Aerodus Whiteblade |

Was thinking about the fate of poor Jask... and wondered...
Why not cast Hide from Undead on the Party?
School abjuration; Level cleric 1
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, DF
Range touch
Targets one touched creature/level
Duration 10 min./level (D)
Saving Throw Will negates (harmless); see text; Spell Resistance yes
Undead cannot see, hear, or smell creatures warded by this spell.
Even extraordinary or supernatural sensory capabilities, such as
blindsense, blindsight, scent, and tremorsense, cannot detect or
locate warded creatures. Nonintelligent undead creatures (such as
skeletons or zombies) are automatically affected and act as though
the warded creatures are not there. An intelligent undead creature
gets a single Will saving throw. If it fails, the subject can’t see any of
the warded creatures. If it has reason to believe unseen opponents
are present, however, it can attempt to find or strike them. If a
warded creature attempts to channel positive energy, turn or
command undead, touches an undead creature, or attacks any
creature (even with a spell), the spell ends for all recipients.
Sure.. they probably knew the party was coming.. but at least had a chance to be invis.
It's a shame... because Aerodus actually enjoyed talking with the old man... unlike Gelik.

Howard: "And now it looks like the welter-weight wizard has tenaciously tagged the promiscuous package protruding paladin who precariously pretends to pummel one of the Ghoul Queen's rag-tag ghouls into ponderous sumission.
A wicked right hook from one of the ghouls appears to have had petrifying effect on our welter-weight champion sending him to the mat while the Ghoul Queen obvuscates the view of our audience, plunging the ring into impenatrable darkness."
*sigh* There'll never be another sports announcer like Mr Cosell..

Aerodus Whiteblade |

So... taking bets anyone? Naked paladin vs two ghouls in darkness and melee?
Another question.. (although with a few good rolls and a few bad ones will be inconsequential)
But as smite reads: (60 CRB.): "...As a swift action, the paladin chooses one target within sight to smite..."
Since Aerodus is unable to see any of his opponents, that mean they are all immune to being smote?

![]() |

Hmmm... that's an interesting one. Technically, RAW, you're right - blind Paladins can't smite. Personally, I think I'll fall back on the way Champions used to deal with this stuff, and rule that Aerodus needs to locate the object of his smite with a 'targeting sense'. For Aerodus that's sight or touch (i.e. he can activate smite if he grabs the target).

Shisa LeCroix |

Woo! Got me some paizocon tickets... now for the fun part.
Airfare and hotels :(
Anyone else planning on attending this year?
I wish.. last gaming convention I went to was Origins '81 (or '82) in Baltimore. Spent way too much money on stuff for Morrow Project and Squad Leader's 'GI Anvil of Victory' when it got released. o.0
Good luck and hope you get into at least one good game while you're there.

Of course if she can cast Darkness more than once a day, we're screwed.

Shisa LeCroix |

Yup.. their 4 vs our 6, half of which are naked and hurt. This will prove interesting. On the bright side.. somewhere we had a res scroll.. heh.
All in favor or running like a little halfling for the rope? hah!
Aero, you could always make a break for it and marshall all your cannibal warriors to come do a sweep. You are da king.. unless Taki has taken over the throne and is waiting for us to pop our heads out so she can put is in the pot..
Personally, I blame Geezu.. Geezer.. Weezer.. um.. the bird guy ;) It's probably his fault. After all.. he DID throw a dagger at my back.

Aerodus Whiteblade |

Pezcock is the bird guy. We could make a run for it and come back.... (or at least retreat from the darkness area).
Can use raise dead scroll on Jask... (if we only had a divine caster with raisedead on spell list)...
Aerodus however has no idea where we are... or where the exit is... (although hopefully can get that fixed)

![]() |

Maybe she'll dismiss the darkness so that her minions could seeeee...Yeah, I got nothing.

Aerodus Whiteblade |

Well.. it is only black/white vision, so maybe they can't tell if half the party is bleeding out and will be unable to be subject to the ghoulification?
Does Marik know which way is the exit? or that they came in?
If we combine Aerodus's Paladin sense, and someone else's knowledge of where the heck the party came in from, we should be able to determine where we are in relation to both the dungeon, and where the ghoul crew are setup. (Whether they are blocking the way down, standing next to the party by the 'ghoul pods', or blocking the exit back up).
Although if anyone asks Aerodus, it's either due to divine intervention, or the ghouls are afraid of getting smote with his great club.

Shisa LeCroix |

Well.. it is only black/white vision, so maybe they can't tell if half the party is bleeding out and will be unable to be subject to the ghoulification?
Well.. Shisa's not sure of how / if they can see.. she just knows that 'she' can't and last time didn't fare so well for her. So.. play dead until it passes and maybe they won't notice she's awake..and pissed.
Although if anyone asks Aerodus, it's either due to divine intervention, or the ghouls are afraid of getting smote with his great club.
Well.. "great" isn't the adjective that I'd use.. Remember, I was awake when Taki did her magic thing the first night.. ;) I promised her I'd keep your secret. *innocent grin*

Shisa LeCroix |

Um.. maybe. Ishi still has a weapon.. albeit in a pile as well as Marik..
Have rock will sneak streak heh :)
Here she comes, look at that, look at that
There she goes, look at that, look at that
And she ain't wearin' no clothes
Oh, yes, they call her the Streak
Look at that, look at that
Sneakiest thing on two feet

Tony Nedraid |

If only we could learn to work as a team...
Like, like Maverick in "Top Gun"
*Salutes as "Highway to the Danger Zone" sounds in the background and the flag unfurls behind him lit by floodlights...*

Shisa LeCroix |

Is it an evil act to unknowingly aid a fugitive of justice? (Possibly chaotic?)
First you summon kraken.. then seduce an underage local girl, not to mention call up the undead.. and lopping off the cheiftain's head, (after he was dead mind you) and NOW you're worrying about helping a fugitive? :)
See Aero.. turn to the dark side.. we have cookies!

Aerodus Whiteblade |

Any Possible and I mean POSSIBLE, infractions on Aerodus's part (you forgot plotting/planning to murder a local deity!) Are all protected/covered actions listed in the Paladin's Code, specifically chapter 2, titled... "The local law, and why you supercede it" subsection 4: "Item's covered in the quest for good", where it lists the full length of immunities that the paladin is bestowed upon for taking up the Law and the Good.
Not to be confused with chapter 3: "Companions", subtitled, "those walking/talking/stealing/law breaking liabilities."
Now that he thinks of it... Aerodus knows why Ishirou, Jask and Gelik are here; pretty sure the party all knows why Aerodus is.
Now the question starts to come up... why did YOU get on the boat?? ;)

Shisa LeCroix |

Now, we all know that Paladins have some immunities from pillage and sorts, but Honestly your honor, taking advantage of a minor, albeit one with pointy teeth (while covered in goo from the quicksand mind you..) is just a wee bit too far. At least they could have bathed first, I mean seriously.. eew. As you can see.. I have the dirt on him fair and square.
Additionally, your honour, I must protest his lopping off the cheiftain's head, even though the chieftain was dead.. when he would not allow me similar enjoyment on one mere cannibal. Cannibal being still alive not withstanding. Such an injustice mind you.
Plus.. we didn't run into kraken until he called them forth whilst we were still aboard ship, nor did we run into undead until said time that he summoned them on the beach and in the cavern. I must submit that these are evil doings and more in keeping with the dark side.
As for chapter 3 of the Paladin's Code.. I must protest its admission as evidence. Besides, everyone knows that Chapter 3 won't.. er.. doesn't exist. *Gives the judge an innocent smile while trying to tear pages out of a book behind her back.*
As for my reasoning for hopping on this particular ship.. I must plead the fifth.. at least until such time as the Statute of Limitations in Cheliax has passed in regards to items procured from minor nobility when said nobility inadvertently failed to provide sufficient permissions. A mere oversight on their part you know.

Aerodus Whiteblade |

As for planning the Mother Thrunefang fight... how many people have ranged weapons? I think Marik has a crossbow, (although with no one having precise shot will make getting that -4 hurt!) Gelik has a bow.
Trying to think of how to minimize damage to the party via her negative channels (which may be reduced if she had to heal back up this morning!)
There is always the... rush in, flank and everyone stab her as fast as possible!!
Aerodus will (obviously) be smiting giving him +3 hit +4 dmg and +3 AC/CMD
Bringing his combat stats to.. 19 HP, 19 AC +5 hit, +4dmg (+3 str/hit for melee). Weapons: Throwing axe (x1), Longspear, quarterstaff.

Aerodus Whiteblade |

Hmm, just thought a crazy plan. To negate her main party danger (besides you know, the claw/claw/bite all with paralysis attached...), the unholy symbol...
Can do either grapple (negating her AoO, making it difficult to cast), go for pin. Or sunder the unholy symbol.. or somehow get it away from her.
Should keep her from both channeling, and casting spells (that require a divine focus) leaving us with a mean nasty ghoul (with whatever natural, supernatural, buffs) she already has.
According to Core (pg 40 first print)
(Su): Regardless of alignment, any cleric
can release a wave of energy by channeling the power of
her faith through her holy (or unholy) symbol. This energy
can be used to cause or heal damage, depending on the
type of energy channeled and the creatures targeted.
Just going to hurt for whoever is going for it, ((although we could potentially range trip, (don't know if Marik has grease)), to get her prone and give her that -4 to attack and -4 to AC/CMD.
She could also have another darkness prepared... in which case it will get REALLY ugly REALLY fast.

Just going to hurt for whoever is going for it, ((although we could potentially range trip, (don't know if Marik has grease)), to get her prone and give her that -4 to attack and -4 to AC/CMD.
Used it already. Down to just cantrips now.

Shisa LeCroix |

Question.. I know this native spear is probably nothing more than a sharpened (and maybe fire hardened) stick..
Is there a possibility of stabbing the ghoul with it.. and NOT pulling it back out to use as a leverage thing.. so if it does go dark, at least ONE of us would know where she is.. (at the other end of the stick..)? Kind of like using it as a gaff. Stab..hold shaft in one hand with the shaft couched under the arm and stab with the other hand type of thing.

![]() |

Alas, this being Pathfinder, any such cunning combat moves are Feats...
... On the other hand, a more vanilla grapple could be a good idea (although the whole claws and paralysis thing could be an issue - or just the claws in Shisa's case). If you grapple in the surprise round, when she's flat-footed, then she won't get the usual AoO due to using a grapple without having the Improved Grapple Feat. That's presupposing you get the drop on her ghoulish majesty, of course...

Aerodus Whiteblade |

Yaep.. Sans invisibilty, it looks to be a very rough to get a surprise round on her.
Would probably have to be a go first round before her to get in and grapple. (And win initiative!) Or delay (if don't beat the ghoul on iniative) and have someone else eat the AoO, and hope she doesn't have combat reflexes!!!
chance to act (specifically, before your first regular turn in
the initiative order), you are f lat-footed. You can’t use your
Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) while flat-footed.
