Added a marker for your location on the Roll20 map. We're also cutting to this first encounter, though I hadn't really made it that clear. Sorry for that. You're also traveling east now, because I'm making mistakes in my description. The sun should be behind you.
As the end of the day comes upon you, Gabr manages to find suspicious tracks ahead. They appear similar to wolf tracks, which may explain why you haven't found any game today.
Gabr Mos'ata |
Up ahead of the group, Gabr is not so far off that Jean's sweet voice and merry tunes do not reach his ears. The sound lends an extra spring to his step and his chest swells at the joy of it all: the bright sun in the cloudless sky, the lush beauty of the vegetation so different from what he is used to, the companionship, the adventure. It's been easy going so far, little more than a lark in the woods, but the sight of the peculiar tracks is a stark reminder that he's headed toward an ominous place rife with danger.
He pauses and, scanning the forest about them all, allows the others to gather around. "These look a little like wolf tracks but they are suspicious. Do any of you recognize what creature makes this print?"
Gabr Mos'ata |
Gabr rises early to perform his morning ablutions and to pay his respects to The Master of the First Vault. He prepares a morning meal and greets the others as they each rise in turn from their slumber.
"Fortune smiled upon us and no beasts troubled us through the night. Perhaps we will catch sight of them today or maybe they have found tastier prey instead."
Ran Voder |
Ran smirks at Magnus. "Who has so much free time they're out here telling lies to wolves?" He shrugs at Gabr's comment. "I'd be just as happy if we never saw them. We'll have enough things trying to kill us once we get to this place, why beg for more trouble when our plate's already full? Just seems greedy to me. Leave the wolves to the deer, I say."
GM Watcher |
The next few days go without incident, the wolf tracks fading from view on the first day. Game is plentiful for the next two days, a pleasant turn of events from the previous days.
With night quickly arriving on the fifth day of travel, the darkened landscape may force you to pitch tents earlier than you would like, though your estimations show that you will not be delayed on your journey.
Please use the new map on Roll20 to set up your campsite

Tark and Magnus:
You manage to hear the crunching of grass, and with a quick glance are able to spot 11 more wolves, two of them significantly larger than the others. They are not a size category larger. They seem to be trying to ambush you.
Jean and Theragul:
You manage to notice the wolves, though somehow the larger two escape your gaze.
Please roll initiative. All save Ran, and perhaps Gabr, are able to act in the surprise round.
Tark Boulderbreaker |
Surprise round
"Them are just beasts" - Tark growls - "Stand fast, and let'em come lads" - holding his weapon well in front of him, ready to strike at the first that approaches.

GM Watcher |
Initiative(Wolves):: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Three wolves, mouths dripping in anticipation of meat, charge in towards the dwarf. Quick enough to beat the dwarf's preparation, the three try to bite and claw their prey apart.
Attack Roll(Charge): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Attack Roll(Charge): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Attack Roll(Charge): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
One set of claws and teeth slips through the dwarven mail, tearing at flesh and trying to bleed you, wrench you from your feet! One hit
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Trip Attempt: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
However, though the bite wraps around your leg, your axe blow shoves the creature back, its head split open by your mighty blow.
---
The other wolves charge in, eyes aflame as they split their pack among the prey. Three approach the mage, flanking to the left to avoid the armored one, while another three run down upon the Qlippoth-spawn. The two greater beasts move to the sides, looking for an opening to tear a bloody throat apart.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Theragul Halfblood |
Could Theragul take a 5' step towards the fire to be out of the threatened area? If not, he will use his action in the surprise round to attack Wolf 12 as follows:
Bastard sword w/Destructive Smite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Jean D'Fleur |
I readied an attack as well. It looks like we beat their initiative, so there should be an AoO before they got next to us to bite as well.
Also, I'm still not seeing Gabr's token. Was it made visible to all players?
Jean twirls his weapon in a blinding flurry. He orients the flat of the blade, unwilling to slaughter these creatures wholesale if he can avoid it.
Using Blade of Mercy. All hits do nonlethal damage.
AoO (Wolf 8): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7damage: 1d10 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 = 15
Readied Attack (Wolf 8): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15damage: 1d10 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 = 15
This round's attack (Wolf 10): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14damage: 1d10 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 = 12
Magnus Tate |
Um...There appears to be 2 posts detailing the wolves attacks, I presume we ignoore the second?
To answer your question, No, I would not be casting defensively so I get an AoO on the wolves (directed against the one charging me). I have also determined that the best place to take a 5' step to is where the fire is...So instead I have moved myself to directly behind jean. One of the Wolves still gets an AoO on me there
AoO with longspear: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Well, that's a miss. Are we doing fumble rules?
After inexpertly jabbing at the oncoming wolves, Magnus extricates himself from the one that attacked him, limps back and with a mutter of arcane language, lets loose on his signature spell, spraying a cone of fire upon the wolves.
15' cone from the corner to the left of jean. That should cover wolves 4, 6 and 9, but wolf 9 will get an AoO on him
Damage for Burning Hands: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4, 4) + 3 = 15
DC15 Reflex for half damage
Ran Voder |
As the others battled wolves, Ran battled his bedroll and blanket, finally managing to struggle up and out of them as the others held off the hungry beasts. He leaps up and flourishes his whip at the wolves. "Ha ha!"
Realizing the wolves weren't going to be cowed by his theatrics, he instead flicks a hand out at the closest wolves, tossing what looks like a lump of butter at them.
Still no token for Ran? To account for him not being attacked, I'm assuming he's in the square one down and one right from Theragul with no adjacent wolves. He'll cast Grease on wolves 10, 11, and 12.
