It was a good time, as always, but man was it a slog getting back down--six or eight inches of snow overnight followed by a light rain in the morning, and I was breaking trail in microspikes. It took us 2.5 hours to get up yesterday to the hut (not including Zee Cliff) and 3.5 to get back down today.
It would be awesome for us to do a Con up there, haha. That's probably a pipe dream though.

GMTrex |

Or print out everything needed ahead of time, yeah. Crawford Notch would be pretty cool too though.

Congratulations again, Chris! That makes this party three-fourths VOs!
Mike, you're slackin'. I kid, I kid... ;)

Skybek then takes his wounded companions aside and repeatedly channels positive energy on them. The smell of good strong ale wafts through the air.
OMFG, I love this bit of flavor!

Yes, a very nice bouquet...

thunderspirit |

Me too! This was a blast (no fire pun intended, but it was a good one anyway)!
<looks at chronicle>
Ugh, another editing error. >.<
Not especially egregious (1-2 is NOT the correct tier), but still. Damned if they don't just jump off the page at me sometimes.

GMTrex |

Yeah, I was gonna make a snarky comment about that. "Great job at beating Tier 1-2!"
Agreed, Harpwizard! I'm a little stretched at the moment but I'd definitely be interested in Round II sometime in the near future.

thunderspirit |

Oh, it's my copy editing (academic unpaid division) background cropping up. The errors just drive me batty cos I usually see them from across the room.
(Not in my OWN writing, of course. Those slip through with regularity, LOL. But in stuff other people write I see 'em every time.)

GMTrex |

Let's wait until after TotalCon on February 19-22. Then my characters will be freed up again!
That sounds good. Most of my current games should be finished by then, so I'll be free-er then too.
EDIT: Thunderspirit, you do have two levels in Militant Grammarist, after all. :)

GMTrex |

I'm down for more shiny happy gaming! Shall we rotate GMs then?
Either way! I'm happy to rotate or keep GMing. Is anyone particularly interested in picking up the next one?

![]() |

I'm good either way. I don't mind playing again. I do need to get my 4th star before gen con 2015, but I'm likely maxed out until after karate tournament season.
Thunderspirit, we really need to roll dice in person.

Okay, why don't I grab the next one too (unless thunderspirit wants to?). I'll shoot everyone an email/PM in late February and we'll figure out what to play then.

thunderspirit |

Thunderspirit, are you going to Gen Con this summer?
Nope.
I know it's a lot closer to me than it is to you guys, but it typically falls around my lovely bride's birthday (Aug 1) and our anniversary (Aug 7), and her ex-hole made a point of insisting on having their kids through the first full weekend every August. And, while the older ones don't go anymore, the youngest still does, and we always have to be sure we're available should he decide to pull what he did a few years back and essentially say "you want them back, you come get them." (Yeah, he's a real prince, lemme tell ya.)
We've looked at the future dates and are planning on going in 2017. (Coincidentally, that's the total solar eclipse year...and my brother and sister-in-law live about ten miles out of the path, so guess what we're doing afterward?)

Missed this, sorry.
I can certainly run something for you guys. Looks like you haven't played the QFP series? (I know Andy's run 'em.) Well, I've not run the first two and not played the third, so we could put that on the table. Or Wardstone Patrol — I've run it before, but I don't mind running it again. (I won't say the same about Assault in the Wound, though; ran that 3x at PaizoCon and if I never run it again it'll be too soon.) Or Fortune's Blight, if you wanna go higher level.
(It's a crime, by the way, that Trex and DM S haven't played Mists of Mwangi. That's one of my favorites and one of the scenarios I bring to nearly every convention cos it's such a good one — introduces people to the Society and the Blakros Museum, plus great flavor and roleplay elements.)

I need to go back and check.... could be a typo. I've run Mists before, but I don't know if I've played it.... And HAPPY BIRTHDAY thunderspirit

Happy 25th! ;)
I've played Part 3 of QFP (which Chris ran) and run the set; I'd love to play Wardstone Patrol or Fortune's Blight though. Mists of Mwangi would be good too. I've run every other Blakros Museum scenario except Silver Mount Collection, although I've never played one haha.

Silver Mont was nearly a TPK for me. It's the only mission I've utterly failed in all my PFS career. (Actually Waking Rune was a fail too).
I've run the QFP series, but I don't know if I ever played it. Solid chance that Mike played it.

]
Yeah, Silver Mount was rough. That first encounter would've been brutal without one of my party members being a shocking grasp high-crit Magus.Waking Rune has thus far been my only non-all-1st-level-PCs TPK. To my eternal shame, we didn't make it out of the first room. I'm eventually gonna burn a star to replay that.
I'm game to run Wardstone Patrol or Fortune's Blight for y'all.

GM Harpwizard |

Chris, I remember that epic fail of The Waking Rune. At least we didn't die! However to be retreating after 20 minutes into the scenario was really annoying! I was annoyed to be at GenCon and have it be too late to jump into a different scenario for that slot. I know others like the Waking Rune, but I have nothing good to say about it. Tell me, can I someday ever play through it again and see if I can get further, or is that it finished?

![]() |

I'm with GMHW and DMS. I would love to have a discussion with whomever designed Waking Rune, so I could understand their thought processes--and so I could perhaps get an explanation behind why it appears to be so poorly designed. That was really the only dark spot in what was an incredibly awesome GenCon 2013.
From what I heard, the end bad guy was to open the fight with a quickened Horrid Wilting. That's a 12th level spell. In what way is that even remotely possible to approach balance when the players have AT MOST access to 6th level spells (barring boons or other crazy stuff)??
Thunderspirit, I opine you should have no shame in not having made it out of the first room. I have yet to hear of anyone who has made it beyond. Shoot, Bonekeep wasn't that bad.
I need to check my records for QFP

GMTrex |

I'll shoot everyone an email/PM in about a month regarding the next game, we can settle on exactly what then. Thanks again to everyone for a very fun session!
I'll de-activate the thread later today.

Hey t-rex...something is wonky and I can only get the teeny gif of my chronicle. (doing it from work because my dog is afraid of the printer...stupid dog) did something change with the links/pdfs?
i'll try from home tonight, hopefully they'll still be available.

GMTrex |

Shouldn't have... I can just email it to you if that's easier.

thunderspirit |

Thread necro to poke at the participants about mayhap another game...?
And also to let Mike know that: no, the BBEG in Waking Rune is in fact NOT supposed to start off with a quickened horrid wilting (though he certainly has it). According to what I've been able to deduce without actually reading the scenario (which I am trying hard not to do before I replay it), he's just woken up and doesn't realize right away that a) it's millennia later and b) these group of intruders is an actual threat — he's a Runelord, for cryin' out loud, so he's used to flicking people out of his way like gnats. When he realizes they're an actual threat, that's when the bigger guns come out and he's willing to pull out all the proverbial stops.
To be fair, your GM wasn't the only GM to play him as out for blood from jump; in fact, such GMs were evidently in the majority at GenCon and immediately after. Took several GM threads to reiterate what Krune's tactics should be.
Anyway.
