(PFS/PBP/Roll20) The Sarkorian Prophecy [10-11 Tier] (Inactive)

Game Master Amsheagar

When a novice Pathfinder in the Grand Lodge of Absalom discovers an account of a long lost prophecy which may hold the key to defeating the Shadow Lodge, a team of brave agents heads into the heart of the Worldwound to recover the document. Not only do the forces of the Abyss and the demon-tainted environment stand in their way, but so does a rival team of Pathfinders set on recovering the Sarkorian Prophecy first.

As the storm hits, Aram will activiate detect evil and scan the area around us.

Ralph, read the spoiler after you have posted and drawn a line for your movement.

everyone else:

Aram and Balik proceed forward as the ash-storm picks up. Aram is about five feet from Balik when he sees him starting to sink into the ground. He tries to move forward, only to discover that he has sunk into the ground as well. They have walked into quicksand. Swim Check to stay afloat is 10, to move 5 feet is 15.

Having said that. Lavode (as a very squishy caster) doesn't lead the pack. he would be somewhere in the middle or toward the end of the line.
.
If anyone is still floundering, I can fly a rope over so others can pull them out. Or I could summon a large mud elemental to get them out.

Ralph nods in agreement at Aram's observation.

"Those abyssal geysers explode with raw chaotic energy from pent up reserves beneath the earth. We want to spend as little time here as possible."

Ralph will fly low, staying 5ft off the ground, flying straight over the barrow towards Exiel. Path is straight line from the blue square to where he is on the map now.

fly check: 1d20 + 7 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 7 - 4 = 30

Ralph sees the ash storm swirl up around them, and calls back to the others. "Take cover in that cave! We can't see where we're going with all this ash in the air, and we won't last very long either if this keeps up!"

Ralph looks back to see how his allies are doing, then curses when he notices the quicksand.

Ashamgear, Aram's phantom steed was cast at level 10, so it has water walk.

Water Walk wrote:
The transmuted creatures can tread on any liquid as if it were firm ground. Mud, oil, snow, quicksand, running water, ice, and even lava can be traversed easily, since the subjects' feet hover an inch or two above the surface.

So Aram can just ride over the quicksand.

Lavode, summoning a mud elemental to carry yourself, your horse and Balik is a great idea. If it lasts long enough, we can also send it ahead into the cave to scout.

Ralph: wonderful news!

Assuming Aram's horse does not sink, he will quickly pull a rope from his pack and throw it to Balik, and pull him backwards out of the quicksand. He will then ride towards the doorway as well, to take shelter from the ash storm.

It's up to you, but the water walk spell does "The transmuted creatures can tread on any liquid as if it were firm ground." If the two lines are read together, I'd say that the phantom steed walks as if there was firm ground an inch above the surface of the water/quicksand.

[ooc]yeah, it is iffie, but I am gonna pass on the flight check. With that said.... What should we do about the skeleton dragon by Exiel?[\ooc]

interesting fact:

That skeleton dragon is just that, the bones of a dragon, which can't be collected or used in any form.
Since you guys have water walk, and hovering steeds, you can get to the cave within the 10 rounds remaining before the tornado arrives.

Exiel will solo the skeletal dragon whilst we take cover.

About the interesting fact:
It's just Aram and Exiel who have floating steeds and me who flies, but they also have more than enough strength to pull anyone who is stuck in the mud. So are we in the cave now?

3 rounds have passed since the end of the first round, if Lavode summons the mud elemental, then you guys can easily walk around the quicksand after pulling out the one who fell into it. Damage taken is 3 fire damage and 6 non lethal damage.

True, but we are also not in, say, Magnimar. We are in evil-central/hell-on-earth abyss-on-golarion. Exiel would be experienced enough to know that many creatures of the abyss have magical abilities, including illusion and shape-changing abilities. Anything creature of overwhelming evil that holes up in the world wound is likely to be something we want to kill with fire and very sharp metal.

Exiel focuses till he pin-points the location of the evil aura, then dismounts from the phantom steed, nods to Aram and walks towards the location of the evil aura, his cold iron hooked lance at the ready.

Exiel's agitated wary state also prompts Lucien to emerge and trigger it's ioun stone to cast protection from evil on Exiel before melding back into tattoo form.

"Yes, well, I could, I suppose. Let me just see if there's anything wrong with you."

Exiel lowers his hooked lance so that it is held in one hand...

...then casts shield (surprise?).

If she does not react, he then casts detect magic on her.

This is not a bluff per se. To Exiel, detection of any transmutation or illusion aura on her will count as something being VERY wrong with her. For that matter, detection of a necromantic, conjuration or evocation aura will be concerning in their own way...

If she allows Exiel to concentrate, he will concentrate for 3 rounds to see what, if any magical auras she has.

How many knowledge arcana checks, if any, will I need to roll?

That would put you back out into the storm... and the tornado is about 4 rounds away..... correction.. I had to move you 10 feet closer to her to be 60 feet away... you guys are currently in a cave, you are in one of 3 places that have line of sight of her.

Ralph has casts Detect Magic, you detect magic all around.

I just saw the map. That position is fine. Also good to see that Exiel is out of a fireball blast radius. ;)

How high is the tunnel? I will fly as close to the ceiling as I can. I have a +18 on my fly checks (+7 normally +4 good maneuverability +7 bonus from spell), so I can hover each round even if I roll a 1 as long as the wind in the tunnel is at severe strength or less.

It's a burial mound, so it wouldn't be more than room height. which is about 8-10 feet.

"You poor woman, you look famished! Let me get you out of those chains. And here... " he moves up next to Exiel, and tosses her a piece of beef jerky.

BTW, I can move Naala on roll20 but not Alden.

Aram uses discern lies on the woman while catching up in the thread. If the woman is lying, Aram stops Alden from freeing her immediately.

"Your pardon, milady, but in such a place you can understand the need for caution."

Balik scoffs. "What they won't say is they wanna know if yer crazy or evil or crazy evil! Well, are ye?" He peers hard at the woman, as if daring her to make a move. Sense Motive: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (15) + 23 = 38

Read the spoiler above for Sense Motive, which I hope is kosher.

"I wouldna be opening them chains, lad! She's a darned liar that one! And not nearly as goody good as she's let on!"

Maybe she's chained philosophically? By the oppression of men?

Balik, whose eyesight has never been exactly... adequate since the scarring, blinks. "Stand back lads! She's nae what she appears to be, I say! And I know! Did I ever tellya about the time I dated a harpy for three weeks afore I realized she wasna a dwarf with skinny legs?"

I think Lavode has yet to act.

Exiel nearly loses his concentration on his spell as he tries to shake from his mind's eye the mental image of Balik with the harpy.

As soon as he is able to, Exiel will go back to gripping his hooked lance with both hands, but even in the World Wound, Exiel finds himself reluctant to smite first and ask questions later. He keeps concentrating on his detect magic spell until the woman makes a hostile move or changes her appearance into something obviously smite-worthy.

Illayna will crain her head to try and listen to Exiel and Aram's conversation. DC is 19 to hear a whisper 40 feet away. perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (1) + 18 = 19

Illayna lifts up her chin and speaks "No need to whisper Paladins. If you want to know the magic that is effecting me, I will tell you. I am in disguise as this lady. She was a brave warrior who died on the battlefield beside me. Why I am in disguise, I cannot tell you, for I fear for my life."

Alden, on his way over to help, stops in his tracks. "If you are disguised, that is a reason for us not to trust you. Reveal yourself to us, and I give you my word that no harm will come to you unless you harm us or distract us from our mission. I do not care what type of creature you are, if you are not an enemy."

Alden looks back at the paladins. "You heard me, I gave this creature my word."

"The Dawnflower embraces redemption," Aram replies. "Yet I think we should hear the tale first, before jumping so quickly to judgement." Turning to the woman, he motions for her to continue.

Exiel laughs openly as he recalls the hag they had encountered in Artrosa.

"The last time a young woman apparently in distress came to me pleading for rescue, she was also using a spell that changed her form. She tried to seduce a friend of mine, but she turned out to be a large hideous hag that tried to eat me and my friends for lunch. And compared to that place, the World Wound is...well, it's actually rather similar actually, as far as levels of hospitality are concerned," he says as he remembers the Bebilith, the porcupine-man and the eight-legged-giant-centaur, and the friend they had lost there.

"That being the case, I will say to you what I said to her. You must understand that in a place like this, I wish to see you as you truly are before I aid you. In fact, I must insist. Surely it is a small price to pay for the freedom you so desperately long for. Show yourself as you are..."

Exiel stops himself there. He had said a little more back then to the disguised hag, but with the events of Artrosa still fresh in his memory, seeing this "woman" without her magical disguise would only be a step towards him trusting her. She did after all possess a strong aura of evil about her.

----------------->And he continues concentrating on his spell.<--------------------
How many auras and what is the strength of the strongest aura?
6 rounds of protection from evil left...
