GM Goblin King |
No. You can provoke an AoO, though! R'kellor's having a rough night...
You're armed and ready to go next round, though.
GM Goblin King |
Kraull has a Mourntel moment, but he's still at full hp.
R'kellor can't take another hit. This is a dire moment for him.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Both are hit.
1d10 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
1d10 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
R'kellor is at -5, I believe. Kraull's hurt, and our casters aren't doing much.
Blask is last to go, then round 3:
R'kellor
Kraull
me
Mourntel
Blask
GM Goblin King |
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
From nowhere, an arrow pierces the beast that just felled R'kellor. It's badly injured.
Blask, then round 3.
GM Goblin King |
3
R'kellor's down. Roll to stabilize.
Kraull! Save us! They're both still up with not much in front of them!
Maqli |
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Running in from the shadows is a young male human, wearing thick clothing patched together from various hides and furs. In his hands is a very finely-crafted bow, from which he expertly fires another arrow at the beast standing over the fallen R'kellor.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 1 + 2 - 2 = 19
Modifiers as follows: +1 Point Blank Shot, +2 Reckless Abandon, -2 Deadly Aim.
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 4 = 12
And with that, I enter the game! I'll post over in Discussion.
GM Goblin King |
The creature drops, but it doesn't look dead.
Kraull faces the other one.
Then, it attacks, if it's still alive.
GM Goblin King |
The one that was down seems to be trying to struggle to its feet. The one facing Kraull attacks.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
1d10 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
The half orc suffers a nasty bite, but fear not! Mourntel and Blask are at hand. Blask knows what can stop their regeneration.
Blask |
Only fire or acid will stop them from coming back. Throw the downed one in the fire if need be.
With that, Blask leans over R'kellor and places a hand on him. He unstops a vial, and pours it down his throat.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Mourntel |
There's not much you can do as a caster when you have to burn a movement action to stand up... I normally would have moved closer to R'kellor and healed him, but I couldn't get to him.
While Blask works on healing up the fallen warrior, Mourntel takes a few steps forward to take a hold of the fallen trollhound. He begins to drag the foul creature towards the fire, fully intent on rolling in into the flames.
Strength Check?: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11 Not sure if this is needed, but I figure might as well post it if it is.
GM Goblin King |
That's good enough. It's heavy, but not regenerated enough to fight you. You drag it to the fire and it starts to howl (and burn). The stench is horrific. Mourntel finishes off the nasty thing!
R'kellor is stable (but not conscious, I think), one monster is down for good, and the other one feels quite confident it can kill and eat you all.
Maqli
R'kellor
Kraull
me
Mourntel
Blask
Maqli |
From his place at the edge of the light, the man draws another arrow and fires it into the creature's flank.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 10 + 2 - 2 + 1 = 28
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 4 + 1 = 14
The arrow strikes true, burying deep in the creature's side.
Kraull |
"Arrrgggh!" The half-orc warriors cries out in rage as he attempts again to kill the nasty creature that keeps biting him, remembering he could bite the thing back too.
Greataxe+PA: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 8 - 1 = 19
Damage: 1d12 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
GM Goblin King |
It goes down, but you can see it won't stay down for long.
Mourntel could stop the regeneration.
Mourntel |
Mourntel steps forward towards the fallen creature with a sniff of disgust. He begins to make strange gestures with his hands, all the while flames begin to lick at his fingertips. "The spirits of the Eternal Flame shall purge this foulness." He spreads his fingers out, the tips of his thumbs touching as a gout of flame sudden shoots forth and engulfs the fallen hound!
Burning Hands: 3d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 4) = 11
Mourntel |
The masked half-elf turns towards the newcomer with a strange look. "Timely arrival, friend. Before we would share our fire, what is your name? From where do you come?" He sniffs at the foul smell coming from the burning carcasses.
"Whomever you are, you must be quiet desperate indeed if you would think to eat of these creatures."
Maqli |
The man shakes his head. "Desperate, no. I do what I must to survive, and turning down meat leads to death." He takes a seat by the fire and lays his bow on the ground beside him.
"I am Maqli, and I come from here. I've lived in these mountains all my life. I take it you came from beyond."
Maqli |
Maqli shakes his head. "I have no tribe. My parents were outcasts like you, and they died several winters ago. I've lived on my own since then, although I run with others at times." He slices off a bit of the trollhound meat and sniffs it, then tosses it back into the flame. "I would go to the gathering myself--it is a good place to meet others and trade for what you need or desire."
GM Goblin King |
And so, with Maqli joining their number, the pariahs continue out of the mountains, and down towards the forest.
GM Goblin King |
Pardon the absence.
There are a variety of terrains to contend with, and with your auto-success at getting down the steep face with ropes, etc., the ground becomes less steep and you just walk more and climb less.
It's daytime when you see smoke from what must be a campfire, 100' below and 300 feet straight ahead of you. It's in a stand of tall pine, so all you see is the smoke.
Maqli |
Maqli raises a hand and crouches low, drawing an arrow. "Careful--not all who walk these hills are friendly. We'd best approach with caution."
Kraull |
Any more rest occur for healing purposes?
"What happened to our scout?" Kraull ponders, thinking for some reason they had a Halfling around for that sort of thing. "Anyone want to sneak up on it and find out what's going on?"
"Eh, it looks like we'll have to climb down first, they'll probably see us."
GM Goblin King |
You healed last night, for sure. Your strength should be normal. Gurk found a healing potion (1d8+5), so someone could use that.
To get closer, give me stealth and perception checks.
Maqli |
Maqli shakes his head. "As long as we move low, slow, and quiet, we should be fine. Life here is tiring for those who aren't natives, and sometimes they're less aware than they should be." With that, the hunter begins to step forward carefully...
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23+1 if this counts as hilly or rocky terrain
GM Goblin King |
They haven't noticed you.
R'Kellor has bowed out temporarily. If he's not back soon, I'll have to look for more players.
Hey, we're jut getting started. This is a little different from a standard game. I'll bot him for this encounter.
Maqli |
Maqli moves back to the others, working his way slowly so as not to give away his position.
Stealth Take 10: 10 + 10 = 20
"Two bugbears, two hobgoblins ahead, about to roast some humans. I'll circle around into the woods and use my bow, you charge in?" Before waiting for a response, the young human dashes back into the woods, moving around the clearing while waiting for the others to charge in, an arrow on the string for when they do.
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
GM Goblin King |
The woods are 1/2 movement, due to undergrowth. The clearing is fairly clear and level. Put yourselves on the map near the top, and go kill those fools.
You can make stealth checks to get close, or just move on up (or down, in this case).
Maqli |
Maqli continues to creep along, moving a little swifter than he'd like to, but confident that the goblinoids won't hear him.
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 - 5 ⇒ (2) + 10 - 5 = 7+distance modifiers; penalty for moving at full speed (half speed in undergrowth)
GM Goblin King |
Click on *MAP* and put yourself in a reasonable place. Maqli got the intel. Even at half speed, you should do OK.
GM Goblin King |
I'll assume you trailed him, and went for an advantageous position.
Are our shamans still with us? Anybody having trouble with the map?
1/2 speed 'til you reach the clearing. perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Blask: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12
Kraull: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Maqli: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Mourntel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
R'kellor: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
bugears: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
hobgoblins: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Kraull
bugbears
Maqli
R'kellor
hobgoblins
Mourntel
Blask
GM Goblin King |
The bugbear smacks Kraull's axe with his shield, then counterattacks.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
dmg: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The other, seeing that more of you are coming, throws a javelin at Kraull, then moves to engage R'kellor.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 Neither connects. Maqli's turn.
Maqli |
Maqli abandons stealth, moving forward quickly and firing his first arrow at the bugbear not engaged with Kraull. Moved on the map, attack with Deadly Aim and Reckless Abandon.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 4 = 12
GM Goblin King |
The archer hits his mark, and the bugbear howls in pain and anger.
R'kellor attacks the beast with his earthbreaker.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
dmg: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 6) + 9 = 19
Bugbear skull flies in all directions.
Now, the hobgoblins get a turn. They fire longbows at Maqli and R'kellor.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 8
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 4
Maqli takes an ouchie for 8 points, but R'kellor dodges.
Now it's Mourntel's turn.
Blask |
When my turn
Blask, seeing the skull shatter from the bugbear due to R'Kellor's swing brings s light smile to his face. He moves up through the thick underbrush, making sure to stay back a bit.
double move to current position. I would be in the underbrush rather then in the clearing. My old ass doesn't get near combat lol
Mourntel |
Mourntel moves as far forward as he needs to get one of the hobgoblins in range for his shortbow. He puts an arrow to the string, takes aim, and lets loose his arrow!
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
I just realized I never leveled up Mourntel... Doing so now!
GM Goblin King |
The agile half elf manages to hit a hobgoblin archer.
Round 2:
Kraull
bugbears
Maqli
R'kellor
hobgoblins
Mourntel
Blask
One bugbear is dead, and a hobgoblin is injured. Cakewalk, says I.
