compromise my momentum by getting on the forums, which takes a lot out of me.
Still, my bad. I'd very much planned to post but something always seemed to come up. I'm planning to return to a normal posting schedule.

So... there's a lot of questions about PFS play on the recruitment thread that I can't answer, and I'm not even sure I've been running PFS properly at all at this point.
Is that something we should still enforce? If so, I going to need help getting the character creation stuff right.
Artofregicide |
Just as an FYI: I've added 3 potential players to the game. I'm going to drop Wulfgang into the background until when/if he returns, and most likely Nadya won't have as proactive of a combat roll.
To adjust for six players, I will be increasing the difficulty accordingly.
They are welcome to start posting in the OOC now - but will wait to be introduced in the IC thread (soon as I can reasonably make happen).

/me waves.
I was invited to join, but was (reasonably) told I should adjust my backstory. Might take me a few days to get that part done. I need to do some research before I can build something both consistent with the story and that makes sense to me.
For the record, I don't care about PFS credit, but I certainly don't mind supporting anyone who does.
Grimgisli is, well, quite grim. A dedicated archery ranger, with bonuses while in the Forest, Cold favored terrain, and HUMAN favored enemy.
As suggested, I will adapt the story so he never went South, and may well build a connection to Nadya, because that will explain and simplify MANY things.
Take your time adding us. Do it when and where it makes sense.
And thank you for having me.
Edit: Need to double-check build rules, too!
Double-Edit. Level to 4, gear to Level 3 WBL, and adding Baba-Yaga's Boon seem to be the mechanical changes necessary. I'm supposed to make cookies tonight to repay a neighbor repairing a broken piece of wooden furniture for my wife, though. Shouldn't take long for those mechanical bits, though, once I can start them.

Heya!
Artofregicide, in answer to your question regarding Annalise...
So, this character is actually one I first made up for a homebrew that was originally just supposed to be a rom-com if you can believe it. Virtually identical to how he's currently presented, just some of the place-names & world events changed. Annalise was always the love of his life, in the original she died in the events of the diaspora in which he also lost his/their homeland...
In the present incarnation, she was the daughter of a Riddleport Pirate Captain & well on her way to becoming one herself before she became another casualty in a turf war between 'factions' there. A turf war that also ended Vinccenso's mother's life.
Vinccenso's Mother was a Kellid refugee who somehow made her way to Riddleport from parts North, fell in with a bad crowd, and wound up a prostitute. Vinccenso was actually trying to convince her to leave his Namesake & either let him support her from his adventuring or at least work in the Calistrian Temple in Riddleport, since the head priestess there was effectively in charge of the sex-work industry there, which might have had something to do with the two women in Vinccenso's life getting targeted & killed. Vinccenso's not the best at working out probable consequences (Low Wisdom, go figure...)
Since then, I figure he made his way North, probably via the Linnorm Kings, being the mercenary sort, he likely hired himself out to a trade caravan between the Linnorm Kings & Irrisen with the intent to try & track down his Mother's people & learn more about his 'real' people...

So, double fridging isn't all that interesting of a backstory to me, honestly. Killing off all your your backstory connections so the GM can't use them against you seems like adventuring 101, but really you're just losing out on plot hooks.
If I can suggest an alternative, Annalise left for Irrisen without explanation or only vague clues, and Vinccenso has followed her there. In addition, he does want to learn about the other half of his ancestry.
At some point in his journey, he ran into one of the Riders presumably.

I completely failed to consider I was fridging them...
I am sad.If I can suggest an alternative, Annalise left for Irrisen without explanation...
That works.

Besides, you'll want to leave fridge space open for leftovers... of stupid, stubborn, or disrespectful children, obviously.

i don't remember whose, but i noticed background skills on someone's character sheet. i don't remember seeing anything about them in character creation. did i miss something? because i would love a few more skill points...

I wasn't aware of background skills being in effect?
Vinccenso Pruffi |
Pretty sure I built with Background skills. If I did so in error, will correct.
Edit: I went ahead & pulled the Background skills from my sheet.
Grimgisli |
Brought the character in line.
Modified the background. Tried to accommodate Dear Grandmother's suggestions as cleanly as I could think of a way to do quickly.
I will accept recommendations against either of the above, of course.

okay, i believe i've cleaned up my backstory if you want to take a look, Grandmother.
also, i wanted to ask about a couple of masterwork tools. it says they should either be limited uses or have a very narrow use, so i was hoping to get a hatchet (or something) and a hunting knife for +2 circumstantial bonuses on survival checks to gain a bonus to fort saves against weather and on survival checks to "get along in the wild" (hunt and forage while traveling) respectively. i didn't just buy them because they seemed of the "ask your GM first" variety of purchase.

So, normally I really don't like custom mundane items, but a) you actually asked instead of just adding them to your sheet (a player did that to me recently) and b) you specified that they're very specific, which they should be.
On the other hand, I have a hard time imagining how these tools would warrant their bonus in the way that mwk artisan tools or thieves tools would? I guess a really nice knife would help you butcher and skin game?
I guess, sell me on how these work in the narrative?
also, i meant to ask if we can see/feel the Baba Yaga's boon on each other? does our own mantle give us the sense that the others share our quest or anything of the sort?
Oh, good point! I don't know if you can exactly feel the boon on the others, but you do have an immediate sense of trust and comradeship.

... He rejoins, "Бојим се да нисам ниједан човек под оружјем, само путујући учењак."...
Dear Grandmother, what is the Knowledge check to recall details about Moss Trolls?
I'd rather not use IRL languages in place of Golarion ones, especially due to *spoilers* later in the AP.
A better way to format it would be:
Language "Dialogue"
Knowledge (local) for giants and trolls, as they are humanoids.

If you don't want custom a masterwork item there are options that are upgrades to what you proposed.
Survival kit is +2 to all survival checks to get along in the wild, deal with severe weather, keep from getting lost, avoid natural hazards such as quicksand, and predict the weather. Plus it comes with flint and steel, a mess kit, two waterskins (enough to hold water for 1 person for 1 day), very basic maps showing major landmarks, and a small utility knife. As well as a guide to identifying flora and fauna.
Furs give you (and explicitly stack with other clothing):
The most basic of cold-weather gear, animal furs serve to keep their wearers warm. Wearing enough fur to cover the body provides a +2 bonus on Fortitude saves to resist cold weather. This does not stack with any bonuses gained from the Survival skill. Furs may supplement another outfit.
Adrian Arsbeta |
actually, i didn't see the survival kit lol. probably because it was under kits, and i looked under tools. thanks! i already have the basic cold weather gear. i was just trying to make it as easy as possible for the group to pass all their checks.
dr. kekyll |
hmm... apparently it's either furs or the survival skill bonus, so does everyone have furs? if so, i can grab furs too and we never need to make the survival check for the for bonus. though i imagine we're still making hunting and foraging checks. or are we largely hand-waving rations?
p.s. i grabbed a MW survival kit
