This space is for out-of-character discussion once we get the game started.


In case it matters, I will be traveling Mon-Thurs this week for work. As a result, I may be slow to respond or miss a day completely depending on circumstances. Will get back in normal pattern Thursday PM.


Making a few updates to the game space as time allows. You should see, in the top margin, a few links. One should be a map of the village of Heldren. A key to the numbered locations is on the Campaign Info tab.

Also on that tab is a running list of NPC's met. When possible, i will link pictures of the NPC's so you can visualize them easier.

Lastly, there is a loot tracker linked at top. This should be view only, not editable. There are three tabs here, mostly blank. The first tab will show accumulated treasure and estimated value of unassigned items or things held for sale. The second tab is cash held by each character. The third tab is items that have been assigned or claimed by individuals. It may help with fair distribution down the road.

One ask. Can you each post the cash you have left after initial purchases to load into the tracker? If you post here, I will update.

The border wood is nearby, that's where the story really starts. It makes sense to have a lumber camp there.

As you can see from the Gameplay posts, the action for each of you is a little out of sync timewise, but it will all sync back up when we get the story to start next week.

Glad to hear it! Hope it was a great time. Will have to make it there myself one of these days.

I have moved the story forward a day, getting ready to start the action. Using some creative license to start the game, but will follow along the steps of the AP, pretty closely with a little flavor thrown in from time to time.

Have been a bit slower to post, while waiting for end of GenCon, but I would like to see us get to a post-per-day schedule, so please check in and post updates as frequently as possible. I will usually make a mid-day and an evening update when time and schedule allows.

When we get to combat situations or others requiring a skill check or post from a particular player, I will observe a 24-hour rule. If you haven't posted by then, I will DM-PC your character, either following prescribed guidelines, if any, set by you, or making the best of the situation as I would do if it were my character. Of course, an note from you about absenteeism will shorten that time period and allow the game to progress faster. If you will miss, doing us the courtesy would be greatly appreciated!

I found an Arctic Kit for 27 GP. It has everything that Skyne asked for except the furs, and has some additional other gear. It's 27 GP.

The big problem I see is it weighs 30 pounds.

I believe the items on my list totaled 30 gp and 18 lbs. Here are my thoughts:

  • Furs and the cold-weather outfit stack, though furs don't stack with the bonus from Survival.
  • A lot of the items in the arctic kit are things that we don't all need, i.e. a small iron pot.
  • I can start prepping endure elements tomorrow for characters who can't handle the weight.


  • Let me know when you are all set to head out for the ambush site. Need to know who, if anyone, takes a second Endure Elements offered, who takes the cold-iron sword, and how the potions are disseminated. Other than that, I am ready when you are.

    I had missed the cold-iron longsword from the guard. If no one else wants it, Jack will take it.

    I suggest we split the potions up. Maybe give Irina, Peltra and Ruso the curative ones, and Skyne the restoration one?

    If no one takes the last Endure Elements, Jack will - it seems a waste to leave it. But I recommend Peltra or Skyne take it for today.


    I think one of my posts got eaten. Will get it back up later tonight. That's where the cold iron sword came from.

    To be clear, the enchanted cold iron sling bullets aren't free, with the discount they would probably cost you about 680gp right now. More than you can afford. Second, I assume that everyone who took a cold weather outfit is pitching in the 4.8 gp for it -- with Teppen's discount.

    I missed they were enchanted. I thought they were just Cold Iron which is why I asked for them.

    I will be traveling for work this week, and likely unable to post much during the days. Should be able to post in the evenings from hotel, but even that may be suspect depending on what my market has in store for me.

If you have not taken your turn in that time, I will run your character either following your guidance (which you should post or send to me) or whatever action is most sensible for you at the time. This is not intended as a punishment, but instead to keep the action flowing.

    Works for me. There are botting instructions in my profile, though they will change as we level up.

    Edit: Would it be possible to bold the names of characters who are currently up to act? I don't know about others, but it's a lot easier for me to track combat that way.

    ha! What's the range on enlarge? We could totally enlarge foes from far away and then shoot arrows at the large targets!

    Honestly, I have never really played with enlarge - most of my characters are dex based (I have a few halflings and gnomes that use reduce person quite effectively). But Jack is probably a decent candidate - his AC is pretty poor anyway, and reach, strength and damage dice might make for a much more devastating swing.

    Enlarge person and reduce person are close range. My saving throw DCs are crappy though, Skyne's built for support.


    Will update when Irina posts next. But wanted to clarify that Enlarge Person has several effects on the recipient, in this case Wulfgang.

    First, his sizes increase to large. This means his reach also increases to 10', as does his space, hence the larger counter on the map. The target gains a +2 size bonus to Strength, a –2 size penalty to Dexterity (to a minimum of 1), and a –1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to its increased size. Weapon damage for the target is also increased as the weapon grows in size.

    For Wulfgang, this means his AC drops from 14 to 12 (though it is augmented by Skyne to increase to 13 for 1 round). His attack bonus is the same at +6 and his damage moves from 1d12 to 3d6 for enlarged greataxe.

    There may be other effects (for instance REF reduced by 1) depending on his actions, but these are most common.

    I was rereading my character, and I just realized that a Winter Witch cannot learn spells with the fire descriptor. The Vengeance Patron is all about fire. I can just not use my 2nd and 4th level patron spells or I could change, with permission of course, my patron to Storms.

    Thoughts?

    I don't want you to give up your patron spells. You can either switch as you say, or if Vengeance really speaks to you, we can replace the fire damage from those spells with cold/ice damage instead. You can choose.

    Defeated: 3 zombies. Earned 100 xp per player, or about 5% to level 2.

    Injured:
    Wulfgang - at 2/12 HP (unless he takes CLW potion)

    I find this kind of summary useful after combats, to make sure we all in the same page as to status, and avoid future disputes etc. If I have misrepresented or missed something, please bring forward ASAP.
