Barely stifling a grin, Tam says, "Luigi, this is Ryo - he's a diviner I met on yet another one of my jaunts across the galaxy. And this is my...well, this is my girlfriend, Aananda."
"WHAT THE #*$@!!!! You have a #@!*in' GIRLFRIEND!! Did 1234in' Mezzenbone just keel over and die? What the #@$% is this!? Wow....
He turns back to Aananda.
"Well excuse my #$*&in' bad language, Aananda. I had no idea this little #@$% here had finally grown up and gotten respectable. Hey I'm just kiddin' ya buddy," as an unseen forces chucks Tam in the shoulder.
"Aiiight, let's get some real food out here then. Go ahead and bring out the goods Lucy!!!"
Large Luigi |
Cardcaster Ryo wrote:"It's all good Luigi. I'll say this about Tamrin here, he makes strange friends no matter where he goes. If you don't mind my asking, how does one cook with only eyestalks? Magic and technology merge a lot here, and I was wondering of you used one over the other, or blended them together."
This got Aananda's attention. "Oh! I just assumed he used telekinesis. Is there technology that can do that?" You can practically see the thoughts getting going as she tries to picture how that would work.
"Oops. Sorry. I don't mean to be impolite, Mr. Luigi. Sometimes I get a little carried away. I really like machines."
"Oh I just put my #%$*in' mind to it," as Luigi moves an eyestalk to look at Lucy bringing out the first of several large platters on a rolling cart. The platter lifts off and floats over to the table, carefully being divested of its contents onto the waiting table beneath.

"Oh, good, I'm starving." :)
"Mmm. It smells delicious." she said, momentarily distracted from her ideas about tech designs by the presence of food.
She waits impatiently for everyone else to take a portion before she dug in.

"Now don't get me wrong - I got the the most state-o'-the-art kitchen yous gonna see ANYWHERE in this galaxy, believe me. But unless you got the chops up here," as he knocks the top of his head with another eyestalk,"that don't count for a pile of @#!%, you know what I'm sayin'?

Lucy shows her own chops by expertly navigating the remaining trays to the table and unloading a feast of unearthly proportions for the trio. The wine is opened, glasses are filled, and plates are loaded. The smells of seasoned meats, rich sauces and hot pasta fill the room.
Think of the mother of all italian dinners, everything top of the line. Flavors so vibrant you almost cry, they are so good. Bellisimo ^.^
Ryo, this is where you need to send Razzy to, um, 'Cooking School'. Yeah, that's the ticket.... ;D
Imperial Chronicler |
There actually is some food left over by the time Aananda is full. I'll waive the normally required San checks for now... ;P
Luigi matches her bite for bite, long after Ryo and Tam have thrown in the towel. Finally, everyone is sated, the table is cleared, and a variety of drinks (including safe stuff for non-drinkers) is brought out.

...Alright. My one moment of breathing room. Quick summary commencing...now:
Tam explains their need to acquire some exotic materials for Starcaster construction, and Luigi agrees to talk to an associate of his to see about acquiring some of it (since only a small amount is needed).
The group then goes on to explain that they're also looking for a buyer who recently arrived here. Seeing the seriousness on Tam's face when he asks about this guy, Luigi confirms the description of 'Professor Tyres', and tells them that he came through the station five days ago looking for remote surveillance equipment "in a @#*$in' hurry, without much paperwork to have to file, you know what I'm sayin'?"
His money was good though, as he was able to also get his hands on a small ship as well - he evidently bought the thing straight out. He left the Bautaum system two days ago, with a nice load of gear. The ship's name was the Garnet.
Luigi will be able to get the Starcaster material here by tomorrow. He invites the trio to stay and enjoy a little more family hospitality while they wait. ;)
We're having some kind of IT hardware move over the weekend, so Monday will probably be dicey for me posting-wise. We'll see what happens....
Hope everybody, as always, has a good weekend.
Imperial Chronicler |
The trio (with a referral from Luigi) are able to find a nice place to stay the night on-station. The next morning, they meet back up with Luigi at the restaurant before it opens.
"Well good mornin' sleepyheads! I was wondering when you was goin' ta @!$*'in grace me again with your presence! Siddown, the chow's ready to go!"
The doors to the kitchen are thrown wide as another caravan of platters come out, the smell of bacon, eggs, cheese, bread and jams making everybody's mouths salivate with anticipation. (^-^)
Imperial Chronicler |
As the ten-course breakfast starts to wind down, one more platter comes out from the kitchen. This one is smaller than the others, and is covered. It is wheeled over to Aananda, and the waiter pulls the lid off to reveal a carafe filled with a shiny, mercury-like liquid. Next to the carafe is a cylindrical steel container.
Large Luigi |
"Aaah fuhget about it!!" he says with a laugh. "You always @$*%'in bring me new and thoughtful gifts when you come by to visit. Always polite, always respectful - and Luigi always takes care of friends like that, neh?" ;)
"Anywhoos, I hope that stuff there helps you out with whatever you're doing these days. And I hope you find your guy too. I get any more word of him doin' 'business', I'll shoot it your way."
Large Luigi |
Aananda 'squee's with delight when she sees the ingredients she needs to make the personal starcasters. She is pretty much bouncing with impatience to get to something resembling a lab so she can work on them.
"Thank you so much, Mr. Luigi," she said, all smiles.
"Glad I could help such a nice lady as yourself. Don't get yourself *#@!'in blown up or anything, aiiight?"
"Now I need to get back to the kitchen and get to @#$%'in work on some lunch and dinner for my regulars (and before this little lady decides to use my kitchen as a lab!), so I'm gonna hafta scram," he says as he floats away from the table.
"Yous guys take care, and don't be strangers, eh? "
Aananda |
Aananda waves goodbye to Luigi. She's bouncing like a kid on Christmas morning she's so anxious to get to work.
"So, what now? Is there enough room on the ship for me to work on these do you think? Can we go there now? I'm sure it won't take long. And I remembered to pack a lead-lined apron and gloves just like the doctor said. Hurry up you guys, you're going so slow."

The Prism has a small garage/work area that is part of its main cargo deck. Aananda should be able to work on the devices there, rather than having to find a place on-station. ;P
Aananda |
Aananda hurries the others back to the ship talking nonstop, and as soon as they arrive she makes a beeline for the work area and puts on the protective gear. She is soon totally absorbed in her work, totally oblivious to the world around her. After a few hours she surfaces.
I don't know if we've been flying in the meantime or not. She hasn't noticed if we are. :)
"Hey, guys, what's going on? I've got the starcasters done. I was able to make six. I figure that's one for each of us and two that we can donate to your friends, Tam. I bet they would really like to have the ability to get to and from places without any travel records. Er, well, they're mostly done. They all still need to be primed with teleport spells. But otherwise they're done. And then we should probably test them. Just to be sure."
"....so what have you guys been up to? And how long was I working? I'm starving...."
Tamrin Sunwake |
A plaintive, bleating sound echoes down the ship's corridors from the food replicator.... ;D
"We haven't left just yet. I was trying to track down any information on where our dear professor might have been jumping to next," Tam replies, the slight frown on his face indicating he hasn't found that out yet.
"And I figured that if you did need anything else, it would be best to stay in-system just in case," he says with a wink. "Yeah - we should test them a bit. It'd be a shame if it 'ported one of us into the heart of a star or something. Oh, don't give me that hurt look, it was only a joke - I'm sure they work fine." ^.^
Tamrin Sunwake |
"Good," she said with a grin, "because if you weren't sure you'd have to spend the next five hours checking all of my calculations just to be sure."
"Nah," he says as he gives her a peck on the cheek and takes the box with the Starcasters in them, "I'd just plug them into the ship's Starcaster to verify everything. I'm sneaky that way." ;D
"I'll start 'priming' these in the mess, and you can get something to eat while I do!"
Aananda |
Aananda sat in the mess consuming vast quantities of food while Tam worked on the starcasters. She looked thoughtful.
"You know," she said in between moutfuls, "I think part of our problem is that we're chasing this guy. Somehow we need to figure out where he's going to be instead of where he's been."
Aananda |
"Or" Ryo says as he returns from enjoying the knowledge he was on a planet again. "we could use the teleporters to get close to him after Ryleh finds him again."
"Well, that was why I hurried so much to finish them. Well, that and because I wanted to see if I could really do it," she added, feeling compelled to be honest about it.
"Hey!" She brightened up. "This is a great time to check my new comm system! I'll see if I can call Mom and find out if she has any more info on this guy."
Let's see....percentages......I'd say it definitely works at 'short'range (within 100 miles) and about a 50 % shot it works past that range. High numbers good.
1d100 ⇒ 35
Aananda |
Are there comms in each starcaster, or was this another project? You could always check to see if the others work.
It was a separate project. The starcasters can generate a small area of gravity and atmosphere around you should you miscalculate your arrival location, or simply want to jump to somewhere that is less than friendly to living creatures, but that and travel is pretty much their limit. I assume that there is some sort of comm unit within the ship itself, but these didn't quite function as planned. Don't worry, they will soon enough. :)
Tamrin Sunwake |
"Hmmm...well, since you made these to work on an encrypted frequency, we can try to just use one of them" as he takes his off, "and patch through the arcane subspace relay of the Prism. All we need is a range boost from the ship, so that should work for a quick data burst..."
Tam heads to a communications panel, opening it up and pulling out some of his own tools. After a few moments, he has the wristcomm patched into the panel's wiring.
"Okay - try it now!"
And try that percentile roll again ;)
Ryleh |
After a bit of a pause a staticy voice comes through.
"Yes, I hear you. How close are you to finding what you're looking for?"
Ryleh |
"Well, I can try. Just a minute."
Ryleh focuses on her mirror, adjusting the crystals to amplify the power, searching once more for the Silver.

"Well, I can try. Just a minute."
Ryleh focuses on her mirror, adjusting the crystals to amplify the power, searching once more for the Silver.
As Ryleh turns her attentions yet again to their quarry, the mirror darkens, and then she sees stars. Flying against the backdrop of those stars is a small vessel, perhaps the size of the one Aananda left in. Her vision zooms in on the forward viewing ports of the vessel, and she sees the Silver again at the controls.
Willing her vision to enter the ship, the view changes to one looking over his shoulder. The controls in front of him are a dizzying array of lights and numbers that mean nothing to Ryleh. Searching for anything that would be a clue to his whereabouts, she does notice something pop up on one of the displays. It says:
[KULAS III - ARRIVAL TIME IN ORBIT: 15 MINUTES]
As she is about to change her view, she notices something - the Silver has turned around, and is 'looking' right at her as if she were there...
What does Ryleh do?
Ryleh |
Foolish. She wasn't sure if she meant herself or the accursed Silver. She sent a sharp wave of psychic pain to him through the link he inadvertantly created and then abruptly retreated.
"Daughter. He is heading towards a place called Kulas III, arriving in minutes, 15 minutes I think. But there's a problem. He saw me watching him. He must have had some magic in place to prevent himself from being spied on."
Tamrin Sunwake |
"Kulas III....Computer? Find matches for a 'Kulas III': Star systems, planets, known space stations, whatever you can find. Feed results to the Mess terminal."
"Are you alright, Ryleh? He didn't do anything before you cut the link, did he?"

"Are you alright, Ryleh? He didn't do anything before you cut the link, did he?"
"As soon as I realized that he could see me I sent him a bad headache and cut the link. I've got a detect magic diagnostic running to make sure he didn't attach anything to me before I got away."
