Grey, the Lady's dog |
"They're not trying to be funny, they're trying to be sensible." Grey shivers as he glances around the clearing, murmuring his now-familiar incantation as the now equally-familiar glowing hound shimmers into existence next to Vitali.
SM I 10 rounds remaining, six uses left.
Kjell Carlufsen |
Kjell paces back and forth in front of the chest looking ahead to where the trail leads with his Great Axe drawn and a scowl on his face.
I am not liking this...feels like an ambush. Stay alert while Vitali works.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 4
New England Frost Giant |
While the party is debating whether or not this was a bad idea, Vitali moves in closer searching for traps, but didn't notice a rope buried in the snow and undergrowth. A very large log swings down from above.
Spiked log attack vs AC
Vitali 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27=1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Hedrick 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28=1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Kilain 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24=1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Grey 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19=1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Kjell 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14=1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
No Reflex Save according to the module.
Grey, the Lady's dog |
CON Check: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1, to stabilize. Nope, Grey is now at -3 HP...
Also, the dog winks out of existence when Grey falls unconscious.
Kilain Gravendak |
As Kilain was glancing around, he had only a second to react when a log swung down froma tree and slammed into his chest, throwing him backwards and onto his back. He only had a glimmer of a thought....knew there was more to it... before darkness claimed him.
stabilize: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
fortunately hes not bleeding to death....
Hedrick of Whitehaven |
Hedrick took the blow from the spiked log hard, but luckily he remained awake.
This is going just swimmingly, we haven't even made contact with a living threat yet . . . careful what you wish for. I've got one potion, I should have bought more, f#$#! Better get it down the clerics throat before I take an arrow through mine.
Hedrick pops the cork and dumps a CLW down the dwarfs gullet after brushing the spittle soaked beard out of the way of his lips.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Kilain Gravendak |
Kilain sputters and cough's as more of the liguid pooured on his face than into his stomach, but what did get there reacted enough to bring him to consciousness and without even standing up he thought quick...if this be an ambush, I need to heal everyone and muttered a prayer to Torag as he lay on his back, and a flash of white energy shot from his laying figure channel: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Grey, the Lady's dog |
The good news is that Stabilizes Grey. The bad news is he is still at -1 HP
Hedrick of Whitehaven |
"Ah now that's better aye dwarf, hopefully you didn't just wake up in time to get dead. Can you see to the halfling, he still appears to be a bit mowed over by the whole experience."
Hedrick is scanning for threats.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Perception "SQUIRREL!"
Alex Mack |
Vitali looks around at what havoc his uncareful actions have caused as he breathes heavily. It feels as if a rib had been cracked and as he is happy to still be standing seeing that Grey and Kilain are not doing so well.
Hmm... I guess I should have listende to you folks... he mutters...
Then he turns his attention back to the chest.
Take 10 on disable device
Grey, the Lady's dog |
2 more channels and 1 cure light available for the day
Then it is fortunate Grey has a bit of emergency healing available as well isn't it?
Emphasis on emergency...As the renewed wave of life-force flows through him, Grey's crumpled form shudders & he spasms back to consciousness. "ggNo! Watch out!" Grey cries as if in response to the earlier impetus. Shaking his head, he looks about as if re-assessing the present circumstances. As his gaze passes over Vitali Grey's eyes squint as if in thought. Nodding to himself Grey begins an odd pantomime, as though he were garbing himself in clothes far too big for himself, clothes which seem to appear as he draws them on!
Great Mastiff |
][Please take greater care next time, 'compatriot' Vitali...
We/I have expended notable resources maintaining focus self-designate 'Grey' 'alive'.][
][It would be most vexing if those resources were to be proven for naught.][
][We/I/Great Mastiff shall remain for present indeterminate...][
New England Frost Giant |
Moving the chest out of the hole requires a bit of help because its size. Covered in snow you find, five sets of leather armor, three sets of studded leather armor, a masterwork chain shirt, two light wooden shields, seven longswords, two spears, a masterwork dagger, and three light crossbows with a total of 25 bolts.
Great Mastiff |
][Not of Infernal origin.][
][We/I are still Grey...
kind of...][
][Explanation is...
difficult.][
][Grey acts as/is self/soul/anchor/focus.][
][Great Mastiff functions as armor/shell/interfaze.][
Looking closely, you notice the form before you appears vaguely translucent, as though composed of milky amber or very fine porcelain with a torch of some kind behind it. At the core of the figure, you recognize a shape reminiscent of Grey's, seemingly floating within.
Hedrick of Whitehaven |
"Well anyone else wearing a chain shirt? Because this is a nice set. This dagger looks nice too. Maybe Grey can use it like a short sword while in um, little form. If no one else wants it I could throw it well too I guess, looks balanced well. The rest we can destroy or bury and come back for it later. I am betting that is what the people who set this trap were planing on doing."
Vitali Lebeda |
Vitali watches the Mastif in amazement not really sure what to think of the magical beast. Then he again turns his attention to the unveiled treasure.
This chain shirt really is nice Vitali replies to Hedrick.
The ACP is a minor nuisance to Vitali so you can have it...
Great Mastiff |
][!Decision imperative!][
][?Continue now or return to Heldren for recuperation/contingent co-ordination?][ Great Mastiff seems if anything, more agitated, than he was when Grey.
Obviously exerting effort to calm himself, ][Whatever you/we do, we/you should decide quickly.][
New England Frost Giant |
You continue on the trail in a south westerly direction. The snow becomes rather deep here in this part if the forest, where a windswept gully carves a path through a tree-covered ridge. A soft cascade of snow falls from an overhead branch. hissing softly as it strikes the ground.
Note: Because of the deep snowdrifts in the gully, entering a snow-covered square requires 4 squares of movement.
Grey, the Lady's dog |
So we are effectively reduced to moving no more than 5' per round? Lovely.
Or is that just through the drifts?
Hedrick of Whitehaven |
As they begin wading through the snow and get stuck Vitali speaks up Maybe we should return to the village afterall. Afterall this snow will have to melt sooner or later!
"Why would we return now? We are healed up, we can camp if need be, and the good lady is still out there somewhere captured by bandits and servants of the Winter Witches. We pledged to attempt to rescue her, I for one don't want to limp back to town without even having seen the enemy."
Kilain Gravendak |
forcibly pushing through the snow, Kilain has a hard time of it He positions himself behind Kjell; so the big man to break through some of the snow and Kilain would have as easy time as could be on his short legs.
I have found something I hate worse than horses now.... he mutters.
