Gilda speaks a word and the two wolves take off for the woods, as Garrosh and then Reynaud descend into the darkness. Once they have stepped to the side of the ladder, Tony makes his descent as the other four watch their surroundings.

As Tony makes his descent, Garrosh and Reynaud eye the two darkened openings to the left and right, and the 5 arrow slots in the wall, but they do not detect any movement or sounds. Tony arrives at the bottom and turns to survey the room, calling out, "Archers!", drawing his daggers as six hobgoblins with swords rush into the room.

Above, Seir, Gilda, Belle and Brodin's heads turn in opposite directions as movement and noise in the underbrush at the tops of the rock outcroppings catch their eyes; Seir to the west, Brodin to the north and Belle to the southeast. The four of you cry out, "Ambush!" almost at the same time, spying the hobgoblins in the brush Concealment. Gilda puts her back to the stone chimney near the open trapdoor and looks to the rest for guidance. Holds her action

Combat! Garrosh and Reynaud are surprised.

Everyone failed to spot the hobgoblins prior to this, and Tony rolled quite poorly on his scouting.

One hobgoblin lands a blow with his sword on Garrosh's arm, cutting deep into the muscle, while a second manages to catch Tony in the side, slicing through the rogue's leathers and deep into his side. Belle moves to the ladder and swiftly climbs down to the floor. The hobgoblin to her left jerks his head toward her, but seeing nothing, turns back to the flail-wielding half orc. Seir moves to the trapdoor and casts a spell, surrounding himself with a shimmering, golden aura, which fades after a moment. Garrosh brings his flail to bear, crushing the skull of the humanoid in front of him. Brodin fires off two arrows taking abother two down, but now, from his vantage point, he can see no more below. Tony, ignoring Garrosh's command, tumbles to behind the hobgoblin near Reynaud, and stabbing the creature in the back. Gilda looks at Seir and Brodin, and says, "Me next?" as she sheathes her scimitar.

The hobgoblin warriors lay into Garrosh and Reynaud, but cannot get past the heavily armored warriors' defenses. From the arrowslits comes another volley of shots, but only one grazes Tony's arm.
