PbP GameDay 3 PFS 6-02: The Silver Mount Collection (3-7) (Inactive)

Game Master Beckett

The esteemed Blakros family, famous for their museum in Absalom, (but more importantly that this is at least the 5th time they have called on the Society's help after unleashing . . . something with), receives a large shipment of artifacts from Numeria but fears that the ever-vigilant Technic League will attack to reclaim its "stolen" property. When they request the help of Pathfinders to help guard the collection, the PCs discover that the Technic League is the least of their worries.

Asami lashes out with her glaive yet again, but is unable to gain purchase on the constructs thick armor as Kyroden swings his mace menacingly in the air. In another flurry of arrows, Jory sinks a couple of arrows into various grooves and joints of the construct, but neither of which go too deeply.

And yep, this is a CR 6 encounter, yay! Like I said somewhere around here, this is a notoriously difficult encounter, especially for the first one of the scenario.

Okay! I doubt Leil will be posting before midnight since they're playing Carrion Crown right now, so let's get those constructs out of the way, yea?

The robot over Leil looks down at the prone woman who has just regained consciousness and jabs it's spear down at the groggy woman. At the last minute, she is able to move out of the way of the electrified tip of the spear, but just barely.

On the other side of the room, the other construct seems to halt in it's tracks for a moment, all of it's scratches and dent's repairing themselves and the arrows being ejected out of the gaps between it's armored plates. Just as suddenly, it turn's it's gaze back to the dwarf with the bow.

Party's up! Critters will act again on Sunday night(ish). Dunno about the whole smelling salts on the unconscious and near death fighter next to the intelligent construct thing, but hey! Looks like it kinda worked! For now!

Aww, my post got eaten somehow.

In another hail of arrows, Jory manages to barely sink another arrow a spot between two sections of armor plating of the construct next to him as Asami waves her glaive threateningly at it. Azeban moves into the corner to figure out why they're attacking, but can't seem to sense any sort of enchantment guiding the constructs. Perhaps they're just doing what they're programmed to do...

Azeban starts an ominous chant and dark mist starts to gather south of the first construct, growing in time with the sorcerer's hand movements. It steadily rises until they gather at one point, a being of shadow forming in an instant. It is humanoid, with bat-like wings, but any details are lost in its dark form, indistinct. Only the creature's black teeth and claws are clear, but even those are shadowed.

Casting Silent Image. Spellcraft DC to identify is 17, failure by 5 or more means belief that it is Summon Monster VI. Illusion is a Shadow Demon. Will DC 15 to disbelieve when interacted with.

It hovers in the air behind the first construct, silent, before moving with a strange weightless grace. It outright ignores the construct before it and passes by the second to flank it, seemingly unconcerned by any intention of attack.

The shadow demon will attempt to trigger their AoOs, moving by both constructs. I've marked the path with the square being the end point.

Jory sees the spell and appreciates the cunning of the mage--he hopes the constructs can sense the shadowy form.

He retreats out of the building to get some distance. The golems did not have any missile weapons he could see. From a distance, he could pick them off at his leisure as long as he had enough arrows.

Assuming that -3 in that attack roll is my energy resistance, than it should really be -5 since I have electric resistance 5.

I'm fairly certain it shouldn't be dealing that much damage even with resistance but ok.

Asami drops her glaive as a free action, swift action uses Lay on Hands, and takes out her rope (I think its a move action?) before attempting to grapple the nearest construct.

Unsure what the correct role here is. Is the rope an improvised weapon etc etc.

Lay on Hands: 1d6 + 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 2 + 1 = 10

I heal 10.

Silver Mount Collection Map | Beacon Below Map

It's -3 because there was only 3 electrical damage. The d6 was the electrical damage, so the only way for them to do any electrical damage to you is to roll a 6 on the d6. The d8 is the spear damage, the +5 comes from their strength, feats, weapon bonuses, etc., and the +4 from power attacking. That's why it was only -3. If I rolled a 4, it would've been a -4, instead, or a -5 if I rolled a 5 or 6, and so on. Basically I just added the minus after I saw previewed what the roll ended up being.

Pulling the rope out would provoke an Attack of Opportunity (unless you have a handy haversack), as well, and yes, it would be a move action, so are you sure you want to pull the rope out right next to the construct?

I'm not really sure what you want to do with the rope, right now, though... generally you use it after you pin your target (grappling) to tie them up (combat maneuver check at -10 against a pinned opponent). So I'm guessing you're just getting the rope ready, and would make a normal grapple check. If you're bothering to get the rope out.

Standard concentration to have the shadow demon illusion running another route to just annoy and hopefully trigger AoOs and move action edging outside.

Holding firm concentration on the illusion, Azeban has enough presence of mind to say to Kyroden, "Move when they are distracted!"

As the shadow demon begins to rush menacingly against the constructs, claws darting out and, it seems, barely missing in the demon's haste as Azeban slowly moves outside, keeping the entire thing in sight.

Kyroden will use his healing hex on himself. healing 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7. Then he will move himself by Karos.

The constructs completely ignore the shadow demon, and instead focus their efforts on bringing down the alchemist as he makes a bee-line for Karos.

Assuming you went in a route that didn't provoke multiple AoO's from each of them since your last movement just has you running straight over to Karos' side...

The northernmost construct jabs Kyroden as he's given an opening and brings the alchemist down with a large hole in his side.

Karos and Asami both stand, mouth agape as Kyroden falls to the constructs, unable to believe what is going on.

One of the constructs takes a position south of Karos and jabs at the gunslinger, missing him. The other construct takes up a position on the other side and takes advantange of the flank and is able to pierce the gunslingers side with a vicious strike.

So, I have just been made aware that all Online PFS play has been made illegal, through a new inadvertent ruling. I plan on continuing on in hopes that this will be fixed, but as it currently stands, as far as I can tell, unless you can hand me a physical copy of your character sheets and all Chronicle Sheets, Online PFS play is now illegal. Even Dropbox is a NoGo. Of all of my current games, I have 1 player out of maybe 30 that I could get a physical Character and all Chronicle Sheets from right now.

Now, I'm not trying to cause a panic, or anything, but at the same time, I think it might be a good idea to get in contact with your local Venture Officers let them be aware of this and hopefully deal with it. I've already Emailed Jesse Davis (online VC). And again, I plan on continuing with my Online games, as this seems like both a hasty decision made without looking at all the sides and also not intended to make Online Play illegal or unofficial.

Benjamin Falk wrote:

Chris Mortika made that point before, there are many people who´s handwriting is just a mess. Some of those are also very special at keeping documents or organizing them, but still want to play more complicated characters with lots of attacks/buffs/stuff.

You make the investment to buy the books and herolab, be welcome to use both. Just stick by the rules, meaning own what you play and have the legal resources at hand if necessary.

As written in the guide if you play at a table, please bring printed chronicles. It´s fair to bring copies of the chroncles and not carry around the originals i guess.

thejeff wrote:

I don't understand the point of requiring physical chronicles, especially if copies are acceptable. Apparently it is, or will be, the rule, but what's the advantage?

If you have a boon on a sheet that is required to be crossed off when used, it's hard for the GM to do so if it's on your tablet.
Mike Brock wrote:

LINK HERE

The thread itself was locked the same day that this ruling was made, and as far as I can tell, no mention of how terrible this would be for Online play has been made. I could be wrong, and I'd love to see a link showing how this is false. :(

Ok, everyone. We are getting near the end of the game, so I'd like to have everyone repost (and please recheck) their info for reporting and Chronicle Sheets, and repost it here.

It's located in the Recruitment thread near the end, but please recheck the info and copy it here.

Once the game is over, I'll be happy to answer any questions people might have about the scenario, and also to I'd really appreciate any sort of feedback or criticism (good or bad) on how you felt the game ran. Honestly. I always ask this in hopes of improving, and it is not going to hurt my feelings if you didn't like something, or even the way I ran, but as my intent is always to have fun and help everyone else to have fun, I'd like to know better ways to do it and what wasn't (or really was) liked.

You have to choose...

boons:

Adopted Weapon Training: You have spent an extended period of time training in a culture other than your own, and as a result, you have learned that population’s weapon styles to the exclusion of all others. You gain the weapon familiarity racial trait of one of the following races: dwarf, elf, gnome, halfling, or half-orc. This specialization comes at a price, and you suffer a –1 penalty on attack rolls made with manufactured weapons other than those granted by any weapon familiarity racial traits you possess. You ignore this penalty when using a weapon that benefits from any Weapon Focus feat or weapon training class feature you may have.

Ancestral Ally: Golarion’s many cultures have traditions of animal husbandry and cooperation that date back millennia, and you have embraced one of your people’s favored companion creatures. If you have the divine bond or mount class feature, instead of choosing an animal companion from the list provided in the class description, you may instead call a mount from the list below so long as you are a member of the corresponding race. If the animal companion statistics for your race’s mount are found in a source beyond the Core Assumption, the source is listed below. You must bring a copy of the listed book to all games in which you use the selected animal companion as though access to the animal companion came from the Additional Resources list.

If an asterisk follows an animal companion option listed below, the animal already appears on the list provided by your class description, and you are at least 4th-level, you may spend 5 Prestige Points to strengthen your bond with that type of animal. This increases your effective druid level as one higher when determining the animal companion’s bonus HD, natural armor bonus, Strength and Dexterity bonuses, bonus tricks, and special abilities. This boon cannot increase your effective druid level more than one level above your actual character level.

Dwarf: badger*, boar
Elf: bird*, elk (Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 3)
Gnome: badger*, giant weasel (Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 4)
Halfling: dog*, ram (Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 2)
Half-Elf: A half-elf may choose from the elf and human lists.
Half-Orc: camel*, bear; a half-orc may also choose from the human list.
Human: bird*, horse*

Custom Order: You have a special contract with an ammunition crafter, and you are able to order small batches of specialty ammunition as a result. Choose either a +1 or +2 ranged weapon enchantment. You may purchase +1 [enchantment] pieces of ammunition in sets of 10 instead of sets of 50. Once you choose the weapon enchantment, you may only change the enchantment type by spending 4 Prestige Points.

Ok, the game is finally over (and everyone lived, too). --->>>HERE<<<--- is a link t the actual Chronicle Sheets. The game has been reported, as well.

Please have a good look through the Chronicle Sheets. Make sure everything is correct, but also, I did tell you that this one had some pretty amazing things listed.

Probably the best one is actually pretty well hidden.

vial of djezet (200 gp each; limit 6; Pathinder Campaign Setting: Technology Guide 56; when used as an additional material component, a dose of djezet increases the effective spell level by 1, which stacks with a heightened spell. To function as an additional component, the spellcaster must use a number of doses equal to the spell’s original level— additional doses have no effect)

Find a friendly local Cleric, (must be a Cleric, not a arcanist), and have them prep a Continue Flame. Continue Flame is one of the few spells with a permanent duration you are allowed to keep between scenarios. And for a Cleric, it's a 3rd level spell. Add in 3 vials of Djezet, it makes it a 4th level spell, which means you are now permanently immune to Deeper Darkness and weaker Darkness spells. . .

What's better, you can do it twice, just in case some Dispel Magic's your EBT.

I'll be closing this game down in a few days, and no kidding, I really, really need a break. But, for now, I'll open the floor to any questions people may have.

Honestly, I think I might have enjoyed it a bit more this go around. I tried very hard to make things cool and interesting, but I really feel that the author really botched this one, and kind of ruined the whole Blakros Museum serious. But, enough of that. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and moreso that no one died. I, had a very similar thing happen to me, with a VC no less, playing Severing Ties, another one that's petty lethal. We had a brand new player literally get Save or Died and died very early on, and then the DM just vanished. He was still active on the boards, (unlike Kim, still hope she's ok), but just left us high and dry. In the end, I bought the scenario so I could give the other players a Chronicle Sheet, but never heard from the DM, and they never bothered to even fix things for the other players. So, I'm glad that didn't happen to you guys/gals.

If there are no questions or comments, I'm going to go ahead and shut this one down tomorrow, though. Thanks all for playing. I probably will not be running anything until mid march, due to work, but I'd be honored to run something else for you all.
