Master of Swords Marcos Farabellus strides up to the large crowd and claps his hands together for attention.
“Welcome Pathfinders, one and all! And welcome to our traveling venture venture-captains stationed abroad as well our honored guests!"
"I am Marcos Farabellus, and on behalf of the Decemvirate, I welcome you to the Pathfinder Society’s annual Grand Convocation! I shall address all of the attendees later this afternoon to announce some of the Society’s greatest accomplishments over the past year and our plans for the future. In the meantime, I invite you to stroll about the campus, meet with your peers, and enjoy all the sites of the Grand Lodge. We have set up numerous challenges and contests so that you can show off your skills or sharpen them if need be. I’ll send around ushers when it’s time to assemble for the speeches on the north lawn. Enjoy!
Dimitra
|
"Oh great! I do hope that they serve enough wine during that speech. Oh well it is better than a speech of Drandle Dreng. I am Dimitra, Varisian story- and fortuneteller. You will probably catch me dancing and singing at the afterparty late this night. Shall we have a look what we can do until Farabellus starts his speech?"
Lymwin Shinebug
|
Lymwin listens to Farabellus' short introduction. After he finished she looks around. Let's see if I can meet new people.
Hearing Dimitra's remark about Dreng and wine Lymwin smiles. "Wine is very welcome! My name is Lymwin, nice to meet you. I'm looking forward to the afterparty later this night. Let's have a look around and see what we can do. Maybe I can learn new formulas, that would be really awesome!" the gnome says while shaking Dimitra's hand.
You can see burn scars on her hands, most of them are already old and healed.
Titus Slade

"Titus Slade. Former pupil of the Temple of Empyreal Enlightenment. Well met, Dimitra and Lymwin. I am hoping for a few tests of strength, it has been too long since I have been able show off my might."

Assuming that you're all together
A Male Halfling with a monkey on his shoulders approaches your group with a wide grin plastered across his face.
"Greetings! I see you all fine and tall folk gathered herabout and though that I should introduce myself to you. I am......."
He pauses to let the drama fill out.
"Mander Wildthorn!" looking to see if has managed to garner any reaction and seeing none looks slightly put out though that is swiftly wiped away as you introduce yourself to him.
Ash - Eric de Vries
|
Ash is a small red haired gnome (all thought his hair color is difficult to determine most of the time since he will be covered from head to toe in ash, soot and other blackish stuff) he walks over towards the male halfling with the monkey and shakes his hand a few times, looks at his own hand..decides that the black stuff most likely isn't going to come off and offers to Mander's monkey
"Nice to meet you, my name is Ash. How is your halfling called?"
nightdeath
|
"Mawk? His name is Mawk. Great companion here, he apes quite alot of things and has always being monkeying with me over our many adventures. A better companion no man could ask for." Mander Grins, enthusatically shaking the gnome's hands.
nightdeath
|
Mander looks quite excited as he features wildly and explains, motioning towards the yard of the Grand Lodge, where hundreds of Pathfinders now roam and chat.
"Surely you heard by now unless you've being distracted by the likes of Mawk here. There are many challenges that you can take part in - a grand occasion to make a name for yourself, or just to compare your skill to that of your fellow Pathfinders, don't you think? Think about it. Bragging rights or just to observe your fellows."
Striking a pose and baring his teeth in a passable imitation of a wild animal,
"There's an animal training contest over there near the menagerie. I'm sure some of you know how to calm down a fierce beast!"
A sudden schooling of his features in a rather animated yet familiar way of telling a story,
"Or you could try the storytelling contest near the statue of Durvin Gest. Well, they call it storytelling but it's more of a boasting contest frankly."
Miming opening a book with Mawk pulling out a pair of reading glasses from somewhere and somehow as reciting from a guide.
"Alternatively, there's the more serious lore symposium that's happening at the Quadrangle, if you need something more challenging to the mind like myself. There's also the obstacle course for the younger and more nimble among you. Or a sleuthing contest if you're good at finding clues quickly. Or a passing interest in all manners of deadly traps? There's a trap mastery contest at the Mausoleum. Finally, there's a weight lifting contest if you think you can beat Master Farabellus! The choice is yours, really!"
Before the start of the Grand Convocation proper and the speech of the various Venture-Captains, you have ample time to compete in the various challenge. Pick one, then open the spoiler to see what skill or ability check you can do, and roll one of them. Feel free to describe your performance! Let's go with the first round of challenges, one each.
Dimitra

Storytelling is just my thing!"
Bluff: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (1) + 20 = 21
"In my most recent assignment we had to trade with a spellcaster on the Storval plateau, little did we know that the caster was actually a red dragon shapechanged into a human form. When one of my fellow agents made some derogatory comments regarding dragons you can imagine that the proud dragon did not like that, and that was only the start of that disaster...."
completely made up, any similarity to actual scenarios is not intentional.
Ryskovich
|
A Halfling, wearing a chainshirt, with an exotic weapon attached at the hip, strides up with a glass of wine in hand.
Hello everyone. My name is Ryskovich Rellik. I recently got done with a mission in Taldor's fine opera house. Interesting story I hear, young lady, as he nods to Dimitra. I can see the end result was a favorable one at least. I too wonder what sort of festivities are present
Ryskovich goes to see what types games are around.
Ryskovich
|
obstacle course: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Ryskovich will try the obstacle course first. He adjusts his straps on the chainshirt, then goes for it. He barely gets out of the gate, so-to-speak, and trips over his own two feet and falls face first into the dirt. He gets back up and tries to continue, but once again fails to barely make the first challenge.
Ryskovich, against his stubborn nature, simply leaves the obstacle course. He spits in the dirt, disgusted at his own performance.
Lymwin Shinebug
|
"I think I will head over to the Trap Mastery workshop. That's my kind of thing. Animals are scary and I'm not strong."
Disable Device: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Lymwin selects one of the traps present, it seems to be an acid dart trap, and begins to disable it. Carfully unmounting snares and mechanisms.

The excited Gnome Ash rushes into take a chance to pick a cage which unfortuntely for him contains a rather bored looking bear which promptly ignores his command and adds insult by relieving itself while facing Ash.
Round 1 Contest other than Zeno, the rest have done theirs.
Zeno Loxley
|
Sorry for the delay; head troubles.
Zeno Loxley, a tall, athletically-built elf with platinum hair, turquoise eyes, and armed to the teeth with both quintessentially Elven-looking weapons and an elegant silver spellbook, has been quietly observing the proceedings up until now. A shrewd observer might notice a mysterious apprehension beneath his calm exterior. He eventually heads over to the Lore Symposium.

Mysterious House: Arliss Hall is full to the brim with visiting venture-captains from abroad. The building is rumored to mysteriously change its internal layout. The increased comings and goings have prompted it to do so with even greater regularity and many venture captains have become lost themselves, wandering the hallways.
Next Generation: The Society’s success at Nerosyan and more recently at the sky citadel Jormurdun has captured the imaginations of a new crop of Pathfinders, who see the Society as a potential force for good as well as scholarship. The halls of the Quadrangle have not been so full in many years.
Poor Ash is bought a round of drinks from fellow pathfinders for his entertaining attempt though he's encouraged to try once more.
Ash - Eric de Vries
|
Ash moves away from the rude bear while carrying his drink and moves over towards the sleuthing, hoping it has to do something with a sloth but quickly discovers it has something to do with using your eyes and looking behind other stuff..and sometimes looking under stuff...but then you are allowed to pick stuff up to make it easier
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22 (with a +1 if the use of guidance is allowed)
Dimitra
|
Disable Device: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Dimitra walks over to the trap mastery challenge and takes out her disabling kit. She focuses for a moment and gets to work.
"Ah, not unlike a kobold's traps this challenge. Nicely done"
Lymwin Shinebug
|
Lywin heads over to the Sleuthing challenge where she has to find a treasure hidden between the roots of an invisible tree.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
Ryskovich
|
Ryskovich then heads over to the sleuthing challenge, behind Lymwin. HE watches her easily find whatever she was told to find.
Nice job there Lymwin. Seems easy enough
He awaits his turn, as the VC's change things up, not wanting there to be the same challenge for all participants. When given his opportunity, Ryskovich takes a deep breath. He realizes he is in a locked room, with no locks, no apparent exits. Ryskovich looks around. He sees various objects, and sees there is a book out of place on the bookshelf. One of the authors is incorrectly placed according to last name. He pulls the book, and a secret door opens, allowing him to escape the puzzle.

Seeing the Sleuthing Challenge well attended to, Zeno gets a wild hair and tries his hand instead at Animal Training.

New Policy: The Decemvirate has spared no expense on this year’s Grand Convocation and has reached out to as many Pathfinders as possible and underwritten some costs when necessary. This is an effort to demonstrate their appreciation to field agents, repair any frayed relationships, and celebrate a successful year.
Next Generation: The Society’s success at Nerosyan and more recently at the sky citadel Jormurdun has captured the imaginations of a new crop of Pathfinders, who see the Society as a potential force for good as well as scholarship. The halls of the Quadrangle have not been so full in many years.
Strange Artifact: The principal discovery of the sky citadel of Jormurdun has been moved to a strange chamber with no corners along the exterior walls, floor, and ceiling. This is to help shield it from strange otherworldly entities. This year’s keynote address is allegedly about the artifact discovered in Jormurdun, the Sky Key.
Future Agendas: A large number of venture-captains posted abroad have made a concerted effort to attend the Grand Convocation this year. There is speculation that there are interesting plans for the year ahead and that they’re jockeying for consideration from the Decemvirate.
Menagerie Multiplication: The budget to maintain the menagerie has been temporarily expanded for the Grand Convocation. The Grand Lodge is capitalizing on the large number of visitors to present as many unusual specimens as possible.
City Politics: A Foreign Quarter councilman, Lord Omrys of House Ahnkamen, has registered some concern about the Grand Convocation with Absalom’s Grand Council. Lord Omrys feels that the Pathfinder Society is a “weirdness magnet” that brings more trouble to the city than good. He fears that a “Pathfinder Convention” is only going to exacerbate and concentrate the mischief that surrounds the Society, so he has requested that the district guard keep close tabs on the Grand Lodge for the next week. The Decemvirate has been in contact with Lord Omrys and assured him that all will be well.

Congratuations! You've gained all Rumours.
Waiting at one of the many table laden with several mugs of drinks, Mander calls you all over
"An excellent display of Strength, Wits, Agility and Skill. YOu are all indeed fine Pathfinders. Here! A toast to all of your achievements."
He holds up a mug
"It seems that the rest of the competttion s getting crowded now as more fellow pathfinders attempt to duplicate of exceed your feats. Rest now and let us discuss your thoughts on what you have heard or feel about this Grand Convocation."

Sir Laribold Croome, an immaculately dressed Taldan nobleman scrambles for cover behind a table, which his halfling manservant helpfully flips onto its side. Catching his breath, the Taldan fumbles for his monocle before addressing the nearby Pathfinders.
“Monsters and villains are attacking all over the grounds,” he states with perfect articulation, punctuated by a crossbow bolt that embeds itself in his makeshift barricade.
“Spread out, patrol the grounds, and snuff out trouble as you find it. If you should discover any clues about what the devil is going on, report back here at the base of Skyreach.”
He pulls his sword cane free from its sheath and raises it overhead. “Look alive, and show initiative,” he shouts before performing an elaborate dueling salute in the direction of an elephant and setting off after it.
The area at the Grand Lodge is not unfamilar to PCs. The south campus, northwestern campus and northeastern campus are available for travel during Part 2. Encounters will be run as we go along.

The beauty of the Grand Lodge’s well-manicured grounds is shattered by the sounds of shouts and screams from panicked initiates, support staff, and visitors. Frightened innocents trip over hedges and stumble through fountains and pools in an effort to get to safety by the most direct means possible, especially when the landscaping otherwise leads them to certain peril.
You recognize military historian Yargos Gill among those fleeing for their lives.

Zeno knows that the twin specimns ate Wooly Rhinoceroses, large dangerous animals that are prone to unleash a devastating charge on foes. It also doesn't help that they are usually ornery and they tend to charge first and consider consequences later.
