Poog the Sagacious |

Poog smiles broadly at all the loot they have found.
"Maybe Glorious Leader make all goblins kings when we get back!" he muses with greed in his eyes.
After they have rejoiced in their spoils for some time, he finally thinks they should move on.
"We find fireworks now!" he says.

Some Random Goblin |

Mic Chuffy takes the crossbow + bolts. Goog takes the healing potions. We can split the gold and taffy equally. I'll take the potion of Bull's Strength. That just leaves the potion of Bear's Endurance. Any takers?

After a lunch of roasted spider legs and spider stew, the five continue onward along the creek.
The creek broadens, being joined by other streamlets, as you near the point marked on Scribbleface's map. You're not quite at the coast, but it's close enough for you to hear the faint susurrus of waves crashing on an unseen swampy shoreline.
Peering from the trees and brush, you see a wide clearing, with the object of your quest in sight. A two-masted ship lies mired in the mud in this clearing, its rigging thick with moss and decorated with lanterns and windchimes made from goblin skulls and bones. Strange writing is faintly visible along the ship's prow, while the soggy, swampy "yard" that surrounds the wreck is encircled by a rickety wooden fence. A thin curl of smoke wafts up from a chimney that protrudes from an unusual box-like structure near the ship's bow.
You are approaching from the northwest. 1d8 ⇒ 7 The wind is blowing from the west to the east, so you can't smell anything, good or bad, from the enclosure.
Please move your icons into the map to indicate your initial approach towards the shipwreck. The link to the map above is updated.

Chuffy (and any other gobs that approach and look over or through the fence) sees that the ground inside the fence is very muddy, with lots of strange footprints in the mud. Some of these look like they may belong to friendly wolves (or possibly terrible dogs), others are less recognizable.

Some Random Goblin |

Survival: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21.
Chuffy's eyes grow wide.
"There's horsies in here!"
He drops down into the mud, and draws his borrowed dogslicer, ready to face whatever terrible fiend is hiding in the yard...

Is that shouted, whispered, or said at a normal volume?

Mic Chuffy |

Mic grumbles to himself about wanting the strong potion and considered shooting Chuffy with the crossbow.

To be clear, there are no visible horses, only horse footprints and droppings. Please move your icons to your desired position, or state where you want to go if you can't move the icons on the map.
Mogmurch sees the furry creatures on the deck of the ship. One lifts its head up, sniffing the air. It's a dog! The fearful sound of a dog barking echos through the clearing.
The gate is latched, but doesn't appear to be locked in any way.

![]() |

The gate opens with just a small creak, and Goog steps through. Inside the fence, the ground has been thoroughly trodden and squished into mud, to the point where it is difficult terrain to any medium or smaller creatures.
As you approach closer, you can see a rickety gangplank covered with muddy vines that leads up from the ground to the bow of the ship.
Quick check: Mogmurch took 4 HP damage in the last encounter. Did anyone spend the wand charge, spell, or extract to heal him up?

![]() |

So are you guys actually moving in through the gate into the fenced area? Because no one has actually put their icons there.

![]() |

I moved Poog's icon (that's the brown one) for him since he said he was following his brother (Goog the green).
As the little goblins squelch their way slowly through the mud, they hear a bone-chilling sound -- a high pitched whinney from somewhere behind or around the ship.

This is a surprise round, so I'll move the actions of those who were surprised to the first round.
The horse moves forward cautiously, keeping to the side of the boat. He seems like an unusually crafty animal.
Surprise round:
Horse: Moves forward.
Chuffy: Hides under the ladder. Need a stealth check and a perception check from Chuffy.
Mogmurch: Is up!
---------
First round:
Poog: Tries to hide behind a fencepost.
Mic: Tries to hide behind the gate.
Horse: Waiting for Mogmurch's action.
Chuffy:
Goog:
Mogmurch:
(I'll allow Poog and Mic's stealth, since goblins are small and these appear to be pretty good-sized fenceposts/gate.)

Burna |

Mogmurch preps his final bomb of the day for when the horse gets closer. It'll not get the best of him!
Attack for when it enters range
Touch: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Fire: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

![]() |

What range are you waiting for? Your bombs have a 20ft range increment. Is that the distance you want to wait for?
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

I'll consider Mogmurch's action to be Ready action: throw a bomb at the horse when it approaches within 20 feet of him.
Goog, I noticed you moved on the map, but your action comes after the horse, which will possibly change where you want to go.
The horse clops forward, showing its teeth and snorting in anger. It doesn't see Chuffy under the gangplank, so it's first target is Goog. As it charges, Mogmurch tosses his bomb and it explodes against the horse's left flank. It screams in pain and surprise, its attempt to trample Goog failing.
attack: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 2 = 11
Goog, as you can see, you are now adjacent to the horse. Do you want to 5-ft step back and maintain your previous action, or use that attack roll with a melee attack instead?
First round:
Poog: Tries to hide behind a fencepost.
Mic: Tries to hide behind the gate.
Mogmurch (readied action): Throws a bomb as the horse charges.
Horse: Charges and gets bombed for 9 damage.
Chuffy: is up!
Goog: revision of action needed!
---------

![]() |

I'm not sure you get flanking since Goog didn't mention having a melee weapon out at any point, but with the horse bane ability it really doesn't matter. Goog, you can save that use of your firebolt ability, or redirect it to try to hit the dog, although you'll need to move to within 20 feet horizontally, as the dog is about 20 feet up from the ground, and your firebolt only has a range of 30 feet.
Chuffy feels a surge of magic in his blade as he attacks the horse, and his slice at the beast's unprotected belly succeeds at utterly eviscerating it. The horse's guts fall through the suddenly gaping wound, and it collapses, rapidly bleeding to death.
On board the ship, two dogs appear to be barking loudly, having heard the screams of the dying horse. You can see one of them, a mangy hound standing on the nearest corner of the upper deck, growling and barking, his hair all a-bristle. A rusty chain is looped around his neck, which may be the only reason he hasn't come down to attack.
First round:
Poog: Tries to hide behind a fencepost.
Mic: Tries to hide behind the gate.
Mogmurch (readied action): Throws a bomb as the horse charges.
Horse: Charges and gets bombed for 9 damage.
Chuffy: Brutally eviscerates the horse.
Goog: is up!

Dog2 (Tickletooth)

Some Random Goblin |

"Yay! Chuffy-the-horse-killer!"
Chuffy does a little dance.
Almost as an afterthought, he comments:
"Don't use the gangplank - there's a tricksy trap on it, involving a wasp nest..."

![]() |

The firebolt sets the dog's fur aflame and it yelps in pain, backing away from the edge of the deck. You can't see it clearly anymore.
The barking stops; perhaps both dogs are scared now.

Goog perception check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Goog notices the trap Chuffy described, and avoids it. He is unable to see the top deck from the main deck, however, due to the large square structure directly above the bow. (See the illustrations of the ship in the map. I'm removing the block hiding the individual deck layouts, and adding an icon for Goog to that one as well. Also, this takes a double move to get there due to the mud being difficult terrain You have 15 more feet of movement if you want to take it.)
Second round:
Poog:
Mic:
Mogmurch:
Chuffy:
Goog: Ascends the gangplank to the bow of the ship.

Mic Chuffy |

Mic Double moves, drawing his dogslicer while he does so.

![]() |

Mic perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
As he walks up the gangplank, Mic says, "What trap? Mic see no trap. Only vines."

![]() |

As the goblins eagerly swarm up the gangplank, Chuffy points out the vines, and the goblins are able to step over them. (I reduced the perception DC from 15 to 5 to reflect the way that Chuffy pointed out the vines. Still wanted to have some chance for a bumbling goblin to trip it, but alas.)
The dogs are not making any noise currently. Perhaps the firebolt killed the one above, or perhaps he is just being silent to try to hide.
Second round:
Poog: Climbs about halfway up the gangplank.
Mic: Ascends the gangplank to the bow of the ship, and starts heading around to the south.
Mogmurch: Squelches through the mud towards the gangplank.
Chuffy: Ascends the gangplank to the bow of the ship, and starts heading around to the north.
Goog: Ascends the gangplank to the bow of the ship.
Scabtongue: Cannot be seen or heard.
Tickletooth: Cannot be seen or heard.
