Belle PBP |

That's completely okay, but it means that Belle will have to stand in either the square directly below the one you just left, or one square below and one weast/left, in order to be in range for healing.
Actually the way a touch spell works is that you can deliver the touch anywhere along the way if you move. She casts the spell, runs by him delivering the touch, and then darts out to end up 2 west of Reynauld next to her buddy the fire elemental. For multi-touch spells like the protection from evil, communal, you can cast and then wander about trying to get next to as many allies as possible delivering the touch to each as you go by. I think if it is an attack you have to end your move before starting the attack, but not for beneficial spells like CMW. At least that is how I was taught it would work!

Olaf the Holy |
Nah. You're limited to doing so before or after you move. "You may take your move before casting the spell, after touching the target, or between casting the spell and touching the target.", as it goes. So no move-by touching. Sure, it's a free action, and one you don't have to do right after you cast, but it does have to happen before or after you move.

Belle PBP |

Wow. I just looked on the message boards about this and got a headache! There was one (but only one) guy that was arguing pretty persistently for allowing touch on the runs but he got overwhelmed by the others. Looks like I'm planted just north of Tessai and I need to change the way I do CLW spells :( Sorry Tessai.

Tony Tanner |

Tony makes a little bit of an arc run avoiding the first gargoyle.
But the gargoyle next to it, squaring off with Tessai, it finds 2 dagger digging in to its backside.
Dagger: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
DMG: 1d4 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 5 + (1, 6) = 14
[spoiler=Debilitating Injury]
Bewildered: The target becomes bewildered, taking a –2 penalty to AC. The target takes an additional –2 penalty to AC against all attacks made by the rogue.
Dagger 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
DMG 2: 1d4 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (1, 5) = 12
{EDIT}
CRITY McGEE: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
CRITY McDEE: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Olaf the Holy |
The rogue's blades finds purchase, right where he wants them, but it feels like there's a quite sizeable layer of the statue-thing's skin that is simply composed of rock. That wouldn't be so surprising given its appearance, except he hit it right in the joints, to counteract that. If it wanted to be able to bend its limbs, it really shouldn't have been able to be so tough right there.
Damage Reduction is shaving a considerable bit off of Tony's damage.
Two gargoyles are struck down by blades and magic. The rest continue to attack the party. They don't seem to be considering surrender as an option, which is strange. They could fly away easily, if they wanted. Instead, they pursue a battle that's already claimed half their number.
The first gargoyle turns on Tony, surprised to find daggers in its backside, courtesey of the new combatant in the frey.
3: Full attack vs. Tony
Claw: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13, 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Claw: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18, 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22, 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Gore: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10, 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
One of the gargoyles makes a small hop to get out of the sticky situation, stuck between the group's fighter and the backstabbing rogue. It then attacks the newcomer with fervor.
4: 5ft. step, and Full attack vs Tony
Claw: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26, 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Gore: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28, 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4Potential Crit
The remaining 2 continue to attack Tessai.
5: Full Attack vs Tessai
Claw: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24, 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Claw: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15, 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Gore: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15, 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Reynaud is not adjecent to any defenders.
2 potential crits on Tony.
Claw: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9, 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Gore: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24, 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
It appears that Tony has been hit by two claw attacks from the same opponent in one round. (first character for that to happen to, too) Please make a Fortitude Save, DC 16, to avoid becoming Paralyzed for 2 rounds.

Reynaud La Croix |

Reynaud is furious. His chanting stops suddenly.
Tessai!
He moves diagonally to cover Belle and Tony.
GNOME! Fight or run, I don't care which!
He then swings at gargoyle #4.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Belle PBP |

Huh. I didn't think so. Let's check up.
Just down. -5 HP, I think.
I read the wrong number. Dang. That was bad.

Belle PBP |

"Noooo."Once again Belle lays her hands on Tessai, giving her a chance to recover, then moves two south.
CMW: 2d8 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4) + 4 + 4 = 14
That was the last CMW. I have 2 CLW left and that's it. Don't even have a wand.
Hopefully the fire elemental will FINALLY hit. This is its last (3rd) round. What a disappointment it was :(

![]() |

Magnus has cast 4 spells, and last turn drank a potion, so this is the 6th round of combat
Invisibilty round 3
Magnus quickly rummages in his scroll case for a scroll of adhesive spittle which he then casts at the nearest gargoyle #4. DC 16 or be stuck to the floor

Tessai |

Tessai roars in denial - "No!" - there is a path ahead for the Paladin and her companions. It will not end before it begins - "We will not die here! Not today!"
Smite Evil on #3
"Kill this one!"
Smite, prone: 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 4 = 20 <- The +4 is from Legalistic, if it applies.
Damage if it hits: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (2, 2) + 13 = 17
--Status & Effects--
Current AC: 19 (21 vs. #5) [<-I thought you were going to apply the modifiers to their to-hit]
HP: 9/43
Protection from Evil
Bless
Smite Evil
LoH spent: 3/5
EDIT: Smite is on #3, and AC changed

Agyen the Eternal |

Focused Spiritual weapon: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 271d10 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Crit?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 121d10 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
The dagger had shimmered out of existence, but it appears again, stabbing the gargoyle in the back.
close, but I think that takes it down.
Edit: OH, and if it wasn't clear this is on number 3.

Olaf the Holy |
The party's combined efforts bring down one more gargoyle.
By the time Belle can act again, her wand's magic will have run its course, and the elemental will disappear. The same is true for Magnus' scroll, but for now, the gargoyle is rooted to the spot.
It eschew killing, in favor of attacking the warrior who just conveniently stepped into reachs of its claws.
4, rooted entangled, full attack vs. Reynaud
Claw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22, 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Claw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24, 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22, 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
It also, almost casually, dives the tips of its curled horns into Tony's chest.
Gore: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13, 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
The remaining guardians gang up on Tessai. There's definitely an urge to curl up in a ball and hope the monsters go away. There's frequent pauses in their attacks, where they're simply watching the woman, apparently enjoying their handiwork. Stopping to smell the roses, as it were.
5, Full Attack vs Tessai
Claw: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19, 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 - Bodyguard Applies, In Harm's Way
Claw: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13, 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7- Bodyguard Applies, +2AC
Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12, 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7- Bodyguard Applies, +2AC

Gore: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14, 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Reynaud's bodyguard
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

Agyen the Eternal |

The weapon shifts to the fourth gargoyle and attacks again.
Spiritual weapon: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 281d10 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Crit?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 91d10 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
If it actually confirmed it's crits, spiritual weapon would be my new favorite spell.
Agyen moves to Reynaud and touches him, and a blue light flickers around him, healing his wounds.
CLW: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Belle PBP |

Belle holds her position, hoping to prevent a flank on Raynauld and, one more time, lays a hand on the great defender.
CLW: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
"Come on guys. We can't let her death be for nothing. Finish these guys!"

Hmmm. She didn't do a move action did she? Speaking of that wand (in the other thread) and her poor warm corpse, Belle will take a move action to snatch the wand from Tessai's body. That is provided it is exposed and she didn't inconsiderately fall on it :)

Olaf the Holy |
Given that it's not specified where it is, I'd say that retrieving the wand is a standard action. Generally, picking something up that can't be construed as drawing it from your own person will be a standard action. I also don't think you can use wands of Cure without UMD. White Mage doesn't really put them on your spell list, does it? I'll have to read up on that. Either way, Agyen would be able to use it.
Edit: I spoke too soon, it seems. Agyen can't use wands of CLW either.

I was hoping it would fall under the category of "Pick up an item" which is a move action. Good point about the UMD. I'd still grab it or anything else that might be lying about in "move action reach" as a move action just to not waste the action. If not the wand, then perhaps the sword. We may be beating a quick retreat if those predicted ghouls show up.

Olaf the Holy |
Huh. That's a move action? I'd have sworn it was a standard. Regardless, I'd say that there's a difference between picking something up that's lying on the ground, and getting something out of a dead person's wrist sheath, or even their pockets. You could grab her sword as a move action, since she was actively holding that when she died. The wand, however, is stashed away somewhere, so getting at that takes a standard.

Belle PBP |

I think it is a standard action to grab something from a 'hidden' location like a backpack and a move action to grab something from your belt/sheath/scabbard, or a 'non-hidden location'. I just read the rules and it seems that's how it works. But then again it seems I'm wrong about 80% of the time so please check. Here is my reference.
Belle will grab Tessai's sword if the wand is not available! Heck, she might even use it if things get desperate enough.

Olaf the Holy |
I don't have a reference for it, tbh. I just feel like kneeling down and riffling through someone's pockets to find what you're looking for is a little more awkward and involved than say, picking up a sword that's lying on the ground, or rifling through your own pockets after something you presumably more or less know where is on your person. So I'm going to houserule/homebrew that it's a standard action if you want to take something you roughly know where is on a dead body or a dying character, such as grabbing a potion from their pockets, or removing a weapon worn in a sheath. I'll put it in the houserules section of the campaign tab.

Belle PBP |

I have no problem with that. It's really a judgment call anyway based on how accessible the object is and your ruling is completely fair. The whole grab the wand thing was an afterthought that came out of our dialog in the discussion thread anyway and whether I grabbed the wand or not may end up being moot. If we do end up booking it out of here the sword is more valuable anyway and may turn out to be the better choice in the long run.

Dismayed at the death of Tessai, Magnus acts. Calling upon his innate sense of the dimensions, he slides through them to a spot 15' south of Tessai and casts burnings hands should cover #5 and #8 - and cremate the remains of Tessai
damage: 4d4 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 3) = 13
