Reta hits one bird in the second group, and her shot at the third group causes a handful of goblins to shriek in terror as it goes just above their heads.
Poog... the less said about Poog's shots, the better.
The Blind Bird Shoot dare ends with Mogmurch in the lead with 14 points, Chuffy in second with 6, Reta, Goog, and Mic tied for third with 4, and Poog... present.
The next dare takes the contestants and the audience to the west, where a particularly low valley has subsided into a permanent swamp of nasty stagnant water. A failed attempt by the Birdcrunchers to build huts on stilts left behind a haphazard arrangement of wobbly posts protruding from the boggy ground. The goblins have laid wooden planks across several of these posts, creating narrow bridges that stand 10 feet off the ground.
Map updated. Scroll down to see the relevant portion.
A single stirge on a 5-foot long tether is attached to a dozen of the posts. (These are marked by red dots on the map.) The goal of the game is to kill as many of these stirges as possible, preferably by stomping on them, but any method of killing them works. (The PCs do not have their weapons with them currently, but can choose whether to wear armor or not.)
Each of you has been outfitted with wide, clumsy, human boots. (A high-heeled pair was found for Reta.) These make stomping a little easier (stomping with the boots counts as an unarmed strike, but does not provoke an attack of opportunity) but make moving more difficult. The boots reduce the wearer's speed by 5 feet, and Acrobatics checks are at a -2 penalty.
The goblins are able to climb up onto posts at the edge of the bog before the game begins. Once Mummy starts the dare, stomping a stirge gains 2 points, falling into the bog below disqualifies a goblin, and being the last goblin on the posts after all others have fallen in earns 5 points. If not everyone falls in, the dare ends when all the stirges are dead. These are LIVE stirges, and can fight back.
Moving along a plank requires a DC 7 acrobatics check, and requires one to move at half speed. One can step from one post to another if they are adjacent (5 ft apart). Jumping from one plank or post to another depends on the distance between them, with the DC of the jump equalling double the distance (as one does not have 10 ft for a running start). Failing the acrobatics check to balance by 2 or more results in a fall. Failing the acrobatics check to jump by 4 or less allows a DC 20 reflex save to catch the edge of the post and stop your fall. I've taken the liberty of placing your tokens on the map at posts where you can begin, already having climbed up.
Once the contestants have taken their places, Wise Mummy tosses a thunderstone, causing a loud crack and signalling the dare to begin!
Reta BB |
Reta removes her breastplate before the competition starts, she wasn't afraid of the stirges, but falling and getting dirty would not be very becoming. Reta pushes Goog...or Poog, she could never tell which... out of the way as she moves onto the longer branch of planks to her right.
taking 10 walking will give me an 11. Is that OK?
Burna |
Mogmurch will slowly make his way across the plank and get ready to stomp on a stirge when he can reach.

If we only use boots, this is going to take a *long* time... That said, Poog and Goog do have Wands of Fireball...
Chuffy hustles down the plank, and attempts to squash the closest stirge.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13.
Boots: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17, for 1d2 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) - 1 + (3) = 4 damage.
GM Paladin |
Moving for Mic. If you have 6 or higher in acrobatics, it looks like you can't fail the check to move unless, say, someone pushes you. Anyone with 6 or higher in acrobatics can 'take 1' and skip the roll. If you don't have that much, though, you do have to roll, as we're effectively in combat which makes taking 10 impossible. I've also added numbers so we can keep track of which stirge is which, and I'll turn the letters black when they die.
Chuffy makes it to a stirge and squashes it, doing significant damage, but it's still moving.
Mic walks along the beam and kicks out at the nearest stirge.
He manages to squish it good, and it falls down to the end of the cord holding it, still squirming a bit but clearly out of the fight. 5 is down.
Mogmurch's turn isn't until after the Stirges so the only targets that are actually in range of the stirges are Mic and Chuffy.
Two stirges fly to Chuffy, land on him, and jab their barbed proboscis into his flesh, sucking out a surprising amount of blood in a few seconds. 2 Con damage to Chuffy. Only one attacks Mic in this way, but it too gets a blood meal. 1 Con damage to Mic. You can use a grapple to tear the stirge off your body, or attack it.
Turn order:
Mic
Chuffy

Mogmurch: Stomps at a Stirge and misses.

Mic Chuffy |
Sorry, I climbed Mt. Fuji this weekend and was somewhat down yesterday. Back now.
GM Paladin |
No worries, that sounds amazing!
Cartmanbeck's Gob Pregen |
"Stupid bug-faces! DIE!!"
Goog tries to move along the plank in front of him and jump across to the adjacent one.
Acro: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 - 2 = 13
Acro jump: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 - 2 = 1
Unfortunately he falls directly into the water.
Poog the Sagacious |
Poog removes his armor prior to attempting.
Just barely maintaining his footing, Poog looks like a pathetic court jester. He throws a javelin straight up in the air while his arms flail to maintain his balance.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
javelin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 91d4 ⇒ 3
Couldn't see how close any stirges were to me, so I just tossed a javelin. Would have missed regardless.
GM Paladin |
Goog, you can stand at the end of the plank and make an attack on 12 from there -- are you sure you want to try the jump? Poog, you can do the same from the short plank in the middle, between Reta and Mic, and attack 10 or 11.
Chuffy and Mic can act as well.
Mic Chuffy |
Mic will try and rip the stinger off of 10 then jump over of its dead.

Is that a CMB roll? I'm assuming so. Are you rolling to do damage or just to remove it from your body? If the former, roll damage. if not, it's not dead yet.
Mic Chuffy |

sneak attack: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9
Some Random Goblin |
"Gah!"
Chuffy attacks the injured stirge attached to his body.
Punch: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25, for 1d2 - 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) - 1 + (2, 2) = 5 damage.
Stirges lose Dex to AC when attached, so that is why I included sneak attack.
GM Paladin |
Indeed. Both stirges are squished and knocked off their victims.
Stirges lock onto Mogmurch, Mic, and Goog, and the one on Chuffy continues to suck his blood. One tries to bite Reta but can't seem to get through the corset she's wearing under her shirt.
Mogmurch, Mic, Chuffy and Goog each take 1 Con damage.

He then jumps across to the next plank, opening himself up to the attentions of stirge #4.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29.
Mic Chuffy |
Mic attacks the stirge stuck into him that's sucking out his essence.
Punch: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 and deals damage: 1d2 - 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) - 1 + (6, 6) = 12
GM Paladin |
Chuffy squishes dead the stirge still attached to him, and moves towards another.
Goog, Mogmurch, and Poog struggle to hit their stirges, unable to land a solid blow or get them off their bodies. Reta stomps on the tail of one, but it's still buzzing, trying to bite her. Mic can't quite get the right angle to smack the stirge off his body.
The stirges on Mogmurch and Goog maintain their grip, sucking more blood out, but the one on Mic gets knocked off by his squirming and trying to get away. Both Chuffy and Reta get their skin pierced by a new stirge, sucking out still more blood.
Mogmurch, Goog, Chuffy, and Reta all take 1 Con damage.
Stirge 1 maintain grapple vs. Mogmurch: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22

He then jumps across to the next plank, opening himself up to the attentions of stirge #7.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16.
Poog the Sagacious |
Poog reels and spins, each time appearing to come as close as he can to falling without actually falling. He appears a circus performer or a jester, and some of the goblins in the crowd begin to laugh and point at him.
His attack at one of the stirges narrowly misses Goog's goblinhood, missing by only a fraction of an inch.
His performance is so atrocious, it begs the question: is he doing this on purpose?
acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 Third time I have rolled the lowest number I can roll to not fall off!
dogslicer: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 41d4 ⇒ 4 Just...w.w...
GM Paladin |
Reta Squishes 11, Chuffy squishes 4. Goog didn't roll damage for his successful Grapple CMB roll so assuming that he chose to control the grapple and then release the stirge. Poog: You only fall off on a 5 or less according to the adventure.
Moving for Mic:
Mic decides to grab the stirge before it bites him again.
grapple vs 8: 1d20 ⇒ 15 Success! The stirge is grappled.
Mogmurch is able to brush the stirge off his body, though he isn't able to get a good angle to do damage. Stirges latch onto Chuffy and Goog, and though the one being held by Mic struggles, it can't escape the goblin's clutches. 1 Con damage to Chuffy and Goog.
Everyone is up. Players who can't get at a stirge easily can throw something or cast a spell if they want.

Reta BB |
Reta gingerly returns back on this plank then moves on to the far left, getting ready to fight her next opponent.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
[EDIT 1:]... Or, at least she thinks she is moving gingerly. Her heel is gunked up with viscera from the last stirge, and Reta slips when she goes to put her foot down.
GM Paladin |
Ouch, first elimination. I don't think this particular game will last much longer, anyway. Just wanted to point out to folks that there's no reason one can't target a stirge attached to another goblin.
Reta slips on Stirge guts and topples face-first into the mud underneath.
GM Paladin |
Which one? The only one damaged currently is the one attached to Chuffy, if that makes a difference to you.
-Posted with Wayfinder
Reta BB |
Reta flails about in the mud for a moment, striking at it, as though she blames the earth itself for making her fall. She is motionless face-down in the mud for a moment. Finally, she stands and wades her way out of the muck to watch the rest of the competition from the sidelines.
GM Paladin |
I get the sense you guys are getting bored of this event. I'll move for Mogmurch and Mic so we can get closer to the end of it. I would probably have cut this part out if this wasn't PFS.
Frustrated, Mogmurch decides to give up on the stomping. He jumps to the next board, and tosses a bomb across at a stirge, hitting it dead on and blasting it to bits. Its nearest neighbor is also damaged in the explosion.
Watching goblins applaud at the pyrotechnics.

Chuffy hops across the planks, and punches the stirge pinned by Mic.
Poog the Sagacious |
Though lacking in almost everything else, one thing Poog has is determination. He refuses to quit, and even manages to throw a bolt of fire at one of the creatures from afar.
Aiming at whichever seems most wounded, if any.

Any action?
Mic Chuffy |
Thought that was the last one..
Mic looks around for another foe, if he doesn't find one, he will trip Chuffy and walk off the log.
