Hi everyone, I'm happy to be joining you here. I've read through the campaign tab and hope this game will have an old school feeling to it. Death and darkness around every corner, and everything dangerous?
I can try to come up with a more detailed background if you like, or just go with what the DM posted concerning me. That works great!
EDIT: I was about to go out and see Seventh Son, but its not playing anywhere nearby. Weird. It was in all the theaters 3 weeks ago. While I will eventually get around to reading the entire Discussion thread, are there any posts of particular importance?

Each character, Morgrym, Amon, and Myna, receive 25 experience points for defeating the six bandits.
Morgrym, Amon, and Myna have earned 157 experience points total at this point.
Since all three of you joined after the game had already begun, please roll 3d6 x10 to calculate where your starting experience points were. If this total plus the 157 points you've earned takes you to 300 experience, congratulations, you are now second level.

One last thing I want to clear up and that is the idea that "Flanking" somehow conveys a bonus to attacks. In 5e, it does not (unless you have a class skill that specifically says so).
In 5e, to get Advantage on an attack roll, when two companions are flanking an enemy, one of the companions must choose the "Help" action, thereby giving up their attack that round to grant their companion Advantage on their attack roll.
I'm rereading the Player's Handbook again to be sure
For now, simply because you flank an enemy does not grant Advantage to your attack rolls.

Myna |

But does not flanking also allow thieves their 'sneak' damage? Or as long as another player is within 5' of the thing you are hitting...is that right??
3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 2) = 6 x 10 = 60
I really hate this stupid dice roller!!!

Namfoodle Daergyl |

Flanking providing advantage is an optional rule from the DMG. You also get advantage against a prone enemy, so if you want advantage against the enemy, knock him down. (Special Attack option).
A Rogue's sneak attack does apply if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of the target. It's not an attack made at advantage though. However, anytime you get advantage on the attack, you do get to inflict sneak attack damage.
Trying to be helpful. Cheerio!

I've been wanting to add a special rule for detecting Secret Doors by Elves and Half-Elves, so I've done it. The section on Perception and Secret Doors in the Campaign Tab has been edited to read as follows
Normally you cannot find a Secret Door with a Passive Perception Check. If your character wants to "Search for a Secret Door," I feel that there are two options; Spotting or Searching
Spotting (Perception) - Your character scans an area quickly, trying to take in any abnormality, the DC will typically be 20+DL (where DL is the Dungeon level), and little to no time will be deducted from the adventure. This sort of check can be applied to anything up to a 40 foot by 40 foot area.
Searching (Investigation) - Your character selects a specific area of wall, floor, or ceiling and examines it in detail. This takes ten minutes (1 Turn) for an area up to 100 square feet (a 10 foot x 10 foot section of wall, floor, or ceiling). The DC to find a Secret Door or other hidden object using this method is 10+DL.
Exception: Elves and Half-Elves, Elves and Half-Elves can detect the presence of a Secret (or concealed) Door by merely passing near one. If an Elf or Half-Elf has a Passive Perception score that is >1/2 the DC to spot a Secret Door for the current Dungeon Level, roll a d6, on a roll of 1 or 2, the Character detects the presence of the Secret Door.
A Dwarf Using Investigation to search for Secret Doors in Stone Walls may add double her proficiency bonus to the check.

Morgrym Rumnaheim |

No, from my experience evil characters, especially lawful one are more inclined to work with the group because they don't want to be called out. So I am fine with it, they have to be okay with things when they go awry within the party.
Sorry, if I am distracted watching a movie.

Reposting this - I do hope all the players are reading all the posts in each thread, this one would be bad to miss.

Kayne Aetherax |

Hey everybody, I'm one of the new players that GDM/Terquem has brought in, and also the guy playing the Lawful Evil character that was mentioned earlier. The character isn't necessarily the most evil guy in the world, he just goes a little too far in his quest to gain arcane knowledge and power. The fact that he's doing it all to win back his soul from the devil he sold it to... Well, depending on your character's outlook on that sort of thing, it might make it better or worse.
In the end, though, I think he'll play out as Morgrym suggested: Kayne knows well enough to work with others when it's for the best, and during pretty much all the time in the dungeon, that's going to be the case. He thinks he's powerful but he knows he's not capable of doing things alone, so Kayne will work with the others--even if he'll never admit to needing or wanting them around.

Janus has respectfully declined to join the game.
Each belt pouch found on the bandits contains a variety of gold, silver and copper coins, the total found will be 3-18 gp total value of all coins per pouch.
Pouch 1: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3) = 10
Pouch 2: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4) = 10
Pouch 3: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 4) = 7
Pouch 4: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6) = 17
Pouch 5: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3) = 10
Pouch 6: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6) = 12
Pouch #3 contains a small brass key

that's 66 gp. divided equally between myself, myna, amon, namfoodle, jade, and kayne and janus. thats 667 = 667 that's 9 each, with 3 left over. I feel like the 3 extra should go to the players that have been here the longest.
Fair?

Flint of Iron |

Hi! Just getting Flint squared away and was asked to introduce myself here. I've been enjoying 5e recently, and am looking forward to playing it in an old-school module! I'm not sure what all I should say here, but if anyone has any questions for me, I'd love to respond, otherwise I'll stick most of my character things within my profile or post it appropriately in the gameplay thread.

Jade Feather |

Hi all, I'm the other new player. I've been playing 5e whenever I get the chance (my regular group is still playing PF) and loving it.
Happy to answer any questions about Jade, though I think it's mostly covered in the profile information.

Kayne Aetherax |

Also sorry here--life's been a little busy (first week back at school after spring break) and I wasn't quite sure how to just start things in gameplay with myself. I'll check in shortly though.

Added two notes to the Campaign tab, one on Doors within the Palace, and the other about Loamstone Hovel, and I am reposting them here, I think everyone can benefit from being reminded about these details that came up in the game earlier.

Generic Dungeon Master |

Another note has been added to the campaign tab

Generic Dungeon Master |

Are Flint, Jade, and Kayne ready to leave Loamstone Hovel? Do you need more time to plan?
Morgrym - will it be alright with you if I create an alias Kristyd Strakeln, or would you rather not have her occur as an NPC? If you do agree to letting me run her, could you take a moment to let me know how you feel she should be run?

Generic Dungeon Master |

Then that's my mistake. If you have any questions about what should happen next, just ask. The way I see it, Kayne is primed to find and explore this "palace," and Flint and Jade have their own private reasons for checking out the place, maybe not as deeply as Kayne, but they have reasons.
The three of you are not interested, at this time I suppose, in trying to rescue the missing Princess, but when you meet the others, you should have an opportunity to be included in that mission.
Right now I am sort of hoping one of the other players (Amon, Morgrym, or Myna) will explain to Gwen why they are there and why it is important that they are doing what they are doing. This sort of reassurance, from a Player Character's mouth, in my opinion, helps keep the game on target. This should also give Namfoodle an opportunity to throw in with the heroes, instead of merely thanking them and getting out of the Palace for good.

Flint of Iron |

Oh! Flint would be curious to hear the long of Jade's motivations, but if she was being silent that is answer enough. I'm fine with assuming we finish an agreement to head to the palace together to see what occurs!

If I am not being absolutely clear, it is nearly impossible to find your way back to the Black Village in the Dark, even with Darkvision (landmarks that are more than 60 feet away are crucial to not getting lost once you reach the end of the shale covered trail, dangerous in the dark enough as it is). The distance, walking distance is about five miles, but it is a slow descent on the trail, or slow ascent for that matter, and takes two to three hours to do in the light of the day.
You can camp on the outside of the Palace, or move the camp into the Bandit Hide Out (the retainers will relocate to this room but will go no further in the dungeon until they know it has been cleared of dangers).
