Vitali Lebeda |

Sharing his night shift with Kjell, Vitali is still interested in the plans of the group to head to Oppara and so seeks to socialize a bit with the Northman.
As they are patrolling around the groups campsite he sparks up a conversation: I hear you hail from the North Mister Carlufsen?
You might also recognize Vitali's name and accent as distinct of Brevoy nobility

Kjell Carlufsen |

Kjell sits with his long legs stretched out before him and rythmically draws the whetstone across his axeblade as he listens and watches the surrounding area for threats.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 20
He pauses long enough to look to the north as he responds to Vitali.
Aye, Vitali, that I am. I come from a long line of raiders from the northern isles off the coast of the Linnorm Kings. I come south to earn a name so that the sagas will sing of my deeds and strength in battle. I heard tell that Ulfen men such as myself are favored in the halls of the Crown Prince as bodyguards. You know anythin' about this prince in Oppara?

Kjell Carlufsen |

LOL...I imagine that Vitali is looking at Kjell in the same fashion as your Icon.
I am not really sure, but Grey knows the most 'bout it. A gem of sorts that we took from some ruins. The small town elders couldna' say what it was and suggested we latch on with the caravan to ask 'round Oppara.

Everything is quiet and other than the occasional movement of trees from the light breeze, no threats are noticed.

The night goes by uneventful an you all rested quite well. After an early morning meal Jarrek calls for everyone to break camp and get the horses ready to continue on the journey to Heldren. About 3 hours into you your journey,
Kjell 1d20 ⇒ 3
Kilain 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Grey 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Vitali 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Kylma 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Dorvren 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Jarrek 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Hedrick of Whitehaven |

"Soon we will be in town and it seems you will be on to other things. I for one will miss having the extra blades and the added magic, it appears to bring us restful evenings."

Hedrick of Whitehaven |

Hedrick nocks an arrow to his bow and faces the timber where it seems something is moving through it. "Something this way comes, hopefully I did not speak too soon."

New England Frost Giant |

Dorvren shouts out, P-P-Prepare yourselves! Something's coming right toward us! He dismounts his steed and grabs his light mace, preparing for what he always thinks is the worse.
Kylma jumps from the wagon, immediately readying her greataxe.
Kjell 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Kilain 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Grey 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Hedrick 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Vitali 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Kylma 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Dorvren 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Jarrek 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

New England Frost Giant |

By the time everyone is on the ground, you all see a large grotesque humanoid creature emerge from the Border Wood. This creature’s python-thick apish arms and stumpy legs conspire to drag its dirty knuckles through the grass and Dirt. The stooped blue-skinned giant blinks its dim eyes and an excess of soupy drool spills over its bulbous lips. Its misshapen features resemble a man’s face rendered in watercolor, then distorted by a careless splash. It snarls as it charges, a sound the offspring of bear and man might make, showing flat black teeth well suited for grinding bones to paste.

Grey, the Lady's dog |

Eyes widening at the sudden appearance of the grotesque creature, Grey mutters under his breath, "At least it's not the unquiet dead..." As he then hastily calls out an incantation all his experienced companions recognize.
NEFG & everyone else, I apologize, it seems I have been misinterpreting the Summon Monster I list; I don't get a Celestial Riding dog, I just get a Celestial dog. My only excuse is that this is the first character I have played who regularly uses Summon spells.
Celestial dog: AC:13 HP: 6/6 bite: +2/1d4 - 1; 10 rounds remaining.
A glowing canine shimmers into existence interposed between the 'giant' & the caravan. At sight of the monstrous creature, the dog howls & charges in turn.
Dog bite attack: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7, if that hits; which it looks like it doesn't...
bite damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0

Vitali Lebeda |

Kjell in case of initiative ties the character with the highest initiative bonus goes first... in this case that would be me...Activate archivist luck for +1 to hit and damage. Draw bow and fire an arrow.Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Vitali hears the warning shouts and quickly draws his short bow and readies an arrow. He fumbles a bit to line up the shot and fires at the large drooling beast.

Kjell Carlufsen |

I am square with how initiative is applied, but I was not about to look at all of the modifiers to list initiative, especially since I did not know the ogre's or Jarrek's.
@GM NEFG: I am close enough to reach the Ogre with a charge?

Hedrick of Whitehaven |

Hedrick sees the monsterous beast burst from the foliage and quickly draws and looses his arrow.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 To hit
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 Damage
"What is that thing some sort of a misbegotten Ice Troll!"
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 Knowledge Nature
whoohoo!
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 to confirm
2d8 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11 additional dice if it hits.

Kilain Gravendak |

Kilain waddles forward on stout dwarven legs taking a position in front of Hedrick, hammer at the ready and calls out in prayer for Torag to bless this combat and allow the party to be victorious.
Move action for placement. Centralized but in front of archers. Cast Bless. Each ally gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effects for 1 minute (10 rounds).

New England Frost Giant |

Kjell makes a charge at the large beast with his greataxe cutting it from chest to stomache. The ogre roars in pain and anger taking a step back and swings its makeshift club which looks a lot like a tree trunk. 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 The swing misses him by mere inches, sparing him massive injury.

Hedrick of Whitehaven |

From the earlier above spoiler with updates, hopefully I cherry pick this one.
Hedrick sees the monsterous beast burst from the foliage and quickly draws and looses his arrow.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 To hit 26 with Bless
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 Damage
"What is that thing some sort of a misbegotten Ice Troll? For all the worlds it looks like a northern Ogre, but its far too south to be true!"
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 Knowledge Nature
whoohoo!
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 to confirm 17 with Bless
2d8 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11 additional critical damage if it hits.

New England Frost Giant |

Sorry, was waiting for Kilain as well..
Kylma rushes up and swings at the creature's right side. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 Her greataxe removes the ogre's arm still holding its giant club. As it howls one last time it falls forward. Kjell in the line of the fall 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13 manages to jump out of the way before being caught under the large creature's bulk.

Hedrick of Whitehaven |

Hedrick answers him, but hs mind is off in a far away place, "Hummm, oh, yes of course, but what is this ogre doing so far south?"
"We should backtrack this ones trail a bit to see where it leads."
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 Tracking

Vitali Lebeda |

Interesting indeed Vitali muses in response to Hedrick. Maybe he was looking for an Ogeres and those have all frozen to death? with that the young man begins to search the bloodied corpse of the Ogre, specifically it's clothing for anything that might provide any hints.
Looting and such...

New England Frost Giant |

Kjell cannot find any clues to where the big creature came from.
Vitali searches the ogre for any clues to as to where it came from. A good-sized pouch tied to the beastly creature's belt holds some moldy bread, 2 pints of oil, a healers kit and some gold, silver and copper coins. The imprint one side of them has a woman's image on it, the other a snowflake.

Grey, the Lady's dog |

Huh, I saw no update notification that there had been posts. Annoying.
Grey hops down from the wagon & approaches the fallen corpse. Peaking over Vitali's arm at the contents of the creature's pouch, Grey's brows furrow as he attempts to recall if he had ever encountered coin of that nature before.
Knowledge: local: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21, to recall the minting; unless it requires something like Knowledge: nobility or Knowledge: geography instead, in which case, never mind...

Hedrick of Whitehaven |

"Eh, 7 Hells, I think we should get moving and into town, there may be white witches about. I would be careful where you spend those coins, well, I guess we are pretty far south for most people to recognize those."

Hedrick of Whitehaven |

"It's Irrisian, that Snowflake is their symbol, and on the other side the reigning ice queen. You wouldn't want to be caught dead with that in your pouch up north, but down south it is the color of the metal not the face on the coin that matters. You may keep my share, I want nothing to do with those, they were bought with the souls and suffering of babes. Mark my words I speak true."

Kilain Gravendak |

Kilain walks over and toes the giants body with his boot. He glances at Kjell and says Like the Ice Ghoul that melted? out of place. hrrmmmmmm He stroked his beard and nodded. Hae'nt some of dese folks been sayin its unusually cold this year? I be thinkin this has something to do with the gem we found
