And since his character died he may not have the resources to get a raise done.

Looks like I had forgotten to apply credit to Erlathan after his second session. I ran Confirmation and reported it with credit to him, but never added the gold/prestige.
It's fine because he still would have been level 1, but he would probably have had a wand for last game.. Ah well.
He will be Level 2 for our next mission :)

We will be a lot better set for the next chronicle.
Also, I wanted to suggest/offer something. I've been wanting to try GMing a PbP society game for a while now but I've only run one FtF PFS game and never run a PbP game, so I'm very intimidated. After this next session, and if you want to play one of the free scenarios (or buy one for me) I could GM. It would not matter what scenarios I've played then and I could credit Yanda. I would need a GM with experience to take me under his/her wing and it might be slow at first as I struggle with the technology, but I would be willing. And I almost guarantee that I'll miss some rules so it will be EXPECTED that the players be nebby and help me spot illegal PC actions/potential villain actions and not let my mistakes slide. Unlike most of these PbP games you will be expected to be in everyone else's business because of my limitations.

There's a guide written by a user called PainLord, with both the basics and further.
Of course, if you're wondering what we (Erlathan/Red is also doing GM'ing) do, ask away.
Like suggested on the boards, you can start by doing evergreens, such as confirmation, Master of the Fallen Fortress, or 1st steps part I.
Though the latter has one of the highest (rumored) TPK chances of them.
Had it not been for their summoning of eagles, i would have had one. :/
Edit:
Something i would suggest, is try to pick the best things from different GMs you play with, and use them for your own.
For example faster init, instead of rolling seperately.
Some GMs roll saving throws for the PCs, others don't, or under certain circumstances. Whatever you like in their playstyles, you can adapt into your own way.

The technical details are things like
1) How do I get a map set up on google docs? Do we use generic maps or are there maps with the scenario? do you scan the page in, crop , and upload as a GIF? I've heard of map bundles. Do you use those?
2) Where do I find monster icons?
3) What if I want a transparent area affect border, where do I get it and how do I set it up?
4) How do I set up a thread? Add a link to the top of the page?
5) How do I register a PBP event?
I've actually read Painlords guide before. And a number of these questions could be answered by an intelligent search. But I prefer to nag a human being if I'm still struggling after 15 minutes.
I actually tried to put a map together for a Rappan Athuk game and struggled for over an hour with making a simple room with a sarcophagus and a trap door. I am NOT willing to put that time and energy into a map. There has to be an easier way or I will forever be just a player. This is not one of my gifts and I just know I'll need help the first time through.

| 2 people marked this as a favorite. |
1) If you use PDFs, there is a website where you can extract images by uploading the PDF.
The maps will be extracted without the prints of numbers or giveaways regarding traps, that are shown in the PDF itself. :)
Website
2) Simply google for them, either fantasy or pathfinder + icon of what you want.
3) I'm unsure, could you be more specific?
4)
At recruitment, click on the Create a Thread.
You can insert a name and type your recruitment text. When you click submit, it's made.
After that, you can click on buttons that say (connect campaign thread to this recruitment). When done, you can click that campaign, and there you'll get the options to create both gameplay and discussion tabs.
Which you can either give a custom name, or let it be default to match the name of your game/
5)
My account (cue login stuff)
Scroll down to Pathfinder Society and click [Make changes]
You'll get a screen with the PFS logo, and your list of PFS characters.
There are a few tabs to your left. [Player/GM/Event coordinator/Sessions]
Clicking GM/Even coordinator gives you the option of [Create new event]
Doing so will give a form where you can select the scenario or module you want to run. Be sure to click the correct box, as they can be played as RPG (the correct one) and PFC (card game version).
Having selected that, it basically points you further.
Edit:
I know, making maps is time consuming, depending on what you want it to be and have.
But for quick simple ones, such as the one you did with Rimetusk, i made via a website for this purpose. You could do it crude and make a table in google drawings, but pre made from the PDF are so much easier.

I was going to help you, but Chyrone seems to have answered everything pretty well. :)

OK then. Would you all be interested in playing your characters in a game run by me after Mists is over? I don't want to presume upon you, Chyrone, as we were all lobbying to have you continue running the characters. It just seemed like an opportune time for me to give it a try and give you a chance to play a character with the group if you want.

Done with my Level 2 purchases and skills. Erlathan is turning out to be quite the skill/knowledge monkey. Hopefully, it comes in handy.
I'm ready to begin whenever you fine folks are.
Erlathan

Ah, of course. Take your time... The elf is still feeling woozy from his spiked tea. Or his poor decision making. :P

This is a character submission from Boldren the Tarnished.
I have reworked this character since his last scenario. He currently has (1) chronicle (The Conformation) and should be a more comfortable combination of front-liner, face, and heals. I thought i read someone was thinking of bringing an inquisitor as well, so this should round out the group quite a bit.
Erlathan

Hmm... Let's discuss that penalty. Selethe isn't throwing the weapon, it's flying out of her hand, so I'm not sure that -4 penalty applies:
You don't actually throw the weapon. Hand of the Acolyte states that the weapon flies from your hand (with magic!) to strike your target. It simply states that it functions like a thrown weapons. It gives you a hard range and a formula for the attack roll. No penalty for improvised weapon - they just didn't want to spell out all the rules again when using an existing example would suffice.
| Chyrone |
It flies by magic, yes.
Yet the description states that:
As a standard action, you can make a single attack using a melee weapon at a range of 30 feet. This attack is treated as a ranged attack with a thrown weapon
To my understanding, if something is treated as something else in the way it is to work, it would follow the similar rules.
How it appears to me, is that she throws it, and it flies the distance by magic. As it's treated as a thrown weapon attack, from a weapon that was not intended as such, the penalty would occur.
I will look some more into it, and the thing will die if i find a sure answer, as things can be read differently from perspectives.
(You wouldn't believe the thread about fast movement of barbarian and bloodrager stacking..sheesh :P )
Erlathan
|
You can cause your melee weapon to fly from your grasp and strike a foe before instantly returning.
So it flies from her grasp. There is no throwing.
Anyway, let's take it to the boards :)

Elf ninjas man, elf ninjas... Watch out.
Sounds good to me. I only do this because rules are not always clear and I should be aware of it too as a GM.
Erlathan
|
You play a ninja, don't you?
You seem to have a preference for east-themed characters. :)
Erlathan

To help us get an answer faster, I went ahead and asked a Venture Officer (ironhelixx aka Jesse Davis) about that ruling. Here's his response.
Erlathan
|
So, was I smooched or not?
If so.....what are these deadly effects you imply...? :S
Erlathan
|
LOL, just the perfect effects for Erlathan. He's going to love this.
So how long do I have, GM?
Erlathan
|
Oh man.
How long will our mission take roughly, and how close is the nearest town I'd be able to heal the effects at?
| Chyrone |
Looking at the mission as a whole, taking exploring and snooping around into consideration, an hour seems likely.
the Blakros Museum, which towers over the western skyline of the Wise Quarter
----------------
Responsive post: Pathfinder Society Field Guide confirms. The Pathfinder Society Grand Lodge is in the Foreign Quarter.
I'd guess phase 2 could (almost) be ending when arriving at the Grand Lodge, that's one very large city.
Ever been to Venice, or Barcelona? It takes a time to walk through such a city.
But i've not done exact math on the feet & timepan in relation to the map, so you could be in better shape still.
Edit: Some skimm searching done, you'd probably still be within the 1st hour of phase 2.
Erlathan
|
Alright, so it sounds like I should be okay but will probably have to drop a prestige point to remove it. Damn.
Erlathan
|
What do you mean?
After the session, I thought I can just spend 1 PP to have spellcasting services cast remove disease without a check required. The Guild Guide says nothing about a check.
| Chyrone |
Nor does it say auto-success.
When plainly looking at it, you're buying a casting of a spell (with a required CL check vs DC in this case)
There is, after looking again, at the column on Spellcaster Services:
If a character wants to ensure success with a spell that requires a caster level check or a specific caster level
Remove disease is a spell that calls for a CL check.
Erlathan
|
It sounded like a tough GM ruling, but I asked Discord, and you are correct.
It would be a +5 roll since that's the minimum CL for the spell if I pay with prestige.
But instead, I'll just waste all of the gold I gain from this scenario and pay for a CL 10 spell with 300 gp, unless you are going to tell me I cannot do that. (And watch me roll a 1.)
Seems like an unfun and frustrating rule I must admit. One can end up burning all of their prestige and gold if they're unlucky.
Erlathan
|
Thank you Marock, much appreciated, but how about this:
New plan:
Buy an antiplague potion (50gp), drink it
Get remove sickness cast on me (10gp)
Someone makes a heal check
Remove disease 1pp

Chyrone, Discord is a chatting application. There's an official Pathfinder Society server on there, and a lot of the VOs/VCs join it so it's a great place for clarification and such... You should check it out. It is free of course.
