did anyone manage to rid Ivar of his negative level yet?
After everyone climbs out of the longboat, Ivar pulls it up onto the beach, shifting his axe and shield so they are in easy reach he follows the team when Uraisa points out the path. Agreeing with the Druid he comments "A trail is easier to follow Uraisa, good eye! Shall we follow along? Silas do you want Oro-Tu on point? I can anchor the rear or I can be right behind Oro-Tu, whichever you want."
Silas Frey |
Silas smiles once Ivar is sorted. "Good as Ivar was looking a little feint."
He looks around. "It's probably best that we have some protection at the rear as we don't know exactly what's out here so Ivar if you're happy to head back there. Captain Mercy, where do you want to go as you've not shared much about what you know of this place?"

You might as well put away the wand as this requires a full restoration. If the party has 100 GP in diamonds or dust, Aurora has the spell prepared and can cast it. It will be 1000 GP if the level becomes permanent.
Beth Macara |
Yes, just realized about the restoration material component. Beth has not planned for that. So we can only give Ivar a little bonus to his save for when he needs it.
With Uraisa pointing the way, Beth looks at the old trail, checking if it has been used recently.

I would assume some of our party funds is in diamond dust, since it's still worth money, and a common component of things like raise dead etc, idk. Never played tracking material components if the person had the gpv of it. Are we doing that?

Samuel will export the alchemist fire to the continent (20,000 GP in platinum bars and 30,000 in diamonds and dust).
Whatever you had leftover from that and yes any material component over 1GP needs to be tracked especially diamonds and dust
brvheart |
Looking at the mule the gold is most likely mostly diamonds and dust so deduct 100 GP and decide what is gold. OK, need an order of march Silas. Should be single file here. New Roll20 map is up.
In about a half a mile the trail splits. You can go east back towards the other ship or north around the western side of the island and no, Mercy does not know exactly which way to go.
Beth Macara |
"Urasia," asks Beth from her position right behind Oro-Tu. "As you seem very perceptive, do you want to swich up the file to second Oro-tu?"
Just proposing to switch ranks in our classical exploration pattern.
brvheart |
From the top you can see a lake and in the center of the island the central volcano cone.
Beth Macara |
When they arrive to the trail split, Beth takes the time to look at the two different directions, looking to see if some people from the Lizard's ship have already passed that way.

Seems 4 is all I'm going to get for tracking rolls :)

Casting Tracking Mark at the Split. Also taking her garlic she brought from the ships galley and using it to sprinkle accross the path to keep the spawn from following.

Let Me See if can help with my maps and charts too. I also have a book with footprints too. I do think its strange a vampire can go into moving water without trouble, I hope this garlic works like its suppose to, normally they wont go past it.

keep a eye out, there be Garillions about and most recently a mix of Humanoids, but no Undead, see here, Undead usually shuffle when they walk, side effect of prior rigamortis.
Thumbing through the footprint book and showing Ivar and Uraisa
Footprints Book (ACG) This book contains hundreds of hand-drawn images of the footprints of common animals and humanoids. By consulting the book for 5 minutes while studying a set of tracks, you can attempt a DC 10 Knowledge (local) check for humanoids or a DC 10 Knowledge (nature) check for animals to identify the animal or humanoid that made the tracks. "These things? You are far too suspicious for your own good Silas. These are the tracks from the crew of that ship. They found the treasure we seek, a City of Gold, but something found them. You expect treasures to be be unguarded? Then why would I need you all? What attacked them? Don't know. Why did they scuttle their ship? Don't know that either. Just know they did. I talked to a survivor, but he is dead. So needless to say I didn't get much out of 'im"
Oro-Tu |
Oro-Tu is fine with stopping and letting Ivar interrogate mercy if needed, he doesn't like her answers, "How did the survivor end up dead, not much survivor if so."

I like the way Oro-tu thinks
Ivar works his way up beside Silas and ask quietly, not to make a stir If Mercy is not forthcoming with information, why don't we put her on point and let her lead, Why risk Oro-Tu or Uraisa if we don't need to."
Beth Macara |
Silas looks back at Beth, but decides to press on.
Mercy really is drip feeding information and she wonders why we're suspicious.
Beth returns Silas look and gives a tiny nod to acknowledge his comments and suspicion. We seem to be on the same level with this sneaky pirate
"I agree, let's follow the tracks of this crew. Let's keep our eyes open for more undead of whatever this crew encountered."

The ridge extends away from the point, falling sharply to both sides through the steaming jungle. The ridge is jagged, sometimes dropping by a hundred feet or more, or coming to a volcanic fist of stone that must be bypassed or climbed. However, the path is the equivalent of a trail. Movement is halved. You notice that occasionally the ridge is used by unshod Medium humanoids.
Beth Macara |
Beth bends over the footprints, looking for the number of toes visible in them and checking if there is an opposable thumb.
"So let me check. If I can find the toes and check the traces, I will know if they were made by Apes or not."

"What? I didn't know anything about Orcs. How much information do you think I could get out of a corpse? He was dead when I found him. I didn't make him that way. I just used a few speak with dead scrolls I managed to buy. If I told you all I knew up front what was keeping you from selling me out to Tame, huh? Tell me that? "
brvheart |
You have been travelling about a half a day. Scouts make perception and survival checks please

My word and my honor; we have a code you know and we made a contract because we are trying to trust that those we do business with will watch our backs, if not for our sakes, at least to ensure their own profits while we work for them.
Well, i have blessings to kill orcs or rage. I have holy water, fire, garlic (Necklace & Pills), Holy strike, Touch of the Spirit World, Wooden Stake on spring loaded gauntlet, Force, Silver, Good, Bashing or Slashing for Undead plus protection. Running water also works, Chopping off heads too. Just to make sure I have what I need. Now to look around again and see what I can find

The route used by the crew of the Brine Breath descends into the caldera here. The worst vegetation has yet to grow back across the route, and travel is as though via a trail.
