You see a group of pathfinders meandering about a house. As soon as they spot you their leader, Jayson Rhees comes forth to greet you with a rather unflattering welcome.
“Maybe you should ask someone with more experience? Or maybe it doesn’t need to be guarded? It is haunted, isn’t it?”
It is obvious that he and his team are afraid to go into the house.
Dimitra |
before moving towards them Dimitra casts honeyed tongue
"My dear Jayson, I think you and your team are exactly the team that is perfectly suited to guard this. You don't need to go in, just make sure nobody enters or leaves. Remember your confirmation and all the assignments you have successfully finished after that. I am certain you can do this, have faith in yourself."
Diplomacy, Heroism: 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 16 + 2 = 29
Diplomacy, Heroism: 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 16 + 2 = 33
That is a 33
nightdeath |
I bow to your superior rolls.
Jayson is tongue tied as he and his team hangs to Dimitra's every words. Once she's done, you see the team moving as one, checking their gear and equipment before entering the house and taking up their positions. There is no hesitation unlike before............just purpose.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------
Heading back you see Janiff Ivulxtin looking really fustrated as he unsuccessfully tris to get a dwarf to escort civilians away from the fighting. He's obviously not very sucessful as the dwarf and his team of heavily armored warriors seem eagar to have a go at the monsters already in the city.
“I’m quite confident that Professor Nigel Aldain can find his own way to the front gate. What gives you the right to order us about? You’re no venture-captains!” Shorvan Anvilhammer their leader blusters.
The PCs can overcome this issue with a successful Bluff check, or point out other instances in the Society’s history when temporary measures were taken in an emergency.
Ryskovich |
Yes sir, I will do my best to rally the others, as Ryskovich listens to the words spoken by Dimitra. He has to catch himself from going towards the house himself after a speech like that.
He again listens as the Dwarven clan is being...stubborn as all get out.
He tries to think of what to say, but the words don't come to him.
No bluff, and brain is dead in regards to past lore
Ash - Eric de Vries |
Bluff: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
"Allthough I have to agree on you about none of us being Venture-Captains, we did get a temporary field promotion from venture-captain Janiff Ivulxtin to the rank of Venture-Agent so for the duration of this battle we outrank you! Now fall back in line soldier and do as you are commanded! Go escort the Professor and other non combatents to where ever you think they will be save!"
Dimitra |
Venture Agent, how did he come up with that? It gives me something to work with though
"Thank you Ash" Dimitra says as she steps to the foreground and looks at the Dwarf "The new rank of Venture-Agent was to be announced by Farabellus in his speech, however circumstances have prevented him from making his statement. You know that Professor Aldain is a valued Society ally. Protecting him might just give you the opportunity to get yourself known with the Venture Officers, giving you more chance for a promotion to the rank of Venture Agent"
Bluff, Heroism: 1d20 + 20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 20 + 2 = 40
Tssk, they are easily fooled....
nightdeath |
Good Grief. You guys are so owning this.....
"Bah Field Promotion from Janiff Ivulxtin? Isn't he an ex-venture captain....but I suppose things have changed and a field promotion doesn't seem unlikely." The dwarf responds to Ash.....he looks ready to reject but Dimitra slams into him like a Calvary Charge.
"Promotion? yes. Protecting the Professor will be out utmost duty. Nothing will come close to the Destructors."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------
Diplomacy (Hard) or Knowledge (local) (Easy)
Janiff Ivulxtin beams upon your return.
"I knew that you are of a good make. Now I have here a fresh problem. I sent Meesha and her teammates who want to help but expressed doubts when asked to stall the district guards at the front gates. "
"There are only six of them and they don’t seem to like their odds against Absalom’s city watch. They need to be reminded this is a contest of wills not a brawl with the authorities. A good pep talk from you should achieve this, as does a reminder that the Grand Lodge was built in the Foreign Quarter for a reason; it has some of the privileges of an embassy. Meesha needs to be coached to tell the guards that if they want to tread across the campus, they’ll need a signed warrant from Lord Gyr first."
Turning away to issue orders to another group.
"Back them up alright? She and her team just had their Confirmation."
Reaching the Front gate where Meesha is, it's obvious she and her team are at a loss.
Looking at you full of indecision, she pleads,
“What if the guard won’t take no for an answer? Can I be arrested? Will someone post my bail? Maybe a venture captain should be doing this?”
Dimitra |
Sorry GM, this is what Dimitra is build for.
Assuming Honeyed Tongue works, if not take roll 1
Diplomacy, heroism roll 1: 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 16 + 2 = 27
Diplomacy, heroism roll 2: 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 16 + 2 = 30 <--
"Walk with me Meesha" Dimitra says while she puts her arm around the young woman's shoulders. They stroll of a bit and Dimitra starts to speak. "Now look, your team is obviously looking up to you. I understand that it might be difficult to stand up to authority, but it is something that every Pathfinder needs to learn. See this as a learning opportunity. Those guards are likely uncertain, and if you show confidence they will never even question you."
Yeez, how did they get through their confirmation?
Titus Slade |
Titus stays silent as Dimitra instills confidence in the rookie pathfinders. The best way to train is to on the job and this was a good opportunity. It was no fight with a great beast, but what was.
nightdeath |
lol. I salute that build. Its perfect for this situation.
Meesha buoyed by Dimitra's Words is more than ready to take charge and somehow is transformed.......
By the time you have left to report to Janiff Ivulxtin.........The Tyrant Meesha has somehow not only fortified the gate, dragooned an entire squad of Guardsmen, created kill zones but also established a form of secure communications using a cadre of wizards.........you can still hear her bark orders in the distance.
"Move those spikes into position there and you! Take up positions behind it. Move!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----
Janiff Ivulxtin takes barely a glance at you before he points to an area of the map.
"I'm not sure what you did but we have a secure form of communications somehow and I got a bunch of dunderheads at THE REPOSITORY. Do something about them and have them guard it instead of attempting to gain glory."
Dara Immlin and her regular team consider themselves to be up-and-coming Pathfinders. When asked to simply stand around the Repository and make sure no one approaches, they scowl. They argue that there are far better uses for a team of their considerable talents.
Their track records are more than examplary and they have several signed commendations from Venture Captains.
“Why don’t you guard the stone building with no doors and windows? We’ll capture that giant two-headed vulture!” is her opening upon seeing you.
Ash - Eric de Vries |
I'll just start with an assist on diplomacy so Dimitra can finish it: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
"I think that if you give it some thought you will come to the conclusion that that 2-headed vulture is something better suited for someone else to take care off. The best place for you and your team of experts right now is here, doing what you are doing"
Dimitra |
I feel more like intimidating her ;-)
Intimidate, heroism: 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 16 + 2 = 34
"What are you saying Dara?" Dimitra asks the other women in what is almost a whisper while she steps just that bit too close in the other woman's face and continues in an voice that becomes louder and louder, until it ends in what is almost a shout
"I know you have some great commendations from some Venture Captains. However I did not see you entering the Chelish ambassady here in Absalom or the Lodge of Venture Captain Thurl in Nerosyan. And where were you when we took care of that issue in Kaer Maga?. Fact is that we are ten times the pathfinder that you are. So if I say you guard the damn building you guard the damn building!"

Cowed by the combination of both Dimitra and Ash, Dara and her team retreats and starts taking up position muttering about how she and her team are at least twenty times the Pathfinder than the one before her......
Janiff Ivulxtin relaxes substantically once you have reported back.
"I knew I could count on you. You're a shining example of what our Society aspires to be."
Turning to leave he smiles at all of you.
"Thank you for all your help and I think we got it in control here." just as an IMMENSE shadow passes overhead.
"Or pretty much what we can control here..........."
South is done. Where to next?
Dimitra |
"Looks like our job here is done, lets help our fellow pathfinders in the Northwestern quadrant"
nightdeath |
This enormous, columned stone structure is both temple and fortress. Two wings flank an open courtyard. The imposing structure is adjacent to a thick copse of trees.
Entering this imposing building, this Mausoleum’s main entrance, you behold a scene of destruction from a few years ago, where Aspis agents have smashed what the Society rebuilt.
Shattered statues and religious sculptures pertaining to death and
the after ife are strewn about the courtyard. The eastern stone doors are barred shut from the other side.
The bodies of two caretakers are slumped to the sides of the western doors.
C1a. Courtyard. Slide 3. PCS are randomly placed, please arrange yourself as you see fit.
Dimitra |
I have rearranged ourselves a bit: Melee types up front, Ash and myself in the middle and the archer and alchemist at the back.
Ash - Eric de Vries |
Ash takes a look around the area after casting guidance and detect magic
Take 10 on perception, for a 10+15+1 =26 - using guidance, detect magic and using Spirit Sense(sp)detect presence of undead;fey;outsiders;and astral, ethereal,or incorporeal creatures (as detect undead but all types at once). Also looking for traps/hidden creatures in general, but that's just part of the perception
nightdeath |
Ash discovers that the two men are still alive but near death and judging by their shallow breaths, not for long too.
He finds no other creature or traps out of the ordinary.
Dimitra |
Dimitra rushes towards the men when Ash signals that they are still alive, she whips out her wand of cure light wounds and touches both men with it.
Cure Light 1: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Cure Light 2: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
If the men regain their consciousness she asks "What happened here? Are you alright?"
nightdeath |
Long break. Back now.
The men stirs as they look bearily at their saviours.
"What?" says one as he looks around wildy.
"We were attacked by pathfinders. Our very own!"
The others looks about and examines you before asking cautiously.
"Our motto is?"
Zeno Loxley |
"'Explore, report, and cooperate?' I'm not sure that's a particularly sound passphrase, certainly not if you really were attacked by other Pathfinders."
"That said, we have been doing our part to Explore this whole floor show, and now you've given us something of a Report...so why don't we both Cooperate?"
Dimitra |
"Where are those impostors now?" Dimitra eyes these Pathfinders carefully, maybe they are also impostors?
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 18 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 18 + 2 = 36
nightdeath |
The Man nods at Zeno' words.
"There are supplies cached within the building. They're in the Chamber of truths. They might be what the invaders were looking for." Checking his pockets, he pulls out a couple of vials.
"Take this. It's a good thing I spent my extra gold in securing this hidden pouch." He hands over two Potions of Lesser Restoration and two doses of a variant form of silversheen, which works identically to silversheen except it allows the weapon to overcome damage reduction as if it were adamantine. It does not allow the weapon to overcome hardness.
"Stop them. There are valuable artifacts in there."
PCs are now in C1a now.
Dimitra |
"Ok, thanks. Let's go team!"
Dimitra waits for the better armored team-members to enter first and will follow, her bow at the ready.
Seelah of Katapesh |
The thunder of hooves nearby captures your attention as Seelah of Katapesh, Paladin of Iomedae, rides by. A host of Pathfinders in her wake spread out in every direction combing the area for enemies, Pathfinders in need, and the wounded.
Seelah draws up her steed, pulling it around to face you.
She says "Blessings and well met, Pathfinders! You look as if you are heading into more trouble."
She tosses you lot a whistle, like the ones you've seen soldiers on the field of battle use to direct troops.
She then says "If you are ever in need of aid, blow the whistle and Pathfinders within earshot will come to your assistance."
With waiting for a response she turns her horse about and thunders back off into the fray without waiting for a response.
Ash - Eric de Vries |
"Well the door doesn't seem trapped to me, let's open it and go in to protect the valuable artifacts they mentioned"
I have no use for the oils, so if someone doesn't have an adamantine weapon..please make sure you are carrying one.
Ash thanks the wounded pathfinders for their assistance and gladly accepts their supplies before following after Titus

A dull hum emanates from Skyreach as the ground trembles, trees sway, and glass shatters. A moment later, most of Skyreach’s northwest tower tears free from the keep; however, rather than crash to the ground, a visible aura holds the structure aloft and causes it to float above the Grand Lodge. Even the shower of stone blocks floats, swirling around the airborne tower in a nimbus of speeding debris.

"What the...." Dimitra exclaims. She then picks up the pace again "Let's investigate this quickly and then move towards Skyreach, they can probably use our assistance there!"
