What can it be? Another odd denizen of the north?

Ready yourselves for combat friends.

Kilain takes a few steps back in the snow behind Kjell and using his hammer he makes a sweeping arc, trying to knock some of the snow drift away, so whatever poked its head out near him hed be able to see it.

male Human Bard (Archeologist) 1

Vitali gets his sword and shield up and awaits an attack nervously.

Two Handed Fighter/4; AC: 21; HP: 47/47; F: +6, R: +4, W: +1; Init: +3; Perc: +1

Kjell braces himself and waves his Great Axe back in forth before him.

Come out, Come out, wherever you are...

Initiative rolls

Kjell 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Kilain 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Grey 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Vitali 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Tatzlwyrm 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Due the creature being under the snow, I'm going to use Concealment Miss Chance 20% if you hit the creatures AC. Once visible it will go as normal.

Why does it seem as though I am always first in initiative when I don't want to be & last when I want to be first?..

Turing in the direction Hedrick indicated, Great Mastiff uttered an arcane syllable as a shimmering field coalesced briefly about him.

Crunch:
Move action: move 5' towards creature
Standard action: Cast Mage Armor, Great Mastiff is now AC 19.
does Casting in Heavy Snow require a Concentration check?
If so, Concentration: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18, that probably made it.

AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 11 (1d8+3) Fort +4, Ref +2, Init +2; Perception +7 Sense motive +8 Spell-craft +5

Hedrick tried to judge the creatures size and trajectory under the snow and loosed an arrow hoping to turn it or at least cause it to reveal itself.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 to hit
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 damage
1d100 ⇒ 75 concealment

Hedrick slices through the snow missing whatever was moving beneath

The creature moves around and attack Vitali 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Missing him completely.

Critical fail confirmation: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

male Human Bard (Archeologist) 1

With the creature right before him and missing in it's attack Vitali tackes the opportunity to attempt a counter thrust.

Activate Archeologists luck. Attack. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Vitali's counter attack fails. The creature is still hidden in the snow, except Vitali.

Male Dwarven 1st Champion ??/??; Perception+?; AC ??; Fort +??; Reflex+??; Will ??

As the worm came from beneath the snow to bite out at Vitali Kilain pointed the hammer at it and shouted an invocation to Moradin as a dart of acid short forth at the worm.

ranged touch: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 damage if hits: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

crunch:
Acid bolt 6xday used-1 from Earth Domain

The acid hits the snow and leaves a green patch.

Kjell swings his greataxe into the snow connecting with the creature beneath it. You hear a painful roar and blood soaks the white snow

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 the bloody creature tries once again to attack Vitali but misses.

Hedrick drops a step back and looses an arrow, this time the head finds its mark.

The creature now barely moving starts to make its way away from the group.

male Human Bard (Archeologist) 1

Vitali drops his blade and quickly draws his bow. He does not want this beast to get away.

End archeologists luck, lingering performance kicks in...Draw bow and fire arrow 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 damage 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

Vitali's arrow pierces the creature to the ground

male Human Bard (Archeologist) 1

Vitali is a bit surprised at himself and his newly found skill at archery. He stows away his bow and moves to again collect his shortsword and sheath it up before moving through the snow to examine the corpse.

Two Handed Fighter/4; AC: 21; HP: 47/47; F: +6, R: +4, W: +1; Init: +3; Perc: +1

Kjell makes his way to where the beast stopped moving and pulls it from the snow so that everyone can get a good look at the enemy.

][Agreed. This creature is unprecedented within my/our experience. Friends Kjell, Hedrick; have you encountered such before? It seems well adapted to the present environment. Is it another indicator/minion/harbinger of these 'White Witches' you referred to previously?][ Great Mastiff queried as he/it strode toward the downed creature, fists still clenched in readiness should it be feigning death in order to gain advantage.

Male Dwarven 1st Champion ??/??; Perception+?; AC ??; Fort +??; Reflex+??; Will ??

Kilain moves up and pushes the snow away from the worms body examining it closely, never having seen one before as he looks around for the route it travelled from. perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Upon examining the snow Kilain notices the creature came from the north west following the trail of the group that attacked Lady Argentea's caravan. The path left from the group through the snow bank still makes for difficult travel

Hedrick
Knowledge nature: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Hedrick's knowledge of the north tells that the creature you just defeated is an arctic tatzylwyrm. Known for dragging its prey up into the trees to finish it off.

The snow has started to come down heavier the further you move into the woods.

Hedrick looks up into the trees to see if he could spot anyone, or thing, that had fallen to the man serpent.

"Baba Yagga, is known as the queen of witches. She has the blood of the fey in her veins. There are so many tales of her across the north that they must be like the stars in the sky. She rode into our world some 1200 years ago and took almost half of the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. In most stories she is the boogyman that steals kids who aren't asleep in their beds, or if they don't stay on the trail. The stories are true too . . . She does eat children and worse rips souls from them. We in the North have long wondered when she would come back and push for the rest of our lands. I hope they are still free."

With Kjell's guidance you manage to continue on the trail. A couple long miles away you come to another thick patch of trees.
Feathered bundles and strange fetishes hang from the lowest branches in this part of the forest, swaying and shifting in the wind. All are stuck through with small pins holding pieces of leather bound around them.
