Talk amongst yourselves, if you need to, and decide how long you want to rest.
You do not have to go back to Cipenny now, Lorelei only would like to give you the list, hoping for an opportunity to get a few new copper kettles and a few luxuries that are hard to come by without mounting an expedition of their own to the Town.
As soon as you are ready, we'll set the characters down right at the entrance once again, ready to make another go at it.
It is a simple list, I wrote it all out on my other computer, it is unlikely you will find the things in the Palace, but I'll keep an open mind about it.
I thought of it as just another way to tie the characters to the Kobold Hovel in a neighborly way
The Kobolds are not stupid, though they can be a bit naive, and a bit slow, so, if a character wants to try to turn a bit of a profit, I'll keep that in mind.
let's say the Kobolds give you 100 gold pieces worth of coins and semi precious stones, and hope to buy 95 gold pieces or so of goods (give or take a few coppers)
If you want to look for items in the Palace, and/or bargain with merchants back in Cipenny, you can do that and see if you can come out ahead of the game.
To be fair, it only takes 6 goblins each to level and we got surprised during one encounter. We don't need to go back to town and we're fortunate to be able to stay at Loamstone.
If Lorelei wants to pay up front how about 2 potions and we'll get her supplies or refund her investment.

Sorry...my page is not showing this thread at all...so I have to go to my alias, and then click onto the most recent post...not sure why it will not show....
A little rest and Myna will be ready to either go and get the supplies, or re-enter the dungeon....I just hope I roll better than I have been :-)
Myna, I tink I see the problem. You originally created a halfling rogue for this game, then mysteriously dropped out of the game, so I removed you as a player , then you rejoined with a new alias,
So Alder Tiller is out, and Myna is in. I'll try to fix it now

NO! but some monsters have other senses that might be better than the Player Character's senses.Things like scent, and tremor sense, for example, though I am still taking my time getting familiar with the MM.
Oh, and another thing. It seems I will be a bit handicapped with this game until at least Christmas
I ordered the DMG from Amazon, it was supposed to come last week, but I didn't see it.
ha, sure I didn't see it. grumble, grumble, my darling wife wrapped it and put it under the tree!
I don't want to upset anyone with anymore House Rules, so
A Torch, burns away some of the fog, and sheds Bright Light in a 20 foot radius, then there is Dim Light, with some fog (Double Lightly Obscured, so can we call it Heavily?) after that, dense fog and darkness
Your light spell, will shed light, but not dispatch the heavy fog, so I'll say that with a Light Spell, there is Dim Light in a 20' radius (Lightly Obscured)
haha, Beldak, thanks for making me smile today. Got a flu bug and stayed home from work, so I needed that.
So all I need is for someone in the group to tell me what you are going to do, check out a door, go past the doors, open a door, just let me know when you are ready.
Well we are entering a long couple of weeks of various lengths of vacation time for most people in the USA. I’m off of work until the 4th of January (woo hooo!) I won’t expect regular posting from anyone, but please do check in when you can, as I will be in and out as often as I can. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you who celebrate this time of year!
Morgrym: In 5e a hit on an unconscious target is an automatic critical. Not sure how GDM will want to rule this as it is his game but double the damage or roll another 1d10+3... either way it's likely dead with an average of 7hp and your crit minimum is 8.
I had wanted to get back to updating my games on Friday, and instead ended up in the emergency care center getting eight stitches in my left hand. Now, I’m not the best two handed typist by far, but the whole situation (frozen water pipe for the second time this winter, flooded basement window well, broken window and the cuts to my hand) put me in an awful mood.
So here I am typing this with the right hand and one finger of the left, and letting everyone know I’m back and going to try to get things moving again.
Thanks to each and every one of you, you’ve been great players and very patient with me.
Let’s find out where we were and get going again.
Also - remember, as I have overlooked a few times now in my regular games, a Critical in 5e only allows double the dice, not double the modifiers

I'm not playing lawful stupid here but I can't just let the dwarf execute our prisoners out of hand - especially while one is at my very sword point. If nothing else its a matter of honor - its my damn prisoner after all.
I am all for executing these goblins when we finish with them - they are minions of the vampire queen after all but they can be questioned and given a chance to convert or at least make peace with their gods before being given a quick clean death.

and none of us speak goblin so the point is mute.
Wouldn't executing them after gathering information be an evil act paladin, especially from their point of view of that being a bargaining chip for their lives.
I was offering a quick clean death while the slept. Besides it's not exactly like I snuck in. If you recall I barrelled and killed the sentry. I never said I cared about how much noise I made.

If the dwarf is killing his own gobbos there is no issue.
My prisoner, my rule. He can't just casually kill mine without my consent.
And I can give a quick merciful death - there isn't a lot of law and order in this place and there is no where to take the prisoner back to unless its the Dwarvish kingdom... for which the penalty for being a goblin is death.
And they MAY speak common. I don't imagine the vampire queen speaks Goblin.
This, I suppose, is one of those things that most definitely needs clarification, in order for the game to proceed, so let me take a shot at defining the situation between Dwarves and Goblins on the island of Baylor
Common Knowledge – (No roll required):
– Goblins live in caves, and underground communities. Goblins are poorly organized, aggressive, and nomadic. Generally speaking a group of Goblins will be a small tribe, lead by a powerful chief or chieftess, and will number no more than thirty. Goblins raid Kobold hovels for supplies, and are even known to raid dwarven farms and small villages when they can. Goblins, unlike Orcs, will not tolerate, easily, life in daylight conditions and so will practically never be found in surface settlements, even as forced labor (common among some remote dwarven settlements, and large farms). It is well known that goblins will eat other intelligent humanoids, and it is even believed that they are cannibalistic. Generally speaking, goblins are only encountered when they are attacking a settlement for food or other resources and it is not considered a crime to kill a goblin in defense of one’s home, or property. When encountered underground, such as during mining, exploring, or excavation activities, goblins are highly aggressive, and even though nomadic, will be extremely territorial of their “nests.”
Uncommon Knowledge – Intelligence Ability Check (no specific Skill required) DC 15:
– Goblins are not cannibalistic. It takes a particularly strong goblin leader to keep control over a tribe of goblins as it grows, or to keep small tribes that find themselves in close proximity from going to war with one another. These types of leaders and large goblin tribes are generally unheard of and no historical account is known, though some dwarves like to tell stories or “goblin tales” that suggest such things have existed in the very distant past. Goblins that fight one another will fight to the death, but will not carry off dead enemies, as goblins are known to do when they attack other intelligent humanoids, and the exact reason for this behavior is unknown. Goblins tend to use weapons such as wooden spears (they favor Black Oak) clubs, and small bows. It is understood to those who have studied goblins that they do not practice metal crafts, mining, pottery, or even the curing of leather, and when these kinds of goods are found among them it is obvious that the goods were stolen from another people.
Rarely Known Knowledge – Intelligence Ability Check (no specific Skill required) DC 20:
- Goblin young are almost never seen and it is believed that a goblin female will disappear deep underground to a place of isolation when she is about to give birth, and remain alone for several years raising her young until they are mature enough to fight for themselves, only then will she return to her tribe, if she can, or more commonly, be taken in by a young goblin outcast who is forming a new tribe. Goblin’s can be controlled by powerful individuals, and have been known to be “disciplined” to the point of being grouped into large squads of fierce warriors that are single minded in their tasks. It has been discovered that the Vampire Queen controls several larger than average tribes of goblins, equipping them with armor and weapons and using them to patrol her palace and keep unwanted visitors out. The King of Balor has issued a bounty on these goblins (and will pay 2 gold pieces for any goblin delivered to authorities wearing armor or that is delivered in possession of metal weapons or shields). This bounty is paid for goblins dead or alive. The King of Baylor discourages anyone from hunting goblins for sport or profit. There is a reason this is discouraged, but the reason is not talked about in normal company of common dwarven citizens, and is a closely guarded secret of the highest kind. It is whispered, among those who are either not afraid of being persecuted or are very foolish, that the reason hunting goblins for sport is discouraged is that expeditions deep below the surface of Baylor can lead to discoveries of a past that the dwarven people will not admit to, and a relationship between Goblins and Dwarves that is sinister, wicked, and depraved.
From the perspective of the Dungeon master, let me say that I will not punish any character for killing helpless goblins, nor will I challenge a Paladin’s status for treating Goblins as extremely dangerous creatures that do ot deserve to be shown mercy. On the other hand, Aethorduils position, of taking a goblin hostage, and not killing it outright is noble, and commendable, and I will defend this character’s behavior in this situation.
General Knowledge of the Languages spoken by various intelligent creatures of Baylor:
The Common language of Baylor is Dwarven, though Alodoan is well known. If you are a Dwarf, Elf, Human, or Halfling you can speak both languages well enough that you would consider both of them to be "common." Goblin is not spoken by anyone other than Goblins. Kobolds speak Dwarven, or so it would seem, but their mannerisms, inflection, and colloquialisms are often difficult to follow. The Vampire Queen is a Dwarf, and most likely, due to her advanced age, speaks more languages than anyone knows.
For you, the players, let me say that as far as I am concerned, as a Dungeon Master that is, you should now that I am sort of simple minded, and old school in behavior. I believe that as far as games of make believe are concerned ( and stories about games of make believe) there are real and definable differences between "good" guys and "bad" guys, at least as far as my campaign settings are concerned.
ACK just read this... I took languages based on the 5e rules... goblin was one of my languages. I can retcon that post though if you'd like...I probably read a book about the goblin language at some point though.
That's fine, Beldak, there is nothing wrong with a Halfling being more fluent than what I described above. Learning the goblin language would be a scholarly pursuit, for some. It is unlikely that anyone living their day to day lives in Baylor would have an opportunity to "pick it up" but a Dwarf might learn the basics of the language, if she were the kind of dwarf that spends a lot of time in the mountains, or around kobolds.

Normally you cant - not really without the right fighter achetype at level 3 but there must be something I can do to stop you casually walking up to a gobbo that I have at sword point to stop you from crushing its skull in even if the game mechanics don't allow for it. Its not as though I am without notice of your intent.
Wow, okay I got completely distracted last night and didn't fix that mistake!
Would it be alright, just this once, if we just kept going, and I promise, to you especially Morgrym, that if I want to bend the rules for any reason in the future, I'll make sure everyone is on board with my decision, before I make a game post?

yes, I would have been fine if the GM just called it as being parried. My problem lies in that you rolled for it, and then it was considered done. This is falling in the lines of PvP which I didn't know was a part of the game. I considered it started now, just want to know if I should finish it or consider it said and done.
