Balenar pulls out the two scrolls from his pack. "You mean these? Sure, let's make use of them." He hands them to Cazithiel. "As for me, I prefer to stay back and inspire my friends with tales of my travels, of legends, and of treasure unimaginable!" He dramatically gets down on one knee and holds his hands up to the ceiling.
Proceeding with the invisibility scroll, Konner sneaking up and attacking, then? I'll get the map up.

![]() |

After you discuss the plan with Balenar, he opens the scroll and looks up at Konner. "Ready?" Once he receives the all clear, Balenar recites the words from the scroll of invisibility and watches them burn off the page. At the same time, Konner fades into the light as his body and equipment become invisible. "There you go. Now be careful," he whispers.

"In 45 seconds time, we'll be charging up those stairs. When you see Irvine and Dentesila, knife the druid, and keep him from casting. We'll be with you straight away - keep away from that croc!" says Caitlyn. "Good luck!"

Got it...see you shortly... Konner ssys as he draws his rapier and a vial of acid as well. He sneaks into the room and tries to get close to the druid....close enough to stab him in the vitals.

Under his cloak of invisibility, Konner creeps up to the top floor and begins to sneak up to the throne and druid. As he gets closer, the filthy stench of raw sewage floods his sinuses. Konner will need a DC 13 Fort Save or become sickened Standing right next to the druid as he gazes out over the window, he prepares to insert his dagger into the creature's side.
You may roll the attack in a surprise round where only you are aware and we'll move to initiative. This is unless Dentesila steps upstairs first to initiate combat, but then you'd miss out on this extra attack

The scaly druid gasps in pain and surprise as he feels the sharp dagger pierce into his side, then glowers at Konner and shouts something strange. "啊。 黑暗的神的另一个受害者,我明白了。 抓住下巴,摧毁他!"
"Ugh. Another victim for the dark god, I see. Snap jaw, destroy him!"
He wipes the cold blood from his skin and spits at Konner, then steps back and begins weaving a spell.
Balenar looks up at the stairs as the fight breaks out. "KONNER! He's saying something about a dark god. Are you okay? Ahem" He clears his throat and begins telling a tale.
"Kidnapped and beaten, and left for dead,
Another claw at the chest, another fist full of lead,
Saved by some Pathfinders from Grand Lodge,

I have to judge height somehow, and each floor is separated by 15 feet of stairs. Dentesila is basically at the top (5 feet), followed by Irvine (10 feet) and everyone else (15 feet), meaning subtract this from your total movement for this round. The entire top floor is dimly lit.
Heretic Druid, Round 1
Cazithiel, Irvine, Dentesila, Caitlyn, and Konner are all up

"Go! Go!" Dentesila leads the way, blade in hand, as the party charges into the upper room...

Cazithiel takes off like a shot up the stairs, rushing straight down the red carpet. His natural speed allows him just enough to reach out with his hand, enshrouded with dark tendrils, to reach out at the large albino beast.
Touch of Darkness to the creature.
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
If successful, the beast has a 20% miss chance vs. everyone for one round.

Caitlyn reaches the top step of the stairs, raises her bow, and seeing the druid beginning to chant, looses an arrow to interrupt his casting:
point blank shot+bard song: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 23 for damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5
I'm hoping that the low height of the croc means Caitlyn can aim over its head for a clear shot at the druid...

"By Desna's grace please let it stop," cries Dentesila as she charges at the albino crocodilian, "Balenar I'd tie you up and beat you myself for rhyming 'Lodge' with 'crotch'..."
Launching a serious of quickfire slashes, she seeks to either sever the mighty sinews at the side of the croc's jaw, or blind it if she can:
charge + terrible rhyming: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 2 + 1 = 191d10 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5

Following the group, Irvine readied his blade as he made his way up the stairs, putting a haste in his step. He didn't want to leave his comrades fighting by themselves.
However, hearing Balenar's song, Irvine couldn't help but grin. "A true poet, friend! How about a song where we slay these big uglies and I go home alive, drink a mug, eat a feast in celebration and go to bed with a woman at my side?!"

![]() |

And now, for my least favorite mechanism in this adventure...
Cazithiel manages to afflict the crocodile with a vision impairment, its pupils turning a hazy grey. But then, as Dentesila charges for the albino crocodile, she hears an awful groan in the floor below her, followed by a deep tremble throughout the marble tiles leading up to the far wall. The stonework suddenly buckles and snaps apart below her feet, and the entire eastern section of floor collapses, sending Dentesila, Cazithiel, Konner, the heretic druid and its crocodile pet tumbling down with it.
I need a reflex save from you three. Good luck!

Konner hops across the room as the floor crumbles and out of harms way.
Dentesila damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Dentesila, another save, please?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Dentesila can't grasp the ledge and tumbles for about 10 feet before she catches the edge of the landing on the floor below and climbs over it, only bruising an ankle.

Tasskar, save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Tasskar, damage: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2, 2, 6) = 19
The white crocodile dashes ahead to avoid the fall, but the troglodyte druid falls as far as the second floor before he manages to twist his body enough to land on the edge of the landing. He spits blood as he climbs up with several broken ribs and sheered off scales.
And this is why I dislike this trap. 6d6 damage to a level 1 PC who falls to ground level is basically death. Please roll well, Caz, and then I'll figure out how to continue combat with a few people misplaced.

Cazithiel leaps ahead as the stone floor falls out from underneath him, escaping with no damage. Caitlyn's arrow punches through the heavy crocodile's white scales.
Konner still has a turn for this round.

So can you describe where Dentesila and the Druid are, relative to everyone else? One level down for Dentesila, and the foot of the tower for the druid, or what?
-Posted with Wayfinder

Yes, the map is updated with Dentesila and the Druid's positions. Dentesila is one level down and the druid is on the second level. The druid is technically no longer in combat.
Konner pokes the albino crocodile with his rapier, adding another gash to the angry creature's flesh. Snapjaw retaliates by lurching towards Irvine 1 Konner 2 Caz 3: 1d3 ⇒ 2 Konner and biting at his ankle.

Raising herself groggily, Dentesila shakes her head and emits a hacking coughs - a thick cloud of masonry dust envelops her, and has coated her from head to toe.
Glancing downward, she sees the druid rising to his feet. Courageously, and perhaps foolhardily, she determines to pursue him alone whilst the battle rages above with the crocodile. Eschewing the stairs, she sheathes her sword and nimbly parkours down the shattered edge of the tower.

Dentesila, are you sure? I feel it fair to remind you that if you hop down one level, you will be in the room where you'd seen the bat swarm
Caz tumbles past the beast, but misses his attack. Irvine does what he does best and eviscerates the white crocodile across its maw, covering his blade in yet another layer of reptile blood.
I will end combat here given that you are not threatened and to allow you to regroup.

![]() |

Aha yes good call DM. Perhaps a more careful approach via the stairs would be wiser...
Dentesila was almost about to execute her parkour plan, when a small flutter of bats, disturbed by the falling rubble, changed her mind."Bats! I hate bats!"
Instead, hearing the fighting cease upstairs she calls upward to the rest of the party "All Ok up there?"
She maintains eye on the druid, if she can, to see what he does.

In the interest of wrapping things up, I will place you all just outside of the room the druid fell into with the assumption that you searched the other rooms he could have fallen into (with the bat room being last)
-- Insert pre-battle healing here --
With the crocodile companion dispatched, you head back down through the tower, seeking the heretic druid or what's left of him. Having fallen down with the collapse of the entire section of floor, you assume he must have sustained quite the injury, and indeed, as you make for the landing on the second floor, there he is - covered in blood, limping, yet still raising his blade menacingly as you approach. Just when you think the odds are stacked against him, a giant centipede crawls out of the rubble and hisses at you.

Balenar smiles as he notices how hurt the scaly beast is. "Who's hurting now, heretic scum? That floor that fell on you must've weighed a ton, you'd have been better off if you had just ... run." He dramatically pulls out a pair of tinted-lens glasses and slaps them on.

Third crit this game, although this one didn't confirm.
Irvine darts forward with his giant blade held tightly in his hand. He charges for the troglodyte druid and shanks him just under his ribcage and up through his heart. The druid chokes up blood and falls flat on his back, mumbling some sort of dark prayer. At the same time, the giant centipede curls up and melts into a pile of goo.
Out of combat. BBEG down!
A large wooden chest peeks out of the rubble that had fallen from above. Inside is a veritable stash of treasure, including a masterwork short sword, 15 cold iron shurikens, two flasks of acid, a potion of cat's grace, a potion of lesser restoration, a wand of summon monster, an amethyst, and 247 gp.
With the heretic druid destroyed and the tower cleared of its troglodyte infestation, do you Pathfinders take the loot and head back to Absalom?
