actually, in the absence of the torch, or a light spell of some kind, Flint and Kayne suffer Blindness in the dungeon. If they are more than 20 feet from the torch, they suffer Disadvantage on Perception checks that rely on sight.

The torch burns away most of the fog near it, but cannot effect the dense fog further in the dungeon (It's almost as if the fog is coming from somewhere deep in the dungeon. Any Character may make a basic Intelligence Check, and if >14 they may have a guess about something interesting).

The Fog, Intelligence Check 14+, or Nature 12+:
The fog has a faint but unusual smell, not dangerous, but hinting that a source of water deep in the dungeon may be coming into contact with a source of heat, which suggest that the dungeon has more secrets than you know

As it is now, Namfoodle has a torch, and he is 10 feet away from me, so I should be good to go in the situation, right?

int: 1d20 ⇒ 3

Nooope.

Edit: OH! Also, our scouts probably want to be outside of the torch light range, so maybe imply a larger gap than just 15 feet? Over 40 sounds more appropriate.

Fog ... it's like mist, but ... you know ... fewer letters.

How far does a torch throw light in 5e? I picked 15' so shortlegs could get in front in an encounter, but that was thinking we all had darkvision. Anyway, Myna and I should certainly stay ahead of the torchlight.

I hope that those who celebrate the holiday have a wonderful Easter or Passover, me not so much of a Christian or Jew (more like a non robe wearing Buddhist), but today I get to assemble a new swing set for my Grand Daughter. I think I need some kind of wrench or something I tried rolling to make it happen, but eh?

I'll try to get a battle post up before I start

Okay, going to say that Amon does not charge into the room, everyone else is an eligible target (Remember to give another Hero advantage, all you have to do is announce you are "Helping" and who you are Helping[/dice]

There are 4 attacks and 6 PCs
Morgrym = 1
Flint = 2
Jade = 3
Myna = 4
Kayne = 5
Namfoodle = 6

Attacks
Who?: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Who?: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Who?: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Who?: 1d6 ⇒ 6

{Ah Ancient hatreds rise up...}

Morgrym is attacked 2 times, and Kayne and Namfoodle will be attacked

This doesn't seem fair. I'm disadvantaged to my primary attack when I don't have initiative? That could be 100% of the time regardless of my proximity to any enemy.

Yes it does seem unfair, but looking at the basic rules as they are written, as long as you are in melee, you can't escape that anyway (Unless you can cast a spell as a bonus action or as a reaction, and in those cases I would not apply the Disadvantage):

You either move, and take an Attack of Opportunity, or chose to "Cast a Spell" and take the Disadvantage penalty

But, I've already lost one good player to the house rules, so I'm willing to compromise, if we can work out something that makes you happy.

I edited the original exchange for clarity

We had this discussion earlier to deal with spells being cast in Melee under my house rules.

Basically (since there are no Attacks of Opportunity) if the monsters win the intiative, you cannot get out of Melee reach during the round and must roll with Disadvantage if you choose the Cast a Spell option in the round (only when you have lost the initiative, even if your Dex modifier can bring you into a tie).

I know this seems harsh, but it also means you don't take AoO

Male, old, old, Male

Got completed distracted by chores today. Sorry, update will happen tomorrow

Oh, and Jade, don't fret about it, we are trying to get things less than specific during combat, so the only time when it should matter when you go (among the heroes anyway) is if you and another player decide you want to pull off something that requires that sort of planned out timing.

If you do not specify a particular color of token to be attacking the order of attacks against tokens will be

1) attacks against monsters that you think are attacking a particular other character, or

2) the color of the order of the rainbow
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Indigo
Violet

Thinking about the Pantheon, what if there is a group of gods that are defined by different metals, and are maybe even responsible for creating it?

So there could be the dwarvern god of Iron, for example, who is a battle deity. Then you could have gold, silver, platinum, tin, etc as you see fit, with domains, personalities and aesthetics all inspired by the metal they are responsible for.

Male, old, old, Male

I like that idea Flint

Each character receives 20 experience points for defeating the skeletons.

Male, old, old, Male

I noticed not all of you are tracking experience points on your character sheet (alias). It's probably important that you do

Also, I miscounted hit points for the previous award, so that should be

Each character receives 25 experience points for defeating the Skeletons

I think that Morgrym will level, I'm not sure about everyone else, I am checking now.

Male, old, old, Male

Okay, so wow, looks like no one is tracking experience points (I know I assigned rewards, and asked new players to roll a random number for starting xps?)

I'll do some poking around in the thread and try to figure where everyone is at.

I may award special experience point awards

You might not all level at the same time.

Morgrym, the only one I've checked so far, should be at 302 experience points

Generic Dungeon Master wrote:

Morgrym, Amon, and Myna have earned 157 experience points total at this point.

Since all three of you joined after the game had already begun, please roll 3d6 x10 to calculate where your starting experience points were. If this total plus the 157 points you've earned takes you to 300 experience, congratulations, you are now second level.

Morgrym rolled 120

Myna rolled 60
Amon - I don't believe he ever rolled for additional XP

The other new players

Namfoodle rolled - 70
Jade - ?
Flint - ?
Kayne - ?

Still searching the threads

I've been tracking mine. I'm at 95/300. My original roll of 70 was done, I believe, on the recruitment thread that I found this campaign on. Same place where I rolled my starting stats and wealth, I think.

I'll try to calculate my encumbrance tonight.

Because I, the player, am having a blonde moment...

Morgrym's dig (and very well dug, as you'd expect from a dwarf) aside, wasn't this place built by dwarves, or am I just being confused?

Male, old, old, Male

You should be confused.

Dwarves, such as Morgrym and others living on Baylor in the open air, will deny that Dwarves built this place (though most of them know that is not the truth)

Male, old, old, Male

On the very first page of the game thread, Waglinde, a colorful entertainer with questionable connections in the town of Cipenny, told a tale about the Dwarves and these dark mountain places. You can go read it, it's probably the biggest post on the first page, if you want to know more (Waglinde would repeat this story to anyone passing through Cipenny on their way to the Palace of the Vampire Queen)

Male, old, old, Male

I've added the calendar to the campaign info tab, and revised the house rule on maps to say that we will have a basic combat map, but that it will be gridless

Ouch. What did you do to your hand? Or would you rather let it heal and type an answer later?

If a dwarf bit you, you should make sure your up on all your shots.

Male, old, old, Male

I started a meditation garden in my back yard, shovel, saw, rake, moving heavy stones, wood, laying gravel. Worked all day Sunday, and tore open a few blisters on my right hand (couldn't just stop when I'd had enough, had to get phase one complete).

No, no I mean, yes, a dwarf bit me!

Male, old, old, Male

I will get on updating the map tonight, replace Amon with a token of a mule! (how did I miss that detail?)

Also, the next encounter might be a dull roll play intensive one, so let's keep our heads in the game so we can get to finding monsters that need to be dealt with, and experience points to be earned.

We'll have to remember this shop. There might be a puzzle's solution in here somewhere in one of these jars!

Male, old, old, Male

quickly scribbles out notes about upcoming puzzles...

Male, old, old, Male

Other than purchasing more jars, there is little else for the party to gain by hanging around the shop. Maybe it's time to develop an exit strategy, and decide where to explore next.

Male, old, old, Male

please not the new current map. it is zoomed out a little far, so it might be hard to see where you are. But you've passed a few door sets, a huge door set, and there are two intersecting passages ahead in the fog, one going north and one going south

Male, old, old, Male

Flint - He would have shown you a smoky clear jar, not too large, and you will remember which one it is,

However, if you decide to open it, just remember to roll a d6 in the post when you do.

Male, old, old, Male

Sent a PM off to Jade, waiting to see if she responds. Seems she hasn't in over a week.

Male, old, old, Male

Oh and that reminds me, if I miss something, say an important action, a question, or something critical about your character, try not to get mad at me, I'm a moron and I am running too many games, meh, oh well. Just drop me a PM and say, "hey, Doofus, wake up and read your game thread!" or something like that and I'll try to make things right as soon as I can.
