Garrosh Saurfang |

"Let's try this again" - the half-orc presses on, his anger beginning to simmer.
Trying to maul the one next to me.

Heavy Silver Flail Crit?: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Additional damage if it crits: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Oh my... :D

Belle PBP |

Hey, my post got eaten. Try this again...
Belle would like to go in the door to the east that the hobgob came out of if it is open. If it is, let me know what I see so I may submit a standard action.
If she is not able to go through she will head west over by Tony in hopes that he is able to open the door on that side.

GM Hands of Fate |

Belle should be able to move her icon, but she is also threatened by a hobgoblin. She takes a 5 foot step to the doorway and looks in. As Reynaud's ioun torch is the only light I know of, and it is blocked by the wall, she can't see much farther than a couple feet into the room. Ther eis a wall on the south side, but to the north and east it extends into darkness. With her lowlight, she can just make out a rough cavern which disappears to the south. If she want's to move farther, she will take an AoO, so will need to either withdraw or use Acrobatics to avoid.

Belle is invisible and sneaky.
stealth: 1d20 + 4 + 20 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 20 = 27
Though it seems she is having a bad day. She goes around the corner and summons a fire elemental in the room using her wand (after a 1 round delay of course)

GM Hands of Fate |

Belle is invisible and sneaky.
Right! Sorry! I need to make a transparent Belle icon...
Garrosh's flail smahes into the hobgoblin's head, shattering bone, and showering the half orc with skull fragments, blood and grey matter.
Up next, Reynaud, Tony and Gilda.

Garrosh Saurfang |

We're not playing Gilda per se, right?
The half orc grunts in approval after pulverizing the hobgoblin's head.

Tony, the Tanner |

Tony moves south, and where he expects to be out of sight of the arrow shooting hobgoblins, and tries to sneak up on and around them.
Basically going 10' south and stealthing before continuing the move, to scout around - not sure how far Tony can move with this, so did not change his position in Roll20. But he will try to go 5' further south and peer around the corner.
Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17

GM Hands of Fate |

OK, Moved you to the corner so you can see
Gilda Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13 for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 damage if hit.
Hobgoblin Sgt Attack Reynaud (Cleaving): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 damage if hit.

GM Hands of Fate |

Reynaud and Gilda step up and swing at the remaining hobgoblin. Reynaud's strike draws a deep gash in the creature's arm, but still it fights. It yells something out as it steps back toward the doorway behind it. Those close to the wall, Gilda and Belle, here the unmistakable sound of blades being unsheathed. Tony sees 4 more of the humanoids coming out of a rough opening in the worked stone room, two head toward the door, while two others torn toward him and snarl.
Belle finishes summoning the elemental into the room before her, illuminating the rough stone walls of the cave with the ruddy firelight. It extends out of sight to the south.
Up next, all y'all.

Belle PBP |

Belle commands the elemental to head behind the wall and engage and she follows it. It uses up its full move no no combat this round, as does Belle.

The three arrows strike the hobgoblin sergeant squarely, and the creature silently slumps to the ground. As Belle rounds the corner where the hobgoblins hid and shot, she sees four bows on the ground next to the wall and a couple barrels of arrows. The four guards with swords drawn are heading the other way, two appear to be looking toward a door in the next room, while the other two are looking to their right with looks of alarm on their faces.
Up Next: Seir, Garrosh, Tony, Reynaud, Gilda

Garrosh Saurfang |

The half orc nods and moves forward, readying an attack for the first hobgoblin who dare to close with him - "Come fools" - he snarls.
Radied Heavy Flail Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Damage if it hits: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22

GM Hands of Fate |

Seir, are you attaching the light to an item on yourself, or a location?
Gilda joins the group, but faces the dark opening behind them, to make sure nothing more emerges.

GM Hands of Fate |

Tony’s dagger strikes true but does not catch the creature by surprise. Instead of piercing the humanoid’s throat, the blade catches the creature in the shoulder. The rest of the group moves up to where Tony and Garrosh stand.
The wounded hobgoblin snarls something in a language that only Brodin understands, draws his sword as he moves to the door and throws it open. Two of the others bolt down the hall, while the fourth moves to stand with his wounded battle brother, drawing his blade as well and forming a defensive wall.
Up next: All y'all

Belle PBP |

The fire elemental obeys his commands and rushes forward to engage the nearest hobgoblin.

Belle just hurries over to where she will be behind the others.

GM Hands of Fate |

Belle, correct me if I am wrong, but vanish is gone now? It's been 5 rounds.

Garrosh Saurfang |

Garrosh growls and presses onward, towards the hobgoblins in front of him.
If there are any others behind the arrow slits, he will not leave his back exposed, and instead head at them.
"Enough talk" - he rumbles while swinging at the one in front of him - "Surrender. You will not have a second chance!"
Heavy Flail Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Damage if it hits: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20

Tony, the Tanner |

Tony follows close in Garrosh's heels, veering into his left to make sure the area is safe but also to guarantee they are not flanked.
Maybe it is best if you move Tony GM HoF - he will be circling the wall, then heading up in a general direction to pass further a ways behind the elemental. Other actions will depend on whether he sees more hobgoblins. I can't move him over the 'fog of war'

GM Hands of Fate |

there are no arrow slits in this hallway or room. Tony moves 45 feet into the room where the hobgoblin snipers were, and does not encounter anything.
Garosh rushes the wounded hobgoblin and brains him with the heavy flail.

GM Hands of Fate |

There are no arrow slits in the hallway where Belle is standing, or in the room with the door where Garrosh stands. The room that Tony is looking in to has 5 arrow slits on the north wall, which, presumably, look out at the room you entered from. North is up.

Belle PBP |

Belle, correct me if I am wrong, but vanish is gone now? It's been 5 rounds.
Here's what I got:
cast vanish, draws a wand
descends ladder
cast CLW on Tony
goes through door in east and creates elemental
moves west
retreats
The last 5 actions were done while invisible so I guess she pops back afterwards. Or does she become visible before she moves? In either case she is visible now.

GM Hands of Fate |

I'll say it ends after her move. It doesn't really matter. Just wanted to make sure I was counting right.

Belle PBP |

It is annoyingly difficult to track these things and I run into this issue in any game where duration is short enough to expire in a single combat. One thing that often helps is to do a round summary and include the round number.

GM Hands of Fate |

Round 5 (6 including Surprise) Mid-Round Update
Belle moves to join the protection of the rest of the party as her vanish spell wears off. She commands the fire elemental to attack the closest hobgoblin, which it does, but it is easily avoided. Garrosh rushes up, demanding surrender, even as his heavy flail smashes into one of the hobgoblin's skull, splattering blood, bone and grey matter. Tony moves to make sure they are not flanked.
Up Next: Seir, Reynaud, Brodin

GM Hands of Fate |

I'll GMPC Brodin, and give him a nudge
Brodin's shoots the hobgoblin: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 if hit.
Seir and Reynaud move up to the remaining hobgoblin. the unbreakable fighter takes a clumsy swing and almost loses his grip on his weapon as it slams into the floor. Brodin steps around the corner and unleashes an arrow into the melee, but the arrow strikes the doorframe and shatters. "The other two are going for backup!" Gilda moves into the darkene dopening, through the empty cavern and emerges in the room with Tony, behind the arrow slits. "No more in here!
The sole remaining hobgoblin remains steadfast in a fully defensive posture and snarls at you.
Up next, all y'all, in any order.

Belle PBP |

The elemental vanishes and with it the light source. So Belle casts Dancing Lights and sends them on ahead to the limit of her view. She will keep them positioned ahead of the group. She then moves up next to Garrosh. Note: I pirated the elemental and am using it as a dancing lights thingie until it is replaced.
"Where did they go? They sure run fast!"

GM Hands of Fate |

Reynaud's blade would have struck the humanoid had not the creature been defending as well as it was.
Up next, Garrosh, Tony, Seir, Brodin and Gilda, in whatever order you like.

Belle PBP |

"Gilda, we may be at this for a while. If you have any spells to strengthen attacks or defenses for a while, you might want to cast it. "

Garrosh Saurfang |

"What are you doing fool? Drop your weapon and start talking, or you will die where you stand!" - the half-orc growls.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
zzzzzz....

GM Hands of Fate |

The hobgoblin suddenly looks quite nervous with the big half-orc standing next to him with his buddy's brains and skull crusting his flail.
Brodin nocks an arrow and repeats Brodin's words in a language none of you understand, while Seir raises his weapons, ready to strike the creature down if it should do anything else than what Garrosh suggests.
Gilda steps up behind Reynaud/ "My magical abilities are only in their larval stage. Unfortunately, none of my prayers to the Green Ones prepared me for this situation." She scans the group for injuries
Up next: Tony

Tony Tanner II |

Tanner, dagger in one hand, runs up to the hobgoblin's exposed back and with his palm on the hilt, drives the point of blade into the small of its back. He gives the dagger a slight twist, so it sinks up to the hilt.
Tony was originally going to do a double move to breeze past the hobgoblin and scout ahead, counting on his allies to hold its attention.
But with Garrosh Saurfang threatening and an easy flank, gotta go for that backstab!

Dagger, +3 Melee Damage Roll: 1d4 ⇒ 4 plus Sneak Attack Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4) = 7

GM Hands of Fate |

Tony rushes up to the hobgoblin and slides his dagger easily between two of the hobgoblin's vertebrae, severing his spinal cord. The creature's legs go limp and it collapses. As it does, Tony's dagger slices easily through flesh and bone and vein. The humanoid's mouth opens and closes, but no sound escapes, as it's venal blood pools beneath it.
Yes, Tony just stabbed a hobgoblin in the back who was going to surrender on it's next turn. I'll let the Warpriest of Ragathiel and the Priest of Sarenrae react accordingly.
If you want to pursue, I'll keep the initiative order up. Otherwise, we can drop out of order.
In other news, Gilda leveled.

Belle PBP |

"Let's catch up before they hole up somewhere dangerous or the topside brutes come down after us and we get caught in a vice."

Tony Tanner II |

"I was distracted," Tony replies, "Where'd they go? How many are left?"
He flicks the knife down, spattering blood on the floor, then slides the knife back into its sheathe, taking out his crossbow. Checking to see its loaded and ready to fire, he holds the weapon in two hands and glances down the lit passage the hobgoblin had been guarding.
Are the 'top-side brutes' the ghouls? Or more hobgoblins?
How many hobgoblins fled?

Belle PBP |

"From the number of arrows that came at us there were about 10 up top. And inside the lair? Who can tell, certainly more than that, though we haven't actually SEEN many of the sneaky bastards."

Garrosh Saurfang |

"What is this Tony? A joke?" - Garrosh growls at his companion - "He was about to surrender and spill his guts about the place"- he presses on - "And he had no chance with all of us surrounding him. So what was that for? Stabbing a defeated hobgoblin in the back?! " - and stands there waiting for an answer.
